Tsubame is an older, basically college aged girl with a totally different (and more realistic) perspective on relationships and sex. Meanwhile Ishigami is not only younger but also still pure and wide eyed and idealistic about relationships. These factors - age and views on sex and love - are what suddenly caused this huge drama when the time came. Whichever perspective you personally agree with, their isn't really anything particularly wrong with either. This manga has time and time again been very realistic and forward about sex and relationships among the characters which is one of the interesting things about this manga.

I personally don't see what the shock is about. Tsubame likes Ishigami but doesn't want to be in a relationship, but was happy that he felt the way he did. You can call it pity sex or whatever you want but I really don't think it was that shocking. Not to say it wasn't shocking at all, but not worth having a mental breakdown over.

In her case it's not necessarily a matter of LDRs, but the fact that those type fo relationships require time and investment, and if she wants to be focused on her studies and career, then that's an issue. However, she does like Ishigami enough to have a sexual relationship with him, without becoming a couple. It's not necessarily that she doesn't want to be in a relationship because she wants to meet other men, but simply because for whatever reason, she isn't willing to commit and she was honest enough to tell him she didn't want a relationship. Had she wanted to, she could have fucked him right then an there, play him like an idiot, and then dump him as soon as she goes to University.

This is also good for Ishigami. For someone who's been in the otaku lifestyle for so long, it's good he learns how women are and how complicated relationships between men and women can be, as opposed to the over-idealised things you get in anime, manga and the like.
