I think you're just underestimating how normal people would react in such a situation.
For example in the minority game the mc and the other trap were the only one to come up with tactics and to actually think, the other players were just standing there doing nothing and waiting for it to pass.
And when you think about the way they ended up in this game you would think that they'd definitly be careful about who they team up with, and not throw their fates to some stranger they just meet.

I don't remember shit about the Minority Game but as I remember it they all distrusted each other so they wouldn't team up until Akiyama came and gave a crazy perfect plan that would make everyone follow him
It just takes one guy smarter than the average to tell everyone a way that will benefit them for him to lead the game, which is why Fukunaga and Akiyama were the finalists
