Every other opening for this show seems to get a lot more attention than this one, and that's entirely fair looking at the visuals.
But there's something infectious about the emotion with which the vocalist belts out his lyrics, and it impresses upon me the sensation of running beneath the clouds on a warm summer's day. It's a bizarre emotion that I can only liken to an abstract sense of "freedom".

Guin Saga's opening is particularly striking to me, but I'm a sucker for purely instrumental openings.

The Uematsu score loans itself well to a story of nation-spanning ambition and heroes, war and fantasy, but what's particularly interesting is that every character shown is presented in a heroic light, with sweeping camera angles, and determined eyes staring directly into the camera, or off towards a horizon known only by them.
It also does a wonderful job of portraying a character's traits in mere moments, like seeing Naris's narrowed eyes glancing sideways towards the viewer, giving him an air of cunning and quiet resolve. Or Amnelis standing among a bed of roses, almost defiantly above the beauty and love they represent.

Stardust part 2 was phenomenal, foreshadowing, a late season "twist", and a killer track. And part 4 switching to the bleaker "Chase" when the season got more intense was amazing. The earlier seasons are more iconic, sure, but they never stopped being great.

Shigurui's opening interests me greatly as well. The first shot we see is a Buddhist figure which immediately becomes blurry and distorted, followed by a discordant clutter of red overlapping unsteady and ephemeral imagery, contemporary to it's own setting.
The original creator used Shigurui to dissect and criticize Bushido, presenting the ideology as a legitimization of the harmful relationships between Lord and Vassal, Samurai and commoner. Shigurui is diametrically opposed to the common glorification of the Samurai, presenting them as sado-masochistic despots who have been manipulated by a deeply entrenched cultural "code".
Analyzed liberally, and without complete understanding of the imagery presented by the opening, I would interpret the initial obfuscation of the idol at the beginning as the precepts upheld by Zen-Buddhism, on which Bushido has it's roots in, being distorted by how Samurai wielded "Bushido". The chaos and red that stains the imagery that follows can be seen to represent the literal and metaphorical blood that stains Japanese history.

While viewed in a vacuum, the opening's only memorable trait is how little it actually shown, but when viewed with proper context, I believe it to be quite a well-crafted OP, quite relevant to the themes at hand.
