What do you think makes a good shounen protagonist...

What do you think makes a good shounen protagonist? I know for example that people tend to dislike Deku because he doesn't really have any redeeming qualities and isn't very "hero-like" but as far as I can tell people don't seem to like balls of optimism that much either, often because they're kind of one-note like Gon, who's like that to the point of being a fault

Yugi was based, because he really grew up as the series progressed. From a shy lonely boy to the most popular person in the industry.

Only really visible in the manga, however.

Katekyo is my jam but why is it on there??
No one even likes that anime anymore these days but me

A backbone. As long as they have (or progress towards acquiring) that, it's fine.

I've been thinking about how Spider-Man is basically the perfect Shonen archetype. Humble, never gives up, funny, perpetual underdog, all the bitches love him.

It was big back then when this pic was made also the author of the Pic is a Fujo. Honestly It was good at the beginning but for me it became retarded and bad the more it continued.

I think Goku when he's not flanderized as a blithering idiot exemplifies some of the core traits of a good shonen protagonist. He's goofy and fun loving when he needs to be but has a backbone when times get serious.

Ah yea I was forgetting how old that anime was

And how old this picture would even be from all the characters in that picture

But yes I agree,I loved it but it gets very confusing at the ring part
I should maybe reread it

Flawed, should rely on others and has room for growth

>Retard Protagonist
All shonen heroes are the same.

Till the end of Varia arc it was awesome and even now I still have a soft spot for it.

Progression of character

If not that, the character should at least be entertaining enough on their own to progress everybody else's character. Basically the best shounen protagonists are people you actually want to see every week and not get bored doing so or regress the story. Conan and Luffy are my favorite protagonists of active shounen manga for this reason.

-Likability
-Backbone
-No Talk no Jutsu shit (unless it is VERY well-justified in the story)
-Development

Perseverance, amibition, growth, failure, ability to learn.

He also has 2 major tragic backstory moments for development. There's a reason why he's one of the main dividers between the Silver and Bronze Age of superheroes

deku is just a crybaby who bases his entire personality around hard work despite being gifted the best quirk on a silver platter and asspulling every fight he wins.
at least naruto had flaws - he was dumb, offended people by accident, and actually had genuine hard-work arcs showing his determination. of course the hard work narrative got scrapped eventually as it does in every shonen, because secret superpowers are more exciting

You're not the only one user.
I discovered the anime and was hooked. Up until the Varia arc was the best, but I whole heartedly enjoyed the entire anime.
Then I picked up the manga afterwards and... man the ending left a lot to be desired.
Still fun, but looking back I should have stopped with the anime.

wanna know how I can tell you didn't actually watch/read it

Talk no jutsu is probably the best thing about Naruto. Yes,it's extremely justified in context,he is showing everyone how wrong they are for their hypocrisy despite bieng a hypocrite himself often for the same theme of the arc.

mental retardation? i watched 3 full seasons and it was pretty much all shit. for one thing, most of the quirks are boring or fucking goofy, the rival is nothing but an edgelord and not that smart for supposedly being a tactical genius, and the one scene that genuinely could have been cool (deku "saving" tori) was executed poorly
nomu fight is the only good part of the series

God I want to read a book to Akko. To explain her all the complicated 4 syllable words.

What is the combined IQ of all thr characters in this picture?

only sam raimi's spiderman, that new spiderman is dog shit trash

You know there are decades of comics with Spider-Man which is probably what he's talking about

Lemillion would've been an infinitely better mc than deku. I'd argue that his 13 chapters of screen time are among the best moments in all of anime. Kek at boku no deku fags.

Cute and fuckable with feminine peni

i don't read gay ass comic books so I wouldn't know

1000, if you let luffy add it.

They are more likely to be great if they aren't between the ages of 13-17.

Hot and not ugly

Only soiboys and low test virgins hates goku. He's FUCKING BASED!
> What do you think makes a good shounen protagonist?
Ability to beat badass faggots and save his friends single handedly without any help. Yes, classic mcs like Kenshiro and Goku are the best.

On the other side Decuck, Ichigo, Naruto etc are fucking trash. Luffy? I dunno, Can't say he's based. He was a toy during Marine for arc and couldn't beat shitty Doflamingo 1v1

Based Brazilian user.

It's kind of hard to make one at an older age though because you run the risk of not getting the interest of youngish boys around that age as your target market- also if you do thinks at that age you can just have a teaching environment like an academy or a group of skilled people that can do all the teaching to the young MC which is a staple

I'm russian tho. Gokufan since 1995.

>But yes I agree,I loved it but it gets very confusing at the ring part
The ring conflict was actually the best part of the anime.

>Ability to beat badass faggots and save his friends single handedly without any help. Yes, classic mcs like Kenshiro and Goku are the best.
Goku never beat a single main villain in Dragon Ball by himself. In fact two of them were beaten by other people

Being unhinged.

Legit true

>strives to improve not only himself, but everyone else around him, even some of his opponents
>is flawed and knows/accepts it, so he devises ways to fight that minimize his weaknesses and make creative use of his strengths
>works with his friends in team battles instead of just being a one man army swooping in to save the day
>has a friendly rival to compete with on roughly equal standing instead of some edgy bastard chasing him and getting mad about always being three steps behind
>so loyal to one girl that he doesn't even notice the harem slowly starting to form around him
>muscle-headed and dumb enough to be funny, but not so much that it becomes cringe-worthy
>self-deprecating humor

Asta's great except for his shitty Japanese VA

>manlet
OH NONONONONO

Apparently it is being stupid because Luffy is dumb as a brick and I love the fucker.

Ichigo was fucking based, retard.
Protects his family to the max
Saved his friend from execution (took on the entire Sereitei for that).
Became the only one capable to kill Aizen.
The only time he was shown as weak was when he lost his powers.
He then had new powers and used them to kill the guy who was trying to take advantage of him.

TL:DR Ichigo good, you suck

>Talk no Jutsu
Yako did it best. She couldn't fight and it was literally the only thing she was capable of doing, but it was a concept Neuro couldn't grasp so they complemented each other well. I liked her quite a bit.

Attached: x35.jpg (750x1269, 109K)

One of the two reasons I dropped BnHA early on is because I despise characters with the "crying as a constant gag" schtick. Does he ever improve in that regard or is that something he still does?

t. soiboy cucks
kys fags

it being an asspull is the furthest possible thing from doing it right

>No argument
I accept your concession

Attached: 1538579253381.png (640x480, 249K)

Fuck retarded protagonists. Completely. I'm so done with the "humorous antics" of 75IQ gorillas.

That and he only ever talk no jutsu'ed ones that are clearly twisted parallels of himself.

I just want my protagonists to not be idiots. Not that it's intrinsically wrong, but just overplayed.

Hasnt really happened for 100 chapters, ended after season 2
