Immelman's dancing amounted to nothing after episode 5, worst girl won, side characters may as well have been cardboard cutouts, Windemere in general was just insipid in every way. The writing in general was incredibly lop-sided like Mirage may as well have not existed for all the attention she was given as an alleged central character especially in contrast to Mikumo.

No one developed, everything was in a weird stasis where they kept looping through the same plot beats but never really advancing.

But more than anything, the music seems to be detached from everything else even in the scenes where it plays, which is the one crime that a Macross series should never commit.

part of it was writers vs Producers and Directors.

Conflict was stale and boring. Can't even remember how it ended, just that they fought against the wind dudes a bunch of times. And the love triangle stuff was a waste of time because it was so lopsided. Freyja was a special singer with a shortened lifespan and a link to their enemies; meanwhile pig ears was just a tsundere shitty pilot

A lot, but at least it's better than Frontier.

I want to say something to contribute to this thread but I can only think about how Mirage got her confession ignored in front of the entire galaxy.

I thought we were going to finally get a Macross where the pilot is good at using the battroid configuration since usually they just fly, but no.
He just gets better at flying and magically becomes a top-tier ace.

I rarely come across characters as useless as Hayate, but he literally does jack shit.
Compare that to Alto who was the driving force of his show and ends the finale after a fully realized character arc.
It's like this show lacked any passion aside from that of making money of otaku who just want the same 5 anime girls with a new coat of paint.
