Why are Isekai'd people always overpowered? why cant there be Isekai anime where some computer programmer salaryman is isekai'd into a medieval fantasy world where he must face the fact that is skillset is mostly useless in this new world and he must adapt to the new world by acquiring new relevant skills?

because otaku are usually shitters who dont like facing reality anf having to work hard
Because stat windows and "swing sword 10 times for a level SSSS tier skill" are the only comprehensible thing to the actual retards in japan who feed this industry money, so that's the only thing we're going to get.
>why won't physically weak mcs just get thrown in a world to die in 3 minutes
gee I wonder maybe because it would be boring as shit, just like all of your ideas
>Why are Isekai'd people always overpowered?
Because the point of Isekai is not the fantasy, but the power fantasy.
>why cant there be Isekai anime where some computer programmer salaryman is isekai'd into a medieval fantasy world where he must face the fact that is skillset is mostly useless in this new world and he must adapt to the new world by acquiring new relevant skills?
There are probably countless ones like that also.
>Because stat windows
I'm ok with stats windows,it can be a running gag sorta like in Konosuba. something like having the salaryman be fairly smart but absolutely useless and dumb because he doesn't know shit from the world.
it doesn't have to be action anime. maybe something like salaryman gets isekai'd, find himself useless forced to adapt. he begins by selling some knowledge from our world to the new world (like Kazuma's "inventions" in Konosuba) to get enough money so start as a merchant, but hijinks follow as he doesn't know the rules of the lands and ends up doing horrible trades, people exploiting his lack of knowledge. Basically a bastard child of Konosuba x Spice&Wolf
sounds boring, never write anything
jokes on you! I'm already published. in a research paper, not literature
>isekai'd into a medieval fantasy world where he must face the fact that is skillset is mostly useless in this new world and he must adapt to the new world by acquiring new relevant skills?
They made that 30 years ago.
all the more reason to stay away from fiction, go look at those graphs boring man
>he begins by selling some knowledge from our world to the new world
I'm not seeing anything that hasn't been done at least 10 or so times in other Isekai.
I've seen tons of "same isekai tropes except the hero is an insect exterminator lol/just a farmer lol/he's very cautious lol/actually a girl lol/it's putin lol".
The setting is always the same, they should try doing something like gritty low fantasy without any tropes (especially the retarded stats and leveling systems) or make the series completely ridiculous like jojo.
Spice and Wolf wasn't boring so why would my idea be? all I am asking is to make it so that Lawrence is an isekai'd computer programmer and add some Konosuba humor.
I am not saying we should reinvent the wheel. just stop making all isekai'd characters OP.
because isekai is wish fulfillment for losers
they dont want to be told to put in effort and slowly improve themselves
they want cheat powers now and they want to be the strongest and all the girls love them and would never cheat on them
the girls wear magical slave collars, but even without the collars they are fully obedient and loyal
and if we are on the topic, I want an isekai comedy where two teenager highschooler kid who are in love with each other but wont admit it get isekai'd. but the plot twist is that they swap genders in the new world and now have to adapt to their new gender while re-falling in love and actually starting a romance and I suppose we can put create some kind of maou character they have to fight against to make the action kids happy.
lawrence wasn't a clueless guy in a different world, he was an experienced merchant traveling with a wolf god, he was aware of the trends and specifics of the world which made it interesting enough to watch him
watching some clueless guy walk around is not interesting unless he has some extra power to make up for it
>lawrence wasn't a clueless guy in a different world
but in my isekai he is.
>he was an experienced merchant
its been a long time since I saw spice&wolf but wasn't he pretty green at the start of the series?
>traveling with a wolf god
not during the start of the show. only from the second episode.
>he was aware of the trends and specifics of the world which made it interesting enough to watch him
but the wolf had to teach him many tricks to improve his skills and save him from cons and
>watching some clueless guy walk around is not interesting unless he has some extra power to make up for it
We can make him smart, so he could quickly adapt and import inventions from our world to the new one. and obviously it wouldn't be a one man show. theres a need for a partner, if not a whole crew. someone who sees him stumbling during the first few episodes/chapters and decided to take him and teach him. again kinda like Spice and Wolf.
Because realistically you will quickly die in a medieval world. Not interesting.
>I'm ok with stats windows
Shit taste.
>he begins by selling some knowledge
A modern salaryman has basically zero knowledge that would be of any use in a world with medieval technology.
>i am not saying we should reinvent the wheel. just stop making all isekai'd characters OP
Your main problem is that characters are OP and not that the entire genre as a whole is written (and often literally is) like fanfiction? It doesn't matter if the main character is op, the only thing that matters is if the characters adn the world are interesting.
The trope is that you summon some guy from another dimension who is prophecized to be OP to the point he can end the threats to your world. Its all very retarded.
>but in my isekai he is.
so it's boring
>its been a long time since I saw spice&wolf but wasn't he pretty green at the start of the series?
no, he's old as shit, knows a lot of merchants, all the big cities, villages, religions, customs, alchemists etc.
>not during the start of the show. only from the second episode.
so from the start of the show
>but the wolf had to teach him many tricks to improve his skills and save him from cons and
they had interactions, wow, your guy would still be boring and shit
the "introducing inventions" is always a shitty dead end idea, would you know how to make a battery? or even know how to make lime from limestone? hell no, you just have a vague idea about things so at that point it'd require magic, like in konosuba but at that point what does it even matter, just make the mc a mage god and it's the same shit
not to mention all the isekai manga that gets mocked for introducing some very simplistic technology or japanese food and the natives losing their shit over it, like really, they didn't know how to salt fish? fuck off
Not necessarily, it wasn't really as bad as most edgy fantasy and internet memes would have you believe. The big killers were mostly forces of nature like plagues and famines. You wouldn't just get shanked in broad daylight for looking weird in most places, people are still people. Most likely they'd think you're some kind of retard/insane person.
>programmer salaryman is isekai'd into a medieval fantasy world where he must face the fact that is skillset is mostly useless in this new world.
Record keeping, advanced mathematics (even if it was just long division) and systems knowledge would be invaluable in the right situation.
Because "Guy shows up in different world, gets robbed blind by highwaymen, dies in the woods a week later from dysentery" isn't a very interesting story
So don't tell that story, tell a story about a guy who adapts to his new circumstances and deals with the culture shock that's pretty much inevitable when thrown into a whole different world.
wow that sounds interesting, not
As people have already posted, you're missing the point.
Isekai is a genre aimed at a particular audience (losers who want to self-insert) and what you're proposing is changing the genre's core concept to please your own tastes in detriment of the actual audience.
You're no different from the people aiming to apply censorship on ecchi anime.
Because when an isekai protagonist isn't overpowered like Subaru you faggots complain that he's too weak
>people are still people
So I WILL get shanked in broad daylight for looking weird?
>would you know how to make a battery?
an elementary battery? yeah. but I am an electrical engineer so bad example.
>even know how to make lime from limestone?
no, but that should be in the medieval era toolset.
sounds like a good skill for a merchant, also a merchant would be less boring.
>Isekai is a genre aimed at a particular audience (losers who want to self-insert)
And there will be dozens of isekai's feeding that audience. I am just saying it could expand into new markets.
>and what you're proposing is changing the genre's core concept to please your own tastes in detriment of the actual audience.
its branching off to tap another a new market. Blue ocean strategy. let the other isekai's fight in the red ocean of generic isekai
it's called re:zéro. Of course he can resurect so it's okay for him to die in minutes
People hate Subaru because he has a terrible personality not because hes weak, and nothing about Re:zero screams battle story anyway.
no you wouldn't, you have a vague idea of it but without a laboratory and rare metals you wouldn't be able to reproduce it
you don't know anything that could be reproduced in the medieval era
but whatever write your dumb isekai about "guy who isn't really good at anything and just kinda gets by somewhat realistically", no one will give a shit about it anyways
grimgar
konosuba
>Let's make a porn movie without sex scenes, because every other porn movie are competing against each other and therefore we should aim at a new market
That's how dumb you sound.
>like really, they didn't know how to salt fish? fuck off
When I complained about how Isekai Shokudou is just masturbation over modern nip cuisine I was introduced to that Isekai about a cook living among hunter-gatherers. Only to discover that these hunter-gatherers somehow didn't know about bloodletting and minced meat.
It really feels like most isekai authors never study the ancient cultures they take inspiration from.
>Grimgar
Nice to see I'm not the only one to remember that gem
>no you wouldn't, you have a vague idea
no, I have a decent idea.
>without a laboratory and rare metals you wouldn't be able to reproduce it
A)have you never made a potato battery as a child?
B)give me copper and zinc (both Bronze-age metals) and I can make you an elementary battery. it wont be able to compete with modern batteries sure, but it will function.
C)Why would you even need a battery in an isekai medieval world? you picked a very weird example. why store electrical energy in a world without the ability to harness it? if anything that would be a better challenge than a battery.
D)considering its isekai, and theres probably magic. whatever we know of electrical energy storage is probably useless anyway since everything will probably be powered by magic. unless magic is some form of electrical energy and even then theres probably some crystals which harness it better because its fucking isekai.
>Teamwork
>Threatening enemies
>Character relationships that are not "MC dick all the girls and everyone else either sucks his cock or is jelly".
>MC isn't the center of the world.
Grimgar animu so good. I wish we got more like that and less like Arifureta/Smartphone/Slime/etc.
subaru was isekai'd and he didn't have any powers aside from being able to respawn and look what it made him into
it wasn't a simple respawn, it was fucking time travel and thats OP.
Next give MC more than a single brain cell.
The first question you must ask when writing a isekai is why would you make your MC be someone from another world instead a native. If you want to write about peasant guy who became somewhat successful, you probably don't need a isekai'd MC (also nip writers probably don't know much about economics, that's why we only have like one LN where MC is a merchant in a medieval fantasy land, and it isn't isekai).
No, I'm not going to read that article because I've read it dozens of times.
It's the defacto excuse for faggots like you justify the destruction of entire genres.
Don't get me wrong, I personally believe that isekai is trash, one of the worst thing to come out of the Japanese media industry, but I'm pretty sure that the genres I like are considered trash by someone else. Imagine if that people had the power to change the genres I like to suit their own tastes.
That's what you're condoning. Are you american by chance?
Grimgar was great but I am a little hesitant to call it isekai. if I recall correctly they dont remember anything from their old world. it might aswell be a regular fantasy where the character suffer from amnesia. its still great, just doesn't feel isekai.
>It's the defacto excuse for faggots like you justify the destruction of entire genres.
how is branching out to tap new markets the destruction of an genre? on the contrary. if we keep borrowing the ocean analogy the isekai will end up eating all the fish in its ocean and kill itself doing it. the only solution I see is isekai branching out to new markets or the industry stopping shitting out so many isekai and flooding the market will low quality shit.
> Imagine if that people had the power to change the genres I like to suit their own tastes.
how do you think new genres are born? did you know that way back there was no sci-fi genre and works we would now classify as sci-fi were considered fantasy? same goes for subgenres, high-fantasy low-fantasy - they all branched out because people stepped out of and decided to change the genre.
Only if it's a multicultural world.
Is there a single, actually based isekai? Shieldhero was supposed to be edgy, but turned out to be a moralfag 4 episodes in. Kazuma was getting close but he will still remain an eternal vigin and be banned from doing anything sexual to not offend the hikikomori fanbase.
All I want is an isekai where:
>protag is not ridiculously overpowered by episode 2
>IF every female wants his dick, he actually acts on it. At least at the very beginning.
>Female characters have more character traits than their archetype and obsession with the MC
>MC makes actual friends
That's not to much to ask, is it?
This would be very short and boring anime.
faraway paladin
All I want is a Doom anime. You learn to live with the pain, laddie.
>every female wants his dick
>Female characters have more character traits than their archetype and obsession with the MC
Pick one and only one.
He is OP.
Subaru is a weak
>Time travel
>Weak
If the dude is competent, somewhat strong and is isekai'd into an attractive body it's not unlikely that the female cast will be attracted to him in some way. But if he decides to whore around, which we would all do at first, that should have consequences. Then again, being a moralfag and keeping all girls in the friendzone should also have consequences. You can be the biggest chad on the planet, women will still move on quickly as soon as they realize you are a dense autist who's never going to make a move.
The key here is to have the relationships evolve. The MC having 5 perpetually moist maidens around him 24/7 whilst never making any moves and the women never once losing interest in him is what pisses me off so much.
There are a few isekais where MC fucks his harem, but these usually don't get an anime adaptation. Btw, it seems shieldbro's anime was toned down a lot.
the synopsis for this isekai sounds boring
It's almost like LN writers can't write for shit, really makes you think
yeah you are right user we should make 10 more isekai pandering garbage with powers!
fucking trash
It's isekai, what did you expect?
>what is Handyman Saitou
at least make it interesting like the slime isekai or some dumb shit like that, not that its any good but it makes it not generic
not quite what I was thinking, but I might read it
That's not even half of it. Considering even little known on things like steam power can go a long way. Furthermore, programmers should have knowledge on processes and workflows for optimization purposes, which implies clerical optimizations so I can already imagine a fight between a modern day programmer and the fucking record keeping clergies of ye olden days (you know, because they despise change)
Grimgar, but 90% of the fags here said it's boring, slow, dull, etc.
It's the only isekai that made me read a LN.
I get what you mean but the weird thing is that Isekai is one of the most interesting ideas for fiction and something that almost everyone has thought about at least once.
>what would I do if I was teleported into a medieval society
Sure, most isekai adds magic and demons but the core idea is still fascinating and it should be done right at least once.
I'd love a show were the MC knows he's going to get isekai'd shortly before it happens, maybe through dreams or something like that. Then he can spend a week or so to try to learn everything he thinks might be useful to take into that world. Making electricity, farming techniques, advanced metal working, whatever. That way it's no asspull that the MC somehow knows everything or stupid shit like him taking his smartphone with him won't be necessary. No superpowers, just a normal dude who has some powerful know how trying to survive (and maybe conquer) that world. Making allies, trying to get rich and influential but always being cautious, since the forces of that world either want him dead or want to get a hold of his knowledge.
A man can dream
Tanya
Drifters
Spirited Away
Now and Then, Here and There
and...Konosuba, I guess
Read Grimgar.
If you want some edgy retarded fun read Dungeon Seeker.
It was a fun ride, truly, the Kino Seeker.
(It's bad but enjoyable )
It is slow, but it has a certain charm to it.
Not this shit aga...
Kazuma will marry his loliwitch waifu several volumes later.
It's the more realistic Isekai you could get, that's why it's slow, they don't rush shit. Life is not a race and they're truly LIVING in another world, not just leveling or some shit like that.
t.Grimgarfagot
>almost everyone has thought about at least once
That's literally the problem. There're lots of shitty isekai because every NEET japanese with internet connection wants to give it a try.
With a cute cacodemon bestgirl.
>he must face the fact that is skillset is mostly useless in this new world and he must adapt to the new world by acquiring new relevant skills?
Because self insert salarymen want to believe they can use their high IQ in order to overcome such petty challenges.
>Shieldhero was supposed to be edgy, but turned out to be a moralfag 4 episodes in.
How is he a moralfag when he's a slave owner and is buddies with the local slave trader
>CTRL + F "JK Haru"
>0 results
You guys are missing out.
His first slave was released, but wanted to become his slave again.
But doesn't she have a power to grab powers through sex? Sounds useful.
Yes, but that isn't revealed until the last chapters, and only makes use of it once.
And he isn't exactly buddies with the slave trader.
it has ONE chapter
Read the fucking novel.
fuck that, I want to look at visual ecchi
>never does anything inappropriate with his hot as fuck raccoon waifu who is pretty much in heat for him
>never baps the birb
>prevents the execution of literally the worst cunt in history
>pic related
>his "slaves" are either have their mark because they want to, or them not having a mark wouldn't change anything either
>never takes his revenge on the people who wronged him, even when he had the power to easily do so
and worst of all
>he didn't demand the use of the queens fertile womb as a compensation for his duties and not abandoning the kingdom
>never does anything inappropriate with his hot as fuck raccoon waifu who is pretty much in heat for him
to be frank, I wouldn't want to see that happen, I want her to stay pure, maybe im just a faggot
>prevents the execution of literally the worst cunt in history
didn't expect much from this scene, knew the execution wouldnt go through since the show needs to appeal to normie audience
>he didn't demand the use of the queens fertile womb as a compensation for his duties and not abandoning the kingdom
this, god damn I cant wait for the doujins that are gonna be released during comiket
He fucks Raph in the LN.
Doesn't he fuck an entire harem there? Or was it just WN?
Trash and Bitch had future roles in the plot for the LN thats why Nao couldnt just kill him them off.
If you're going to spoonfeed recommendations at least don't be retarded about it and list every well known series
Power fantasy and self inserts go well together
That's the wn, ln hinted at a monogamous relationship with Raph so far
heres a crazy idea then. dont self insert, dont do power fantasy. do comedy, do drama do anything other than power fantasy.
You forgot to add me, her loving husband!
Why? Because you don't like it? They are merely doing what sells
I want an isekai in which some jaded from our world is switched with someone from the anime "world". The place were everything is "boring and ordinary"
I want to see how that person interacts with a world as chaotic as ours
>Why?
for the sake of variety. it is the spice of life you know.
>Because you don't like it?
that too.
>They are merely doing what sells
and they can keep doing that, and in parallel trying something new.
I am a simple man. I see MMO shit, I drop.
That's good, them getting a family with a bunch of little raccoons would be heartwarming.
If MC's background never becomes relevant to your narrative, why give yourself that burden? That's called wasting the reader's investment. That's why series like Danganronpa and Zero Escape are seen are shit.
This scene also pissed me off. I've heard she simply kills the guy in the LN and they just toned down it for the anime, but is still bullshit. Also Shield guy feeling pity at bitch and trash is even more ridiculous.
If there was a reason, the anime certainly failed to show. If the plot demanded them to be alive, there were much better ways to save them. Shieldbro could've seen through the queen and stepped back, they could have imprisoned them forever, made use of the slave seal to force them to work, etc. The solution and reasoning given in the anime were literally something a 12 years old would come up with.
I want an isekai about a nognotian called Glorb reborn as a trewiffle and forced to gather clibberbrankles. That will solve the self-inserting problem.
Actually you do bring up a good point, why didnt Naofumi have them placed in solitary for the rest of their lives as mental torture.
>because he has a terrible personality
isn't that kind of the point? dude isn't even that bad most of the time, just that one stretch in the middle, when it was a plot point
its compiling to adversity. in our world he is a successful computer programmer, he made good money with his skills but it was all striped away from him when he was taken to this foreign world where his skills are useless and he suddenly has to work the most menial of labors just to make enough money to survive.
>They are merely doing what sells
The japs have no idea what good for them though and just keep pumping out the same shit that fails after 1-2 seasons. The anime industry is probably the worst case there is when it comes to underestimating the audience. People are starving for shit that's at least somewhat new and ambitious.
Just look at normie sites like MAL. Ignoring overrated seasonal shit that still has to move down to it's true rating, the "anime community", as much as I despise that term, has pretty decent taste.
All the japs have to do is make their stuff accessible in the west and then give cash to good directors and let them do their thing.
ZE is awesome. But the 3rd just couldn't live up to the hype. DG1 was good, but the rest kinda sucked.
Are you aware of No Game No Life
In the spear WN, we find out that the catacombs have secret passages known to royalty so they could've escaped. and while the seal could keep malty inside, the king isn't affected by slave seals.
It was a full on bossfight ending up with raphtalia pushing rabier off the window rather than him tripping on one of his whips. Then again he survives and unseals the monster.
The pity thing was an anime only thing.
Shield guy inmediantly demanded the execution of both Bitch and Trash, he couldn't care less.
But HotQueen kinda begs him to not execute them.
what isekai is that
Well how about this Naofumi finds a nice rock formation then opens a hole in it, then chains down Bitch and Trash in the openings so they cant escape. Raphtalia uses illusion to make people never notice that rock formation to prevent anyone from helping them escape. Bitch and Trash are left alone in the rock formation unable to move as they starve to near death only for someone from Nao's group to give them unseasoned meat to live off and stagnant lake water.
BnK has you covered
If trash wasn't a variable then your plan could work.
Well what about having Sadina beat the shit out of Bitch for fun? Then send the beatings as a recording to Naofumi to enjoy.
bnk?
>Putin isekai
Unironically would watch that one
Yeah its trash, but it was never meant for you, it was meant for bored lonely japanese salaryman who just want something nice to read after a full day of soulless work, are you a japanese salaryman? No? Then you can move on happy with the fact that this garbage is not for you.
Ride-on king. MC is basically putin in a isekai.
I hate when they do this. Can't we have at least a single adaptation that is faithful to the original source?
You don't necessarily even need the powers, but if you're just gonna make the MC a total shitter with no applicable skills and whose only existence is to suffer from his uselesness, then that's not really much of a story now is it?
I agree that giving powers to the MC kinda defeates the point of the whole isekai thing, but if the MC had some applicable skills from his own life, such as the ability to make guns and powder or simply having a far greater grasp of warfare or economics than anyone else in the era he is transported to, then he'd still be OP in a way.
No.
Thanks user will check it out later
Why can't we simply have a comfy isekai where MC becomes a merchant and travels around the land with his monster girl?
Shieldbro was great during that part, and there's also Spice & Wolf (despite being native isekai). More authors need to do that.
The point of isekai is escapism
What the fuck is this bullshit answer?
Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" nailed that kind of isekai way back in the 1800s.
Because it wouldn't just be MC being a merchant. He would also have his super special MC-only power that would make it so that he would never be in danger and give him an advantage in everything he would ever do.
Holy fuck even isekai from the past has more substance
>if you're just gonna make the MC a total shitter with no applicable skills and whose only existence is to suffer from his uselesness, then that's not really much of a story now is it?
Depends. If the MC is a NEET nip, then I agree. However, you can simply have the MC be a go-getter that manages to build a stable life in another world without relying on cheat powers and asspulls. Imagine some guy like Bear Grylls teaching us how to survive in a medieval fantasy world. I would watch that.
Go fap to sone cartoons, loser
By the time saddina is a thing malty's far away from anyone as possible.
It's a shame they would never adapt Martin Padway's adventures.
