Must dump chapter 2 as well
is this HISTORICAL EDGE done properly right?
No idea about historical accuracy but I like the portrayal of clerics here. They're educated people who know shit and can manipulate people. And they're no good at all.
Just the fact that these witch trials are post-Luther makes them far more historical than most depiction of witch hunts out there.
Yooooo
She kinda looks like Tomoko here
Teh end
Thanks for the recommendation, OP.
I'll read it.
You missed W27, breh
Oh silly me
>church bad
>women highest position
>gonna kill everybody by myself
Pathetic manga. Does the japs have nothing else besides going "CHURCH BAD"?
People, the old man on your right has been found with a book on witchcraft? What shall we do with him?
>witch trials post-Luther
>conducted by evil, evil Franciscans
>not Protestants like in Salem
>not the filthy Judaizing Puritans in the New World
>still promoting the stale Catholic Ecclesiastic Tribunals meme
>ignoring the historical fact that there was such a thing as Protestant Inquisitions
>bloody persecutions of Catholics where they were hanged, drawn and quartered
>many, many, many, many more victims than the Catholic Inquisitions
>meanwhile the Tribunals of the Holy Office in Spain and Portugal sentenced to death an average of 3 people per year with the vast majority of them being in the beginning of the inquisition
>nope, muh Catholics are ebil because memes told me so
It's all so tiresome. Japs can't into religion.
Thanks
Why didnt she just say the priestress is a witch and she is leading everyone?
Cope.
Are you 12-years-old?
DHE GHURCH EBIL :DDDD
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
You don't really believe that could work.
Perhaps if she knew someone close to the priestess that she would want to protect she could damage her credibility by making her veto it.
Mature response, have a (you).
Bump
v frustrated by prot brained manga. gave up spice and wolf, and Maoyuu Maou Yuusha b/c of it. started reading vinland saga, and stopped like 10 chapters in b/c the theology was so stupid. is there any manga which involves the church which doesnt suffer from it? would appreciate any recommendations
I understand your frustration. Nothing that you can do about it though. You should still read Vinland Saga, it's a masterpiece, even if it gets some things wrong about Catholicism and Christianity, the religion is still portrait in a positive light and is even given a much greater focus later on.
>is there any manga which involves the church which doesnt suffer from it? would appreciate any recommendations
No, I'm sorry. If the anime/manga is talking about Christianity, especially Catholicism, chances are that it'll only infuriate you. Japs simply can't into Christianity for whatever reason. The only non-offensive anime I've ever seen that has tackled the subject in a respectful way was the film Night on the Galactic Railroad, but that was written by a Esperanto talking Buddhist and it's a bit too syncretistic for my taste but oh well, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. It's the antitheses to Angel's Egg, I say it's worth checking out at least.
Have a blessed weekend, brother.
thank you! I will definately give Night on the Galactic Railroad a look, and Vinland Saga another try.
I joined the church last year, and it has had a v. unanticipated impact on my media consumption (Shogun was my favorite book as a teen etc.) - have grown v tired of wicked medieval church trope.
A blessed weekend to you too.
I understand, bother. I myself have been a Catholic ever since I was born but only somewhat recently have the tropes been bothering me. The Roman Catholic Church is the single most propagandised against church, this alone should compel any sufficiently honest proddie to reconsider his hot takes. Unfortunately that is seldom the case.
If you're looking for some nice, thought provoking Catholic kino, you should watch Martin Scorsese's 2016 film "Silence", about Jesuit missionaries in Japan. The Mission (1986) is also a delightful watch. The Passion of the Christ is also a great secret Catholic kino that unsuspecting proddies generally don't pick up on.
Anyway, it is great that sin offends you, user. Catholicism is a religion of rationality, Truth is one of our highest aspirations. Historical falsehood should offend us just as gravely as any sin. Please have a pleasant weekend.
Thank you! I will give all of these a look.
I have seen a fair amount of Mel Gibson movie appreciation from catholics; I looked at Jeremy Irons wikipedia page a while ago re Brideshead, and he too seems to be a fairly good egg (insofar as celebrities go).
Thinking about picking up a copy of The Stripping of the Altars, as have seen it recommended often in the context of prod propaganda.
I hope you have a pleasant weekend to. Its late here, and I have mass in the morning, so - Goodnight.
Deus vult, the witches deserve it. Just look at it, that is the face of evil
So what you're saying is that scientists are charlatans?
>its the church is anti scientific and evil trope
I want off this ride
No?
I am saying that Church knew all along that fungus was a case of disease but didn't do anything about it.
Yeah it'd definetely better than the usual manga attempts on this topic. Also that they show it was partially an inside fight between catholics and lutherans, not evil religious dumbasses VS the rest of the world. I have also never seen a manga mentioning this , which is correct.
Yeah with hunts were common after 1450 and mainly from 1550 till 1680 or so, but 90% of the people always assume they were a typical medieval thing that happened around 1200 or some shit.
You are about Protestant inquisitors. And most catholic inquisitors were Dominicians, not Franciscans and the initiators were basically always non-clerics. Actually, most Vatican people as well as bishops and the like condemned that people were believing in witches in the first place because it was considered unscientific. The manga is still better than the usual shit you get though. I wouldn't even blame Japan, most western stuff dealing with this topic is just as bad.
Knowledge is power. And they pretty much abused it cleverly
I have a feel that the japs don't know about the counter-reformation.
>instead of just grabbing the girl he killed the horse
Fucking poser
