It had the potential to be one of the greatest works of fiction ever written, but why did it fail so terribly in the second half once the groundwork was laid?
It had the potential to be one of the greatest works of fiction ever written...
I felt insecure when Kaneki got laid so this considerably diminished my enjoyment of the series
Did you self-insert Kaneki? Wtf..??
Not even that, it just felt bad.
He was tired of writing it and tired of his editor
meh I didn't hate it
Burnout
It's just badly confusing. Furuta's this weird villain who doesn't have much of a motivation, and he just runs around trolling everyone. The bizarre revelation that Arima and everyone else at CCG are not-quite-half-Ghouls, and subsequent stuff like the absolutely vilest characters all turning over a new life? That's weird as shit.
Like, the first time we see, I dunno, Shuu, he's a sadistic gay idolator. By the end of the series, he's 100% a good guy, ignoring that he used to run a club where people were dismembered and eaten. While he got off on it.
Or the evil scientist shooting himself in the head, so - conveniently - no-one important actually had to die. Or the child soldiers who rolled deep into battle on bicycles with razor-bladed wheels, to the point that even Kaneki seemed bewildered. Or Kaneki transforming into a titanic monster after a bout of cannibalism.
Or Rise / Rize just dying without ever really recovering from her torture and breakdown, with Kaneki's conversations with her being held entirely in his head. It's just so bizarre.
Kinda wanted to subvert your expectations to the point that he ran out of characters so he had to bring some back but completely mishandled them like amon. Honestly he should've made Urie the MC after the Rose arc since there was actually somewhere to go with his character
Haise's hair should've been done like this instead of random black hair in the middle of his scalp.
Cause it had a sequel to make dish. If it ended "open ended" and there was no part 2. Or at least RE: didn't involve the characters of the original it could've been amazing. Hell a whole story with the Q's only for kaneki to show up as some quad S owl type figure would've been kino compared to what we got.
>It had the potential to be one of the greatest works of fiction ever written
It never had you retard. KEK
For me I starting to check out during cochlea/rue, ishida clearly got way too ahead of himself and thought he could do two entire arcs at once, which clearly he couldn't. The result was plenty of interesting side characters and their stories which had lingered since pt 1 or early re were designated a single chapter each and settled in rushed fights. Then I have no idea what he was thinking with the clown arc, it was just so pointless. They fought the clowns but everyone still believed kaneki was behind it despite seeing goat fight the clowns. And the only goal for goat was to save akira? Also, after kaneki regained the will to live and defeated arima his character shouldnt have regressed to happy go lucky kuroneki and acted like he was so innocent. He shouldve retained some seriousness from black reaper but just less edge. And kaneki vs furuta shouldve been a back and forth chess match, not a 70 chapter trollfest with furuta fucking around doing whatever he wants with kaneki watching and refusing to counter for whatever reason, only having kaneki turn the tables in like the last couple chapters. Regardless though, it was still the most entertainment i ever got from manga on a weekly basis and idt anything will ever replace it for me, which is why the quality dip was so disappointing.
I still can't get over how he treated Eto.
The most bizzarre pat was that she was clearly a character he invested so much thought and time into, then as soon as furuta was introduced it was like ishida got so distracted by his new shiny toy that he forgot all about her.
>It's been a year since the manga ended
He just flat out didn't know what to do with her, he couldn't even kill her properly.
Fucking what? Shit feels like 2 years minimum.
Eto was a character made for the original series, she didn't fit in re. Lots of things didn't fit in re.
>It had the potential to be one of the greatest works of fiction ever written
It still is one of the greatest.

I forgot how retarded tokyo ghoul fans were
