Most people gravitate to certain things. People that tend to consume everything just don't have any taste. I like a lot of stuff too but saying "I like everything" is an empty statement and it's very unlikely that someone would like everything equally. If they do it goes back to what I said above about them having no taste of their own and being a mindless consumer.

In what sense? I think each thing has a different appeal. I kinda want to use film as an example. DieHard is a totally different film from The Fall and the former has the charm of being violent and the barest form of witty while the latter is a slightly misguided exploration of cinema as a medium. Similarly, mangas each seem varied and pronounced by vastly different goals, though each interpretation can vary and frankly discussion isn't always neccessary, but can sometimes enhance it. I just happen to have enjoyed all of them, so far. What do you regard as utter crap? Maybe I didn't recall hard enough.

Even with genres I kind of feel that way. There's a lot of genres of movies, music, anime/manga and if you get into any of them you really should feel a pull to certain genres and subgenres. It's not really about liking or disliking certain things but more like liking certain things more than others. And if you do try and spread yourself out to consume everything you're likely doing it in a surface level manner, with your taste ending up like that one meme 3x3.

Don't some mangas necessitate this? Like BnHA or to grasp the emotional depth of Oldboy and many of the themes in works like Apollo's song actually requires a less critical view to appreciate?
