I participated in the threads when Symphogear first aired, where everyone was laughing about how episode 1 went full edge then turned to a stupid over the top anime about a villain who wanted to talk to God, and after finding out she didn't decided to throw a hissy fit by dropping the moon.
I expected season 2 to be shit but absolutely loved it and for me had the best songs. I thought season 3 was building up to be the best of the series and then just grew depressed at how bad the last few episodes were. When season 4 came I lost all motivation.
Seeing the gifs of Hibiki and Kirika's transformations gave me strong nostalgia and I'm trying to finish season 4.

I mean the issue is they never followed up on it. It went from Miku crying about a dead Hibiki, a concert where civilians were getting slaughtered, Kanadae doing her swan song, and ending with Hibiki entering a town full of dead people to a action series that was mocking itself with training montages and purposefully over-the-top scenes.
Like by the time the anime was coming to the final episode no one actually thought Hibiki was going to die. Originally everyone thought it was going to be a tragic end and was prepping themselves for it. I don't blame anyone who dropped the first season.
