Name a better Mangaka than Keisuke Itagaki

I like Baki but it's an acquired taste, lets be honest here OP. Also his early and his later/current art is his best stuff, his "middle era" art looked really unrefined without the charm of his earlier art in my opinion.

Attached: Baki - Son Of Ogre - c144 (v18) [Unknown].zip-014.jpg (788x1100, 187K)

Imposible, Baki is both the best and most important artistic endeavor of all time. Not just manga.

His daughter.

I'm sure Baki is a good manga, but the illustrator's grasp on anatomy is fucking terrifying

He goes fully intentionally overboard with it, makes it distinctive to say the least.

I can't think of a single Mangaka who is worse than Keisuke Itagaki

Attached: x15.jpg (733x1200, 193K)

Is Baki the cringiest crap to ever come out of Japan?

>holding an objectively incorrect opinion

its for expressive purposes

I have never seen a more grotesque depiction of muscles in my life

nah

Strong is beautiful

Itagaki seems to fetishize the masculine form. He creates these flesh golems with such exaggerated morphologies, juxtaposed with the extreme violence and body horror - you really have to be into the idea of grotesque power-fantasy violence to enjoy it.

I like how everyone has a tibia longer than their femur and calves as big as their quads.

If he moved at a faster pace, he could maybe be called the greatest.

It's really too bad at how slow of a pace he moves. We could've gotten the Dark Continent arc already instead and be done with the succession war that's literally not even at the mid point already. Like we still have yet to see Hisoka on the goddamn ship.

I prefer most mangaka to Keisuke Itagaki desu.

Baki provoking Olivia into a fight is pure kino

I'm pretty it's people looking for self-inserts who get disappointed by it, the MC isn't present most of the time. Never seen anyone who does like this series self-insert or use it as some sort of power fantasy.

gay

Too bad the manga has been shit for years at this point

WHY IS BAKI SO FUCKING SMALL I FEEL LIKE HE GETS SMALLER EVERY SERIES

Or, instead of some reaching, roundabout pop-psych mumbo jumbo to declare you superior for liking a fucking manga, people like different things

he just meets bigger guys?

he's got the little mac syndrome

Madoka, Attack on Titan, Dead Tube, Made in Abyss

LOOMIS

Holy fuck, she's his daughter? That seems to explain a lot but also seems bizarre since they don't want to acknowledge it. Surely she should have used a penname.

He didn't say anything about superiority.

It's a meme there's still no proof of it

Paru doesn't like being asked that, someone should try asking her on twitter.

Nihei is now a hack now that his works are now too white.

Masculinity and violence are disgusting and repulsive. But somewhere within is the beautiful imperfection of the human condition. All purpose is essentially insanity, the meaning of life is unknowable, all that we cherish ends up being love and our relationships with others. The fighting was just a different form of language for those who'd gone mad with adrenalin.

although there are certain arcs within it that are genuinely pretty weak in my opinion

...

I agree completely. Late Dou and nu-Dou took everything good about his art throughout all the parts and blended it together perfectly. I absolutely love the matte look together with the thick brush strokes, as opposed to the shinier and more oily look in part 2 and 3. They looked more like bodybuilders than they did grotesque martial artists. I also like how the wrists and ankles caught up with the muscles and are looking thick and solid.

Did the author forget how to draw regular people? The prisoner is meant to be somewhat normal, but he still looks like a monstrosity.

Is this a bait? Cuz every manga reader knows Itagis human proportions are fucking retarded among all authors

He draws normal people (civilians) all the time and they look fine.

only those who are dressed. He can't draw naked non muscular body at this point lmao

It's the Health Inspector

It's possible I guess? He doesn't really have any need to 90% of the time I suppose.

Attached: x15.jpg (741x1200, 171K)

Baki seems to be the only manga in existance who gets the punching face right. All the rest of them just keep their mouth open or pull some cringy smile like this but Baki actually nails what it looks like when someone is throwing a high effor punch.

Attached: 56354264.jpg (546x583, 197K)

Igaki wouldnt even manage to do a featureless body like in that picture that doesn't look all fucked up and ugly
Hes a hack

but that page is from Baki?
In general everything in this series is extreme and over-exaggerated, for better or worse.

Attached: x14.jpg (737x1200, 176K)

He's also pretty good at depicting the force being conveyed. It's also incredibly to see the punches and kicks in Baki REALLY connect. I can't really think of another manga that does it as well as Baki.

>develop a style that's easily recognizable
>hack
hack would be him half or even 1/4th-assing a drawing because he didn't felt putting in the effort..

he has gone soft

This was going to be my next praise.
Just for comparisons sake, here is a high impact strike from baki and a high impact strike from one piece.

CLANG

Nope, this is 100% correct

I don’t know what it is about Mizukami, but his manga makes me cringe. There’s something so cringeworthy about every page, every panel, every expression and line of dialogue

Dr Stone exists...

High T as fuck.

She's not his daughter, you retard.

It's a joke
even the nips are in on it, why is there always one guy who responds in this exact way despite this being pointed out every time?

Attached: 73305150_p0.png (4093x2894, 2.53M)

Why did Itagaki make may man Olivia job to this dumb sumo autist, feels bad bros

Jokes can easily be taken at face value by people that don't know better, so it's better not to spread falsehoods if you can help it.

There are a LOT of people who think that it's for real and that it has been confirmed.

because nippon strong
I genuinely do think something changed in the way Itagaki writes at some point though, I don't feel like the current Itagaki would write Jack tearing through almost everyone including guys like Shibukawa now like he did back in the Maximum Tournament for example

This man was 10 years ahead his time.
He drew like this when the standard art style was cheap crap like devilman, astroboy or kinnikuman.

It's up there.

>when the standard art style was cheap crap like devilman, astroboy or kinnikuman
I wouldn't denounce them like that, devilman clearly had moments in which the style would convey intensity(pic related) or surreal imagery in a very detailed manner. Astro boy was based after cartoons as anime was birthed from it in that time and despite that osamu tezuka still showed impressive imagery in his works(phoenix as an example). Kinnikuman's art while basic at first, eventually evolved to display strong toned muscles and facial features way before tetsuo did it.

Why Yujiro feel like a total bro on this arc? he looks like the most excited about the team thing and always cheering his crew without looking down on anyone.

more like the fanbase has become pretty autistic

I mean, at least going by this thread it seems like one of those series where most of the thread is made up of autistic people hating on it. There aren't that many people on here who even read this series, they're all talking about it in a normal enough manner though.

The only artist who draws more grotesque men than Itagaki is Mosquito Man

which chapter?

nah its kino actually

>he catches the wheelchair with one finger

absolutely based

I think it's about you, not him. There are a lot of people on Yea Forums and I have been here long enough but this is the first time I see all of his works being called cringe.

In his own way Yujiro is a fair man. He doesn't pick om weaklings that know their place and respects people showing true character. It's not been really expanded upon but he's Oliva's friend among other things.
So it makes sense he acted like that in the tournament.

As an actual body builder, this manga makes me furious. It's so pants-on-head retarded that you can almost instantly tell that the cuck drawing this is 90 lbs soaking wet.

post
BOD

You missed the point

I'm a faggot who enjoys looking at bodybuilder dudes but this is just so ugly and gross to look at. I tried getting into Baki a couple times but the outrageous anatomies made me drop it.

You have 'high impact strike' in next panel you fucking retard. Oda showing here that Luffy used haki you utter moron.

Fuck off oda forgot how to draw years ago don't embarass yourself

t.shit taste

>Forgot how to draw
>Still better than everyone else

Well no, in the next panel you have someone just flying away and that's a bit different
What I posted is the moment of impact you dung

Ken's not really brooding
he is lacking in depth though, the supporting cast get more background focus than he does, although people still manage to misunderstand his simple character all the time somehow I've noticed

>you can almost instantly tell that the cuck drawing this is 90 lbs soaking wet.
He's ex-military
Also as others have said it's just over-exaggerated and hyper-stylised

>As an actual body builder
Just because you can lift the bar doesn't make you a body builder

agreed

Wtf happened to Olivia?
He was so strong early on.

Shit's just good.

He's kind of like a stronger Haneyama where he just gets by on his raw strength, right? I think he does strength training and stuff but hasn't had combat training per se, so there are gaps there. Though I do think he shouldn't have gotten wrecked by Sukune as hard as he did.

Attached: Sukune.png (518x394, 101K)

Can't fight you when you're right

Indeed. The man draws kicks like no one else.

He's Japan's Frank Quitely

More than simply ex-military, he was a Ranger in the 1st Airborne Brigade.

I personaly like theusage of black and white in berserk realy much, every colored adaption lacks something

Attached: berserk-guts-2.jpg (432x288, 51K)

He's like the step between guys like Doppo, Jack, Hanayama and then Yujiro.

People aren't very deep.

Don't post shit like that on Yea Forums you scumbag.

It took me some getting used to but now i fucking love the ugly ass art. It fits the manga well, makes it distinctive.

Hanayama's might be stronger than him at this rate, Musashi-Dou made him seem way stronger for some reason
though it's not always just a case of straight powerlevels, Shibukawa for example is just a hard counter to Sukune's way of fighting

I agree. Olivia should't have been wrecked as he was. I really hate to use this phrase, but my man Itagaki did Olivia dirty.

His grasp is probably better than most. He purposefully exaggerates and twists it.

*tips fedora*

I just typed 'manga' into google

Baki+Tough+Kengan=trifecta
I hope this is true. I'm too drunk too argue.

it's like whiskey or cigars, it's an acquired taste. A point might come in your life when you're tired of looking at beauty and want to see something ugly.

>Musashi-Dou made him seem way stronger for some reason
Hanayama keeps getting powerboosts to make him stay relevant because of his popularity

Attached: baki popularity poll.jpg (740x533, 124K)

It's true.

Tough is criminally underrated.

They aren't, are you a deep and complex character? I know I'm not.
People are pretty simple all things considered, and thats a good thing.

This idea that a character has to be complex with depth is more a literary task than something rooted in reality.
You thinking that I'm some kind of neckbeard for saying this say more about you than me.

holy shit the fucking gorilla got votes

Based yujiro

Where the fuck is Teppu?

Its good that the two most popular are the characters that actually should be. I hate when morons love literally who side characters for no real reason.

*tips fedora*

I liked Tough but it just gets pants on head retarded after the Jet fight, you can clearly tell he was just making shit up as he went.

>Yujiro first with double the votes of the second spot
As it should be

Teppu's great and basically required reading for people who like this genre in my opinion but it suffers from being an unfinished work, Natsuo's the only truly fleshed out/realised character in it.

All Rounder Meguru's a fun lighter series too though it's even more focused on MMA as a sport than Teppu is.

I thought it was a deformed girl in a hood blowing on her finger.

Riveting comeback there bud!

Attached: 1561523299281.jpg (1004x684, 290K)

Teppu is pretty damn good. But it's not squeezing stones do duets levels just yet.

To be fair, Hanayama is THE Baki rival. and he's got a pretty damn good base level, so it make sense that he's got the rank that he does.

O MY DEMON BACK

Who is 15?

Does anyone know why the English dub changes Oliva to Oliver? Oliva is the real name of the bodybuilder he's based on, so it's weird.

I like Hanayama and I'm happy he stays relevant but if we have to be fair it makes no sense how strong he keeps getting, the latest example being Sukune revering him after treating Oliva like literal garbage.
Hanayma doesn't even train.

because he's a nigger wristlet

But that looks absolutely ridiculous.

Yasha

*tips fedora*

I'm guessing Netflix doesn't know who Olivia is?

Olviia jobbed hard. I can chalk it up to Olivia not knowing sumo, but that shit was fucking stupid. And Hanayama trains. It's mentioned when he fights Yujiro, I think?

Because the translators had absolutely no familiarity with the material prior to working on it. You can see this in both the Netflix shit and in the 'official' manga translations of the second series by that one company (DO NOT BUY THEM).

Hanayama doesn't train; that was a mistranslation by the previous translator. I haven't gone back to fix it yet because we really just don't have the time or resources.

>Absolutely embarrasses Biscuit and breaks all his ribs like pretzels
This is like saying Musashi wasn't a jobbing conga line because he "lost" to Retsu when his pegleg broke

He means after that

>and breaks all his ribs like pretzels
Oliva did that to himself.

So Hanayama doesn't train at all? God damn. Do you need cleaners btw? I'm assuming you're spinyback.

>So Hanayama doesn't train at all?
Yeah.

We have everything we need cleaned - years in advance on that front, actually. I just need to enslave more skilled redrawers. HnG seemed to have some promising slaves.

>early on

Might have thought that that 'Olivia' was just Jap phonetics causing 'Oliver' to be mispronounced. They didn't do enough research.

Hambuger>hanbuga/hanbugu style

Jeez, that basically changes Yujiros entire speech. I always thought he kinda praised Hanayama for training despite being naturally gifted. Somewhat.

I'm retarded. Isn't cleaning and redrawing (basically) the same thing?

It's not a jobbing conga line because only one character has jobbed to him so far, he then got beat up rather one-sidedly by Baki and memed on by Shibukawa after that.

I don't think anyone disagrees that Olivia got unfairly shat on here, but it at least does not appear to be another Musashi setup going on here.

Teppu is OK, but nothing compared to the stuff mentioned. It has neither outlandish characters, a compelling story nor is the art particularly good.
I wouldn't rank it above Holyland, Meguru or Garouden.

>Isn't cleaning and redrawing (basically) the same thing?
Depending on who's using the word. Are you saying you're a redrawer?

This makes Rob Liefeld's art look tame and on model

I get that the Convicts Arc was well-liked but Sikorsky being more popular than any of the others is really bizarre to me
a shame that Jyaku Kaioh and Yuri Chakovsky didn't make it to the top 20, I've personally always wanted them to return (though they'd probably just job I guess)

Shut up, retard

Itagaki's carried by actually being able to do good fight choreography to be honest, which Liefeld can't do

Itagakis art looks good.
Liefelds shit is fucking atrocious

I don't agree

Attached: 46356ce44fce27291f1a695582c0067e_original.jpg (1552x873, 450K)

>and on model

itagaki is the original author, so his art is by efinition on model

I agree desu. I really do like Teppu, but it's nothing more than your run of the mill MMA manga.

I have no experience what'so-ever when it comes to scanlations(some PS experience, I can do some neat pages seamlessly), but IIRC, it's what you needed for the first Baki part to get finisihed, and I'm more than willing to help if that's the case.

Based helpful user

>8 pl8
how do I achieve these gains

Right except you are wrong.

I think Teppu's MC is pretty compelling, she'd basically be an antagonist in most other series
I'd definitely put it above Holyland's teenage angst stuff

Cestvs is also worth mentioninc. Basically Historie meets Meguru.

Holylands mangaka is good with angst.
The fights are also a lot more exciting.

Itagaki's style may be bizarre but it is unquestionably intentional and inspired by japanese tradition

Attached: fujin_01.jpg (720x540, 126K)

I think Teppu's MC is a bit below Holyland's when it comes to motivation and projection(I guess). Teppu is basically "I'm basically too strong/good, what to do". The fights are pretty damn good though.

Despite its visual flaws, Holyland is such a good fucking MMA(I know, fuck off) manga.

I like Cestvs but a lot of the fights follow the same formula, I'm getting tired of every single fighter ever having a tragic backstory (a lot of them have pretty similar ones even) that we get a big flashback about mid-fight

See the prisoner from part 3 further up in the thread.

Attached: MMex.jpg (800x1671, 272K)

Such a good fucking fight.

LMAO, see the OP I mean.

lmao this trolling

>Yuichiro getting top 5 despite having showed up literally like 2 times
ABSOLUTELY BASED

Attached: 17_-_1.jpg (265x353, 40K)

Liefield's faces are just fucking terrible.

Itagaki's faces are great, I am not.

I wish sikorsky got an actual decent fight. His matchups were pretty unlucky and we never really got to see a fight with him that wasn't him getting his shot pushed in. I mean he beat Garland right? So he should be fairly fucking strong

Garland was still injured from his fight with Jack at the time

If you can redraw things like this, then we'd be happy to have you.

Attached: i-044.jpg (777x1200, 334K)

I can, but honestly, I'm way more interested in getting the first one up. Heck, I can just use the Yea Forums translations if given some direction.

Why is "pro wrestling" present in martial arts manga like kengan and baki? Is it actually that big in Japan?
Pro wrestling fights/arcs are always so boring. It even feels wasteful sometimes. There are so many niche and barely explored fighting styles in manga that could get their own arc and we get fucking play pretend stuntmen

'actual' wrestling as opposed to pro wrestling is legit to be fair

It's kinda boring when you know what the deal is. As in, tanking everything.

Actual wrestling is totally fine and legit. I love grappling fights. I'm talking about "sports entertainment" or whatever the fuck you call it. The thing john cena and the undertaker do. It's not a martial art

Pro Wrestling is pretty huge in Japan yeah. In Baki it basically stops showing up after a point though.

Itagaki got too far up his own ass with the 'Spiritualism' side of martial arts.
We'll never see MMA or Wrestling or Boxing in a good light again because they don't have the same mental aspect to them.

It's odd because the current arc absolutely is about the current state of Sumo as a sport, but he keeps injecting all this spiritual stuff in there anyway

Garouden is much better then baki.

Boxing was always a common occurrence in Baki, though.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE FUCK DO YOU EVEN READ THIS SHIT.
THERE'S LIKE 5 DIFFERENT MANGA
WHAT IS THE FUCKING ORDER
WHAT IS THIS MESS

>better mangaka than the guy who draws fetishistic body proportions and body compositions, with nigh perverted storytelling
gee, I wonder...

You just described 90% of all mangaka tho, dude.

In the past sure, but at this point unless Itagaki can spend a couple chapters espousing on some spiritual techniques or traditions then it doesn't attract his attention in the same way.

I want to see Itagaki continues with Baki if only to see him keep making fun of US presidents

"pro wrestling" is not entirely fake, especially the way it's fought in japan. They actually have to know how to take and give a hit and how to grapple, along with exeptional physical prowess..
Essentially while being a good pro wrestler doesn't equal to being a good martial artist many pro wrestlers could get pretty far with some specific training and experience.

And there was a pretty strong japanese mma fighter whose experience was being a pro wrestler and getting into bar brawls.

right to left. it's not hard

Everything I see from Baki makes it look like the most basic bitch example of an anime/manga like by normalfags purely for the wacky and alien logic that it runs on so they can go online and say DUUUUUDE JAPAN IS CRAZY LMAO

C'MON SERIOUSLY
THERE'S JUST SO MUCH

>Baki the Grappler
>New Grappler Baki
>Son of Ogre
>Baki Dou (Misashi Dou)
>Baki Dou 2, current manga
>Everything with Gaiden in the title is a side-manga and can be read at any time after New Grappler Baki

>"pro wrestling" is not entirely fake, especially the way it's fought in japan
Well, "strong style".
It roughly translates to "i make it look and sound impressive but both me and my opponent are going to become permanently miserable and broken when we're past our 40s as a trade off".

Attached: Vince.jpg (1728x910, 61K)

Ok.
This is a fucking mess to follow, and there seems to be some drama with some translators, creating missing parts here and there.
I'll try my best.

Attached: jk.jpg (480x480, 55K)

That's pretty much it. Itagaki does a very good job of combining obscure amateur science with over-the-top presentation. A lot of his works have poor return-reading values because the reasonings are questionable, flimsy or outright self-contradictory. But he's just that good at seizing your intrigue, for 3 minutes at a time.

You'd scoff, but no other mangaka does it like Itagaki. Read Hunter x Hunter's chimera arc when they started storming the kings palace for an example of poor imitation

Parts 2, 3, and some Gaiden stuff are completely scanlated, part 1 and 4 are about 75% done each, but there are translations for all the chapters somewhere, just not compiled on the pages
As for part 1 there is an (albeit not great) anime that's subbed if you don't want to bother reading and looking at pictures separately

I fucking wish that Baki was some basic manga. It outright excels in some areas that no other mangaka(s?) come close to.

The writing in Baki has gotten way too NIPPON STRONK for my tastes.

I woudnt say Araki is better, but he is a top 5 mangaka at least

Attached: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 8 - JoJolion - Vol.19 Ch.77 - Let's Go to TG University Hosp (975x1400, 2.3M)

It's not even the fact that it is all super exaggerated. It's how homoerotic it is combined with that exaggeration. Baki feels like deviantart fetish shit sold under the guise of an otherwise decent manga.

There is no way it's author and it's biggest fans are not jerking off to that.

bump bitch
