The 5th volume was the most boring one, but every good anime/manga/tv show/movie franchise always has that one arc/series/volume/movie that everyone agrees was the worst. I don't think we should discount the series based on that and it's making a great comeback with the 6th volume. Hex Maniac Sensei is probably my third favorite so far (after Demon sensei and Tomboy sensei).

it was honestly a smorgasbord of terrible ideas. saya was 100% better than homura in every single way, child genius who skipped loads of years is a retarded trope and it doesn't fit the theme of dating your older teacher, the guy was insufferable because he couldn't shut up about saya. if arcs in this series were more than 10 chapters I would have dropped it until the stalker teacher showed up
