I want an anime that's dark and will make me cry. I don't think this will be hard, the beginning of Attack on Titan where the titan eats eren's mom makes me cry. I want something like that but consistent. I want to feel like shit watching it. I want to build a bond with characters only to have them ripped out of the anime. Any suggestions?

As much as I like angel beats, I don’t think it fits the op’s criteria. First, it’s not exceptionally dark except for a few characters’ backstories (Yuri’s mostly). Second, whether it will make you cry is hit or miss. While I like Otonashi and Kanade, the 16 (or 13 I forget how many it had) episode limit prevented them from being as developed as they could have been, same goes for that kid who called himself God and Yui and Baseball guy (forget his name). Some of the final few episodes feel a little rushed too. Either way, it’s not exceptionally dark and VERY hit or miss on whether it will make you cry, and I say this as someone who likes the series, but knows people have been pissed off by it due to the poor development of the main characters and even poorer development of the side characters while attempting to bait tears.
