Why don't you own an E-reader yet, Yea Forums? You can get a last gen paperwhite second-hand for 50 bucks these days, and 300 ppi is perfectly fine for manga. LNs look great too.

Because I own a cellphone.

Because I own a smartphone and a computer

You guys seriously read manga on a 5 inch phone screen? I think I'd throw up if I tried to do that shit.

If you've got an IPS portrait display or something, I guess you can make do with a monitor, but it's still not great.

I've wanted one for a while, but I've just never gotten around to researching what would be the best fit for me.

Ereader sceens are 6 inches and less sharp.

Because I own an 10 inch tablet, which actually lets me see volume covers and color pages

I have a first generation ipad that I got for free. an e-reader would be nice, but I'd definitely want a 10 inch screen

I told myself I wouldn't buy an e-ink ereader until they released a color one. That was around 11 years ago.
I continue to see next to zero value in black and white eink devices when most of what I read are magazines.

My phone has a 5.5 inch screen, and it's literally only as tall as the one on my e-reader. The difference is that my e-reader is way wider.

300 ppi is as clear as you're going to be able to resolve from the distance you're using a display like this anyway.

Color is a gimmick, but if you want to read magazines e-readers are a terrible choice anyway, they're not meant for an A4 format.

I've stood next to Super A1 color e-ink. The technology works fine and is perfectly suited to that and any other formats.
They simply won't bring it to market. Their choice, but so is it my choice to not patronize them because of that.

Because I own a tv with a computer link to it.
+ I only read it on my phone in the bus anyway, and I don't care if I can the perfect pixel on a scan anyway. After all I read old mangas that have colored pages so why should I spend 50 boxes in a tool that will not even have a use as a door blocker ?

For anything you need color for, you're better off with just an LCD tablet anyway. Faster refresh. There's just no market for color e-ink, because the majority of applications are for black and white print.

Even at the larger A4 size, the applications are people who need to look at PDFs on the go, not read magazines. And those medical and research PDFs are all designed for black and white so they can be faxed and printed cheaply.

they're ugly

6" is on the small side. I really wanted one of the 7 or 8" Kobos for a while, but they fucked up by ditching the SD slot on newer models, which makes a huge difference in manga capacity.

At least the latest 8-incher has a 32GB version, which is more practical than 8GB. Still wish it had that slot though.

I don't really have an issue with 6" for raw manga. It's basically the difference between holding the book an inch or two further away, everything is perfectly legible.

In an ideal world, maybe I'd have something bigger for more breathing room, but the price goes up exponentially. I'd rather just hold it slightly closer.

Get a Likebook Mars like me

Cold and warm light

Also webm not mine
I'm not retarded I set my Comic Screen app to turn pages left to right

6" felt small to me when I last tried it, but e-ink sharpness has improved since then (170 -> 300 ppi), so maybe it's more workable now.

170 would be straight up unusable, but 300 is fine. Amazon released a manga edition of the old paperwhite in Japan with 32gb of storage years ago, I've got no complaints with my 4gb model because cycling shit out is easy enough.

Because e-readers can't display color. I have a 10" tablet instead.

I used to do this. It was kind a neat gimmick. But, desu, the screen isn't quite big enough a lot of the times. And when I looked for bigger kindles I saw they abandoned the paper-like surface to make generic iPad ripoffs instead

they're laggy as fuck

Kindles are made for real reading. Manga isn't reading.

Hello, speed reader.

Yeesh, is that really what eink looks like when turning pages? Do you get used to it quickly or something?

>s-slow page turning and laggy ui is suppose to be immersive!
okay grandpa

These are the trade-offs you make for a display that looks like ink on paper.

Dat bezel tho. I'm not sure I dig the real-book aesthetic they were going for, but it's an interesting choice.

I can't see why anyone wouldn't choose these e-readers when there are enough cheap 10' tablets that look fine.

for me it's mainly battery life. On a single charge I can read on this thing for 2 weeks to over a month, depending on how much I use it.

Well it's because of this, Also e-readers help in just focusing on books and nothing else to distract you. I can't shit post on an e-reader.

My nigga.

>Yeesh, is that really what eink looks like when turning pages? Do you get used to it quickly or something?
The guy set it to refresh whole screen every page
You can avoid it but sometimes get ghosting

>but sometimes get ghosting
Oh, so that's what it is...

>that font size
What are you, a casual?

>I can read on this thing for 2 weeks to over a month
Unless you go camping and such I can't see a regular need for such a long battery life.
I can read manga and watch anime on the tablet for hours and I've rarely seen the battery drop below 60%. I imagine it'd have a few day's worth in it if I tried. I assume games are the sort of thing that drain people's battery, not manga.
Also I never really saw the benefit of it looking like ink. There are some manga I own the physical copy of and ended up reading it on the tablet.

I use e-reader to not hurt my eyes. If I didn't care I'd just use scans.

>I can't see a regular need for such a long battery life
Probably because you were born after 1990 and don't remember when we used to charge our phones once a week

>I can't see a regular need for such a long battery life
I never leave the house, and having an E-reader I only have to charge once every few weeks is a fucking dream compared to my phone, which needs to be plugged in every few days even if I haven't touched it.

Charge cycles kill batteries, so leaving your shit plugged in forever isn't an option either. Ideally, we'd have devices with removable batteries, but that technology has been lost forever because electronics are considered disposable now.

I'm 31, that doesn't mean I want to treat life like I used to.
Do you set your download cap to 20kb/s to recreate the good old days as well?

You are retarded

Long battery life = good thing
Slow internet = bad thing

Jesus Christ

Do you read in "reader" mode or what? Because blue light fucks your eyes

My tablet can last a month if I never use it too.

I've once not used it for a little over 3 months and the battery was at around 20% I believe.

That refresh looks annoying

>That refresh looks annoying
while true,
in real life you don't turn page 3 times a second like a maniac

a good art manga page can be on your screen 10 to 20 seconds depending on amount of text and detail you want to look at

Don't do that.
I bought one and now i spent more time reading books than manga and playing video games.

Subtle

Yeah, I have a Kindle DX and it's shit storage is the (main) reason I don't read manga on it.

Because tablets are now like 200 bucks and can do a lot more than just read books.

My computer, my TV, my phone, and a bunch of other stuff I use can do all those things. E-ink displays are amazing for my eyes and have completely removed headaches from my life.

Tablets are trash for literally everything. Need to check twitter on the shitter? A phone is better suited. Want something with a big screen? A monitor is better. Want a computer on the go? Laptops have been around for years.

E-readers do one thing, but they do that one thing WELL. It's why I still own a fucking dedicated MP3 player, because the battery in it will last a month instead of my phone that dies in a day.

>paying 199 for a reader when I already have a tablet, a PC and a laptop.
No thanks. Studying is easier with a computer
