At that point it didn't matter anymore. The series was main character development was over with and they wanted to end it on a high note. Hiei finally finding happiness made the entire final arc worth it.

Yusuke's character had a complete arc by that point of the series, so Togashi introduced the demon bloodline shit so he'd have a reason to keep the series running for a little while longer.
