Seems like the current era is a rebellion against the early 2000's era. Because the tsundere character everyone hated always fucking won in the past, now they're losing all of a sudden. And the quiet or nice character is actually winning

Even in Rebuild 2.0 Rei kinda won until Anno retocnned it all since he kinda hates the idea of Rei winning since he sees it as escapism.
