3 is the only Keroro movie I thought was really great though. The humor lands, all characters get to do stuff, action is good. Antagonists are an evil clone and obvious counterparts but it works. I kind of wish we had gotten the original proposal with Zoruru and the "other" Kururu, but considering how well the final product worked, I'd fear changing anything.

4 has some good moments, but it often feels like everything gets cut too early, and the humor isn't as good. It's pretty noticeable there were scenes in the trailer completely missing from the movie's final cut (like one with a brainwashed Tamama walking around the castle).

1 is the standard movie version of tv series. It does its job, but nothing much else. The humor kind of sucks compared to most of the tv show and manga, though.

2 feels like a bad attempt at the Disney formula. I feel like I get what they were going for, but it just wasn't very fun. I prefer the manga version, which handles several of the big moments in different ways.

5 was just annoying. It expanded on two pretty good manga chapters, but in a bad way. The movie just feels too slow for something that's missing most of the main cast. The bit with the powerless Keronians also wasn't really funny to me. They should just have been absorbed Majin Buu style like in the recent manga version of the Aku Aku arc. And if they wanted to expand on the story they really should have involved the rest of the cast if they were going to make it so long, rather than just creating more ocs and giving them even more focus.

I love this random episode where Natsumi and Keroro's mother switch bodies. No attempt at a moral lesson about how each one has problems or anything like that, just Natsumi getting fucked over due to a stupid plan to get back at Keroro, while Keroro's mother in her body is shown to be kind of weird but in a cute way, while Giroro almost has a heart attack over and over.

Keroro is more comparable to something like Ranma, in that there is some ecchi due to loose standards of the 90s when it started, but it's really not the focus of the series. And of course, the anime due to starting only many years later, already in the middle 00s removes all exposed breasts/nipples (which also vanish from the manga after the first 6 or so volumes) and pantyshots.

The anime ended, yeah. Way back in 2011, I think. The manga continues, but for a while now the chapters are very short in spite of being monthly, and Shounen Ace isn't exactly a big magazine, most series there are just tie-ins to other stuff, rather than originals like Keroro.

Bandai was the main sponsor of the anime and dropped sponsorship in the last year to focus on pushing Gundam to children directly (SD Gundam, Gundam AGE at the time, later on Build Fighters) rather than pushing Keroro's models as an introduction to Gundam like they did during the 00s.

There are full subs, ripped from some European streaming service.

There is a lot of fanart of those designs, although it's mostly on twitter, so it's kind of hard to search (twitter image search sucks for Japanese for some reason, often skipping results for reasons I can't understand). It also considers as katakana typed together as part of the same word and doesn't do partial searches.

The manga? Yes, but very slowly. It has been almost 3 years now of monthly chapters with only 8-10 pages. It takes a long time for a volume to come out at this pace in spite of the manga not getting any breaks.

There's also a spin-off mecha focused manga running right now too.

For one reason or another, it was an early manga brought over during the boom in the 00's. I remember getting it and Dragon Ball at the same time. I ended up getting volumes for years. Got at least as far as a volume or two after the weird shoggoth girl or whatever she was. Don't know if I still have them.

I wish Tamama was real, though I wish he wasn't so gassy.

Forgot I wanted to mention, Zenkoku Musekinin Jidai is too perfect for Sgt Frog. The lyrics are a perfect description of the series.

Even putting aside the fanservice, something the anime really messes up in the first few seasons is that it removed a lot of black comedy, like the time Keroro thinks Fuyuki died in the sea and makes a horrible looking robot replacement at the end of a chapter, just for Fuyuki himself to be left speechless looking at the thing, or when Keroro and Natsumi switch bodies and in the manga it's all a plan to make Keroro look good by recording footage of "him" beating up "Natsumi", while in the anime they turned it into a lesson about how both had problems that they ignored. Several episodes end up with their punchlines hurt due to that.

They drop that later in the anime though, but by then there really isn't much manga material due to weekly anime vs monthly manga. 90% of the anime is original after the first two seasons. Still, I like some of the later original humor of the anime, like the time Mois gets Kururu's personality in the background of one story, and no one fixes that, then the 2nd story is about her torturing the platoon in a parody of Matango.

Keroro Gunsou was the first anime I ever torrented. Actually, probably the first thing I ever torrented full-stop. I remember having to download DivX Player cos the files had very specific codecs or some shit (seemed like arcane magic at the time but in retrospect it was probably basic as shit)

That was before it got dubbed fully, and all that existed in English was ADV's first attempt at dubbing the pilot

4 gave me a scalie and a transformation fetish so for better or for worse It has to be my favorite. 5 stands pretty well in my mind due to the fact I was still still in either middle or elementary school and I was really excited to see it release. 1 and 3 were good but I did not like 2 for some reason. Sometime I gotta rewatch all the episode. On another note I loved the ost for the 4th movie but finding some of the background music seems to be literally impossible.
