He turned down training to be there for his wife when she was due to give birth. He became blue out of jealousy because everyone was holding the baby. And he obviously read up on properly holding a baby since he knew how to do it and instructed Trunks on it. He's putting up a front but the guy loves his wife and children more than anything else. Goku knows this and uses it against him every time he needs to motivate Vegeta or just to piss him off.
It's a complete 180 from ignoring Bulma when she had Trunks and even ignoring the older version of his son. But when Trunks died Vegeta took it really hard.
