Why isn't this OVA more popular? It's incredibly well directed and animated, and has all the tropes that ev/a/ and l/a/in pseudo intellectuals love, but hardly gets mentioned with other psychological/sci-fi series.
Alien 9
Mangaka is a bro who never to be pretentious, just tell a spooky story about aliens.
Yeah except the manga goes full retard at the end and the author reveals that hes a dumb yurifag when the girls make out with each other out fucking nowhere.
wanted to be
The end of the manga was shit, but the OVA was an amazing adaptation of the first volume at least
Alien 9 does, or did get mentioned all the time.
It used to be really popular here nearly 15 years ago.
And it still comes up a lot when people look for shows with cute artstyles but dark themes, or when pseuds flex about pre-Madoka dark cute girl shows.
It seems like he's not done with the story yet, there are a couple of doujinshi he's written that take place after the main series, but the plot gets pretty hard to follow

Because unlike Eva and Lain, it doesn't try to be intellectual, so that automatically filters out pseuds. In terms of visuals and directing, I think it was completely unmatched until Madoka. It's a beautiful anime with breathtaking visuals that took me years to fully appreciate.
It's been like three days since the last thread.
All the threads die within 10 replies.
That's why more people need to watch/read it, I want to discuss all the weird shit the author does.
That anime ending was really something.
Did they actually make out? I remember some yuri shit happened, but I don't recall it being that overt
The manga did go to shit, but not because it was yuri. If anything there wasn't enough yuri (and the OVA looked like it was on track to fix it).
Fuck, it's been years since I've read the manga. Can't remember anything that comes after the OVA.
Anyone read pic related? Also, any other manga by the author besides Yume Nikki, Battle Royale and Milk Closet?
You know, I kinda like how the anime ended so abruptly.
It was set up so well for a sequel, I wish they had followed up. The dream sequences that the director put in added a lot of depth to the main character, he probably would have been able to fix the plot of the second volume
Victimizing shockshit wasn't that popular until Madoka
It's an old OVA that everyone has already discussed. Do you want 24/7 threads about it or something? Or those 3x3 faggots to put it in their faggy collages? Popularity has never made anything better. In fact you're damaging this OVA right now by bringing attention to it. Imagine how shitty an adaptation made in the current year would be. Dumb fucks casually namedropping and reccing all the good shit without realizing they're playing with fire. Just continue liking it quietly.
Being a yurifag, I remember I was disappointed so it must have been the opposite.
He's still writing a lot of stuff, not sure if it's much good though

Battle Royale was kinda trash, I can understand the hate it got. The writing combined with his art style is just bizzare.
It's trash, Cossette is the better early 2000s dark loli ova
I'd like to see a sequel directed by whoever did the 6th episode of Flip Flappers. The unsettling atmosphere was on point.
Well why even go to Yea Forums if we can't discuss what we like? It's not like I'm ever going to meet someone irl who watched an obscure early 00s OVA.
He was doing just the art for Battle Royale. And let's be honest, Battle Royale was always trash, regardless of the author or medium.

How would popularity make it worse? There was never a full adaptation, it would be nice to have the other three volumes get another OVA to finish out the series.
Where do I get the cute ayliun hat?
To discuss ongoing shows and to occasionally mass-reply. But honestly you're right, there's no reason to go to Yea Forums.
No, it wouldn't be nice. What would be nice is to have a continuation of this OVA made by the same staff, but a new adaptation would most likely be lackluster at best and a disaster at worst.
Just found an interesting interview with the executive producer. It offers a miniscule hope for a sequel.

New content would at least help revive the series, even if it wasn't as good as the original OVA. Then the author might go back and fix the rushed ending to the manga.
Why would he go back when he's already made multiple sequels since? Alien 9 is nothing in comparison to Milk Closet when it comes to messy writing. It's pretty much Tomizawa's trademark.
Holy shit, this guy also worked on the utter garbage that was the Deltora Quest anime adaptation.
>mfw watching eps of this on Comcast on demand like fifteen years ago before I even really knew what anime was
This show definitely had some kind of effect on me. Vorefag btw, pls like and subscribe to my blog.
Please kill yourself.

A manga re-release possibly? I'm just spit-balling, I really want to see the rest of the aliens and bizarre action sequence animated. If they pulled in the production team from the original OVA they might be able to cut some of rushed plot lines and end the series more concisely in an updated adaptation at least.

I can't say I'm surprised that watching that show led to your moral degeneration.
I've never even heard of this. Why was it garbage?
>I've never even heard of this. Why was it garbage?
Terrible writing and directing, bizarre mid 00's 3dcg monster shit fights. The complete opposite of Alien 9.
I agree that the adaptation would have to fix the plot, but they already did amazing job in the OVA. But the thing is, sequel is just not happening, unless someone ever feels like burning a million $. If I'm ever a millionaire, I'll consider getting in touch with producer-san.
>If I'm ever a millionaire, I'll consider getting in touch with producer-san.
Same. All we really need to do is convince Palmer Luckey to watch the OVA though, then it'd be as good as done.
Early 00s seems like a goldmine for anime with a childish exterior but are actually fucked up
I don't know much about that, but Narutaru for one was hilariously bad.
Not op but I've found it because that majimoji rurumo hat thread.
The manga's good, but the anime adaption is one of the worst anime ever made.
Meh, Narutaru was alright. I think of it more as the sloppy first draft of Bokurano than a story that stands on it's own.
(I'm really into those kind of "suffering porn" type stories (Bradherley is my favorite manga as well) so maybe I'm not the best judge of whether it's actually "good" or not.
Miyu a cute!
The OP was amazing though.
I'm still waiting for a full adaptation, they could easily cram those 4 volumes(including the time-skip) into 12 episodes, that or for the author to continue the fucking manga, anyone here in this planet knows what happened with the author?
The OP still gets stuck in my head to this day
Crybaby a cute!
