She could be an incredibly entertaining character in the vein of someone who studies others and plans contingencies based on simple things she could produce and perhaps the understanding of physics, chemistry, etc. If she can create grenades and cannons, how high could her ceiling be in terms of inorganic matter? Traps, diversions, chemical warfare like gas, nerve agents? Complex alloys, body armor, razor sharp filaments, camouflage? And that's just the battlefield.

The moment the match started he started attacking, hitting her shield hard enough to eventually knock it away even as he was moving her back several feet each time. And even if she made a lucky guess, she would have needed more than a flashlight, more like brilliant flash grenades that would have damaged DS enough to make him retreat. And don't forget DS' speed, and strength. He could have done like Iida, grabbed Momo by the shoulders, and pushed her out of bounds before she could have done much about it. This just was a bad matchup for her. Like against Bakugo was, for DS.

She didn't make a shield and pole because she thought that was the best way to defeat Tokoyami, she made them as a quick and easy defense and offense to give her time to think of a better strategy. And her team would have won the class match with her strategy. It's not her fault Komori could make mushrooms inside people and that she didn't know Manga's quirk. It's ironic when people screech bad writing but then demand bad writing. It's telling how the most parroted suggestion is for her to make a gun, which is both unsuitable for a hero without an aim-related quirk and doesn't suit her character.

This applies to Deku (a supposed exceptional strategist) as well because he like Ochako also thought that she simply only had to touch Bakugou to secure the win because it would float him away, even though Bakugou has shown before that he could fly with his quirk.
Hori wants to portray his characters as having high intellect but is too much of a brainlet himself to write it convincingly

Actually, against Tokoyami, I think she should have used smoke grenades. She didn't know about light being Dark Shadow's weakness; but unless he had supernatural senses, he needed to see her to attack, and enough smoke to block out the sun would have done that. Then, with DS distracted, she could have focused on DS' real weakness, Tokoyami himself. He's not physically strong, if she could have gotten close enough to hit him with a stick, or from a distance with a crossbow with a boxing glove on the arrow, she might have managed to knock him out and win. Non-lethal attacks, all the way.
But she didn't do that...

I like the idea that some anons have suggested with her using chemicals spraying out of her body or whatever. Like when an opponent gets into melee range she could equip a gas-mask and then spray shit like pepper spray or skunk spray, highly powerful depressant/hallucinogen/roofies or whatever she needs for the situation instead of relying on sticks. Right but Dark Shadow is not an argument against using a gun in general. Beating him would require a bomb. A gun would still be very effective against the USJ invasion, against Aizawa since he couldn't erase it, against Kendo, Shihai, etc.
