Rewatch evangelion

>rewatch evangelion
>the coffee mug hypothesis just gets more and more likely

Everyone notices that directly after Ritsuko gets shot by Gendo, Rei appears. But the screen transition right after that flashes a broken coffee mug on the screen for just a moment. What does it mean?

it's ritsuco's cup and she's dead, so it's broken
i mean, it's a fucking cup

Doesn't Misato give up alcohol by the end of the series and start drinking lots of coffee, instead?

Hmm...

After years of avoiding Evangelion through a mix of being unable to pronounce the name and just a general dislike of mecha anime (I didn't realize how atypical of a mecha anime it is though). This is like Satoshi Kon level of shit.

I watched the original run of the series as it aired on tv and nothing else because I'm so overwhelmed on what to watch next.

I feel like I joined really late in life on a rabbit hole that may never have an end until the whole team working on the stories die.

>watching this pretentious garbage instead of eromanga sensei

off my fucking board. NOW.

It's from 2017, has one season and has been watched. Sperg elsewhere.

Is Eva one of those series where the author is a retard, but fans keep making theories and then he says it was what he meant from the start?

No, it's one where the author admits he's bullshitting every step of the way but people continue to agonize over potential hidden meanings in everything he does.

Its one where 0iq retards think their lack of understanding means there's nothing to understand

I came to appreciate Asuka more instead of this loathing for her and Shinji back in 1996 when I first watched the series.
>mfw most people here wouldn't have seen Evangelion on VCD

That's also true but IIRC Anno has literally said there's no deeper meaning to a lot of the symbolism and religious imagery outside of "it's cool"

You know I'm not talking about the religious iconography user

Imagery can have no deeper meaning but "symbolism" inherently does. I think Anno has gone on record to say the Christian overtones have no meaning beyond looking cool, but there is still a lot of symbolism to understand and analyze in Evangelion.

About Relogious imagery yes, it's ust a stand in for ancient aliens aesthetic.
But psychological symbolism is intentional.

Just what you would expect from the master, Mr. Anno.

She started drinking coffee because it reminded her of Kaji, who always preferred coffee over male-associated drinks like beer (which is what she actually prefers, so it's a sort of role-reverse on gender subtypes too, in a way.)
Except Kaji didn't prefer warm homemade coffee from a pot. He preferred cold, canned brand coffee from vending machines and shit.
I wonder what that could mean.

Pretty sure he just said that shit to fuck with people.
Even the Christian imagery has a ton of meaning and symbolism going behind it; it's just that it isn't often associated with its original, intended, religious meaning. It's more like Anno takes them at face value and applies his own themes and meanings to them instead.

>He preferred cold, canned brand coffee from vending machines and shit.
based that's how I like mine

This is the rare shot of Asuka Soryu's hand. There's plenty of Rei Ayanami's hand, and Shinji's handshot is pretty famous already.

but this is the side by side of Asuka's and Rei's hands from the rebuilds, and a riddle lies within

can you solve it

Rei tried harder for Shinji. Forgot all about this.

That's the religious stuff, which is not what anybody in this thread is talking about. The religious stuff is an aesthetic, just like if an anime had Greek mythology for its aesthetic, or cyberpunk. Its only the people who dislike Eva who don't seem to get this and never shut up about it.

Did people really not notice the coffee mug symbolism? I noticed it on the second watch
