Why are anime fans so prone to self-inserting into characters?

Don't you have anything better to do on a Monday Morning?

Because anime fans are fucking losers? Get a refund for that psychology degree.

I have nausea so not really.

>I have nausea
How come? Hangover? Ate something that didn't sit well? Too much dick sucking perhaps?

its typical of most people to do this even with their friends and family members, they don't empathize, they project, but they can't stand their own reality and have a delusional image of themselves instead, and so the are delusional about everything else too

We had barbeque on Saturday. Probably something didn't sit well. Had only 1 beer so it is definitely not hangover.

lurk for 2 years before posting, newnigger

Anime "fans", sure.

There is very little to see on this board as 90% of threads are just people obsessing over cute girls (doing cute things).

What is the difference between self-inserting as a character and rooting for a character? What are the fundamental distinctions of self-inserting?

Having a certain level of escapism in anime is of great importance for sure, but I've never really understood how anyone can "self-insert" just seems like something someone who is completely out of touch with reality would do.

Do you identify as that character and experience the story from the character's perspective (regardless of narrator)?
If you answer no, then you are not self inserting.

I am literally Homura.

What does self inserting mean, can you explain that please? I legit don't know.
And how do you know what other people thing?

If something sad happends to a character isn't it natural to feel that sadness?

See .
OP's image is misleading. You are not comparing the protagonist and yourself. If you have ever played a video game (like, for example, Skyrim), you are not telling yourself that your character is like you because you can do magic too.
You are just enjoying your (character's) ability to blast people with lightning and fire.

That's more Jotaro

Self-inserting Homufags ruined the fandom

That doesn't make sense. By that logic it's impossible to "self insert" as the protagonist because that's who the narrative follows and who's perspective is shown. But MCs are called self inserts all the time.

Aren't you supposed to think about what events in a story mean to the different characters and how it might affect them.

I still don't get it but comparing it to a game seems kinda weird. In a game you roleplay and parttake but for an anime you just watch and consume.

>By that logic it's impossible to "self insert" as the protagonist because that's who the narrative follows and who's perspective is shown.
How so? I think you are misunderstanding something somewhere.
>In a game you roleplay and parttake but for an anime you just watch and consume.
With self-inserting, you are basically a passive player. Imagine it like an endless cinematic cutscene like they are popular in those horrible newish games. It's you, you just can't control the character.

I think there are two different self-insert situations.
One, and the more common complaint, is MCs with qualities losers can empathize or identify with.
The other is actual cases of people self-inserting, where they view everything through the eyes of a character and either project their own personality onto it, or absorb parts of the characters personality.

>But MCs are called self inserts all the time.
Incorrectly, mostly. Because most people using the term use it as just another buzzword. What they are talking about is the trend of writers to produce bland protagonists because those are "relatable" (not self-insertable) for a larger audience.

As you can see in this very thread, many people have no idea what self-inserting might mean. And that is a general trend that you can see in many threads. My theory is that it's because most people cannot self-insert.
And then there is a minority to whom it comes naturally.

Because we have empathy.

Get well soon user

>MC is a feeble and disgusting coward
He is made for self-inserts because otakus are feeble!
>MC is a usual person without distinguishing traits
He is so standard to make more watchers self-insert into him!
>MC is insanely overpowered brave demigod
He is created for self-inserts to make otakus feel better!

Closest i get to self-inserting is
>God i wish that was me
When reading shota doujinshi

Proud nambla member?

Because they're just like me
But they're a bit weaker

That's what anime (and life) is for.

>nambla
Never even heard of it.
Also
>Conflating 2D with 3D
Additionally
>Not realizing i want to be the shota getting ara ara'd

That's only true if you filter the WSJ-niggers plaguing the board.

>Not realizing i want to be the shota getting ara ara'd
Man of culture.

At least they discuss anime and not "I want to marry X!"

Play Ochiru Hitozuma if you haven't already.

What killed the hype?;

I am 99% convinced that self-inserting is a meme that's exclusively used to strawman the fuck out of anyone people disagree with.
I can certainly see empathizing with a character because you made some similar experiences, but who the fuck unironically goes "yep, literally me"?

Why can't I find this on panda?

Check the "show expunged galleries" box. Lilith-soft actually tries to enforce their copyright.

Thanks.

self inserting is dumb

Why are people who consume fiction so prone to self-inserting into characters?

Excelent taste

You're the one who seems upset
