Why does Yea Forums act like Evangelion was never a "normalfag" anime up until recently?
Why does Yea Forums act like Evangelion was never a "normalfag" anime up until recently?
because newfags showed up asking questions
It the first line of pleb filter defense
I don't see how cringe Shinji could possibly appeal to normalfags. Looks more like a self insert for incels to me. How can a well adjusted humid bean not hate Evangelion's entire cast?
>implying normalfags don't have depression or anxiety
stop acting like you're special faggot
That's like saying
>implying normalfags don't like cute girls
You don't see them watch Gochiusa now do you?
you ever read game of thrones?
It's popular among normalfags in Japan, and popular among otaku in the west
Yea Forums is out of touch
No I haven't, but I don't see how the protagonist in GoT is supposed to be like Shinji, or how the characters are supposed to be as pathetic as Evangelion's entire cast. Isn't the point of that series that there is no protagonist but rather 50 different characters with equal levels of focus? Only watched the first season of the show and never bothered with it since, but that's the impression I got.
I ask because its not that shinji and GoT characters are similar, they arent. In GoT you read about evil character and protags that have terrible flaws as characters by themselves. Like people watching. You got shinji and people will want to know why is this kid such a bitch. You know?
Watching evil people do evil things is entertaining. Evangelion's characters are not. They are merely pathetic, Asuka and Shinji in particular.
Yea Forums is now Yea Forumsermin territory, teenagers trying to be as hipster as possible and trying to shit on anything new or popular. Oh well.
It's more like normalfags don't want to see how mental illness actually looks like in whatever media they're watching. Evangelion presents itself in a very flat way, whereas in other shows it has to be portrayed as somewhat cool or """relatable""". There's so much unnecessary drama sprinkled over shows that focus on mental illness, which is why normalfags end up obsessing over them. Just look at every single portrayal of autistic characters.
well user, people watch you and are entertained for your failures. Its a cruel world.
nah they are from Yea Forums
thats because gochiusa is for pedos
you are unironically worse than shinji if you like moe anime
You have to go back
We'll get the fuck out then
Evangelion was a normalfag anime even in the 1990s. It speaks volumes when clueless people pretending to be oldfags pretends that Evangelion was a part of some secret elitist vanguard.
When Eva first came to the West anime magazines called it a fad/trend that would go away and an Iczer clone
Yea Forums is the normalfag
Literally everything on the catalog is normalfaggotry
>Netflix makes NGE highly accessible to normies
>it becomes a normie show
simple as that
NGE was highly accessible to normalfags for two decades now.
Actual normies don't know anything about streaming other than Netflix and hulu and never torrented a thing in their life.
>normie
It's normalfag, Yea Forumsermin.
No. Anime was not a normalfag thing in the 1990s. You could argue that Sailor Moon and DBZ were normalfag because they aired on toonami in the late 90s, but no well-adjusted person would have publicly admitted to watching them back then.
TV anime was at its most popular in the 90s and early 00s though, ironically enough. A lot of the best-selling anime franchises globally came from the 90s.
What the hell are you talking about? Were you actually alive in the 90s and early 2000s? I graduated high school in 2003, and anime was not something that anyone who aspired to social normalcy could admit to watching back then. It may have been popular among proper nerds, but it certainly wasn't mainstream.
Because it's fucking not. There are very few normalfag anime. Battle shounen and maybe OPM are normalfag anime others are seen as incel shit normalfags
Anime barely even airs on TV in the West anymore; in the 90s it did and early 00s it regularly did.
And from my experience graduating high school back in 2005 a lot of the girls were unironically fujos who followed manga and wouldn't shut up about Inuyasha, Cardcaptor Sakura and Fruits Basket.
Adding to this they actually drew Azumanga Daioh on the wall for a school contest in like 2004. It's probably still there.
How do you explain the assload of merchandise it has in Japan if it isn't?
Japan=/=the rest of the world.
Plus even in Japan it's known but still seen nerdy.
Anime was popular in late 90s and early 00s because it was pushed on TV and was easily accessible to people who didn't even know what anime was, then sometime in the mid-00s it stopped airing as much on TV and became an internet phenomenon, thus becoming much more accessible but only accessible to people specifically looking for anime so it became its own bubble until Netflix came along and made it accessible to the masses again.
People whio think evangelion is an artistic masterpiece are that same that think postmodern art is art.
It aired partly on Adult Swim for fucks’ sake
It’s on par with FLCL and Bebop
