Honestly I don't get why they came up with Magical Emi one year later Creamy was over, it's basically the same story.

Are you sure?

Yes, why? There's nothing original about it and the episodes are tedious as fuck. They were just shamelessly and lazily riding on Creamy's success.
I have yet to watch Mahou no Yousei Persia to complete the holy trinity but I can already tell from the summary it's going to be a bit more exciting.

"Soulful" is an entirely subjective descriptor

>Do you think anime was more soulful in the 80s?

No. Anime was just as cheap as today. Frankly there wasn't an 80s style, you would know that if you had watched more than 1 show from the 80s (which goes from January 1st 1980- December 31st 1989). The art in Xabungle is way diffrent from the art in Creamy Mami. And the art in Cyborg 009 is completely opposite to that of Kimagure Orange Road or Touch.

We can argue that what has really changed between then and now is that today most anime is not geared towards the mainstream viewing audience (ie school kids), while in the past it was. And the number of episodes of a show has come way down which basically means (even accounting for filler episodes and recaps etc...) it was far easier in the past to have characters undergo meaningful character development over the course of a show which didn't feel contrived. Today we have tens and tens of 12 episode shows that are all formatted the same way. So in certain respects some things have changed and not for the better. But there are exceptions as always.

>Honestly I don't get why they came up with Magical Emi one year later Creamy was over, it's basically the same story.

Because at one time magical girls anime was the hot craze, as isekai anime today is the hot craze. Same bullshit different era that's all.

The truth is, most old anime, videogames, movies and TV shows, do not pass the test of time. The fact that shows like Evangelion, sailor moon, berserk (which is not that old) are still as great as they were back in the day, doesn't mean that all anime from the 70s-95 are soulful, there were many of 'em that were just bad, as in 2/10 levels of bad. Many of the anime we watch this season (summer 2019) are gonna be obscure in 20 years, just as macross is obscure today (and yes, it's obscure). I'm not saying that all anime today are good, I'm just saying that not all anime back in the day were

This is a correct analysis, however there's a generalized decrease in terms of quality of the writing. Productions that want to stay afloat today have to resort to heavy pandering and fanservice, and I imagine this will be even worse in the future. Sure, there will always be exceptions, we'll witness the birth of great series coming out in the future, but I don't see as many gems as in the past. A proof? We live in the era of remakes.
