Honestly, it looks bad. As much as i want to like it, i cannot bring myself to. It looks like the cel shaded wolf from Golden Kamuy. They're using cgi to mimic traditional animation and while it look somewhat similar it doesn't look close enough or the same to be good. 3DCG specifically will never be able to look like actual anime though. It can be okay in the background or behind DoF but this full 3dcg just doesn't look right though. It can't express the Manga's 2D art properly, reminds me of Arpeggio. When you're used to 2D as the standard this sort of mimicry wont do.

Reddit tier post. The only noteworthy thing was the gem hair. The bodies and faces of the characters specifically use 3DCG to imitate traditional animation but that's impossible so they end up looking off. Notable downgrade from the original 2D PV. The rest of the cgi which is used for objects and buildings is just generic ps4 tier cgi. It imitates reality there particularly with things like refraction but in an inferior sense since hardware limitations restricted detail comparable to reality. I really truly feel like a manga as good as this deserved proper funding. The 2017 version whilst satisfactory isn't noteworthy and doesn't really appeal to the hardcore anime fan, it's copying of reality is boring. I wish it took advantage of the medium more like the 2D PV does with it's distorted light refraction.
