But then shinji came in, with unit 01, a clone of lilith. And was so deep in his goal and dominant over the angel. That HE actually got "the wish" out of the giant naked rei.
And then Kaworu comes down and stops it, locking shinji into a core, and then starts his own giant naked rei thing? What the fuck is going on.

Also, one of the original main writers (Akio Satsukawa, who wrote/co-wrote some top tier episodes like 15, 19, 21, 24) seems to have had a marginal role in the first two Rebuilds and from what I can gather is completely absent in 3.0.
The original show was always a jont effort to keep enough autism in check and now it's flowing everywhere

I think in NGE, majority of the episodes were dealing with learning the EVAs were actually human. The later episodes were going as fast as they can to throw out they're the next level of human evolution. Then EoE comes in and drops the absolute ball on it's an evolution of the EVAs at the price of those that come before it, and they're going to be Gods.

Rebuild jumps immediately into the EVAs are the next evolution immediately. All the "evas are human" is just ignored because we all know that. Anno is going hard into all the different ways the evolution will happen. Now it's an insane post apocalyptic world, 4x over. It's anyones game, and the story now is. Humans are merely bringing about their own extinction just to be instrumental in whatever future they have no way to predict.
Or something.

I always thought Eva 2.0 was a statement of how Anno felt better than in the 90s, giving it a more hopeful tone, and if Eva was Anno's soul, it was a way to make the story go into a healthier route.
Then 3.0 happened and it got as sad as it could ever get again. I dunno what to expect of 3.0+1.0

I'm expecting everyone going insane to reach the movie's deadline, so it might end up being a glorious clusterfuck.
