God I wish that were me

newfag wants a 1 to 1 explanation of art
also this

you guys saw the eva meme she posted right?

Read Schopenhauer, Sartre, Nietzsche (only Zarathustra) and Freud.

You know what, the proliferation of these Eva memes on /a and even /tv finally pushed me to read the instrumentality article on the Eva wiki page and it was pretty straightforward.

Kind of funny that I watched the original 26 episodes like 5 years ago in college and never bothered to figure out the Steele conspiracy stuff. It kind of adds a layer to the loneliness of the human condition theme which is going on with the kids in the show. Also it’s kind of similar to the vibes of the old people in rosemary’s baby or being John malkovitch, but this is /a so yea

>Freud
Is Asuka jealous of Shinjis penis?

Gainax ran out of money so they scrapped the original planned ending and did a bunch of random shit for the laughs vaguely based on a couple of old anime

We will finally have Instrumentality. TAKE THAT DRUMPFT

Attached: DNLDDRMF.jpg (800x700, 90K)

It isn't tho

It's extremely simple, Hideaki Anno is a giant hack and stole literally every idea from the vastly superior Go Nagai.

get the fuck out normalfag

The money ran out around episode 16. Anno fell into depression and the team went crazy.

>cool its a show about ayy lmaos fighting robots!
>oh its a show about all these weird fucked up characters coping with the end of the world
>no wait its actually a therapy session with the director in which he preforms a Freudian analysis on himself to diagnose his own crippling mental problems

when someone talks about NGE and mentions freudian psychoanalysis without addressing the coherent abrahamic symbolism consistently employed throughout the show, its a surefire way to spot a brainlet.

angels are literal aliens that arrived to earth at the same time of humans.
Instrumentality is just a big soul made of all the humans on earth souls. Evangelion is a show that focuses on depression and social interactions, all the lore and story is vague on purpose and based on kabbalah. All the "what the fuck" scenes are made for shock value. The ending is the author going full nuclear and btfoing otaku and nerds with basic just be yourself and go out

DUMB FROGPOSTER

So it's based off Code Geass?

but user, are you forgetting that (((Freud))) was also obviously versed in kabbalistic lore?

You forgot Hegel.

It’s about cloning a literal God and putting said clones in controlling armor to fight the Gods monstrous children.
Also the clones have your moms (or a younger clone of yourself) souls in them.

only if you read him through hamann and herder, not through lukacs and marx

You need to read evola in the original latin to even begin to understand evangelion

Her odd familiarity with Rei hints at something. Whatever it is I’m sure it’ll be somewhat interesting.

4 billion years ago a extremely powerful alien race known as the First Ancestral Race (FAR) seeded life across the galaxy. They sent seeds on moon-like vessels with a control mechanism (lance of longinus) and a manual to explain wtf they were (dead sea scrolls) in case other races came across them. The 1 golden rule was that no 2 seeds could be on the same planet as you could achieve powers rivaling the FAR and it would be disastrous for a primitive race to do so. The FAR themselves combined into a singular being in an alternate dimension known as the chamber of guf and then eventually died, waiting for their souls to be reborn in their new races.

The white moon containing the seed Adam lands on Earth. Adam's children (Angels) are gifted with the Fruit of Life which makes them strong and durable but not very bright. All is good for a bit and Adam's offspring evolve. However the Black Moon containing the seed Lilith malfunctions and crashes on Earth. The crash is known as First Impact and is so huge it creates the moon from the debris. Lilith's lance is destroyed in the crash, so to prevent 2 seeds from coexisting Adam's lance puts him and the angels into suspended animation. Lilith thus inherits the earth and all biological lifeforms evolve from her (from bacteria to modern humans).

4 billion years later in 1947 Adam's Dead Sea Scrolls are discovered and an organization that has been secretly controlling the world known as SEELE becomes obsessed with creating the idealized/supreme evolved form of humanity. They find Lilith under Tokyo and also learn of the location of Adam in Antarctica. SEELE organizes the Katsuragi Expedition to find Adam, and then engineer it so Adam awakens. Upon awakening Adam gets butthurt that Lilith offspring are on his parents and tries to send out a wave to kill all Lilith-based life, but the expedition manages to use Adam's Lance to revert him to an embryonic state. The world gets btfo still in 2nd Imapct

part 2 incoming

After 2nd Impact SEELE sets up Nerv/Gehirn to begin the Eva Project. Adam's DNA is used to create the Eva's except for Unit 01 which is based on Lilith. One of the Nerv researchers Yui Ikari is the daughter of a high-ranking SEELE member and has her own agenda, and intentionally fuses with Unit 01 during a contact experiment. Gendo loved Yui and is distraught from this so he tries to clone her in the form of Rei and begins his own plans to be reunited with her. As part of this plan Gendo inserts the soul of Lilith into Rei, but Rei is killed by Dr. Akagi's mommy for insulting her (as Rei still had some residual Yui in her and got jealous of seeing Akagi and Gendo flirting).

Eventually the angels reawaken, intent to merge with Adam (which they think is being kept under Tokyo) to start 3rd Impact and wipe out humans. SEELE meanwhile wants to put their souls inside the mass production Eva's and use 3rd Impact to use all human souls as fuel to turn them into Gods. Gendo wants to use 3rd impact to reunite with Yui.

Asuka's mum did a contact experiment with Unit 02 that resulted in her losing her motherly essence/love and went crazy. Eventually thinks Asuka is a doll and kills herself.

Rei dies, and each time she does Lilith starts to become more dominant in her.

During the battle against the Zeruel Yui reawakens inside Unit 01 and eats its S2 engine, a organ Angels have that allows for perpetual/infinite energy. This is one of the things needed for instrumentality.

After Yui takes in the S2 engine and Gendo starts to act more independently, SEELE sends Kawrou to try and initiate 3rd Impact for them. Kawrou is the clone of an unknown human with the soul of Adam and still has instinctual desire to fuse with Adam and wipe out human life. However he becomes infatuated with Shinji. He discovers that it's Lilith under Tokyo, not Adam, and merging with it wouldn't kill humanity just initiate SEELE's impact. Defeated Kawrou lets SHinji kill him

With Kawrou plan a failure SEELE is now forced to directly attack Nerv and try to take Unit 1 and stop Gendo from initiating his own third impact. The Mass Production Eva's piloted by clones of Kawrou kill Asuka. However the 3rd clone of Rei betrays him and hijacks 3rd impact but puts Shinji in charge of it, letting him decide what to do. Ultimately all human life combines together inside the Chamber of Guf save Gendo who is killed by Rei-Yui for abusing Shinji too much.

Shinji in the end realizes that individual human bonds are worth it even if you get hurt (this is literally his big revelation) and rejects instrumentality. He sabotages the process so that any human soul that wishes to be independent again can leave instrumentality. After an unspecified time alone surviving on the sea of LCL Asuka reappears in front of Shinji. Shinji is a bit loopy from everything and tries to strangle Asuka to see if she's real or if he's still in instrumentality. There's no negativity inside instrumentality so Asuka would not resist there. Instead Asuka does something unexpected and caress his cheek. Shinji realizes this is real and breaks down and cries. Asuka is pissed that Shinji fapped over him and says how disgusting

Fin

>EXPLAIN EVANGELION TO ME
It's mostly exploring human connection and how hard it is to open up to others. The mecha shit is just a cool way to sell that.
>WHAT THE FUCK IS HUMAN INSTRUMENTALITY?
Humanity melting down into primordial goo (LCL) and becoming one in body and mind.
>WHAT THE FUCK ARE THE ANGELS?
There were two ancestors to life that crashlanded on Earth billions of years ago. Adam (the first angel and giant of light that caused the second impact, Kaji brings his embryonic body to Gendo) is the father of the Angels, Lilith (the second angel, the giant humanoid in Terminal Dogma beneath NERV headquarters) the mother of humanity. Humanity as a whole is basically one giant angel. Angels and humans have the same kind of soul (same genetic code), but express it differently. The Angels were gifted the Fruit of Life, which gives them infinite energy and the ability to project their AT field outwards. The AT field is the "light of the soul" and keeps souls distinct from one another (during Instrumentality, these barriers get broken down by EVA Unit 01s/Giant Reis Anti-AT field). Angels are humans that have cast aside human form, their individuality is so strong that they can freely change their form. They are pretty lonely though, so they try to merge with Adam/Lilith.

Also, Shinji's mom's soul is in Unit 01, Rei is a clone of his mom with the soul of Lilith implanted into her, and Kaworu has the soul of Adam.

I will entirely bite and openly admit I am a retard, could you possibly explain the "Abrahamic symbolism"?

why would you want to be princess carried by shinji

I love how humanity’s first thought when seeing Adam is “We should put some armor on that dude.”

the author gave up on making an actual universe so he just made deus ex bullshit and called it art

the message of evangellion is that reifags are wrong and that they should kill themselves

Evangelion is the Ayn Rand novel of anime. I.e. It's seen as a great work of art to 16 year olds and people who have a superficial/poor understanding of literature/society/philosophy in general.

Cute, but why would Asuka be the one crying?

Attached: 9364.jpg (900x631, 122K)

Here, there's only explanation you need.

Attached: master.png (640x480, 441K)

It wasn't armor, it was restraints.

Why wouldn't she?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1920x1080, 135K)

Restraints of giant cool shoulder blades

Yeah, it was supposed to look like a cool robot instead of a gigantic bleeding human-monster hybrid

I wonder what Unit 02 is gonna look like this time around. How much of her head was intact after the last explosion?

Rewatch it. Give attention to the details and then put into words what you’ve seen about Evangelion and what things might mean. What’s important is not what’s the meaning or what’s going on, what’s important is what you extract of the series and the meaning it has to you.
But if you want my perspective, I find Evangelion a masterclass on showing you what actually happens to a regular person in an extreme situation. And what makes it so interesting is that they show this from the outside and the inside. The message? There will always be hope and a reason to live.

the hell is that scene from

No matter what you do you're gonna end up like your parents

Attached: Screenshot (428).png (1417x803, 703K)

its from a deleted scene for rebuild 2.0, Asuka was originally going to be introduced via a train ride and mari piloted unit 2 for introduction and jumped down to meet shinji and gang. Why do you think Asuka felt out of character at that scene.

idk why but 2.0 completely changed during mid-production. they even got rid of Asuka's mind-fuck scene.

Where did Seele get the dead sea scrolls originally from? Lilith's moon? Antarctica?

Shouldn't Gendo appearance at the congratulations screen confirm that he also got instrumentalized?

>vimeo.com/163931684
Also everyone met Kaji; not just shinji.

shinji literally says goodbye to him in the congratulations scene

From the dead sea stupid. Same place the bible came from irl

But wasn't that supposed to be on each of the moons?

fuck off spammer

people suck and it hurts being around them but it's better than the alternative so suck it up and make some meaningful connections already

a message that was utterly fucking lost on its intended audience

>Where did Seele get the dead sea scrolls originally from? Lilith's moon? Antarctica?
From the Dead Sea, like the real-life scrolls. Where the original writers found the instruction manual is not stated.
>Shouldn't Gendo appearance at the congratulations screen confirm that he also got instrumentalized?
alternate endings

That image makes me realize Asuka probably suffered the most out of everyone in the series
And had to go through the pleasant experience of being disemboweled and eaten alive. At least Misato and the NERV staff got quick, not too traumatic deaths by getting shot

Attached: 1550634500062.jpg (1600x1200, 221K)

unironically this
any person can "understand" evangelion, but you will NEVER fully appreciate it unless you read these

>Where did Seele get the dead sea scrolls originally from? Lilith's moon? Antarctica?

The Dead Sea Scrolls were Adam's, they were found in the Dead Sea. How they ended up there is never explained

>Shouldn't Gendo appearance at the congratulations screen confirm that he also got instrumentalized?
Insturmentality is full of false visions and there's no negativity so shinji just saw what he wanted

He says goodbye to Gendo in the scene tho and nobody else.

well yeah
she really needed somebody to lean on but her pride wouldn't let her ask for help
thus her entire shitshow of a relationship with shinji, the guy who's drowning so hard in his own issues he can't see anyone else's problems

it's kinda funny how important it is to have some knowledge of Freud in order to understand a huge amount of fiction, and yet his stuff's been known to be hilariously wrong at best for decades now. but it influenced so much writing that you gotta know his retarded ideas inside and out in order to properly appreciate a lot of things.

If you haven't read the mystical writings of the Ari, the New Evangelion remains a closed book.

Attached: d2b47810f580f746610e0dce71fb7073.jpg (337x339, 38K)

Read Deleuze and you'll get it

You need to read Mein Kampf in the original german to understand

Not probably, definitely.
Her deal with her mom going crazy, mistaking her for a doll, having her dad get with another woman who didn't care for being a mom to her, and walking in on her own mom hanged to death is already worse than most of them - makes Shinji's dead mom experience feel small by comparison.

Then she lived an irregular childhood due to training to be a pilot and her genius and need to be the best leading her to college, probably had zero friends her own age before coming to Tokyo-3.
Then all that training she did her whole life is basically shown to be a waste when this boy does just as well as her with no effort and doesn't even care. And then he does better than her.

Then she gets mindraped, nobody shows her any real concern over what just happened, she can't pilot anymore and nobody such as Misato makes any effort to comfort her as she openly breaks down in a cry for help.

And when she does manage to pull her shit together, despite being on a coma, upon realizing her mom had still loved her, she gets the most brutal and prolonged death in the series. And her mom dies again too, just a bit more than 5 minutes after she had her back.

why did the angel attack start in 2015 and not before/after?

why not? it's not like the angels attacked because they knew nerv was ready, nerv was ready because the angels were going to attack
it was already planned from the dead sea scrolls

this

If the Dead Sea Scrolls are supposed to be a FAR instruction manual as to the functioning of seeds of life, presumably they'd have been found alongside Adam or Lilith in Antarctica or Hakone, so why the fuck are they called the Dead Sea Scrolls?
I know Fuyutsuki says something about Antarctica being "the true Dead Sea" but that seems like flimsy justification

She says something about Not-Rei's original being friendlier, which could mean Actually-Rei or Yui

The dead sea scrolls are real things. I have a copy on my bookshelves. They're literally just old Torah scriptures

Obviously, but that has nothing to do with the usage of the term in Eva
Seems like they just wanted an esoteric name for their alien prophecy bullshit

>Seems like they just wanted an esoteric name for their alien prophecy bullshit
see:

>shinji says goodbye to gendo in the tv ending
Have you even watched it?

The Dead Sea Scrolls in Eva are the same as the Dead Sea Scrolls in real life, just that there were also parts of them that were translations from the FAR instruction manual and hence got covered up by SEELE.

>when the lance is removed from lilith its legs immediately regrow
>but the lance was only put in lilith in episode 15

So what exactly were they doing thousands of miles from either seed? Leaving aside the issue of translating a completely alien language with no context unless they're psychic or something

Ideon with more autistic kids

Like you watched Ideon.

Within the Eva verse the Dead Sea Scrolls refers to the alien instruction manual, SEELE covered up their true meaning.

As for why they're in the dead by 2015 sea who knows

The scrolls were said to be designed to explain what the seeds purpose was to any who could encounter it. FAR probably used something easily translatable or included a key.

NASA did this on the voyager space craft

why do they explain when the angels will attack? did they even do that? i don't remember

Because they do, you're really hung up on the scrolls they're just a deus ex for anno to explain why SEELE knows stuff

What the fuck, Kaji just said he's in love with Shinji at the end of that scene.

Attached: Kaji pls.gif (500x367, 836K)

To be fair some of his ideas were right. Things like introjection are as real as they get, we all experience it while growing up.

NERV excavated Adam's embryo? Maybe. That one makes the most sense to me.

So, are the MP Evas just a more simplified Eva genetic wise or are they something that closely resembles what Adam may have looked like? Their design is really unique so that’s why I wonder.

>Asuka probably suffered the most out of everyone in the series
>And had to go through the pleasant experience of being disemboweled and eaten alive.
Toji went through all of that too, only he had to live with a disability afterwards on top of that.

I don't think so, it's just a different design.

2.0's plot completely changed mid production. Lord knows why.

how did shinji trying to save rei in 2.22 (almost) caused the 3rd impact? i don't get it, i'm dumb

Yeah, but Asuka got mind raped.

Angels = Adam's DNA
Rei = Lilith's soul
Unit 01 = Lilith's DNA

Get it?

Because the movie needed to end in a flashy way. Which was stupid and ruined the iconic moment the anime had.

i get that, but i still don't understand

Anno literally put in the christianity shit because he thought it was a cool Aesthetic you mongoltard it has nothing to do with the actual central themes

It combined necessary elements for an Impact event. Lilith parts (Eva 01, Rei) and Adam parts (Zeruel).

Did no one consider the fact that Gendo didn't show any regard for human life or his own son because it wouldn't have mattered anyway when/if Instrumentality succeeded?

For example why would it matter that Unit 01 was killing Toji in Episode 18 when he would have come back and become reunited with his sister anyway? Obviously the rest of the characters couldn't have known at that point but surely it was known when he was getting "judged" in the end? Not taking the risk of killing Toji would have meant a slimmer chance of Instrumentality.

Attached: __ikari_gendou_neon_genesis_evangelion__88e8a6e4b314f453ba6452058564ea54.jpg (640x1102, 211K)

She got over it.

You need both DNAs plus Adam or Lilith's soul to trigger an impact. Why? Because Adam and Lilith are the original angels and the ones that tasted different fruits, they're the creators.
Take NGE and EoE for instance, if Kaworu (Adam's DNA + Adam's soul) fused with Lilith's crucified body (her DNA) he would've triggered his own version of instrumentality. Then of course Rei (Lilith's DNA), after fused with the Adam embryo that Gendo implanted on his hand (Adam's DNA) went back to Lilith's body (DNA) and triggered her own impact.

What is not to understand here, I don't get it.

This is the thread I was born for.
The answers you seek can be found by watching it again.

>the ones that tasted different fruits, they're the creators.
Stop using the flowery language and metaphors when explaining this stuff you pretentious cunt.
Adam and Lilith did not "taste a different fruit" They were intentionally created with a different set of skills at spreading different types lifeforms. People who created them deliberately made it like that because they didn't want to create a being who would be as powerful as them, so they split their assets between the two. Adam and Lilith are tasked with seeding planets with life, Adam cretes life with no decided form but with unlimited energy which isn't able to gain knowlege. Lilith creates life with a fixed form and limited energy and with ability to gain knowlege.

When Adam and Lilith merge into one their assets combine and they become a being as powerful as their creators. Their Creators didn't want that. Adam and Lilith were NOT supposed to occupy the same planet. Yet this is exactly what happened on Earth. A merged form of Adam and Lilith is able to transform life on a planet in a few possibilities, and this is what happend on Earth.

Since people are spoonfeeding itt.
Why was Shinji so distraught by Kaworu's death? He knew him for like, what? Two days? I het that he likes him and that Kaworu sort of implies actually hè homosex loves Shinji. But Shinji acts like he was forced to kill a life long friend. Not some dude you liked and met two days ago. I still hate this part everytime.

Attached: Eva24DC_Kaworu.jpg (365x273, 13K)

Fuyutsuki literally spells it out to the audience during EoE you moron. The angels, which are Adam's creations, have the fruit of Life and humans, Lilith's creations, have the fruit of knowledge - and when combined they form the Tree of Life, which either Adam or Lilith's soul uses to turn everything alive into Kool-Aid.

Because he was the only "person" to ever tell Shinji he loved him. Shit that won't mean much to you means the world to Shinji.

which Angel is the biggest asshole?

hard mode: not allowed to say Zeruel

(also obviously because Shinji was VERY reluctant to kill someone)

Because Shinji fell in love with him

Attached: Kaworu brings down Shinji's AT field.webm (848x480, 1.58M)

You know, I find it hilarious how people can be this dense.

The show is constantly bringing up stuff like the Porcupine Dilemma and when the solution to said problems shows up you neutron stars get confused.

Attached: 17999289_p0.jpg (480x559, 450K)

I know the terminology moron. That's not the point. What hides behind terminology and flowery language is actually pretty prosaic so if you want to actually explain shit use descriptive and prosaic language. Fuyutsuki uses the exact same pretentious speech to make the expository dialogue appear more "mysterious" and artsy fartsy in the movie. There is no point in using the same mannerisms in here.

>WHAT THE FUCK IS HUMAN INSTRUMENTALITY? WHAT THE FUCK ARE THE ANGELS?
Did you even watch the show? You're told exactly what the Angels are and you get to witness exactly what instrumentality is.

Attached: 1553762225746.jpg (130x130, 8K)

How the fuck not, EVA is filled to the brim with jewish and christian imagery and terminology. For fucks sake the very name of the show calls back to religion.

Oh, jeez, its basically a Biblical metaphor.

If adam and eve (eva) ate the tree of life after the tree of knowledge, then they would really become like Gods.

It’s not his fault his dad designed him to only be able to interact with people through mind rape.

Figure it out.

Oh fuck off you pseud, half-assed explanations aren't explanations at all.

Find out for yourself, google is a very useful tool.

How did Shitflix translate Kaworu's line in EoE "and we are the words I love you"?

>SEELE becomes obsessed with creating the idealized/supreme evolved form of humanity
I still get butthurt about this. their plan to make a supreme evolved being is to...de-evolve everyone back into primordial soup, AKA LCL? that's fucking dumb as shit.

Also, did the or Gendo every try the scientific method at all, testing if any of their theories about what would happen during instrumentality hold water? Like I get they're all crazy and/or a cult, but for fucks sake at least some of them are scientists. TEST YOUR THEORIES BEFORE YOU COMMIT ALL YOUR RESOURCES, YOU DUMB FUCKS.

That wasn't really Seele's plan, but they were ok with it in the end

Because Shinji realized that he loved him, and vice-versa. It was literally a love at first sight kind of deal, I don't know why this was so hard for so many people to understand or accept.

The last several episodes of NGE and EoE start to make a lot more sense once you begin to realize it's a about a teen coming to term with their sexuality and their true selves.

Attached: 2NHqOz6.png (1365x767, 586K)

>Rei is killed by Dr. Akagi's mommy for insulting her

I thought she was killed that first time by Akagi herself? who is Akagi's mother?

Two days of unconditional affection is more than Shonjo has ever received in the entire rest of his life. Yui died so early he can't remember her, Gendo was never close to him, he moved to Tokyo-3 completely alone implying that whoever cared for him before he came there didn't give much of a shit either and he never once mentions them or other people before being called to pilot Unit-01 so I think it's fair to assume he had zero close relations during that part of his life either.

Attached: explain the plot of evangelion.jpg (490x457, 94K)

Attached: 0f7.jpg (508x500, 28K)

holy fucking shit anons, we have an automaton among us

The point is that biblical metaphors are only there as window dressing, they do not serve any deeper purpose. It's just borrowed terminology to describe stuff happening on screen. So if you really want somebody to understand what the fuck is going on then you might skip the convoluted terminology and use as simple language as possible.

You fuck off, pretentious cunt.

>Eventually the angels reawaken, intent to merge with Adam (which they think is being kept under Tokyo)

I never understood why ppl say they think this. doesn't it make more sense to say they are intent to merge with adam, that they can sense is implanted into Gendo, who happens to be under Tokyo most of the time, nearby Lilith?

Because love at first sight DOES NOT EXIST.

He lived with his homeroom teacher before the series

gendo didn't have adam in the first episodes

What's wrong with using biblical metaphors because they're cool, like Anno said? Do you hate fun?

Did the Netflix dub give Asuka's father a German accent like the original dub did even though he's American?

big robots are cool

No u.

Half the world didn't die in 2000 either.

Well it did between Kaworu and Shinji, not sure what happened there.

Even with all that in mind, if Shinji didn't kill him it would mean the end of humanity. I get a little more that it's hard on Shinji now, but i still find it hard to personally care about Kaworu and his death. I always felt that he was just a cheap plot device to make Shinji go trough more trauma. I wish we(the audience) got a little more time seeing Shinji and Kaworu together. If only to make people care about the character itself a bit more.

It's a deliberate obfuscation of straightforward events with the purpose to appear more sophisticated. It's phony.

Oh sure it would have been better for there to be more time for the characters to cement in our minds their closeness, but you could never really appreciate Kaworu in the same way Shinji does unless you were as fucked in the head as Shinji is, and you also can't see it from Kaworu's perspective because he's an ayylmao and we humans probably aren't capable of something like unconditional love. In the end though Shinji does do what's "necessary" and kill him to spare humanity.

It's literally impossible to put yourself in Shinji's position. Angels do not exist. Nerv does not exist. You can't live in or imagine yourself in Evangelion's universe in any meaningful manner.
It looks cool though...

Attached: 1562717566678.jpg (450x338, 29K)

How the fuck do you get all that from the anime and the movie? Was I speedwatching back when I was a kid? Because I sure as fuck don't remember half of the shit here.

Why yes, stuff merging together and making orange juice out of everyone while characters go through psychoanalysis sessions is quite straightforward lol.

What happened there is Shinji, a person on extreme crack withdrawal was offered crack and he went full psycho stalker on the dealer. The point of that arc is to show that despite of what Shinji thinks he may want- the unconditional love and affection, it's not what Shinji actually needs. What Shinji needs is to love himself, accept himself. Not seek validation from others. He's with Kaworu the way Gendo was with Yui, completely unable to live without her, addicted to her love. He constantly needed Yui's love to function and went completely off the rails when she left because he had no love inside of him.

LCL + instrumentality is infinite energy and knowledge with no physical restrictions, literally a perfect lifeform.

You don't, it's extra canonical information dumped by Anno via interviews lmao. In hindsight I think it was deliberate, artificially generated confusion is what contributed to Eva being so extensively talked about.

It also makes Shinji come off as a little bitch compared to Rei and Asuka.
Rei went through being physically invaded by an angel that taunted her from being lonely, and then she died by exploding - and her charred body was intact for Ritsuko to recover from the entry plug remains so she may not have died instantly.
Then Asuka's break down occurred from having her mind fucked with for several long minutes followed by absolutely nobody giving a damn about her, and despite all that she managed to get back on her feet to fight to the death in EoE.

Shinji is reduced to sitting and crying waiting for the JSSDF to kill him because a guy who betrayed him used him for assisted suicide, and the entire time acts like he is the only one with problems.

>ceasing to exist
>perfect
Ok.

> everyone sees someone they loved/were in love with before dying/getting turned into Fanta
> He sees a harem of Rei
So, was he a pedo that was into Rei? Or did he just not have anyone to love so Rei just stayed Rei?

It's backstory from the PS2 video game. While the official line is that it's "just for the game", it fits with the series, was primarily produced by Gainax, and lines up with ideas from the series' production that did not appear in the final series.

It is nontheless a flawed form because all life is bound to the same planet and left vulnerable to cosmic threats. It's also against the very purpose of incarnating on Earth- gaining varied, individual experiences and evolving through them. The LCL creature does not evolve.

>not perfect
Ok, Anno.
The second option. Anno REALLY wanted to give the finger to otaku.

The Reis take on the form of someone that the person feels comforted/loved and at ease with, so they drop the guard on their AT-Field.

Aoba apparently has a nihilistic outlook on life so there was no one's form suitable for Rei to use to lower his AT-Field.
So she had to brute force and reip him.

Attached: 1465364709610.jpg (634x480, 115K)

it's actually the other way around, buddy

You can clearly tell by his reaction that he doesn't want any of that shit, the poor guy just wanted to be left alone.

Attached: [Sephirotic] Evangelion - The End of Evangelion - 26' [MULTI][BD 1080p 8bits 5.1 AAC][84BEB803] (1920x1080, 972K)

he lost his shit when all those Reis appeared, so he probably didn't love anyone and Rei had to force her way into his AT field

they were okay with what they thought was about to happen, but they had no proof (and we still don't ourselves, unless I've missed something) that LCL is anything but inert matter. Seele took so much shit on hearsay and the DSS without confirming anything that my mind boggles at their incompetence.

Same with Gendo. He had no hard evidence that Yui would be attainable post-instrumentality, or that her and his personhood would even exist in a recognizable state once they all got Tang'd. how is he supposed to reunite with her when the very concepts of 'him' and 'her' no longer exist?
And our only evidence of that is the worlds on the DSS, that we just have to take on faith. so Seele and Gendo have to be 100% confident on their translations of an alien text untold years old, and also confident that the aliens would have no reason to lie or obfuscate. They never once were seen testing any of these theories, which is dumb as fuckign hell.

Chadji X Asuka is a great ship and genuine.

You forgot Jung

well there you go. Genuine thanks for the reminder this character existed. I'd completely forgotten.

>It's literally impossible to put yourself in Shinji's position. Angels do not exist. Nerv does not exist. You can't live in or imagine yourself in Evangelion's universe in any meaningful manner.
For that reason the only people I could ever really directly relate to were the side characters lmao. It's a good thing the character writing in EVA is so stellar all across the board.

So in essence not loving anyone means strength and independence? THANKS ANNO

> He just wanted to listen to metal and work on a project involving angels and cool robots
> Gets turned into Orange juice
Poor guy

Is there continuity of consciousness between the Reis or isn't there?
The real question is why they're the only naked ones

Attached: rei3.png (720x1080, 819K)

It's actually a good thing that you didn't relate to any of the main characters. The side characters are much less "extreme" so it means you're not fucked in the head.

Attached: 1562444047120.png (483x177, 11K)

>They never once were seen testing any of these theories, which is dumb as fuckign hell.
Of all the things Eva doesn't explicitly show you, this is the one you latch on to?

> Tang'd
Question that doesn't involve NGE itself but what the FUCK is Tang? I get that it's probably some kind of Orange juice drink, but they don't have that where i live. So that little reference always flies over my head.

>Kaworu has the soul of Adam
seriously? oh my god

you're right. I still don't get how the angels would mistake lilith for adam though. How could they not sense their progenitor, when they apparently could sense their enemy? or to say it another way, how could they not differentiate friend from foe?

Or were they not sensing anything, and just saw a billboard for Tokyo 3 with Lilith on it and thought, yup. that must be daddy let's all go there. HOW did they know where to go at all?

Attached: 62577008_p5.png (642x1800, 868K)

There is. The memories might be hazy but she is able to remember she died and felt things beforehand.
By the time Kaworu shows up she remembers most things regarding Shinji, which is why she picks him over Gendo.

>Is there continuity of consciousness between the Reis or isn't there?
Its kinda vague.
Her soul definitely carries over some feelings from her past selves - otherwise Rei-III wouldn't give a shit about handing instrumentality over to Shinji since she has zero interactions with him after seeing him in the hospital, and Rei-III gets angry seeing Gendo's glasses and breaks them (going off of the angry-half of Rei-1's soul in Eva-00 theory)

Anno’s gigantic middle finger to otaku.

>The side characters are much less "extreme" so it means you're not fucked in the head
In EoE we see that the side characters are all fucked too, Fuyutsuki was never able to get over Yui and is reduced to spending his life helping Gendo, Aoba has never found any form of love, and the other girl is a desperate lesbian who will never have her feelings reciprocated. Less extreme, maybe, but there's way less exposition for each of them. Nobody in NERV besides maybe Kaiji is a functioning human being.

But Otaku love it

It's a powder you mix into water. They sent it on a space shuttle at one point or something. It looks 100% identical to LCL once you mix it.

and that's why Anno is so pissed at Rei
>create anti-escapism product aimed at sad otaku
>otaku eat it up but instead turn it into the top escapism source

Attached: 1448726969767.png (338x583, 163K)

...Which is sort of an example of the message the show wanted to convey, I guess.

Sure, you could be a victim of awful circumstances. But laying down and dying won't make it better.

one more time

Attached: Animerica 2002 sept.jpg (1678x2196, 1.19M)

Sure, that's what happens when you live in a fucked up world. If the Second Impact had never happened Asuka's and Shinji's mothers wouldn't be dead. Rei wouldn't even exist. They're a product of their environment.

for a show that features so much 'science' I think it's a valid criticism. you're in a setting with giant bio-engineered human-alien monsters with huge armor/restraints grafted onto them, cloning is not only achievable, but apparently near fool-proof, supercomputers capable of incredible calculations exist, etc.

this is a high-technology setting, but none of it feels earned. we're told about how smart and capable all these doctors and scientists and Illuminati motherfuckers are, but none of them seem to ever question how uncorroborated any of their assumptions are.

The fragmented soul idea makes sense in light of Kyoko who didn't die to merge with the Eva but went insane

Something aliens something christianity allegory something assimilation.

>Nobody in NERV besides maybe Kaiji is a functioning human being.
We don't see anything directly, but is hinted he had his share of issues too.
He is non-chalant about his own life expectancy, standing in a field watering his plants as Asuka and Rei get wrecked and he could easily be collateral damage, and right when he is about to be killed he sorta just accepts it.

Attached: Animerica 2002 sept - 40.jpg (1648x2195, 1.17M)

...Weren't you the same guy on the Evangelion sub-reddit?

I mean, sure, thats a theory. But its not one with strong evidence supporting it.

As well as Keel Lorenz's body DNA. This is Kaworu in his 80s. You're wlecome.

It would've been kinda funny if those Reis were all Gendos.

Its not confirmed anywhere.
I still think it would be neat if it were Misato's father with DNA Adam took in from 2nd Impact.

How else should you react? Should he freak the fuck out? I think he makes the right choice. He's the only one who's able to accept reality on his own.

Fuck off Asukanigger, no translation for you.

Attached: 1367966863198.jpg (500x341, 36K)

How exactly did Kaworu think returning to Adam would destroy humanity before he realised it was Lilith? Like, only contact between Adam and Lilith based lifeforms is supposed to cause an impact right

important part

Attached: Animerica 2002 sept - 44.jpg (1635x2187, 1.56M)

>The real question is why they're the only naked ones
Maybe Rei just wanted the one person who could still see her without any illusions see her naked.
Merging with Lilith could have made her a crazy exobitionist, I mean she is literally showing her country size tits off to the entire planet as she rises up.

second impact was adam's and only adam's doing so no you fucking retard

Because it's literally all bullshit window dressing, it's shallow because it is absolutely 100% irrelevant to the show

TWF Toji got tanged by Rei appearing to him as his sister in a healthy form asking him to take her hand so they can leave the hospital.

congratulations

Attached: Animerica 2002 sept - 45.jpg (1637x2175, 1.24M)

Remerging with Adam would let him complete 2nd Impact - terraforming the planet and wiping out Lilith based life so that he can make more Adam based life.

it was set off by adam because he doesn't want lilith's children fucking with his planet
either 'original' angel can wipe out the opposing lifeforms through an impact but it takes the forbidden union of them to make instrumentality

Wasn't it because Adam awakened and got angry? When they pulled the spear out.

she's pretending to be pregnant as a joke and shinji is super excited/jappy about it so she's nervous about revealing the truth

All Reis never cared about nudity.
Remember when Shinji first entered Reis room while she was showering? No reaction whatsoever.

In fact, shes probably only wearing clothes because every other human would be freaked out by a naked girl walking around the place.

It took them until episode 15 to bother to go and collect it
Because's he's Ryoji motherfucking Kaji

I don't really use Reddit. Too much fuss. And i sorta knew it was the second option but it was just kinda funny to me that he saw a small army of completely makes Reis. Not just one Rei. But a bunch of them. All naked.

lol, decent pasta over here. maybe even fresh.

Then she'd be literally fighting her father. As if this show can't get any weirder with the screwed up relationship dynamics.

Thank you, now makes more sense.
It was my understanding that each moon carried: 1x Adam (or Lilith), 1x Lance of longinus, 1x Dead sea scroll.
Upon impact of each moon, only Lilith's lance was destroyed, so Adam's one activated, suppressing him and the angels, but couldn't understand each of the scrolls fate.

Why the fuck does he have a Cyclops visor anyway? Just random character design?

Why stab Lilith with the Lance though?

Yes, not specific memories but emotional growth carries over between whichever vessel the soul is residing in. However it can only go around to one at a time, you couldn't for example create 100 Reis and have them all be the "true" one, only a single vessel plays host at any one time. It's why Rei-Q is blank and starting over from an even blanker slate than original NGE Rei, the Rei from NGE+1.0 and 2.0 is still trapped in Unit 01's entry plug so when Gendo grew yet another Rei the body is left without a previous consciousness to carry over old instincts and so because she's got nobody and nothing meaningful to interact with she stays completely blank during 3.0

One of the mass produced EVAS without a head.

Reposting from other thread because this one is more active.

Real question here.

What is the reason some people think Rei isn't at least on some front a representation of escapism. I'm not going to repeat ever argument in this thread and I'd like to think I understand her character quite well. She is very one note and idealized for the protagonist that she basically feels like clay you can mold into whatever shape you want (as long as you are the protagonist whom she orbits). The important word here being 'for the protagonist', aka the self-insert for the people Anno was trying to talk to.

Rei is LITERALLY a god and the mother of all humans. A close to perfect being. She is also a messenger in Instrumentality, leading humans into the escapist orgy that it is by breaking down their AT Fields and bringing them into it. Even if you disagree with people about her personality and characterization, or lack thereof depending on which side of the fence you sit on, she is a symbol that is present in so many instances regarding Instrumentality that you cannot ignore it.

On top of this, having Lillith's soul, she is basically the 'mother' of all mankind, hence the dialogue for why she pilots the Eva being 'the bond she shares with all mankind.' At that point wouldn't Rei basically symbolize a return to womb or return to mother and never being able to leave adolescence behind as at the first sign of pain or fear you run to back to your mother (Rei) for compassion and acceptance?

I'm kind of a brainlet so I'm open to being called out on dumb shit.

Attached: 1562595534356.png (1000x950, 1.08M)

If that is the case, Anno should only be pissed at himself for being awful at getting his points across.
None of the characters are representative of escapism. A lot of them do escapist things some of the time to cope with the batshit crazy environment they are in, and it is pretty reasonable for them to do that all considering. But the characters are all meant to be people and shouldn't never be chalked up as "it is bad if you like or sympathize with them"

Wouldn't be possible thanks to Japanese censorship at the time and all of that.
It's already a miracle that Kaworu managed to bypass the censorship bullshit in just one episode. I'm Still amazed that Anno somehow managed to get away with it.
>What Shinji needs is to love himself, accept himself. Not seek validation from others.
Except Kaworu represents just that. Shinji didn't really start questioning himself until he was forced to kill Kaworu himself, which was the final straw that sent him into a downward spiral of true self-discovery.

Keep in mind that throughout the series, Shinji's constantly trying impose himself as someone he really isn't. And it never ends up working for him in the long run, or for those around him.
Every time he engages in masculine bravado, it backfires immensely, only bringing more inner pain to him or those around him.
His hobbies, interests, mannerisms and overall demeanor are far more effeminate than they are masculine. He's the one happily doing all of the cooking and cleaning in the Katsuragi household. Not Asuka, not Misato, just him.
And throughout the entire series, the audience is led to believe that Shinji will end up falling for either Asuka or Rei, only to get duped once Kaworu shows up.
Meanwhile Shinji grows increasingly distant with his so-called female love interests and colleagues as things turn from grim to worse, his views on women in general becoming further driven by disdain, rejection and outright objectification. Because he was still latching onto this false sense of self that he's imposed on himself, and on others.
Shinji feared women because they remind him too much of himself. The inner self that others mocked him for. The inner self that he inwardly hated, ignored and rejected for so many years.

Hell, Shinji was originally planned to be a cute tomboyish girl until Anno randomly decided to change the gender all because he was tired of doing standard female protagonists.

Attached: vlcsnap-error547.png (1920x1080, 1.95M)

This is a series where people pilot mecha containing their mothers' souls from a cockpit full of cuntjuice, I don't think the womb analogy is tremendously far-fetched

>cuntjuice
Disgusting but true.

It would be kinda funny to see such a version of Aoba and be in that Aoba's head.

Imagine watching him with, his pants implied to be down, as he bites his lip and leans back. Then we get a day-dream sequence of him swimming among, and laying down with, an infinite amount of naked Reis in his private harem or when Commander Ikari isn't looking?

Rebuild Rei loves Shinji's music player - his main tool for escaping reality - for good reasons. When Shinji saves his waifu she is holding his music player for good reasons and when 3.33 ends the music player is abandoned by Shinji for good reasons.

Now I don't have anything against Rei but denying that Anno made her the escapist part of his story is just bullshit.

Kaworu was the final obstacle for Shinji to achieve self realization. He's not an ideal boyfriend, he's a coddling escape into self desctucrive habits. That's why he dies every time. Relationship with Kawou is the true escapism, no compains, no expectations, no pain, only love. This is not what Anno wants Shinji to have, Anno wants Shinji to have a real relatinoship that has the potential to hurt, that's why he sets him up with Asuka every time. She's human and real, Kaworu is not.
.

They kept it as I love you.
The netflix sub is really inconsistent.

Lol, each time Shinji decides to be all Macho and super hero like, the Angels put him flat on his behind.

you can do better?

LOL this thread is /x/ tier. Evangelion story is non existent. The author is a dumb jap hack he picked the name solely because it sounded cool.

I don't remember it exactly, but seems like Seele already knew they had ~15 years from 2nd impact.
They recruited Fuyutsuki, Yui, Gendo, created Gehirn/Nerv, designed Tokyo-3 for that purpose - fend off the angels and trigger instrumentality.

Lilith was somehow restrained when they built Eva-01 from her lower body. With the lance, she was further suppressed, but good point, timing/progress don't fully add.

IIRC, before the MPE, previous Evas were mostly prototypes, including 02, which is a production model, but still an early version. After they mastered that and the dummy plug system (using Kaworu's copies), the MPE were released to ensure 3rd impact.

Attached: 1543361300508.jpg (800x777, 178K)

nah, this was posted a few times.

What would have been funny is for Rei to turn into a Guitar so Aoba could do one last sick shred.

Attached: hqdefault (3).jpg (480x360, 20K)

Plus she's a god-like quantum entity at the end, clothing is something you use to shield yourself from an environment that hurts you or to hide the imperfections of your form that you fear showing others, or to signal things socially to others because it's important to do so. None of that is relevant to a deity-like entity which isn't even bound to one time or place, which has no need to value the opinion of other minds or any need to protect itself from danger.

I think it's less likely that Rei herself represents escapism, and that it's more along the lines of
increasingly desperate people turning towards others and slowly objectifying them as a form of escapism.
Because Rei herself is far from a mindless tool, her outright rejection of Gendo and her statement "I am not a doll" is proof of that.

Anno won't allow you to love anything besides people. Stop having hobbies, you dumb otaku. Guitars are just objects but humans have ******SOULS******.

what does the dialogue say?

Attached: 1561220339209.jpg (698x480, 86K)

The statue Kaworu sits on in his episode.

>I'm Still amazed that Anno somehow managed to get away with it.
Anno literally had episode 24 bicycled to the TV studio minutes before it was supposed to air just so it wouldn't be censored. He wanted his homo episode on live TV that much.

Attached: groundworks.png (1002x712, 1.04M)

Attached: OK_thumb.jpg (600x600, 32K)

I find your argument unconvincing because:
>no compains, no expectations, no pain, only love
Is wrong.

In Kaworu's episode he complains that Shinji should be more aware of his own position, he sets expectations that Shinji should stop running away from human contact, and should live for the future, and he brings him pain by betraying him and forcing him to kill him.

He literally tells Shinji to improve upon himself, he says the same to Gendo in the movie, that's not escapism.

Attached: Kaworu to Gendo.png (853x480, 402K)

I still don't understand what the point was in showing Shinji with boobs

Attached: shinji boobs.png (1280x660, 235K)

Kaworu alone (with Lilith's body) wouldn't trigger instrumentality. He said that after realizing it wasn't Adam's body and i'm unsure if he "could" kill all Lilin lifeforms after that fusion, because he also said that the Lilin should inherit the earth, rejecting - at first - Seele's plans, and requests Shinji to kill him. But instrumentality was expected to happen anyway.

So I get that the human instrumentality project is basically to make everyone become Tang through Third Impact and that's what Seele wants.
What I don't understand is why Seele created Nerv to do the contrary to that. Does the Tang shit only happens if the Third Impact occurs after killing all the Angels?

>Ayanami Rei is the vision of a pure character in the original Neon Genesis Evangelion - she is a 14-year-old virgin who in turn plays the role of both mother and daughter for various characters. She is also a clone and carries the soul of an angel, a non-human entity separate from reality and so a form of "pure fantasy".
>Despite her myriad persona , it is notable that Ayanami Rei does not play the role of a lover or wife. The original does not provide desires that can be consummated. However, in fan re-articulations made in pursuit of moe she is a target for mating and marriage, or the access is increased to the maximum. It is precisely because these ranges in the moe spectrum were not explored in the original narrative that they are exposed as virtual possibilities of the fantasy form of the character. Importantly, Ayanami can be both and entity to be nurtured and one that is highly sexualized at the same time.
Shindo

>Moe is strongly felt among "third generation otaku" or japanese born in the 1980s who watched Neon Genesis Evangelion in middle school and grew up amid a wealth of anime, manga, games and character merchandise following the seminal anime series.
Toshio Okada

>Ayanami Rei helps to overcome the otaku viewer's supposed anxiety over the sense of loss experienced in successful symbolic integration.
Christopher Howard

And don't get me started on what Azuma said about her.

Shinji is trans

>And don't get me started on what Azuma said about her.
You can't just say something like that and leave people hanging

NERV serves as a front. They ostensibly exist to protect humanity from Angels but truly exist so SEELE can try to turn itself into a Space Kaiju.

that's none of your business asukafag

Actual answer that nobody wants to hear; every character is an aspect of Anno himself, every character is a self-insert for Anno. Rei and Asuka are just Nadia split into two people

Yes I can. In fact I can tell you to fuck off and go read his book if you wish to understand why Rei ended up so popular and why Anno is destroying her in the Rebuilds.
upress.umn.edu/Books/A/azuma_otaku.html
Get to it.

unless you can prove you can translate the language; your point is mute

>Does the Tang shit only happens if the Third Impact occurs after killing all the Angels?
Yes, they needed to kill all Angels before starting 3rd Impact, and NERV was created to kill them.
Its not really thoroughly explained why the Angels would interfere, it could be that the angels would become a part of instrumentality and fuck things up, or that the Angels would not be tanged and free to obliterate all the human tang rendering instrumentality dead.

Either way, something about the Angels was preventing Gendo from simply dragging Rei down to Lilith's body and getting ready to do it as soon as he had Adam at the end of episode 8.

cool

What do angels think? Are they sentient?

Lilith was fine unsupressed for thousands of years

They're probably controlled by Adam or some shit. Humans have the fruit of knowledge while Angels lack that.

youtu.be/usfiAsWR4qU
This on repeat

Adam, Lilith and Armisael are.

Out of all 3 Kaworus, who do you think would win a fight between them.

Adam's body is in a state and its soul is in Kaworu, I don't think it's in much of a position to be controlling anything

Karl, no mercy

XD Oh damn, that would destroy my sides.

>Anno wants Shinji to have a real relatinonship that has the potential to hurt, that's why he sets him up with Asuka every time.
Anno outright stated that hew views EoE as a bad ending btw.

Well yeah, the world's fucking wrecked and Japan was probably annihilated when the Black Moon emerged

Shinji's fear of being the biggest disappointment he can be to his father... a gay faggot.

The fruit of knowledge gives humans free will in the Bible. It would make sense.

> XD

>Muh depression

It's more specifically the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, it provides the capacity to defy Yahweh
Based snek

Cool horseshit bro.

what have I done.

Exactly, the angels wouldn't be able to defy Adam so in a sense they're being controlled.
>Based snek
Hell yeah

cept it wouldn't really allow for that capacity. The immortality of the subject didn't stop Yahweh before.

Angels have the Fruit of Life, which I think literally refers to the S2 engines, aka perpetual energy organs all Angels have.

They, at the very least, have a will to live. Like when Armisael bubbles up on Shinji's arm and begs not to die.

This was literally my experience.

Did Sachiel an hero in the original series too? I don't remember

I'm so sorry, user.

>They, at the very least, have a will to live
No they fucking don't. See: Kaworu
I don't remember the scene with Armisael but it doesn't mean they have a will to live, just a will to reunite with Adam.

Attached: 33562976_p0.jpg (500x3214, 385K)

Who killed Misato?

Kaworu does have a will to live, his sacrifice would be meaningless otherwise

Attached: 33562976_p1.jpg (500x1990, 243K)

I dunno man Karl is ruthless but his takes too many risks. One of the others could get him with a knife from behind.

I don't see why they wouldn't be sentient when the big plot twist going for them is the revelation that humans and angels are essentially the same stuff after all.

Personally, I always thought that they seem to possess an ever greater sense of self awareness than humans.

Attached: 33562976_p2_master1200.jpg (171x1200, 155K)

Misato literally says something right after that only those that have a will to live should. I should go back and watch the episode again but he has no problem sacrificing himself when he realizes humanity is a good race.

Misato

Attached: 29s0x5fmkuy11.jpg (703x465, 101K)

Original Kaworu would sit and have a moral dilemma while Rebuild Kaworu would just be like "kiling is wrong uwu"
>big plot twist
Wasn't that in like episode 7

Attached: right here.jpg (960x720, 555K)

What Misato says has no bearing on Kaworu's intentions

Yeah but it was only strongly implied.
The whole revelation about humans being angels and the offspring of Lilith didn't come until waaay later in the show.

huurrr survival of the fittest
*dies*
Stupid bitch.

This is not how you address suicidal tendencies.

No, wait, it was episode 5
I misremembered it as being after Ramiel

It's Anno mocking Japan's outlook on those with suicidal tendencies.

Kaworu has no problem dying though.
Not saying she's right but she says it for a reason.

No problem dying if it means humanity will live

Misato goes full retard in this scene and the start of EoE with regards to Shinji's mental state.

>I know, I'll give him a boner, that'll motivate him

What she's saying is that humans have an inate will to live. Angels don't. Once Kaworu realizes that he would rather let humanity live than reunite with Adam he doesn't mind dying *AT ALL*. He begs for it in fact.
Don't remember the details honestly. Sorry if I'm wrong.

That's called a will to live being superseded

Thanks user.

It got superseded really easily then. Angels have a will to reunite with Adam, not live. With that will gone there's no reason for him to live anymore.

So does this mean if SEELE's original plan had gone off perfectly, giant Rei wouldn't have died and would have lived on forever?

I'm dumb.

>no reason for him to live anymore
To bone wimpy twinks

The Adam-Lilith hybrid is conceptually a perfect lifeform on par with its creators

Too smart. I guess you gotta kill me

I can't wait for the Saint Seiya Heebflix show to start, so we get a bunch of
>I'm 30 years late to the party, explain anime to me?

When Kaworu got necked, where did his soul go? Is he going to be reincarnated as a human? Where did Rei's soul go when Gian Rei died?

Both Adam and Lilith are dead and gone. Humanity became a god and in the process killed God.

I was referring more to angrily yelling at a depressed kid to go fight and kill people because she doesn't want to die and she won't forgive him if he doesn't.
Making out with him is also fucked up, but at least it garnered slightly better results - though only because her speech before it at least gave him some level of motivation.

Manga made it more straight forward since that was just "go save Asuka or she gonna fucking die" and that did the trick.

>Lilith
>dead and gone
LOL

Attached: eoe.jpg (1920x1080, 172K)

Didn’t the Rebuilds imply Kawrou actually has a limited amount of lives and transfers into a new body when he dies?

That Rei shows up at the beginning too. It's probably what's left of her in the last moment.
I don't really pay attention to the Rebuilds. They're a different universe anyway.

a 10 year boy has to make a choice between hivemind humanity or freedom of choice
>like the ending to the first Matrix

it’s really simple.

reject rei and accept asuka

asuka represents individuality and choice

rei represents mom

shinji has to accept the future and go through the pain of leaving behind his parents, particularly his mother/rei who is also his mom

shinji effectively watches the entire world get btfo’d and turned goop and is left with his soulmate, asuka.

the whole process is obviously very traumatic for shinji

another big theme is shinji stepping out of his fathers shadow and finally becoming his own

...i tried

But doesn't that bubbly Angel that takes over Shinji's arm beg for it's own life?

Plus, Rei seems to have an actual conversation with it while she's taken over, so I think Angels definitely do have a will to live.

She's a ghost now.

If it's the same as the one we see on episode one then calling it a leftover is retarded. Lilith is overlooking her retarded children inside instrumentality and apparently, those outside as well.

Don't forget this classic:
>Anno: Everyone understands that it’s a fiction, but precisely because it’s a fiction you have a pure feeling, you fall for the character to an even greater extent. You assume that an anime character will not betray you. Iku-chan (Kunihiko Ikuhara) said to me, “in the last episode, please have Rei Ayanami get married and become pregnant. Just please betray the Ayanami fans. The Rei Ayanami they are thinking of is not real. The real Rei Ayanami gets married, and her belly…”, He told me something like, “please, make them realize that, If she were real, she would get married, become pregnant, have a child, and grow older.” I was thinking, “we don’t have to go that far…”

Attached: iku.jpg (400x600, 31K)

What was this doujin called again?

So in EoE, can someone fucking explain to me why Unit 01 waits forever to grab Shinji during the part when Asuka is fighting the EVA army?

>tits
if that "statue" was supposedly Kaworu previous body: does that mean he was a she?

Typical reifags LMAO

Everyone be hatin' on best girl n shit.

As someone who just experienced NGE for the first time recently, is there a source for more Anno quotes like this?

Yui wanted the mass productions evas to finish Asuka off so that she could finally begin instrumentality with her son at the helm of it all.

Seeds/FAR are technically hermaphroditic/androgynous, so sure. It doesn't really matter all that much.

Yui is a cunt who doesn't like Asuka because she's terrible to her baby boy.

Yui hates Asuka and thinks she's terrible for Shinji
Yui loves Kaworu and thinks he's great for Shinji, that's why she lets him spearfuck her and her son.

Attached: vag core.png (712x474, 441K)

Damn Abe'd before Abe, they shoudl've went with this

>t.

Attached: Anno.jpg (1067x1765, 1.3M)

It needs to live in order to reunite with Adam.
But she disappears at the end.

Yui has a giant ego, she would want Shinji to fuck Rei because in her eyes only a clone of herself is good enough for her boy.

Right. But couldn't you say the same of a lot of human characters on the show? I.e. Gendo and SEELE's driving purpose was Instrumentality, they didn't give a shit about anything else.

HOW DO WE REACH THESE KIDS?!

Attached: D9vD7lJXYAAG_i8.jpg (1078x792, 121K)

It shouldn't be a surprise: Selee explicitly tells Kaworu this in redone episode 24':

SEELE 01:
But 'our' hopes are materializing...

SEELE:
In Lilith, progenitor of humanity - the false successors from the Black Moon...

SEELE:
And in Adam, progenitor of Angels - the true successors from the lost White Moon.

SEELE:
And whose salvaged soul resides only within you...

SEELE 01:
But whose revived body is already inside Ikari.

Attached: 7e0f0471153f3c843cf922aa39655580.jpg (787x1260, 163K)

>But whose revived body is already inside Ikari.
Okay, so the Director's Cut adds this line, but then Kaworu is somehow still confused to not find Adam in Terminal Dogma?

Then why does Shinji get spearfucked by Kaworu instead of Rei?

Attached: 543y-f54890ed89.png (800x567, 534K)

Yui is a very smart woman.

Reminder Anno sees EoE as a bad end.

>Hayashibara: So there will be two episode 25s.
>Anno: Right, it will be a multi-ending.
>Hayashibara: So, a dual... ah, a multi-ending. After episode 24 the endings will diverge.
>Anno: Right.
>Hayashibara: There will be two of them.
>Anno: There will be two of them.
>Hayashibara: Ah, two endings.
>Anno: Yes.
>Hayashibara: In terms of gaming - is it called a simulation game? What do you call it? The ending for that [particular] self changes as you go on [through the game].
>Anno: Right, a multi-ending [game].
>Hayashibara: You took this road so you went here. You took this road so you went here. The ending changes. That's how it goes.
>Anno: Um. Evangelion is my live performance. Since I create it with this sense of it being live, what I'm thinking now, what I'm feeling now, my current mood, all this gets transferred onto film - that was the initial theme, or the theme I had in my mind.
>Hayashibara: Right.

>Anno: Thinking back over it, I feel like it was an ending where I intended to push forward but ended up being drawn into this feeling of blockage.
>For me, personally, [the ending] wasn't very happy. In hindsight.

The thing Anno is trying to say here is that humans have an inherent will to live and that you shouldn't take your own life just because it's hard. Kaworu had no problem taking his own life because he's not human but you (THE DIRTY DEPRESSED OTAKU VIEWER) are.

That's what Shinji wanted in that moment, not Yui.
Yui is probably disappointed Shinji only crushed Kaworu with her hand, she would want to bite his head off in animistic fury.

Because Shinji is a raging faggot

Attached: this is some gay ass shit.jpg (800x2073, 649K)

Because Kaworu would comfort him the most and luckily Lilith had Adam in her system to do it.

Yui is a fujo, which overpowered her senses for a moment.

Yui wants Shinji to stay straight, that's why she bombarded him images of Rei, Asuka, and Misato wanting to fuck him while he was tanged in 01.
(actually I don't know why that happened, what was really happening in that episode?)

Attached: 1471663818746.gif (384x288, 1.51M)

Yes. As far as I know at this point it's widely considered a plothole they introduced.

He goes to terminal dogma and senses a large presence there, he might just assume that's where Gendo is.
It possibly being Lilith wasn't even on his radar.

It's something only japanese people get to understand

Kaworu is just retarded.

That was really disturbing, yeah. I have no idea why she'd show him that either.

Returned to Adam's body probably given he appears during Third Impact

That stuff happened during instrumentality and Yui has no power over it.
This shit was Lilith/Rei's doing.

She made Asuka look kinda ugly in this scene though, perhaps she was trying to turn him gay

Attached: asuka.png (1920x1080, 2.28M)

Shinji needs to be broken in order to kick off Third Impact

its because freud had alot of interesting ideas, even if they arent all scientifically sound

literally biblical science fiction
Know some of the bible

You know how there's Adam and Eve for the origin of humans? Well what if that had extra alien/otherwordly implications, that's Evangelion. Anno really liked the idea of having biblical themes in the show, so he made a story full of it. There are Angels, which are aliens that are not made of typical matter but bare genetic resemblance to humans, but obviously they look alien, so wtf? Well, humans have original sin, from eating from the tree of knowledge. What if there were beings that didn't eat from the tree of knowledge? Thats the aliums, from the tree of life, sharing some sort of origin with humans. I dont really remember where Eve fits in, because Evangelion takes some pages from Judaism and leans on Lillith, who was the mother of demons, but in Evangelion, is what human life is based off of. Maybe that was on purpose, who knows.

So the aliums are attacking what do they do. Well some Illuminati folks know all the secret knowledge from the Dead Sea Scrolls, which are super secret OLDER texts that predate even the Bible, so you KNOW thats spicy. They are orchestrating the big Human Instrumentality Project because now they know from the texts and aliums that God is real and they can now engineer themselves and play God themselves. So they make Evas, the big robots, but with a big twist! Theyre robot with a humanlike body inside wtf. So like Eve was made from Adam, Eva was made from Adam, because the illuminati found the actual Adam and are using cells from it to create a God in Man's image. super deep, dont think about how they used Adam if Angels arent made of typical matter, the dna is similar and its there thats all

welp, time to watch the director's cut again then

That was Leliel getting in his head trying to make contact

Attached: I'll take it .jpg (480x604, 97K)

What exactly was Kaworu's purpose? I never understood his motivations regarding SEELE and stuff.

saigo no shisha

He doesn't look like Keel Lorenz, but Fuyutsuki on the other hand.. and he even said "father" when saw Gendo and Fuyutsuki went to the moon base.

Seems like the top Seele has to have a visor. That's why Gendo has one in 3.0

Kaworu's formed body - looks like an Adam.

I just realized that the Kawor from these images in that scene in EoE Is in the same pose and position as Asuka, Rei and Misato from those 'do you want to become one with me?' mental images from the previous episodes as seen in

kaworu represents and idealistic version of shinji

he’s everything shinji wants to be

if shinji imagined himself without flaws he’d see kaworu

Rei seemed a bit derpy too

Attached: F3W6n5K.jpg (960x720, 57K)

Adam's body is dead. That was just a ghost.

>Leliel getting into Shinji's head and trashing him for being pathetic and always running away
>Leliel trying to get Shinji to understand his father for some reason
What the hell was shadow-boi even doing?

Attached: leliel.jpg (1280x720, 773K)

Just because it's justified to him doesn't stop it from being wrong. Besides, instrumentality was wrong in the first place

I want Rei to show me this feeling.

Attached: 1484445607333.jpg (379x417, 46K)

Follow Abe's plan or the Angels win, you fucking incel!

>t. Anno

What happen with the autist that write this shit?

>What exactly was Kaworu's purpose?
IMPACT

Brilliant

Technically, none of them. There hard coded to be as they were.

But really aramasiel, he really went out of his way to talk shit while killing rei.

Attached: Armisael_helix.png (1035x399, 464K)

Everyone seemed to be a fan of it except Shinji (and Asuka since she comes back). Rei wouldn't have started it if she didn't want to. I'm just saying he's not really a bad guy.

This wasn't instrumentality or Leliel, these scenes happen when Shinji is tanged for 1 month after fighting Zeruel.

technically he/it didn't kill shit but he did talk shit to his own aunt

I watched it a long time ago, dumbly, without ever thinking about it too much and I never talked to anyone about it, but my shallow understanding was that it was about the ever-long struggle between the human desire to be close to others and the fear of the painful, emotional side effects that people become prey to by letting others get too close to them. Piloting the EVAs is like a child clinging to their mother, unable to grow up and move on with their lives. The Human Instrumentality Project is the goal of NERV and what happens at the end of the anime where everyone explodes into orange goo. The point of the project is to solve the dilemma represented above: with everyone melted into a single, massive consciousness - a hivemind of uniform regularity - there is no more fear and anxiety of letting others get to close, because we are all one, indistinguishable and equal. This is akin to the collectivist utopianism voiced by counter-enlightenment thinkers over the years as a potential solution to the suffering caused by inequality. Shinji and Asuka survive the event by holding onto themselves and rejecting "the easy way out." They choose to continue living on as what may be emotionally crippled human beings and maintain their individuality. This may simply be a kind of selfishness, but perhaps that's just how humans were meant to be, and if they want to truly get close to others, as all humans do, then they have to suck it up and get over their baggage the old-fashioned way.

I never understood any of the Christian imagery or what exactly the angels were. It all seemed like typical Japanese storytelling where they just throw in a bunch of cool shit and maybe it'll make sense if you reread it line by line and take notes, but I don't think you need to understand what's literally happening because I don't think that part was meant to be important.

I didn't even realize Kaworu or the mist were angels until someone said it in a video about mass immigration.

>Lilith had Adam in her system to do it.
This was something I noticed but just to confirm, this is possible because Shinji killed him and he fell into the LCL pool, right?

Also I took the Kaworu love thing to be saying something about how love can come from any relationship, heterosexual or otherwise. Kaworu himself is probably the biggest plot device character in the show. He's not developed at all, probably my biggest complaint with the show. There's no time to build up an actual love between the two. It makes it feel kinda manipulative and makes Shinji seem absolutely despserate. Might be the point, but still

Why is Zeruel an asshole?
He fought fair and square, and even let Asuka and Rei both live after they were defeated. He is actually the most honorable if anything.

I think Rei started Instrumentality because she personally wanted to die.

Plus, Gendo didn't intend to even give people the choice of whether to stay in Instrumentality or not.

When it comes to the angels, it seems like they're instinctually meant to communicate and connect to each other through what we consider to be "mind rape."
And humans can't handle it or process any of it in a remotely helpful or positive light without their fragile egos shattering in the process, because they truly can't connect with others on a fundamentally instinctual, soul-baring level like they can.
Meanwhile, they angels can't seemingly grasp the concept of human language since they have no need for it, they're not fundamentally designed to have eternal ego barriers like humans are.
Or at least that's what I got out of all of the attempted communications from the angels.

Attached: 1380940891919.jpg (640x480, 47K)

Kaworu wanted to reunite with Adam
Kaworu met Shinji and realized humanity is actually pretty cool and they should live.
The end.

Attached: 410_52876985_p1.jpg (500x600, 60K)

>Gendo didn't intend to even give people the choice of whether to stay in Instrumentality or not
SEELE would have started it anyway. They're MASSIVELY powerful. He would rather it happened on his terms.

so aliums are attacking, waifus are crying, and robots are pewpewing
Then theres Shinji, Shinji has no idea whats going on amd thats how you are watching the show. Shinji freaks out, cries, runs away, and has a lot of issues, but he has his two waifus, Rei and Asuka. Asuka is queen tsundere, Rei is queen emotionless nerd. Rei is a favorite of Shinjis father and looms eerily familiar to Shinjis mom. I wonder if this comes up later
So lots of things happen and aliums attack, but they always seem to attack the same place. Thats because the aliums like ET want to phone home, and meet their mother. Turns out that NERV, the base where all the Evas are, has the actual Lillith in the basement, which hasits face covered for whatever reason. Shinji lost his mother. Rei looks like Shinjis mother. Asuka has mother issues. This is where Freud is mentioned and people write essays. Mother mother mother.
If they love their mothers so much why dont they marry th-
Enter End of Evangelion
Turns out Shinjis dad is big brained and has been playing 4D chess to control his OWN Human Instrumentality Project
Because remember, they have secret texts and science, so they basically are as smart as God. Shinji is super scared, hates everyone, hates his dad, and is too scared to save Asuka, who he might might not love, I wonder if this comes up later
So Gendo, Shinjis Dad, had the biggest big brain and won the 4D chess, and Rei,who is really a science experiment that is based on Lillith, is the trigger to start the Human Instrumentality project. So Gendo gets Adam, shoves it right up Rei's womb, because mothers, but Rei takes it and takes control, and starts TUMBLING DOWN TUMBLING DOWN TUMBLING DOOOOOWWWNNNNNNNN
which is one of the most memorable anime scenes and starts the apocalypse, literally and/or metaphorically
so everyone has been melted/died/raptured/saved/etc, now Rei asks Shinji what he wants, because she might might not love him, and Shinji wants to everyone to reboot

>Asuka is pissed that Shinji fapped over him and says how disgusting
Comedy of the century.
BRAVO, ANNO! BRAVO!!

Yeah, I think that was definitely intentional.
Especially since in that scene Kaworu and Shinji 'become one' in a sense.

Attached: s2works.jpg (1080x810, 53K)

That's a good point.

But still, Gendo is portrayed as pretty manipulative in the show. No one really has a positive relationship with him, except Rei/Yui, who ultimately betray him.

In trying to achieve Instrumentality, Gendo ironically ends up being one of the most isolating, ego-driven character.

>don't kill yourself
I don't remember Eva ever tackling suicide.

>because she personally wanted to die.
Correct.
Rei wants to but can't die. Asuka can but doesn't want to.

He's manipulative because he wants to ensure Instrumentality happens at ALL COSTS. It doesn't matter that he becomes one of the most isolating ego-driven characters because once Instrumentality comes he'll be complemented by everyone else anyway!

It doesn't explicitly deal with suicide, but most of the show is centered around the will to live, what it means to be alive, or if human life is even worthwhile.

Return to the womb of the Mother is necessary as part of Joseph Campbell's monomyth structure; part of the enduring appeal of Eva is how it hews to these archetypal forms. See Graves' White Goddess for his thesis on how all great art invokes the Muse as the Great Mother.

Conversely, Kyoko seems to approve of Shinji, she even let him sync with her in episode 8.

Attached: 39900423.jpg (1200x857, 610K)

Anything Shinji saw relative to Gendo was due to Yui. Remember, he was absorbed into the Eva once his life support ran out; a final move to preserve him by Yui, and what others have concepted to be an early test for Instrumentality.

You could argue the sexual desire things were a mix of his own emotions during it, but it also goes to serve as an escape shown to him that he rejects to instead reform and return to reality. Just like in EoE.

She also approves of Kaworu and let him control her in ep 24.
Kyoko is a shotacon.

>Rei suicide-bombs an angel, fails
>Rei self destructs to beat an angel, succeeds
>Rei straight up says "I want to die" in ep. 25
>Asuka finally admitting that she hates herself in ep. 22'
>Asuka attempting suicide in ep. 24
>Shinji with wet hair at the start of EoE indicating he just tried to drown himself since he can't swim as told in ep. 10 (which is why him swimming at the end is important symbolically)
>everything about third impact

I agree with a lot of that comment but the

>Rei is ego. Asuka is superego.

I'm not very fluent in Freud but isn't the super-ego basically the side of your personality that is given over to being righteous and upholding morals? How exactly is Asuka considered the 'super-ego'.

I also thought Thanatos was more of the part of the Id that wanted violence and pain and destruction, which I guess is a return to nothingness.

She had no choice. At the end of the day Kaworu has more control over Adam-based Eva units than whatever soul is inside them.

Why not Kaji? He's not a dicklet. That's why I ship him with Asuka. Best couple.

>complemented by everyone else anyway!

Except the concept of a compliment doesn't exist when you, and every other human ever, are a giant pool of Tang.

I just meant to point out the irony in Gendo essentially cannibalizing his personal/family life in order to bring all human souls together as one. Which just brings us to the age old question of "Do the ends justify the means?"

I would say in this case, they probably don't. Shinji rejects his dad's plan and now has to live on with that trauma. Gendo's legacy is not a great one.

> Kaworu himself is probably the biggest plot device character in the show. He's not developed at all, probably my biggest complaint with the show.

Because Anno couldn't expand on Kaworu's character development, much less the possibility of him being present in multiple episodes without the TV studio turning it down because "no-homo bro."
It's the reason why he shipped episode 24 to the studio minutes before it was supposed to actually air, as already noted by He went through a fuckton of trouble to and even more potential career self-sabotage just to get Kaworu in one episode, that's how much he cares about the character and the intended messages that he was trying to portray with him.

Because I just want the kids to be happy and for them to form long lasting relationships with each other. Shinji and Asuka are basically made for each other with their collective autism and mental baggage.

so Shinji wakes up in a hellscape of robots on a cross, because Jesus, and mankind made the Evas carry their burden because the bible and science and Anno likes his bible fanfiction
But he wakes up with Asuka, who was either with him, or was the first to choose to return, because they may may not love each other
either way, Shinji chokes her because reasons, she doesnt fight and holds his cheek, he cries, she calls him disgusting, Rei is in the background because you never know who Shinji may may not love, and now its a new world, with Shinji as a new Adam, and Asuka as a new Eve, because the bible
you might be asking alot of whys, and youd be one in a billion of people asking why this or that

the idea is somewhere along the line, humans developed their own identity, but they become lost, and the aliums have super identity because they have AT fields, which is their identity being projected out, but even the aliums are looking for sonething, their mother. The Human Instrumentality Project was the merge all of humanity into one identity, the red sea at the end of the movie, so humans wouldnt feel lost anymore. alot of elements are missing because theres always the implication of something bigger at work, whether its the illuminati, whether its God, whether its the metaphysical, Evangelion likes to lean on the big mystery so theres always questions and mystery

and thats why Evangelion is for big brains thank you for reading pls like and subscribe

>Except the concept of a compliment doesn't exist when you, and every other human ever, are a giant pool of Tang.
That's the point. It doesn't matter whatever happened before because now they're all one anyway.
>Which just brings us to the age old question of "Do the ends justify the means?"
I don't think so either but do you blame him for thinking he was doing the right thing? Did he really need to get his head bitten off?

They're not real, user.
You're using fictional characters as escapism, Anno says that's a big no no.

Anno is a radical anti-escapist. (is that a word?)

When your AT field is strong enough, you don't care about clothing

Damn, didn't know that. Kaworu has a place in the show, it's just jarring to have him appear, attempt to leave this big impact, and die all in one episode. Where do you guys get these details on the shows production?

An Anno no no?

Asuka and Shini can have those things with other people, just forcing those things on each other would just be dependency and not love. I support Asuka having a new boyfriend so she can grow as a person.

He says abusing escapism is a big no-no. If he hated Escapism absolutely why would he try to portray that message via an inherently escapist medium.

Also just because I want the characters in a story I like to have closure and be happy doesn't mean I'm anywhere near as close to the people Anno was truly trying to talk to who completely ran away from reality and used escapism as a replacement.

I totally forgot Kaworu was the one that was the closest to actually starting impact in the show

Why was Rei I such a cunt? Was that Yui saying that old hag stuff because she knew of the affair?

Rei-1 was killed by Naoko, didn't show much hate to Gendo, but had a stronger Lilith's soul.

Explains why Anno went all out on the homo once he got successful and wasn't tied to a TV station

Attached: Shinji_and_Kaworu_3.0.png (880x1228, 2.07M)

d'you think Anno ever read it?

They kinda' remind me of Toby Fox, creator of Undertale. I get what they're doing and I think their goal is noble, but the way they're doing it seems a little (and I always struggle to think of the right word here, but) preachy or possibly even backwards. People idolize these fictional characters because they're so much better than the real thing, it's like you're painting a bull's-eye and complaining that people are shooting at it; they're not going to go shoot at real bull's-eyes when you've made one that's clearly so much better. Just like with Undertale, of course if the monsters were real, it'd be better to let them live than slaughter them all, but that's kind of an underhanded stance to take since video game developers created those monsters as a facsimile of actual living things so we could unload our primal desires to murder things against them and not have to actually kill any actual living creatures. It's like telling a boxer that maybe the boxing bag doesn't want to get hit - well, no shit, but it's a fucking bag designed for them to hit instead of a real person, can I hit YOU instead? You're not attacking the problem here, you're attacking the solution.

Now, the reason I (tentatively) call them noble is because they don't actually care about these things, they care about the underlying motives that cause these things, and maybe the world would be a better place if those motives didn't exist. But they don't attack those. They can't. Those motives are unassailable and people would call them fucking idiots, or a grumpy old man (Anno) or a hippie faggot (Toby). You can yell at moths for being attracted to the light, and maybe you can stop them by turning the light off, but you can't stop them from being attracted TO light. They're just going to go find another light, because they're moths and that's what moths do. They were naturally selected to be that way. Who the Hell are you to tell them it's wrong? Why are you so enlightened?

Kyoko was asleep, Kaworu said as much that the soul was inactive - likely since Asuka's sync hit 0

start with the greeks

Making the entry plug socket at the crotch would have been too obvious, but it's like if you follow the entry vector you'd eventually exit there

She overheard Gendo say it, and kids tend to repeat things and get amused when it causes a reaction.

Now question is, did Gendo plan to have Rei call Akagi a hag?

Super-ego is basically what culture and others do to your called self. It's something 'printed' on you by others without you realizing it.
In Freudian terms Thanatos is the death drive whereas Eros is the life drive, there are a ton of articles and publications about Freud's Eros and Thanatos if you're interested.

>Did he really need to get his head bitten off?
Actually, I think yeah. He very selfishly built NERV and created this world around himself just so he could be reunited with Yui. The fact that Yui is the one that kills him feels justified, and a condemnation of his behavior.

I don't blame him for thinking that way though, but still makes him a dickhole, IMO. There's a version of Gendo that achieves Instrumentality without being a douche to everyone.

Attached: 9_months_of_preggo_sex.jpg (562x393, 69K)

There's official comments, articles interviews and documents about it, but I'd have to go dig for them on the internet; it might take a while.

IIRC, in the very first draft, he was supposed to have blonde hair instead of white, and that he owned a pet cat (which was actually supposed to be the real angel that would end up possessing Kaworu, until Anno decided to rewrite him as the final angel instead.)

Attached: CzQAI_7VEAAtS6I.jpg (721x800, 103K)

What is this from? I like framing of their hands. It's a nice reversal of the Gendo Pose.

If the timeloop theory about Rebuild turns out to be true, I'll say yes.

Attached: RE_TAKE_04_81.jpg (672x1000, 129K)

We missed out on evil cat angel?
Fuck.

Was PenPen going to be an angel too?

It's Re-Take, the best doujin ever made.

Attached: re-take2.png (842x1200, 292K)

Timelooping was introduced in Eva iterations before Retake came out, though

Attached: Re-Build.jpg (1810x1406, 974K)

Thanks user.

>he thinks that Re-Take invented time travel/time loop in Eva

Attached: smug Aki.jpg (768x768, 65K)

Okay, then what officially did?

You mean the cringiest one ever made.

The best parts about Re-Take were suicidal Rei with the paint bucket and when Toji beat the shit out of her.

He certainly didn't need to mistreat his son, yeah. Obviously he's a douche but at least it's justified-ish? Man I need to go to bed I've had nothing but Evangelion in my head for hours now. At least I interacted with people, take that Anno! :----)

Super Robot Wars, Kaworu is hinted to have knowledge of the TV series.
Since then he's been the timelooper character in numerous Eva spin off manga and games.
And it's the same in Rebuild.

Attached: it's a squeakel.jpg (685x960, 64K)

Disgusting.

>went all out on the homo
Hardly.

Haha... you and me both. Take it easy user. :)

Seele created Nerv to carry on with the prophecy on the dead sea scrolls.
Both Seele and Nerv (at least, Gendo) want instrumentality, but Gendo has a different objective: reunite with Yui while becoming a god.
Seele did not nothing wrong

Was it Armisael or Rei? thinkingemoji.jpg

>Asuka and Shini can have those things with other people
and you can be the reifag that you are, and nobody will care

The piano straight up turns into the gay rainbow flag, I don't see how it can get any more blatant than that

Attached: rainbow.jpg (1920x1080, 353K)

>Was it Armisael or Rei? thinkingemoji.jpg
Fair. It totally could have been, but I'd still guess probably not because Rei's defining trait is basically wanting to die.

Yui knew that Asuka would never be best girl

For the last time, Rei wants to die.

and people ask why asuka is better than rei
how can you not feel admiration for someone that can go throw all of that and keep going, not only that, how can you not feel the need to help her?
i actually felt disguted writting that, waifufaggotry really is for retards, i actually like asuka because i see a lot of my self in her, i obviously didnt pass for all the things asuka had to live tho

Stop self-inserting, you can still like Asuka and want the best for her without being a characterfag.

Attached: D2F46EE0-2F8C-4DA6-915C-FCB58736E810.jpg (1114x1600, 505K)

And the best for Asuka is Shinji

You can get way more blatant, for example have a defined romantic narrative. And that's not pride flag, the colors are upside down.

>wahh she's better because she's mourning her losses
remember, down the road and not across the street.

That’s the gayest shit in 3.0, but doesn’t top holding hands in the hot tub

Attached: AAF11FAA-C6D9-4BCD-BD9A-22A3645EA34E.jpg (1114x1600, 499K)

Definitely not.

Attached: 961CCCE7-FFE3-44E5-8B52-6D41F9DAABF6.jpg (1114x1600, 554K)

You must be joking.

Everyone always says that Gendo's plan is just to reunite with Yui, but what exactly does that means?
Does he want to see her or revive her? Does he has no problem with killing everyone just for that? And even if Gendo's a crazy fuck, how are there people like Fuyutsuki that have no problem in helping him?

>Asukafags

you misinterpreted my comment, i dont care about waifu faggotry, that is just bait, the spoiler was the real comment

Don’t forget the number of open coffins in 2.22 that he’s introduced in correlate with his deaths in the original Anime and manga.

Fuyutsuki is a cuck lel.

>forgetting about the fucking horses
What the fuck was Anno smoking, no straight man could write this shit.

Attached: Evangelion 3.33-12h20m32s1.png (1280x544, 1.49M)

Rei is a Yui's clone. Maybe Rei 1 got imprinted some of Yui's soul too in the first print.

Asukafags only see Asuka as a piece of meat, not a character.

who said it was a man? it looks like his wife's work.

To be fair, any man with a brain sees women that throw themselves at other men as pieces of meat.

Do the horses mount eachother? If not, not gay.

I wouldn't be surprised, doesn't Anno's wife write shoujo manga? This shit seems right up her alley.

>he thinks Chad sees his walking onaholes as people
>he thinks Chad cares about them and doesn't simply move on to the next cum dumpster
Woman please.

Is this the most confusing (and actually popular/relevant) anime ever made?

As a kid seeing it I had no clue what was really going on, just that it was practically a kaiju show with teen drama in between and some funky lore.

Now, so many years later, having watched it again and reading things like this thread I think I still only stand parts of it. I kind of get the theme of making connections with people but I mean understanding the actual lore for what's going on is still pretty fucking wild.

Attached: 1562702436438.png (371x353, 148K)

It's not remotely confusing, just ignore the esoteric terminology and focus on the substance

The SuperEgo is also responsible for criticism, judging, and moralizing. Asuka fills this role, she relentlessly judges and criticizes the flaws of other characters, loudly and without a single bit of repentance. It's both internal and external judgement too and this also fits with Asuka, she's even more harsh on herself than she is on the people around her, she's never got a second of reprise from her own aggression without the healthy counterbalance of less judgemental people, it eventually literally drives her crazy.
>Handholding
Well at least they're using protection, still unacceptable for a Christian image board please delet.

2 questions I've never really understood

1. Why does anyone want to create another impact? I know Gondo wants to be reunited with his dead wife through it somehow, but otherwise why? And what's the difference between who initiates an impact?

2. So is instrumentality like a state of almost afterlife heaven perfection, but in the real world, so it's basically just a state of illusion or something?

Based fucking thread.

Attached: c144.jpg (800x436, 54K)

But none of her 'criticisms' of others are valid, most of it is just projecting her own insecurities and she gets punished by the series for it.

Based on the fact that Rei gives Shinji control, I assume it means that at least as long as you have cooperation with the seed creating the event then you have the ability to reshape the world to an extent, at least when it comes to the life which that seed has created. Anybody could have a strong enough reason to want another impact. Instrumentality isn't an afterlife, it's the reunification of all the life created by a seed, a return to the primordial material from which it was made, along with the metaphysical minds of that life, you don't go off to an idealized version of your own imagination, your consciousness loses it's coherent borders and your mind becomes part of a single massive super-intelligence with no distinct individuals. To me at least that would be hell, a significant component of my self worth resides in being distinct from other individuals (not being better or worse than them, just not being them).

As an asukafag
Kys

Some are valid.
She gets angry at Shinji for saying sorry in order to avoid conflict, she calls Rei a doll at a time where she is still acting rather robotic, and she'll call out Misato on some of her behaviors.

Apparently the version of instrumentality Gendo sought would be like 2.
With SEELE its harder to tell, they may have just wanted humanity to be a giant hivemind blob.

Meant to reply to

Super-Egoistic criticism doesn't necessarily have to be valid, a lot of moralizing isn't about making coldly logical criticisms, it's about immediate instinctual gut reaction judgment of other people's behavior. It can be correct or incorrect but that's not relevant, the relevant component is simply that it's making judgement. "Shinji is a coward" and "Japanese are weird for having no locks" and "Rei is like a doll" or "I need to do the best" or "I need to beat the other pilots for the synchro test" are all super-ego work.

>>Shinji with wet hair at the start of EoE indicating he just tried to drown himself since he can't swim as told in ep. 10 (which is why him swimming at the end is important symbolically)
Never noticed that detail.

Could Shinji even drown in the LCL sea, would it be oxygenated like the Entry Plug LCL?

>I'm gonna wipe out humanity just to save my waifu
The mad lad.

im saving it thanks user

Are you talking about Gendo or Shinji?
Because while Gendo intended to do that, Shinji carried it out - whether intentional or not.

Alright, thanks. Things are starting to make more sense at least. I'm surprised that the combined being that instrumentality causes doesn't just mean Lilith/Adam get remade through re-absorbing the life they spawned, since it seems like that'd be a possible result and part of why Lilith/Adam even participate in triggering an impact. (like the naked Lilith-Rei was an active player proceeding with causing the impact to make instrumentality happen, had Shinji not rejected it)

Not him but,
>Are you talking about Gendo or Shinji.
YES, Ikari autism is hereditary.

Both and on both main entries of the series.

Oh yeah, Shinji did do it twice.

Seeing how in 3.0 everyone was pissed at him for doing it, if other people come back in EoE does that mean they will also be pissed at him in the same way?

How do I get Kaworu to fall in love with me bros

Attached: 1488347587056.jpg (1440x810, 118K)

So Lilith/Rei only cared about Shinji and not humanity, right? Because from what I understand humanity and all life overall gets fucked by the third impact even though Shinji rejected instrumentality. So he's the only one left alive then, I think? (and is fucking doomed if so) So he chooses individuality/non-escapism and basically chose death then.

The impact event itself is just the creation of a FAR-like entity with both the infinite energy of an S2 engine and a fully sapient mind capable of change and evolution. The specific events of the NGE end or End of Eva are a result of instructions given to Rei beforehand about what to do with her new deity-like power. SEELE wanted humanity to be united as a single god-like entity to travel through the stars for all eternity, Gendo was OK with that but specifically wanted to be reunited with Yui, while Shinji didn't give a shit about that and decided to personally return to being an individual to try and live with the associated trials, and if I remember correctly just said everyone else should just be left to decide for themselves. Based on how few human characters are around it seems like most people were content to remain tang.

Shinji chose for instrumentality to start, so Rei went ahead and tanged everyone.
Shinji changed his mind, so people are said to be able to come back if they want to - not sure what state the souls of others are left in, if they are still in a form of instrumentality coming up with the idea of wanting to return may be far more difficult than one would imagine.

Asuka comes back too at least, and the trees are there.

Attached: trees.jpg (1920x1080, 283K)

He left it up to everyone else but he personally chose individuality.
