The drawbacks suck for regular people but Naruto is an Uzumaki, who genetically have obscenely deep pools of Chakra, on top of siphoning energy off of his tailed bitch. On top of that, every pre-timeskip clone works primarily on tard strength, which Naruto has in kind.

Fast forward later into the series and there's virtually no drawbacks to Naruto using it. The reason he uses it so liberally is because it's basically free.
