It's gonna be good but they should've started with teenage Thorfinn and then done a flashback.

The only bad things about them were the CG heavy fights in the first few minutes of the first episode and the fact that we have to wait THREE FUCKING WEEKS.
But otherwise, it's awesome and everything I hoped it would be.
Ayden Perez
waiting for episode 4 to start watching it. ill just stick to the manga until then.
Austin Hill
>there are people on this board right now who want watch dr stone, fire force and shitty isekai anime instead of this
every season my hatred for weebs grows
Ryder Howard
Askeladd did nothing wrong.
Robert Brooks
The story is pretty meh so far. When will it get better?
Joseph Powell
I've caught up with the manga and I have opinions and complains, hear my autism.
First, I now agree with anybody who said Askeladd is based. He was already an entertaining bastard, but until the point his true nature is revealed I hoped he'd get some sort of divine retribution. After that I started to love him.
Now, let's get to the biggest chunk of the post(s). Call me a filthy peasant (pun), but the manga DID get more disappointing from "farmland saga" onwards. Not bad, but I really can't accept how different it is now.
>inb4 teen, shounentard, edgelord, [random buzzword]
No, none of this. Look, I get it: people die when they get killed, find your purpose in life, revenge is pointless, all the other stuff. I get it, really. This kind of development was also more or less the natural path that was hinted since the introduction of Thors, and it was inevitable after the ending of the prologue.
What I didn't like is how watered-down the manga felt from this arc on, and not only because of the slower pacing but also because of the change in tone. There were suddenly way more clear attempts at humor. The drama felt less "direct" and natural if compared to the unforgiving "cause-effect", "down-to-earth" tragedy of before. The message became more banally "preachy" whereas it was once more "subtle", and so on.
Again, I liked and expected some of the developments, but the farm arc would have been better if it weren't so dragged out (to say one). But actually most of my problem lies after the farm arc.
I love adventure stories with colorful characters and I definitely enjoy comedy and cute girls. However, this really feels like another manga althogheter if compared to the "prologue": while farmland could still work in the big picture as a "small" parenthesis because of its particular nature, after it the points I mentoned earlier enlarged further confirming that there was indeed a fundamental change in the nature of the manga.
(split post, more below)
Josiah Ross
Not glorious enough
Jason Perry
Before this part the cast felt like real people, now they feel like characters: Thorfinn is a walking ideal, there's the spineless comic relief, fucking Thorkell became comic relief as well, not one but TWO "rebellious women forced into unhappiness by men" in the SAME crew (Ylfa and Helga were a perfect example of strong women without the need to use anacronisms and clichés if that was the intention, pic related for example stuck to me), edgy spear guy rival, the Jomsvikings became an evil organization with retarded grunts etc.
Also, I know this setting was never meant to be 100% realistic, but even the horse-punching Thorkell felt in place in that world since he was presented as an amazing and unique "anomaly", something almost legendary along with Thors. But now there is way too much crazy shit happening instead, so I can't see any believable stakes anymore.
The weird moments aren't even self-contained. Example: the comedic way used to portray Sigurd being sold into slavery clashes EVEN with the farm arc.
It's like a battle shounen now. It might be enjoyable, but the contrast with before is jarring.
In theory the thought of a crazy crew raising a kid is great, I enjoy Sigurd's wacky path to heroism or Gudrid being moe, Hild's crossbows are cool, scenes like Thorkell's are funny [...].
Still, every time I can't help but think: "this doesn't feel natural", "this would have been portrayed differently before", "this guy looks like he came from another manga" and so on.
It's NOT shit, but it's like Vinland Saga ended with the England arc and a different manga entirely took its place.
If you don't believe me try rereading it from the start.
>"but that was just the prologue, maybe THIS is was what the real manga was supposed to be"
Then I either like the prologue way more or I really dislike such big toneshifts.
tl,dr
This manga changed a lot since the end of the prologue and while that didn't necessairly make it shit, I'm not happy about that either

I was looking forward for years since you retarded mangafaggots hyped it as the second coming of Berserk. What the fuck is this shit? It's like watching a bad, low-budget History Channel show, except it also contains the usual anime bullshit.

Connor Powell
I'd say from next episode.
Andrew Wilson
wholesome
Evan Rodriguez
It's so good. Usually, if I watch multiple Episodes of something, I watch OP once at the start and ED once after I'm done with them all.
I watched both three times. The ED especially is haunting and gave me goosebumps every time. Studio WIT seems to be great.
Cameron Nguyen
That's funny, because I heard it only gets worse.
Asher Gutierrez
You're right but typing it all out still makes you seem rather autistic.
John Gray
Hate to reply to your autistically long post with a short reply but that's how most people feel. The manga's very different right now and we can only hope that now that Baltic Namek is over, we might see it segue into something like how it was before.
Blake Martinez
That's because you listen to faggots, faggot.
Charles Powell
Maps and shit.
Michael Rogers
>implying the moralfaggotry isn't coming from a retired warrior who has killed droves of men and has been permanently left with a deep fear in his heart because he finally has something to lose: his children.
Thors' moralizing comes from a place of love and protective instinct for his children. He's not a hippy that thinks " hey everyone should get along after all :) ". He understands the place and use of violence very well. I'll remind you that when he says the moralfag line, he's talking directly to his children.

I couldn't even fathom there being a VS anime 1 year ago and now it will have merchandise and everything. It's a weird feel.
Easton Brooks
Its fucking beautiful. Nature has become so rare in modern anime. This is so refreshing.
Nicholas Williams
You Vinlandfags are like clockwork. Say one bad word about your shitshow and you'll be bombarded by a pack of buttblasted niggers. The first one at least made a point before degenerating into angry insults.
>dr reddit
I don't watch shounenshit, and, unlike you, I honestly don't know which exact shows are popular over there, but I imagine Vinland Saga is getting a lot of attention.
Adrian Brooks
they should diverge from manga after ch. 50 like fma 03 did t bh
Gabriel Allen
do feel free to reveal what you're watching this season, user
Lincoln Jenkins
This season is trash. You don't care what I watch, so why do you ask? So that you can retort with "hahaha you watch xyz? what a retard!" and feel better about yourself?
Hunter Mitchell
literally yes, have some skin in the game
you have yet to respond to
Noah Ward
he watches slice of life moe shit obviously
Juan Jackson
Nah. Posting fateshit is enough to mock you.
Landon Brown
>the first one at least made a point before degenerating into angry insults
And instead of arguing with him on that front, you're just focusing on the people that didn't take kindly to you being extremely and unfairly dismissive about a manga they like. Get over yourself, faggot.
Owen Bailey
What skin in the game? You think I visit an anonymous anime imageboard in order to get some imaginary argument points? To what exactly am I yet to respond? I said he made a point and that I don't watch "dr reddit". I don't have a problem with preachy moralfag characters, I have a problem with preachy moralfag narrative.
>you have to be a fan of every anime in your reaction image folder
Try to lurk for 2 years. Or better yet, lurk forever.
Henry Baker
The only part I really had an issue with was some of the jarring CG in the first battle, but it was mostly tolerable outside of it
Thors leaping from ship to ship looks ridiculous but it's not enough to detract from the show.
Isaac Brooks
Is this is the bit where you act above 'petty argument'? This is the time and place for petty argument, user. You are here, right now, responding to me. If you believe that this is not a good investment of your time, perhaps do something worthwhile. I would suggest reading, personally. William Blake, maybe?
Jaxson Hall
It would help if you mangafags didn't hype the shit out of it for years on no end. No wonder there will be backlash if it inevitably ends up sucking. I will give you the benefit of the doubt that manga is more enjoyable, considering the QUALITY of animation.
You're saying I'm dismissive, but I tried arguing civilly. I was met with the exact same barrage of insults.
I love William Blake. I might re-read some of his work tonight, thanks for the tip.
Carter Kelly
SHROOMS
Tyler James
>tried arguing civilly
>used arguments shitposters used and a fucking strawman
Sure thing, buddy. Kill yourself while you're at it too.
Jack Thompson
>tried arguing civilly
Exaggerating to the point of calling it a low-budget History channel show isn't civil arguing. Nor is over blowing one scene where a father understandbly tells his son that romanticizing war is retarded to mean that the narrative is suddenly preachy. Nor is expecting Japanese voice actors to not use their own honorifics and slur out mister and miss or god forbid viking terms in their broken language system reasonable.
>QUALITY
Literally name one part that isn't the pre-OP of the first episode. The scenery is gorgeous and the designs and animation are on point. This is why people reacted negatively to your post. It's like you didn't even watch the show.
Jordan Diaz
Do you have trouble comprehending subtleties of written English? That sentence clearly implies past time.
>used arguments shitposters used
Huh? You'll have to elaborate.
Jaxon Reed
This is a show for men.
Kevin Harris
I don't think that's something that anybody does much anymore, and I'm not sure I'd want that either.
However, You know what would be pretty cool?
If the first season of the anime ended right at the end of the prologue PLUS a mute final minute timeskip showing a contemplative Thorfinn in the fields with a hoe or something staring at the rising/seting sun. It would work nice as a closure without actually going against the canon (so that making the next seasons won't be impossible).
Plus, if they'll manage to put Prologue, Farmland and Baltic Sea in three distinct seasons my autism would probably relax a bit, because then there would be a clear demarcation between three parts that I felt so different.
Yeah I know, but I was very mad at how I tried making a smaller, normal post about this for TWO times and both times losing it for some stupid reason (accidentally closing and browser and failing to copypaste), so this thime I decided that I might as well go all out with the autism and tye my entire thoughts.
>Hate to reply to your autistically long post with a short reply
That's fine.
But yeah, let's see if things will change. If they won't I guess I'll get over it and start enjoying it for what it is now.
Chase Howard
>I tried arguing civilly. I was met with the exact same barrage of insults.
Please point me to which part of this sentence implies I am talking about this thread and I'll apologize for a misunderstanding, because I'm pretty damn sure the second sentence unequivocally implies otherwise.
Dylan Edwards
Also, I'll give you the scenery and designs, but I never mentioned them in the first place. The animation is weak all the way through. Indeed, I am not sure if we're watching the same show. Maybe I accidentally downloaded pre-production episodes?
Caleb Morris
would you?
Leo Sullivan
Ja
Luke Johnson
I want Ylva to step on my throat while she files her nails.
Carter Butler
Discipline is important.
Austin Kelly
Jesus Christ, dude. It implies the past but "the past" could mean this very thread a few minutes ago since all the conditions apply here as well. It might've been more clear if you said "I HAVE tried arguing civilly" but I'm not your English teacher. I can't believe I'm even typing this.
Jeremiah Gomez
so the moralfag thing has been addressed in this thread, the animation is serviceable at worst (exception being from that one janky CG boat hopping scene in episode 1). It seems to me that you're mostly here because you got so buttblasted by (most likely retarded) vinlandfags somewhere else that you just HAD to come here and act like a nigger. Am I wrong? Is this not pathetic user?
Owen Collins
The animation looked fine to me. There was hardly any action so of course it looked "weak." But uneventful animation isn't QUALITY. Stop exaggerating so much and people will stop assuming you're a shitposter.
Jack Martinez
Why all these anime have such shit names. And result on being shit animes.
>Something Saga
>Re:Something
Cameron Harris
I loved the Farmland Saga arc but I do feel that Yukimura Makoto kind of stumbled a bit with Baltic Sea War arc. Hild, Gudrid and Sigurd kind of introduced clumsily into the story but now both Gudrid and Sigurd developed into real people. Only Hild still a bit pointless now.
I think Yukimura is rushing the story pace now instead of taking his time to develop and portray each character properly, like he wants Thorfinn to reach Vinland as fast as possible, hence his writing is not as good as before.
Mason Hughes
You do know the manga is based on historical texts of Saga of Erik the Red and Sagas of the Icelanders. We’re lucky that the mangaka didn’t name it Saga of Thorfinn Karlsefni.
Grayson Lee
ESL-kun, it's literally based off Nordic sagas.
Connor Torres
It's great so far, you can tell they're doing their best to make a good adaptation of the source material. And I really enjoy the pacing, which will obviously alienate some people who are used to the regular fast pacing in most shows (and who go into it expecting muh epic viking fights every episode).
Actually, watching all 3 episodes back to back reminds me of typical live-action 1-hour long tv show episodes, which I think is cool.
Logan King
Vinland Saga came out years before Zombieland Saga which is the only thing that shares its naming scheme. And in case you did not know since you seem ESL, the word "saga" can be used to specifically refer to viking legends so it's very appropriate here.
Juan Long
I want her to stop being a bitch !!
Luke Reed
I agree with this, and the moment it actually hit me was when Thorfinn said "I like playing on hard mode" which really makes the whole thing seem more like a holywood movie/action flick played by actors, and not a legitimate story of the old like it was before.
I don't blame him though. Just like Miura, he's been going at it for a really long time and people change. Maybe it's because their lives got better (or worse), or maybe it's the media they consumed which added up over time, but it's hard to keep the tone of a story consistent over a span of so many years.
Levi Kelly
My wife Canute soon
Bentley Taylor
Are people who are wifing Canute the same people who dropped this when they hit the farm?
Thomas Nelson
Imagine speedreading this hard.
Jose Campbell
Farmland Saga best arc
Grayson Johnson
He was baiting Garm and making him angry by calling him a Noob, why is it that hard to understand?
Leo Rivera
Why did they start off with the prequel chapters? Why can't anime adaptations ever get the story order right?
Thomas Phillips
I felt it dragged a bit. Thorfinn was dragging his heels for quite a bit until his PTSD dream. I definitely felt that the latter half of Farmland was super impactful
Gavin Carter
The first half of Farmland Saga is just comfy.
John Collins
I'm not him, but you missed the point of the post.
It's not the meaning itself that was off, it's talking in the terms of "increasing difficulty" that felt off because it sounds like something too related to modern concepts.
It was just phrased/translated awkwardly.
Thomas Rodriguez
It's dreary. Things suck for most of the cast. Granted there's some nice closure when the trees are cleared and the grass starts growing . I will also wholeheartedly admit that I'm a sucker for good action so it was a slog at some points for me to get through enough of the arc to where shit started to kick off again.
And then the Baltic arc happened.
Jaxson Williams
Thank god,you are not a director.
Liam Moore
That worked nicely as an introduction to the manga because you can make a chapter long 80 pages. If it's gonna take more than one episode to do a similar thing in anime form, then there's no real point doing it first.
It will work better as a time-skip.
Zachary Butler
What merch?
Joseph Sanders
The struggle is what makes them actually figuring out how to farm so satisfying.
Samuel Foster
I'm just saying these twitter icons will surely be mass produced onto every merch possible.
Easton Edwards
No, Farmland is my favorite
Landon Russell
>why do people speaking japanese use japanese honorifics
Kayden Smith
I can't wait 3 fucking weeks for more Askechad. He's one of my all time favorite and we barely got anything in 3 episodes.
Eli Lewis
I read till the faeming chapters a decade ago and the only thing I remember is Askelaad being a boss, and screaming over a pile of dead bodies.
Aiden Baker
But it felt less satisfying to me because I could give less of a fuck about farming. I know its important to this arc but I know that its irrelevant in the grand scheme of things other than being a vehicle for Thorfinn's character development. It also reinforces the existing themes of pacifism and introduces new characters and the hard impetus for Thorfinn's desire to go to Vinland, but it just drags for me until the second half.
Dylan Thomas
It's not really irrelevant. Their entire goal is to go to Vinland to farm. Get ready for more farming
Luke Morales
Fair. But we're a long, long ways away from Vinland.
Brayden Stewart
True, it will probably be over 100 chapters before they even leave
Grayson Edwards
And to add to this, I'll admit that I didn't come for comfy. There was nothing comfy about the farmland arc in the end, just a small mountain of corpses, a lot of maimed people, and a tragic end to Arnheid's story . Perhaps I'm an edgy bastard but that's what I'm looking for.
Jacob Howard
youtu.be
I love the ED song.
Hudson Miller
Aimer never disappoints. And visuals are beautiful too
William Lewis
Bad CGI, so I'll pass.
Jaxson Morris
Thank you for the bump.
Gavin Wilson
It has the best CGI I've seen in a seasonal anime, what are you talking about?
They seem to know when to use it so it blends in and doesn't distract too much.
Why are there so many haters? The cancerous fanbase every show gets doesn't even exist yet.
Kayden Parker
Whoah its not terrible but its definitely not the best. Its wholly average. Its not Overlord or Arslan tier but its still noticeable.
Colton Jackson
>bitches begging for his dick
>vikings begging him to be their chief
>rejects it all
I know it's totally against the manga's message but I really wanted this to stay relevant or get a bonus what-if chapter in the tankobon. Maybe have Eskil and Vragi to hang around. Hell, we all know that once he meets the Varangians, shit's going to go down. I'm missing out on a clash between the Varangian Guard and the Jomsvikings!
Adam Hughes
It's the same people who were saying that the entire anime would look like Berserk 2016 based on trailers. The CGI looks good. Yeah you can see some problems if you look closely but it doesn't ruin the experience
Nolan Price
He should have kept the god damn cape
Gabriel Cook
Are you me?
Wyatt Hill
Leif Erikson is fucking based
Wyatt Bennett
He's a funny guy, too bad his role in the prologue is pretty small
Zachary Collins
When do you think Thorfinn is finally going to convert to Christianity? And I forget, was Thors Christian? Did he switch once he left the Jomsvikings and go to Iceland?
Hunter Anderson
It's not mentioned, but if Thors was Christian then his family would probably be too, but that's not the case. But Thorfinn might switch since we know that at least his son Snorri is going to spread Christianity to Iceland
Jason Jackson
It's pretty clear Thofinn is heavily interested in it though. He quite clearly enjoys the Bible's lessons and loved to listen to recitations of the Gospel while doing farmwork. Leif is Christian, and Einar should be as well. Hild is Christian for sure. Seems like it's inevitable. Maybe once he goes to Grikkland or Kievan Rus?
Henry Martinez
I wouldn't be surprised. Even though he isn't necessarily the religious type he clearly likes the philosophy behind it
Blake Scott
There's no reason to watch it if you read the manga.
The piss poor cgi pans make me physically ill.
Aiden Baker
yeah, probably everyone reading the manga feels the same
Angel Campbell
Oh shut the fuck up. The only notciable CG is in the first scene of ep1.
Nathaniel Brooks
>it looks good
No it doesn't and mimicking dynamic camera movement without really putting in the effort to your 2d character art is actually a textbook example of how not to animate.
I mean it's literally textbook. They teach it in schools.
Jose Johnson
DAREKA KOTAETE MITEKUREYO
Andrew Lopez
So its obvious the kids dad dies. Anyone else dissapointed? The story is much more interesting if he was main character and kid dies or not instead.
Camden Johnson
aimer always sings the same song
Nicholas Allen
How about you experience the story first before you try to improve it with your retarded ideas?
Isaiah Robinson
It's not supposed to be a secret. In the manga you learn in the first chapter that Thors is dead. The entire story is about Thorfinn's journey to become like his father
Jaxson Cruz
Why would it be more interesting?
James Murphy
Nigga how is yet another shonen shit show with dumb autistic kid that REEEES better. Attack on Titan Vinland Saga lot of animes would be better off if the insufferable main is character dead and replaced by someone else.
Landon King
Again, you haven't experienced the story yet you complete mongoloid. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
Jason Thomas
>anime onlys analyzing vinland saga after three episodes
Dylan Brooks
How is a story 6 year old kid interesting? Should hollywood make more kindergarten cops?
Jordan Bailey
Look at the image above, does that look like a 6 year old? user, did you even see the opening?
Cameron Fisher
But what if he got older mr anime only?
Joshua Price
who cares his whole backstory is he butthurt REEEE his daddy got killed. Literally every character introduced other then the villagers and thorfinns mom would make for a more interesting story.
Easton Torres
Hey I watch it along with Vinland saga
Elijah Roberts
Reminder that this guy probably enjoys flavor of the month isekai and has a "seasonal waifu"
Zachary Wilson
...
Nathan Lee
It could've been a great scene with slightly different wording. He could've just said he was giving himself a handicap, not "increasing the difficulty pwn u scrub".
Nicholas Ortiz
Historically it doesn't make sense since vikings were slavers and murdering savages.
Christian Ross
>Fateshitter
Lucas Lee
Imagine being an*lo and being upset that not every single viking is portrayed as a slaver
Jonathan Gutierrez
So just like they are in Vinland Saga then
Eli Baker
This is a huge problem of modern anime in general, the over reliance on CG. That said I won't be watching it because I just can't imagine this being a decent adaptation of the manga.
Jace Bailey
It doesn't make sense for them to show any humanity other then what you see in animals.
Joseph Harris
You have a weak imagination then.
Christian Ward
I have no idea what you are talking about. Nearly all vikings in the manga are brutal killers. Thors is no longer a viking and almost everyone in the series would consider him a weirdo
Aaron Kelly
Holy fuck, what is it with with CGtalk? Its just the first fucking fight scene. Everything else has been beautifully animated in 2d. Kill yourself.
Jayden Garcia
Anime truly was a mistake. Not because it's bad but because it attracts anime-onlys with their stupid thoughts about things they don't understand
Zachary Garcia
>I think Yukimura is rushing the story pace now instead of taking his time to develop and portray each character properly, like he wants Thorfinn to reach Vinland as fast as possible, hence his writing is not as good as before.
Hes nearly 15 years into developing this story and he is NOWHERE near Vinland. After we close out this Baltic Sea arc we have to deal with a trip down the Dnieper to Constantinople, whatever happens there, likely the shitshow involving Nikephoros Xiphias' revolt and presumably the return trip. From there we probably head to Vinland. Getting through the 2-3 arcs will likely take about a decade before we get to Vinland.
Ayden Myers
I always expected a Vinland Saga anime. I assumed it would be adapted like absolute shit. After Berserk's awful adaptation I just assumed that the industry is clapped out for competent directors and artist that are capable of doing complicated work. Decades of moe anime have ruined director's skillsets. Even with perfect key frames derived from the mangas we get awful camera work at times. That Vinland Saga is faring so well is astonishing. Though I'm mindful that there is very little action in the story so far.
Noah Brooks
I would say I have a pretty good imagination given that I prefer to imagine the motion myself rather than watching someone else's interpretation of how the scene should play out.
CG is cancer buddeh don't be so bitter
Jeremiah Gomez
This has to be bait
Isaac Price
This. I seriously don't understand the hate. There's a few seconds of CG and everyone loses their fucking minds.
Jonathan Rivera
Sorry, I am a sakuga enthusiast
Aiden Perry
Not defending those fags, but the "clang" left a lot of people fucked up.
Jeremiah Fisher
I was talking more about the people who whine about Thors being unrealistic in the viking era when the entire point is that his morality is completely alien to most people. But the CGI whining is annoying too
Tyler Garcia
Why is Thorkell such a bro
Thorfinn should have taken his offer to become the leader of the Jomsvikings
Henry Roberts
A 100% agreed except for Hild. There's nothing cool about what she does and she's irredeemable trash.
Brayden Morgan
this made me horny
Ryan Peterson
His story is about not getting his revenge, becoming a slave, getting PTSD and then swearing to find a land of peace away from war.
There you go animeonly.
Eli Reyes
He technically did :^)
Gabriel Allen
What are your thoughts on this character?
Henry Perez
Gay version of Thorkell who would be better off not existing. I did like his and Thorfinn's roof moments though
Brandon Smith
Thorkell without a beard, so obviously everyone hates him.
That being said his arc was dragged too much.
His arc should have ended before the siege, or some time after during a more fitting moment.
The way we got he felt more like padding.
Blake Ward
Would you a Gudrid?
Brody Turner
It's not because it's cgi, it's because it's bad cgi anonymous.
Bad cgi in the opening eyecatch of a battle doesn't bode well for climatic scenes later on in the run. You're supposed to put your best foot forward.
Its like 1000AD and they have completely anachronistic anti-Christian Danes too.
Jason Morgan
I'm fine with Farmland and Canute going from twink to MAN, it's just that I'm into twinks and sometime I think with my dick is all.
Camden Evans
Shite. The manga also went full retard so neither is enjoyable.
David Flores
Is Gudrid a christian too? I never noticed
Thomas Ward
Doesn't look like a Christian cross, I can't for the life of me remember which is it but I believe there's an Aesir whose sigil is a cross in old norse deities.
Wyatt Clark
Probably, since she married into Leif's family and he's a Christian. Anyway her son Christianizes Iceland and becomes its first Bishop
Camden Jones
Leif's brother was supposedly a madman who started fights with natives though. But I guess religion never stopped people from being people
Bentley Hall
I kinda want to visit iceland now. I was also thinking of mongolia as well
Jacob Martinez
>tfw I kinda wanna visit L'Anse aux Meadows
>it will probably be shit
Josiah Taylor
Iceland has been ruined by tourists.
Brody Richardson
I would have preferred the successful troll, but I don't get a vote.
Elijah Ortiz
He wants to get fun in life, he seams like a decent guy aside from murdering people for fun
Joshua Thomas
It was cute when he said he and Thorfinn were already friends. He dindu nuffin wrong.
Jackson Barnes
Crush those Christfags.
Carter Gomez
There were still a few pagans kicking around during this time, plus Askeladd's lads are edgy bastards. Thorkell's warband early in the campaign was still made up mostly of pagans, though the jury's out whether he historically converted or not.
Buddy in the first fight sequence one of the vikings dies uttering the name of the Virgin Mary. The Norwegians were pretty Christian by this point. Not that it changed things too much, even King Harald Haradra of Norway, famously Christian, raided the fuck out of his enemies. The Christianization of Scandinavia was done by the ruling class for reasons of establishing legitimacy and ostracizing their rivals, creating a top down effect of conversion. Also makes it so that when you conquer other Christian territories you can make yourself their king because you also happen to be the same religion.
Nathaniel Parker
I like the payoff when Smugfinn comes out and they fight, but he's a bit too much. Calling out attack names and the like added with his superhuman abilities. A bit too anime if that makes sense? Baltic Sea War as a whole suffered from way too much of that honestly.
Pop culture references, random giant, extreme mood whiplashes where Sigurd and friends are having a goofy adventure to the point where the fat guy literally body slams people while he's wearing a barrel as armor, then right after you have Thorfinn's serious arc.
Vagn's supporters also really didn't make sense because even after he died, that one dude was really insistent on making Thorfinn the chieftain when it's clear by his actions that Thorfinn's pretty much Christian all but officially and would lead to a bigger schism than Floki offered.
Brayden Gutierrez
Even Cnut had some serious troubles with the Pope didn't he? Because he was practicing polygamy?
Connor Sullivan
Not sure, haven't done too much research. Plus it was either Cnut or one of his sons who still tolerated Pagan skalds and teachings.
Lucas Collins
Not at all, polygamy issues were addressed a century later when Christianity finally took hold on Scandinavian lands, Canute being the christian king of Denmark, Norway and England pretty much gave him a free pass, not to mention Pope John XIX had a lot of shit to deal with the Schism happening under his papacy.
Evan Jackson
I just binged the manga up to 71 and the farmland arc was the best arc. I'm not sure why people hate on it.
Juan Kelly
71 isn't even halfway through Farmland Saga you dumb fuck.
Wyatt Watson
it's very different from what came before it, so some people get filtered. The run from chapter 1 to 100 is one of the best in manga.
Joseph Lewis
CG is cheap, lazy and always looks bad and ill fitting.
Gabriel Rodriguez
Well it’s more because 90% of the reasons that people like about Vinland Saga (Askeladd, Canute, the viking wars) were gone in the Farmland Saga. Not gonna lie I would be happy to follow Canute’s adventures as a king. There’s just so many interesting characters in the manga.
Josiah Gonzalez
My main issue is how suddenly it happened.
I wanted to see more young angsty Thorfinn, Canute actually growing up a pair without having a psycho dream, and maybe more Thorkell shenanigans.
It just came too abruptly to my taste.
Eli Cox

I really don't get why people are attacking this show so much.
Are popular people watching it or something? Or do they hate action anime? I really can't understand.
There are so many shit shows this season, why attack this show that is at least decent?
Benjamin Sullivan
You know you can watch more than one show per season, right? Also Stone is good.

But its not? It does the source such a disservice but shitters are too unwilling to accept that.

The only thing I dislike in Vinland Saga is when it gets too much "anime".
This character ruins everything.

Recently finished up to chapter 100 and i was disappointed that Askeladd died. All that backstory and his journey is just gone...
Daniel Ross
It was good but I'm worrying how much interest it'll hold after a 3 week break. Made me reread the first arc of the manga again, anyways.
Joseph Foster
but I did really enjoy Farmland Saga although I was disappointed in the way Ketil's character went. When we are first introduced we see him as kind accepting man of slaves and allows them to work off their freedom and such but then when that female slave (forgot her name), Ketil's personality does a huge 180 flip and kills her? What?
Elijah Wright
Henry Russell
He treat well every slave he has, but for his sex slave, he is just a man.
Leo Butler
>I was talking more about the people who whine about Thors being unrealistic in the viking era when the entire point is that his morality is completely alien to most people.
Here's the deal - people who without explanation or good reason acquire moral mores not only alien but downright insane for their time and place are unrealistic. Even if you suddenly acquite pacifism, you don't then hang in an effectively lawless place like late 900s Iceland, where your sole real protection from being pushed around with violence is your own strength and number of armed buddies you can call in an emergency.
Nolan Nguyen
Ketil was a man who hated violence, but he was under a lot of stress with Canute coming to take everything from him, and then he comes home to find out that his slave lover is cheating on him so he snaps. It's just Yukimura trying to show that everyone is capable of violence in the right circumstances
Brandon Harris
Sleep tight sweet king of britain
David Richardson
The same is true even if you live on the continent. If a viking raid happens to some village help is not going to come in time if it's coming at all. At least Iceland is safe from war and a good place for people who want to disappear
Asher Cooper
Ketil was, ultimately, a greedy, selfish man. His kindness to slaves like Thorfinn and Einar was born of indifference, they didn't matter to him as long as they did their work properly. Arneis was different, she was "his" and to find himself losing her on top of Canute coming to take his farm caused him to snap.
Evan Clark
David Scott

Thomas Harris
I really only enjoyed the second half when the pace picked up and the character development really began to shine through. I’m not really on the farmland hype train, but I’m going to re-read it with more of an eye for detail since I mostly speed-read it at the time.
Also as far as Ketil goes, he’s a man who was comfortably living a lie until his whole world came crashing down around him. Arnheid’s love for Gardar and her disobedience was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Jason Hill
I watch this along with Dr. Stone and Fire Force and enjoy all of them, fite me irl fite
Jordan Watson
>because of the change in tone. There were suddenly way more clear attempts at humor. The drama felt less "direct" and natural if compared to the unforgiving "cause-effect", "down-to-earth" tragedy of before.
Yes, this.
It didn't even bother me with Farmland yet, but the Baltic arc upped that shit so far it became unreadable for me. I could accept maybe the Thorkell fun scenes, because he always was one of the few characters in this series who was so over-the-top that he always got out of line, but the author does it with everyone. Every fucking character aside from Hilde maybe gets fuckass retarded waterfall-crying panels or does stupid "funny" mistakes, or does some grimaces and nothing feels serious anymore, not even the fights or what you can even call fights, since they always stop whenever it's convinient to avoid Thorfin getting violent. And then there is that whole damn crew that mainly consists of comedic reliefs and women or children (and dogs) and I bet there will be others joining soon who will either be also laughing stock, more women and/or bishounen. Everything just feels like a different series and I don't want to waste my energy anymore trying to rationalize this.
Gabriel Perry
Watching the first 3 eps jogs my memories back on what happened to everyone. Where did the Priest go? He just wandered off is it?
Xavier Williams
No I want to wife Canute on a farm
Nathaniel Richardson
I highly doubt it. The comedy will still be everywhere because the crew doesn't change, on the contrary, it will probably get bigger and more chaotic and there will maybe even be love drama shit getting added and parent shenanigans with the stupid baby and Thorfinn will adhere to his peaceful mindset and the author will continue coming up with excuses for why he can solve everything without fighting. This might still be somewhat believable now because his enemies are vikings and he has a name, but it will become ridiculous shit if he manages to calm down hordes of other countries later that might not even understand him.
But I am 100% sure Gudrid will learn Greek and other languages to get rid of this problem and continue shoving her and the stronk woman trope down our throats, because that's how shit this manga became. I don't even have a problem with female characters here, I just wish they were more like Ylfa or something.
Juan Edwards
At the first second I thought Björn was holding a rose.
Thomas Perry
There is some anti-CG autist on this board, some of there posts are made by that guy. You can easily recognize him because his posts are full of buzzwords and he always claims an anime isn't anime as soon as it contain one single scene with CG somewhere in the background.
Cameron Green
>I dont even have a problem with women!
>Heres my problems with women!
choose.
Ethan Clark
I said this woman, not women. Nobody ever complained about female characters appearing earlier in this series or in other series that also got shit at some point but Gudrid is retarded and she makes the whole series feel cartoonish.
Leo Cruz
I really miss some of the character dynamics that went on between Askeladd/Bjorn/Ragnar/Canute/rest of Askeladd's crew that went on in the first arc. Farmland introduced new and interesting characters, but I have problems with some of the new cast like bug-eyes Thorfinn, Hild, and the fact that they're sailing to Constantinople through dangerous territory with a baby on board and they act like its no big deal. Based Leif is still around though, so there's at least one plus.
Also, Thorkell willing to not duel Thorfinn is extremely out of character for him. Dude loves fighting way too much for that.
William Jackson
I guess Yukimura kind of struggled for a probable scenario on why a woman like Gudrid was able to sail together with her husband to Vinland. He already changed the fact that Gudrid was a widow before she met Thorfinn unless he decided to marry her off to someone else first.
He could have just take the route that it's normal for women to become sailors in Iceland and Greenland because in history, Leif's sister also sailed to Vinland. So it shouldn't be that uncommon for women to be sailors in that part of world.
Justin Parker
I guess Gudrid's confession charmed him?
Brandon Watson
Thorfinn is his grand-nephew. Thorkell always has a soft spot for him.
Camden Myers
I mean... that's still a bit iffy? Thorkell was ready to tear one of his own guy's head off when he interrupted his duel with Thorfinn earlier.
Wait what? Really?
Colton Phillips
Yeah, you don't have a problem with women. You just have a problem with women that aren't completely passive background characters. Got it.
Also if you haven't noticed, Gurdrid is kind of an idiot so your assumption that she's just suddenly going to learn greek is borne out of nothing but your projected insecurities.
Isaac Brown
>I never complained about women in off screen background roles
>I only complain about ones with primary roles
Yeah ok lad. Most of the Male characters are cartoonishly bad.
Matthew Nguyen
By earlier you mean years ago
Xavier Jenkins
>Yeah, you don't have a problem with women. You just have a problem with women that aren't completely passive background characters.
Nothing wrong with that. At least in this role their presence won't make the story actively worse.
Oliver Fisher
Askeladd/Thorfinn and such were interesting because they worked together while still being enemies and Einar and Thorfin were good friends but everybody else was against them and they were fucked for being slaves, now everybody is friends with each other or becomes a friend and the few guys who are still enemies are slowly turning into comedic relief.
Joshua Torres
>Wait what? Really?
Read again, it's revealed when they first fight.
Luis Gray
They're bound to run into more trouble in Constantinople and Vinland itself
Kayden Campbell
>there's nothing wrong with pretending to not have an issue with female characters until someone literally presses you on it.
Have sex.
Hunter Barnes
>You just have a problem with women that aren't completely passive background characters
No I don't retard. I fucking love Ylfa and I loved Cjaskar before she became dump. I hate Gudrid because she feels like some fanserive shit out of a funny moe show not a VS character and she causes problems for the crew all the time and yet the author shoves her down out throats and we are supposed to love her because she BLUSHES and is "moe".
Kevin Powell
Did you miss the whole bit where he explained that Thorfinn is actually pretty much Jomsviking royalty during the fight and that Helga is his niece?
After the duel is over it's pretty clear that Thorkell is ecstatic that not only did Thors truly escape the Jomsvikings before his true death but that he also has a son who is a capable warrior. The only thing he was disappointed in was his eyes, and after the timeskip that has been remedied. It seems clear that while he disagrees with Thorfinn and thinks of him as a punk kid, he has a lot of love for him.
Jason Adams
>Implying I'm the same poster as
Dilate.
Dominic Evans
The inane moralfaggotry of Farmland is fucking killing me, what is this, Kenshin?
Mason Rogers
Thorkell hasn't changed much. Did you forget him screaming his love for war in the middle of the Jomsviking fight? Though its not outside of the realm of possibility that he might have grown a slight soft spot. He does respect the hell out of Thorfinn too.
That last part of your post is what is getting to me. The feeling is that Thorfinn's merry band is going to take on all these hard challenges and beat it through the power of near slapstick comedy without serious fighting because lol Thorfinn isn't supposed to fight. Or maybe we'll see him do some unarmed stuff, idk.
I'm due for a re-read in the time between episodes, as I mentioned above I'm keen to re-read farmland because I think I missed the message the first time around.
Bentley Morris
Whatever Snake did that had him running from the Varangians is going to come back and bite Thorfinn in the ass.
Jack Clark
Well guess you forget because it's revealed a long time ago in the Prologue arc, but the previous leader of Jomsvikings was Thorkell's brother and Helga's (Thorfinn's mom) father. So Helga is Thorkell's niece, which she married Thors (which Thorkell admired and respect). Even in his war-obsessed mind he considered Thorfinn as family.
But then Vinland Saga is actually how almost everyone in the story has a soft spot for Thorfinn lol.
Gavin Morales
I have not yet found out what the appeal of this shonen is, so I have not yet watched any of the episodes.
Isaac Walker
They haven't even left Denmark in the manga yet and have to pass all of Kievan Rus before that.
Benjamin Lee
It's basically Viking Naruto.
Henry Torres
Gotcha, I fucked up there.
Zachary Perez
>causes problems for the crew
It's called conflict user, it's why the story exists.
>I like all these unimportant background characters!
>I also only like women who know their place huehuehue!
I think that was his point brainlet. You dont appreciate any actual female characters. Ones with an actual presence get shit from you because they exist. If they arent YOUR preference of female characrers they are bad which is bullshit.
Camden Allen
You know what, sure, let's leave Gudrid out of the story! it's not like she's anyway relevant.
Ethan Watson
flashback start, i wanted Thorfin teenager
Josiah Evans
I hate so much how common this became on this board. No matter what I discuss people always argue by quoting arguments some other guy made because they assume that everybody who disagrees with them or agrees with someone else is the same damn person. I didn't notice it being that common 5+ years ago but maybe I just forgot.
Lincoln Hall
How does this compare to masterpieces like H×H?
Landon Green
Nobody was complaining that she is female strawman fag, people complain about her personality and shenanigans and the vibes the whole arc is giving off.
Alexander Reed
A bit worse.
Easton Collins
>I hate strong female characters!
Its like you idiots have never read a makoto yukimura manga before. Get used to it or leave.
Jason Cruz
Again, nobody said that. Read what people say and argue against that if you can.
Charles Sanchez
>nobody said that.
But they thought it.
Samuel Morgan
Yeah at this point I don't really mind about people complaining about Hild and Gudrid because the character writing for both of them aren't the usual quality like before.
But then Yukimura might really aiming for a slice of life feel with the trip to Vinland cause he's tired of all that violence in the previous arcs. He did purposely held back from going all in with despair for the Jomsvikings arc. Both Thorfinn and Sigurd's crews didn't suffer any deaths even with the fight, that kind of unrealistic at this point.
Jaxson Jones
I love when worthless ESL posters try to talk about things they're ignorant about. The most amusing part is when they actually think anyone gives a fuck about their retarded opinions.
Connor Brooks
Every fucking thread is filled with posts about how hild and gudrid have ruined the manga by existing. And I think I make a much more compelling argument than the sad, tired responses of
>t. roastie
>Dilate
Hudson Clark
you are clearly complaining because she's a woman.
it's fine when askeladd was a funny lad. and you're too afraid to complain about the strong independent norwegian genious inventor chick to show how not bothered you are.
Zachary Hughes
Go away.
Oliver Collins
I could argue against this but I won't post any real life shit and it wouldn't convince you anyway.
Brayden James
Are they still going to the Mediterranean?
Jacob Taylor
one thing in particular that is not very good at all despite other things being done pretty well in the adaptation are the fucking terribly drawn swords. the manga was decently close to the real sizes and proportions of the historical weapons, and then the fucking animators turn them all into these retarded blocky oversized toy things, and all the blades are like 3 times too thick to be good for cutting anything in addition to already being comically broad
Camden Davis
Daily reminder that we will get a 7 years long boat arc after this shit.
Jace Parker
Seething & envious.
Camden Bell
The only complaint I have is Hild. Her one track mind makes sense in universe because she's only known Thorfinn for a winter and the events of the latest arc takes place in a very short amount of time. The battle is only 1 night while there is a week or two of travel.
But as a reader seeing Hild bitch to Thorfinn and keep saying she'll kill him for 36 months was just too goddamn much.
James Morgan
So far it looks ok. We will have to wait until the big fights to see if the CGI can actually carry it´s weight.
Oliver Morgan
I kinda like her as a character, or let's say, I think she has potential, but I hate what the author does with her, which is basically nothing. She's just Thorfinn's angry shadow that threatens to kill him as soon as he makes a wrong move.
Jordan Young
Welcome to nu-4channel. It's all about who posts the best bait to make the autists and trannies seethe.
You thought this board is about anime? Discord users (jannies) disagree.
Carson Cook
Envious of what? You being a complete retard?
Leo Gomez
The author's intentions with her are obvious. Have her thaw, realize her own backstory where her dad was once a ruthless viking himself, maybe even sacrifice herself for an innocent or perhaps Thorfinn. But yeah right now she's a one note angry shadow.
Andrew Morgan
Okay, how much time is reasonable to start trusting the man responsible for murdering your father right in front of you?
Wait, this sounds familiar? It's almost like the main character didn't forgive or trust the man who killed HIS father for an entire decade?
Thomas Diaz
>He did purposely held back from going all in with despair for the Jomsvikings arc
But why? It takes away some of the gravity of the action.
Andrew Watson
No shit? Hence why I said it is reasonable. It still doesn't make it any less annoying now that it's on the opposite end. And on screen, Thorfinn wasn't filling all his page time talking about how he would kill Askeladd and sticking by him like glue. It was clearly eating him up inside and he kept blaming him for shit Askeladd probably wasn't responsible for, but Thorfinn did things besides try to kill him.
Charles Cox
I wonder if any protag will ever die again in this. You never knew before save for Thorfinn and it made it interesting, but I cannot imagine this now anymore, the whole series became "family friendly".
Christopher Nelson
I also feel like Yukimura tried to overcompensate for the humor by having like 4 separate instances where the message was WAR IS BAD.
>old man talking about retiring from raiding and giving up Valhalla in favor of seeing his grandchild. Gets squished by a rock.
>Jomsviking sees his brother on the opposite side and tries to get his attention with a warning shot that has a personal token. Ends up killing him before being shot to death himself.
>Prisoner laments that he did nothing worthwhile and all he did was rape, kill, eat and repeat before being executed
>warrior dying in battle welcomes the Valkyries only for everything to go dark and he realizes all his efforts were useless and Valhalla is a lie
>Two survivors from opposite ends share bread and watch the sunrise as they're just so tired from the fight the idea of a victor doesn't matter.
All of these moments are pretty well written. But having all of them appear in one arc feels excessive.
Jace Gonzalez
>her dad was once a ruthless viking himself, maybe even sacrifice herself for an innocent or perhaps Thorfinn
That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Hild is the personification of Thorfinn's guilt and you think you can just absolve that with an 'oh everybody did it so its fine' excuse? Are you that desperate to make the viking's actions acceptable?
Justin Hughes
>now that it's on the opposite end.
More like one that you are reading the chapters as they come out .
Xavier Powell
her obsession for the man killing his father.
not the bullshittery genius inventor shit?
Jose Martinez
Hardly. The takeaway should be that Hild's father was a monster who gave it up to raise a good family and tried to make amends. Just like Thors and what Thorfinn is trying to do now. That the only way to break the cycle of violence isn't then to fight the killers of ones parents but to honestly leave it behind and try to make up for it. Save more lives than killed, build more homes than destroyed.
This doesn't mean that the Vikings' actions are good but rather they are awful but still not beyond redemption. The message that both Canute and Thorfinn have realized.
Thomas Martinez
Just like Berserk, everything after the Prologue is utter shit.
Berserk ended after Griffith's betrayal
Vinland ended after King's assassination
Everything after that is a glorified JRPG fantasy fanfiction.
Jonathan Moore
Nah because the series also made it clear that despite all her talent in making better tools for the common man, that she also gave it up in favor of building a better bow in the pursuit of vengeance and trying to follow Thorfinn's previous of creed of the weak being beaten by the strong.
Also main characters being a snowflake is pretty meh to me.
Juan Ward
Peak shit-taste. Berserk peaked waaay after golden-age,with the milennium falcon arc.
Christian Cooper
God you have shit taste.
Ethan Lee
LUCIUS

William Jones
Thorfinn realizes his debt is much more than what could ever be repaid by any action though. He's building a land in vinland because its a positive step and better than nothing, but he realizes nothing he could ever do would bring back what he's taken. There is no redemption here, only penance.
Hild won't leave until Thorfinn's guilt is gone, which will never happen, so she's in for the long haul. If you're biding your time till she kicks the bucket you're wasting your time.
Benjamin Myers
long live the king!
Hudson Gomez
If Sigurd can develop from a comic relief character to an actual person with dreams, I don't doubt that Hild going to be developed over time. It's just at this point Hild's development is being paused in favour of all that Jomsvikings shenanigans.
Samuel Gomez
Envious of the masterful way HxH seamlessly weaves philosophical and esoteric concepts into its complex and multi-layered narrative full of rich commentary and character development. I guess I can't expect everything else to hold up.
Gavin Edwards
>but he realizes nothing he could ever do would bring back what he's taken
When does this realization come? During the farm arc or when he meets Hild?
William Butler
Nice one,why don't you pull more of these template based copypastas from your shitposting folder, whisperkek.
Josiah Walker
I believe it's during the Farm Arc. Don't know the exact chapter unfortunately.
Benjamin Harris
>ywn see Bjorn, Thors and Askeladd leading a viking group
Jaxson Thomas
>If you're biding your time till she kicks the bucket you're wasting your time
Says who? Are you Yukimura? She's not one of the "protected" characters like Thorfinn and Gudrid are, so her fate is left up to Yukimura entirely. I do think she'll die when they finally reach Vinland and it'd be fitting for her character arc. Her constantly following Thorfinn while being a bitter cunt 24/7 and threatening him with her toy over the dumbest shit is bogging down the narrative. As of right now she doesn't need to be in the plot.
Cooper Sanchez
>he thinks we're all stupid enough to need copypastas in order to illustrate our points
HxH is a manga that will only be appreciated by those with a sufficiently high intellect. Other shit like this tries to imitate Togashi's flawless storytelling method and superb crafting of metaphysics that are so well thought-out they almost seem like they could be real. These imitators ALWAYS fail miserably.
Easton Foster
And she's not just going to die unfulfilled just because you don't like her. We get it, you want Thorfinn to be able to run rampant and do whatever he wants but that's not the story Yukimura is telling anymore. Hild has a legitimate purpose as a moral compass with teeth, keeping Thorfinn in line with his newly adopted philosophy. She's also been given more backstory than any other living character besides Thorfinn himself, so I refuse to believe Yukimura won't make full use of her. It wouldn't even be a sympathetic death at this point, it would only satisfy haters like you.
Hunter Carter
And why shouldn't he?
Charles Ross
Apparently you're all stupid enough, since you replied with yet another pasta. Admit defeat and go home.
Andrew Lee
>pasta
Search the archives, Vikingcuck. When you come up with nothing I can't wait to laugh at you.

Ira a cute.
Jackson Kelly
>Hild has a legitimate purpose as a moral compass with teeth, keeping Thorfinn in line with his newly adopted philosophy
Thorfinn doesn't need anyone keeping him in line though, he should be sticking to his beliefs because he believes in them, not because he has a crossbow to his back. All Hild does is neuter the possibility that Thorfinn might, personally, fail at his ideal and take away the gravitas of his choices.
Ryan Hall
Something about the characters in this feels like they are Japanese larping as Scandinavians, instead of actual scandis. Maybe it's just cause they speak Japanese. I'm not sure.
Xavier Wilson
Best thing I've seen in a while I plan on buying the manga now.
Eli Bailey
>Maybe it's just cause they speak Japanese
Well there you have it.
Blake Hernandez
Yeah but there's something about the mannerisms or the way they act as well. But sure what tho.
Wyatt Rogers
*Not sure
Thomas Richardson
Thorfinn wouldn't have saved those girls from Vagn's men if Hild hadn't been there. He wouldn't even have thought it was a problem.
Ian Russell
The entire thing feels like a samurai story disguising itself as an icelandic saga. Especially considering the obnoxious moralfaggotry.
Oliver King
I'm yet to see a historical manga that didn't draw parallels between japanese customs and the local customs. Most mangakas don't bother spending 50 hours to learn the intricacies of another warrior culture when they can just plop in the samurai equivalent with a new coat of paint, saving time and helping the reader base feel more home at the same time.
Elijah Reyes
I don't know any scandis from the 1010s, do you?
Dominic Hall
Ylfa is a gift, Ira lucked out.
Christopher Collins

Unpopular opinion time:
"Conventionally" well-written, has absolutely no traditional anime archetypes/elements and its subject doesn't even have anything to do with japan.
Vinland Saga should not even be considered a proper anime.
It's like some TV show that just happens to be drawn and have japanese voiceacting. This is for Yea Forums, not Yea Forums.
>inb4 dictionary definitions
There is absolutely nothing, NOTHING about Vinland Saga that makes it anime besides technical definitions. Its spirit is purely 3DPD.
I liked it, but I instantly noticed how the part of the my brain that liked it is the same part that likes regular movies and stuff.
Daniel Long
>it's not anime if there's no lolis

>proper anime.
what the fuck is that? the kind that panders to otaku? since when a "proper anime" have to be like that?
fuck that, anime is literally just animation, a medium
Carson Wright
no lolis, no cute girls in general, no fun manzai humor, no crazy shounen bullshit, no japanese school life, no dokidoki romance, no place for yuri
it's just some japanese TV show that happens to be animated. it's not anime.
Levi Mitchell
The farm arc was the best arc of the manga by far and it's not even close, it paid off on absolutely everything that happened in the prologue and brought the story full circle from a thematic perspective. The baltic war arc has been shit though.
I did really like Gudrid though and felt like her arc was generally well done until the last few chapters.
Caleb Kelly

>you want Thorfinn to be able to run rampant and do whatever he wants
That's not what I said though, how about you learn to read before replying? Also when has she kept Thorfinn in line? When he came face to face with the man responsible for his father's murder and by proxy responsible for nearly everything that's gone wrong in Thorfinn's life and lost control of a moment was it Hild who stopped him? Fuck no, it was Baldur. Thorfinn didn't even acknowledge Hild's existence in that entire scene. When Thorfinn decided to fight Garm unarmed as not to kill him depsite the fact that Garm is a nutcase was it because Hild made him do so? No, he did so of his own violation and didn't even know she was there until after the fight. So tell me what purpose does she serve again?
Logan Ramirez
It was a missed opportunity to have an original epic instrumental song as the OP. Don't know why they always slapped a J-rock /pop song for historical period anime OP like Arslan Senki and Dororo. Only Akatsuki no Yona did it right with having that great instrumental OP.
Noah Stewart
It happens with every manga, the threads will never be the same. They will start forcing their facebook tier or normalfag memes that will keep spamming every single damn thread plus "claiming" the first posts with their shit, derailing every single discussion with their new meme of the month and shit like that.

>implying that has anything to do with context here
Nigga, also Vargarians would immediately switch allegiance to the next Emperor.
Xavier Harris
>Byzantines
You mean Greeks
Luis Bennett
I'm very confused by your post. Why wouldn't it have anything to do with the context? it was a comment about a picture titled varangians.jpg.
Also, switching allegiance to the next emperor was a good thing. They were trying to avoid what happened with the praetorian guard, where the guard was too political and overthrew emperors they didn't like.
Blake Gomez
>snowniggers chimp out in Byzantine lands until the Byzantines make trade deals with them
>some more adventurous ones then decide to join the Byzantine military as mercenaries and eventually effectiveness and isolation from politics and internal affairs of the Byzantine senate makes them ideal bodyguards for the Emperors and their generals
>This soon sours because despite making personal oaths of loyalty, they would immediately stop giving their lives for money and honor the moment the Emperor croaks or is killed
They weren't much different from late Praetorian Guards of the Principate Rome. Also pretty sure that user was referring to how the Eastern Romans basically copied the Persians. Then again there's also a certain uniformity in Indo-Europeans when it comes to armors in the late Classical age to the Great Migration era.
After all the Romans were historically primarily strong in infantry and relied mainly on auxiliaries and levied or allied/client people to supply them with proper heavy cavalry, by the end of the final Persian-Roman war, the Eastern Romans military heavily resembled the Persians own one and vice versa.

To be fair, the Roman army was distinguished by its ability to adapt to the circumstances. Early Rome fought with hoplite-esque troops in the Greek style, which was replaced by the Polybian legion later on which borrowed some ideas from Rome's Samnite and Celtic foes, with the late republic and empire using the Marian legion which was centered around the idea of every infantryman being more or less interchangeable (which is useful if you have a massive empire with far spread borders). The Eastern Romans copying the Persians, their most formidable foe, is very much in line with this.

Why did they decide to open the show with Thors faking his death instead of Askeladd's crew carrying warships on their backs to siege a fort? I feel like there was a strong impact in knowing Thorfinn wanted revenge on Askeladd and then seeing why instead of the other way around. Plus it would've made for a much better first episode.

Because it wouldnt have been as powerful for the anime to use flashbacks instead of linear storytelling to tell Thorfinn's story. What worked for one medium would not nesessarily work for another.
Daniel Wood
Its just like in my vietnamese porn scrolls.
Bentley Evans
They're expected to show up during Basil II's reign. The Battle of Kleidion has already occured in the Vinland Saga timeline so you wont be witnessing the mass blinding unless the author intentionally shifts events from their proper point in history. The only thing going on otherwise is Nikephoros Xiphias' abortive revolt and Basil fighting in Georgia. The Byzantine adventure should be quiet for the most part.
Jonathan Thompson

tbf the only reason why madhouse made a Kiseijuu anime was to advertise the live action movies
(they did the same with Kaiji).
If you really want to imagine how bad a Historie anime could be, they'll probably do the Berserk Golden Age Trilogy method
>chop up the story to fit into 3ish movies
>80% Cg with 20% hand drawn
>Tease a continuation but never follow through and let someone else do it
Lincoln Bennett
never
Eli Rodriguez
And it would be the best case scenario
Ian Perry
>Because it wouldnt have been as powerful for the anime to use flashbacks instead of linear storytelling
And why do you feel that way exactly? They could have used the first episode for the siege and then done the next 3/4 episodes as flashback. It could work exactly the same way as the manga and would be just as good as the manga instead of what we got. They could've blown their load with a really well animated opening episode to get people hooked instead of starting with a slow paced opening.
Liam Ward
Yes. Never as long as Hild exist. Out of all characters, Hild is definitely my least favorite character considering how self righteous the bitch, not to mention how Thorfinn is prostrating to her.
Cameron Peterson
Viking is a job not a people, retard.
Blake Fisher
He wouldn't do it even if Hild's head exploded in the next chapter. The author isn't going to erase 100 chapters of character development just like that. He even managed not to kill Floki so it should be easy from here on out

>No cute girls in general
But Vinland saga is full of cute girls (and cute boys).
The ratio is even higher in the anime since they made Helga look younger.
The manga is less cute in general but it still has cute background and support characters here and there.

Nope, prepare for the wild and wacky hijinks of Thorfinn's merry band down to Constantinople.
Cooper Russell
I wont bother anymore with that shit. Dont make a manga about vikings in vinland it you need 30 years to reach it. Planetes was just fine with its lenght, dunno why the author went full autism
Dylan Adams
>prepare for the wild and wacky hijinks of Thorfinn's merry band down to Constantinople.
can't fucking wait
there's so much shit they could cover once they get to Constantinople, especially since the events of Vinland Saga take place during Basil II's reign
Julian Gray
Ah, so it's a ripoff?
Ayden Nelson
But that would go against history, since the sagas say that Thorfinn was a merchant
Elijah Roberts
I'm immune to sunk cost fallacy, so technically yes. I still read it, but on speedreading mode while in search for the next cute "girl".

How will anime only fags react to second season?

You can't just preface a factually wrong statement with "it's an unpopular opinion", this is either bait or this post was legit left by a cumbrain on legs, a bunch of imported Korean workers in Japan could be animating a historical show about the African Songhai Empire and it would still be anime.

As a general rule of thumb, the more replies and cries of "bait" a post attracts, the more deeply true it probably is.
Seems like I struck a nerve with . You fuckers all know that, on some level, I am RIGHT. Vinland Saga is so obviously different from "regular" anime and its appeal is so broad that you can't simply ignore it, but for whatever reason you must. You suppress this simple truth. But there goes a single child who dares to point out the emperor has no clothes and y'all get apoplectic.
But... why? What do you get from pretending the Vinland Saga isn't plainly DIFFERENT from other anime? It doesn't mean you can't discuss it on Yea Forums. Liking it doesn't invalidate your Official Anime Fan membership card. Just face up the truth and accept it.
Wyatt Baker

>look at all these (You)s I have, that must mean I'm right!
What you just said is in fact, so wrong even you're taking a few steps back already without even admitting it.
You first say that because it's different and not something of the mainstrem that it shouldn't even be considered "proper anime", because well... in many ways it just doesn't fit into the notion of contemporary mainstream anime (which is a darn good thing, but that's just an opinion), but that's just factually wrong going by the definition of anime everyone with half a brain cell knows it, you know it too, now you say "well it is anime but it's just different".
>This is for Yea Forums, not Yea Forums.
>It doesn't mean you can't discuss it on Yea Forums
How about owning up to a small Anonymous dumbassery instead of dancing around it.
It's fine to say you're not used to something but invalidating it's categorisation as what it is is because you're not used to it is just stupid, let me quote you.
>no lolis, no cute girls in general, no fun manzai humor, no crazy shounen bullshit, no japanese school life, no dokidoki romance, no place for yuri
You also say it's not anime which you also took your word back on but let's leave it at that.
All that can be applied to actual tons of Seinen manga and anime and even outside of Seinen, there's plenty who have none of that simply yet no one would argue against those not being anime or manga or even "proper" anime or manga because it's not something you yourself, consume.
You're just saying something stupid for controversy, perhaps even you believed it for a second because of your warped view of what is and isn't anime and manga but there really is nothing profound about your statements that you can pride yourself on.
Sebastian Miller
>Moeshitter realizes how stupid he sounded so he backpedaled his argument.
That's just embarrassing.
Michael Ward
He did plenty wrong, but just like every other human being in existence he was a victim of circumstance. At least he decided to die for a good cause, I like farmland saga more than the prologue but the way Askeladd ended that part of the story is one of the single most based things a manga character has ever done.
Benjamin Ramirez
How many episodes until England?
Nicholas Gonzalez
How can something be a rippoff of it when HxH is already a soulless derivative of Yu Yu Hakusho
Isaac Nelson
I'd give it 4 more episodes
>Thors vs Askeladd
>Thorfinn learning to kill and betraying peasants
>Battle between Frank's
>Duel with Askeladd during winter then sleeping it off on his dad's ship
Should take about 4 episodes to cover all those events.
Mason Barnes
Its been a while but do we see Thorfinn kill Hilda's dad early on or is that added later in the series after his redemption?
Leo Lopez
It's added later. They could change it for the anime though
Julian Price
great anime
so good made me read the manga i am at chapter 45 and i feel cheated
i tought the prince was going to be a reverse trap but its actually a boy, i was waiting for thorfinn to dick her but he became masculine so its obviously not a girl pretending to be a boy
fuck he was way cuter before his epyphany bullshit

well what was he going to do
force puberty to never happen?

i expected to be a reverse trap i am just sad
i hope thorfinn gets a wife as cute as prince used to be
