it really does seem like fujimoto took a dozen measured steps and peered over every corner to try and prevent any reasonable evaluation of "edge" in context. the problem lies with ignorance and what is essentially the fault of reductionist views in media that guarantee only the most unambitious works gain traction within the duped general subpopulation of people who'd give manga a chance in the first place. basically, fujimoto gets the cherry on top and it'll be much harder to get a full slice of cherry pie. kinda a shitty analogy but the situation is also super shitty. the situation is also what is responsible for a billion sequels in the entertainment industry and other incredibly overstated problems with society as a whole

It went a little too quickly for Denji to become a "fuck the police I just want some food"-type of character.
He was a poor fuck who sold half of his balls for nothing, really. He fell for the first person offering him more than a meal a day and when he had the chance to enjoy jams for the first time he put 10 on the bread at once.

Wish there was more time spent with humble Denji before he got spoiled like that. Maybe this is what devils do to you.

Notice that she asks to run away together. They are bonding extremely nicely which is an awful thing in Fujimoto's manga since it puts Power in huge danger of being killed for Denji's development.

fujimoto seems very aware of the idea of being edgy. people will see edge when there isn't because they tend to evaluate things at a glance.
fujimoto's efforts to constuct the story and avoid edge seem obvious. people are often way too knee jerk today. what's so difficult about understanding that?
