Just finished Darker Than Black...

Just finished Darker Than Black. I saw a couple episodes of it years ago and liked it but stopped watching it for some reason, It wasn't until now that I gave it another go. Gave me some nostalgia and a bunch of sad feels, partly because of the content, mostly because of remembering the time I had first watched it. Huang is an awesome character btw, RIP to a real one

It's okay, but it's a sequel that does sequel things instead of just being more of the first season. The main reason I think it gets so much shit is because they didn't release the OVAs that explained what happened between S1 and 2 until after 2 finished airing. Watch those first and it's not nearly as jarring.

Gotcha. I'll watch those before S2

But

I watched it after the OVAs, to me it felt like a potentially worthy sequel wasted by lack of time and a shoestring budget
it's not Erased's ending tier of rushed mess though, ust a 6/10 continuation of a 10/10 first season

Yeah I can see it being pretty hard to live up to the first season. I want to see how my pure boy Hei does after everything though

There was no season 2

>I want to see how my pure boy Hei
THERE WAS NO SEASON 2

If youre dying for more content like i was it's worth watching. Its not nearly as good but It's still dtb

It's just the sheer bizarreness of "they could have made literally anything for season 2, and they chose THIS?" Absolutely baffling.

i unironically loved s2 more than s1, but i am admittedly an an alcoholic loli lover.

It is so bad it doesn't exist kind of bad.

I'm glad I saw these collarbones. I also enjoyed the noir detective episodes.

Now I've lost it

I know I can Kill.

This guy is absolutely correct. It didn't help that the interesting characters died so quickly. X-men, one of whom is eminently hot? Dead so soon that it isn't even worth a spoiler. Averaca-- headsplotion. Same deal, killed by a lameass who should've ate it first.

The story focus was just bonkers. Who gives a fuck about Evil Baker's lame son and his creepy crush? I could have seriously gone without that part. I only watched that part in the hopes that he would die. I like to imagine he chocked on his fucking cake Watering down Contractors in general was done in a unappealing way that I didn't believe. The list of crazy choices just goes on and on...

Think of all the cool stuff and things people liked about the first season. You have them in mind? Good, now spend the first two episodes writing them out of the series. The rest of the season is dull as shit and rather than a bunch of episodic episodes that lead into a greater plot they try to have a ongoing plot from the start but meander around and take forever to do move it along. And then the ending is an absolute clusterfuck of rushed plot points that basically just make everything that happened all season pointless.

Good thing this is all theoretical and S2 doesn't actually exist.

I don't remember much now, but I remember thinking S2 was okay. Completely different than S1 but I still enjoyed it. The OVAs are really nice with the Hei and Yin moments though.

I just started rewatching season 1 and i must say, the dialogue is horrible and the way they try to tell the story sucks ass in every possible way. Did these niggers even go to film scgool or google ''how to tell a story''? Fuck this edgelord piece of shit and every 12 year old faggot who defends this.

The second season was good enough, but the OVAs were just terrible. They're still not as lighthearted as S2, but already too action-based and flamboyant to be like S1. The main antagonist being a wannabe Joker with blatantly overpowered abilities is the lowest point of the series as a whole. Fuck the OVAs, man.

>Second season
>good enough
Your bad taste has inspired me. Guess I'll have to check out those awesome OVAs.

Yeah, I like memes too! Tsukihime anime never ever, right, bro?
S2 is a good road movie with a stupid plot, just like Gun x Sword or Scrapped Princess. It really has no special flaws doing what it wants to do, so why not call it a good enough anime? The only shit points S2 has are it not being as good as S1 and the fucking Izanagi/Izanami plot (which is 99% of the OVAs).

reminder season 2 and the OVA's are literally not canon the second manga was written retcon all of it

The OVAs at least tell an actually plot-driven story, although a willingly truncated one: season 2 is just Okada's usual style of "writing down the premise of a plot as a push for the character arcs which are the point of it all". Thing is, the OVAs came out at the same time as s2 so no one could really tell what the fuck was happening -and 90% of the plot is badly rushed in the last ten minutes of the last episode like AND THEN YIN AWAKENED AS IZANAMI BUT NOT REALLY AND MET THE RUSSIAN BROTHER WHO WAS REALLY IZANAGI AND STARTED MAKING A NEW WORLD ABSORBING SOULS FOR THE RUSSIAN SISTERS BUT THEN SORT OF STOPPED AND HEI SORT OF RESCUED YIN AND HALTED THE APOCALYPSE AND FUCKED OFF TO WHO KNOWS WHERE BUT WE'RE GOING TO LEAVE EVERYTHING VAGUE AND UNCLEAR LOL
Not to mention how cheesy it was to make the main character be a representative for the "are contractors really human" -but actually "are clones really human" -but actually "are copied memories in a r63 cloned body really human" was super dumb.

The manga is incredibly good but it only covers like the first year after S1. Aside from the very end where the cute officer dismantles the Syndicate, all of it could fit in the OVAs/s2 timeline.

You can talk shit about season 2 all day, but that soundtrack is fucking great.

Does real women actually find men's collarbone attractive?

Why does it matter?

He has less than a 10th of his usual Chinese Batman-ness in S2.
OVAs are decent but a lot of the potential action is sidetracked by dopey impotent drama.

You don't know that kind of bad until you've seen a certain other season 2 that will not be named.

It's not memes. Yes, sometimes Yea Forums mistakes "decent but clearly inferior to its predecessor" for bad, like Psycho Pass. However, Darker than Black is not the case. S2 entirely relies on the characterizations and plot points seeded on S1 and the Ova series (which by the way STILL wasn't out when S2 aired) to get the story going, except what really gets developed is the Russian loli and the story ends by squashing its climax in the last episode and even has the gall to leave it open.
The story can't stand on its two feet because it treats the Izanami/Izanagi stuff as an afterthought, with the Russian loli's story being forced to tie with it while it really should've been independent.
>road movie
Don't they spend most of the episodes by staying in one place except like 2? GunxSword and Scrapped Princess have a good reason to be on the road and lessons about humanity are learned throughout the various places the MCs visit. What's the lesson learned in DtB 2? "It's okay for your dad to crossdress"?
What happened to contractors and dolls fundamentally losing contact with their humanity and emotions if Russian loli and that boy doll are only slightly jaded anyway? Why even have her be a contractor if the real thing that has her question her humanity is being a failed clone?

NOW I'VE LOST IT, I KNOW I CAN KILL
