Makes sense for the actual animation process to just take about 1 year. There's unfortunately a ton of CG, as neat looking as it is, it's still a shortcut and most of the hand-drawn animation just looks like a cool TV anime rather than a movie.

Nothing unfortunate about it, even from the previews you can see that the entire movie was built in function of the use of CGI, with the camera always moving and a lot of action scenes that would have been impossible otherwise (the chase between the skyscrapers is especially impressive). This seems like the coronation of Imaishi's ambitions regarding CGI over the last decade: he progressively experimented more with it starting with TTGL, PSG (the best result before Promare) had a lot of impressive camerawork enabled by it and even a full-CGI episode by Senzigen, and then he worked as an action CGI director for a friend's show (Black Rock Shooter). I imagine that for an action director working on anime can be frustrating, dealing with the ineherent limitation of not being able to move the camera a whole lot without resorting to background animation, which can't be used all the time. CGI is a very precious tool in this situation, but unfortunately it normally doesn't blend well with handrawn characters (see Miura's scene in the HF movie). Promare however, was created in order to blend the two as seamlessly as possible, with its geometric shapes, solid bright colors and thin outlines, and you can tell from the end result.

Nakashima is still enamored with the shonen he read 50 years ago, by Nagai and Ishikawa.

It depends on your mood. When I want a calm movie experience, I go for the 5-10 people screenings. But when I want something hype, with cheers and claps, I chose the ones with full rooms. It also depends on the movie eg action ones/big franchises with followers are better watched with a crowd while something more SOL is better with fewer people

No camrips unfortunately. We only have the Galo-hen and Lio-hen prequels as well as the first minutes of the movie that show how everything started. We will have to wait for the official premier in September unless someone at Otakon decides to film a scene or two, if they can manage it.
