If you never read depressing stories you are missing out on like half of the emotionally spectrum of storytelling.
I don't have the study at hand but sad music also lifts the spirits of many as opposed to lowering it, stories are similar for me in this fashion and after a period of sadness you may also experience a heightened level of joy.
Also they certainly give me greater odds of reflecting on things.

You literally watch this guy from his time as a child to his time as an adult. You watch him become someone different due to life circumstances.
It does have some depressing parts to it, but man, I wish I could reread it.

This manga small revelations are refreshing to hear. It is not that they are new, everyone thinks them at one point, it's just that they are in one place where I think about them all in the same period. I think it is partially responsible for some user's reception of GN Punpun. if you don't think about these things clearly from your perspective, hearing it from someone else's will force you to think about them and contemplate.
