25 to life, sicko

Standard magical girl anime with animal companion turned into power levels and military intervention by the space police. Other than that top level cast voicing cute and cool characters and Nana singing some of her best songs. Have fun.

So can I just watch the movies?

Yuri

Absolutely not. The movies are prettier versions of the first two seasons with all of the important character development cut out. You'd better not be starting there like a filthy secondary.
Release order or GTFO.

The first season is pretty slow and if you're bored to the point of wanting to drop the series because of it, you could watch the first movie instead. Maybe. You miss out on some character things but if it means you'll continue with the series, which improves a bunch past the first season, do it.

The second movie is fucking abysmally awful as far as a replacement goes and you absolutely HAVE to watch the proper second season. Then follow that up with StrikerS, the third TV season that has no movie.

Reflection and Detonation are new stories that don't fit into the continuity otherwise and can be watched at any point past that.

Vivid and Vivid Strike are way, way down the line and aren't worth looking into unless you're willing to read the Vivid manga after you watch the anime adaptation since it barely got anywhere.

It sure is abnormally quiet in this Nanoha thread. I guess everyone is out busy worshiping Our Lord and Savior Vivio since it's Sunday.

I don't want to watch the show but can someone tell me what the Lyrical in the title references? is one of the main characters a lyricist?

You will never be able to watch Nanoha for the first time ever again, Yea Forums.

It's a relic of the origin of the series. It was originally a shitpost story included on a fandisc called Lyrical Toy Box for a visual novel the same author wrote. Then it became a real series itself and overtook the popularity of said visual novel.

First time watching A's was fucking magical. But I still love it to death every time I rewatch it too, so I'm not that beat up about it.

I do wish I could have watched Detonation without the millions of spoilers everyone including the production company was flinging around everywhere, though.

Lots of lolicon pandering and not much of actual substance.

Well that is the problem with a fan base that takes this stuff too seriously. They spoil everything and attack everything they don't like. I refused to post in any Nanoha threads before I saw the movie first about a month out in advance.

I avoided all Nanoha threads when the movie was about to come out in theaters and wound up hitting unmarked spoilers in a completely unrelated thread. Not to mention the promotion for the BD release having the ending plastered all over it, though I played GoD beforehand so I wasn't too upset by that.

Attached: CjhaYiQUoAApY0w.jpg (400x400, 39K)

>wound up hitting unmarked spoilers in a completely unrelated thread
Same here. The two things I had spoiled ahead of time were the cats and Nanoha's arm. But I feel like I would've figured out the cats when they appeared in the first flashback just based on the collar colors. And I might've missed the arm thing completely if I hadn't been specifically looking for it since it was dark and they never made a big deal out of it. I didn't know anything about Maxwell going in.

I happened to finish the Reflection and Detonation movies today and feel the void settling in. Have looked around already but are there any works out there outside of the Anime medium that anons enjoyed? Would be great if it focuses on the original trio.

>unless you're willing to read the Vivid manga
I don't feel like that's especially necessary. Pretty much the only oddity from Strike if you didn't read the manga is Yumina and the only thing the manga does is introduce her. She never actually does anything. She just gets introduced and then starts following Einhart around everywhere. So there's not much to miss about her.

Attached: 1495699551829.jpg (300x450, 50K)

The side mangas for all of the original series as well as Reflection are a nice read and fill in some interesting details, and Nanoha INNOCENT and its sequel manga are extremely fun detours. You could try reading what there is of Force and get disappointed that it won't ever see a proper continuation, too.

I also recommend watching the 1st and 2nd movies with the commentary tracks, Ron made subtitles of them and they're a blast.

It's mostly that I think that the Vivid anime stopped at a horrible point and is incredibly unfulfilling and seems poorly written if it's all you ever experience of it, it's worth the full read. Plus Einhart as a character changes completely by the time of Strike due to manga-only events and that's jarring as shit if you're not in on it.

190299393 here. Sounds great, thanks for the pointers user.

The side mangas I'm referring to all use the title scheme of "THE COMICS" by the way, if you didn't know what to look for. So "A's THE COMICS", "StrikerS THE COMICS", and "Reflection THE COMICS".

Bless you user. Found what you were referring to.

What are you talking about dude, the first season didn't have that much depth/development and the amount it had was the same in the first movie. It's a valid alternative.
Wanting to watch the second movie instead of A's is a horrible, horrible idea though.

are movie subs out for the 2nd one

nyaa.si/view/1155997

1st season has a bunch of nanoha's life stuff in it while movie 1st has a bunch of fate's life stuff in it (more interesting) - this is an adaptation of the good parts of the s1 soundstages so you can read those instead if you want

thank for spoonfeed

The first movie doesn't even mention how Nanoha feels like an outsider in her own family. Nor does it mention anything about her family background from when she was left alone when she was younger. Those become a core driving force behind her attraction to Fate. She's seeking out the familial intimacy that she's not getting from her own family which is a major theme throughout the entire series that continues with Vivio, Einhart, Fuuka, and Rinne. It's about them making a family for themselves after they didn't have one where they belonged. And the movie also leaves out the segment covering her feelings of inadequacy after the giant tree causes tons of damage to her city which becomes an ongoing issue for her during StrikerS, Reflection, and Detonation.

I think all of that is pretty important to the narrative. At least we can all agree that 2nd is even less of a substitute for A's. If nothing else, starting with 1st is probably a gateway toward that egregious mistake.

There are a ton of fags that will screech at this opinion but you can totally just watch the movies. They're basically their own thing and by the time you get to the last two films it diverges from the TV series and avoids all of Strikers, which was mediocre as fuck anyway.
By watching the films you lose 75% of the SoL elements of the shows, but in exchange you get lovingly animated action sequences of cute girls doing badass things with high-tech magical science.
If you want more of the characters you can always go back to the TV version, but the movies are fun as fuck.

A new viewer doesn't care, and doesn't need to care, about any of that stuff.

This, and by the time you hit Stikers and everything forward the TV anime goes to shit. I liked Vivid Strike though.

The A's movie loses so much that it's not even funny. When your plot winds up making literally everyone involved look like absolute retards, you cut too much.

You can but it's the same at eating McDonalds when you can get iHOP.

Nigga that's just diarrhea versus more diarrhea.

Everybody only gets one chance to watch the series the right way for the first time. You shouldn't encourage people to choose wrong. You can rewatch your favorite parts however many times you want and in whatever order you want after that.

Attached: DEiBKntUIAIydOk.jpg large.jpg (526x635, 80K)

the white devil

The first season is shit (sasuga Shinbo), so watch the movie instead. A's is where the series actually becomes worth watching, so watch the TV series.

A's tv is filled with a bunch of junky filler which the movie replaces with things that actually are worth spending time on

A's probably has the least amount of filler, and moves along pretty breezily after the first three episodes or so. If you're looking for filler, watch StrikerS.
The movie makes the battle scenes look gorgeous, but it skips too much of the plot for my taste.

Now that's one hell of a hot take.

I just thought of something obvious that I never had before.
Why was Detonation called Detonation? What detonated?

If this is the Nanoha thread I just wanted to point out the StrikerS cast is also gonna be at the 15th Anniversary event.

I hope it's a fucking TV series if something StrikerS-esque happens because a StrikerS movie would be awful. And I say that as someone who has StrikerS as their favorite Nanoha material. Detonation was already too cramped.

Attached: C2dYXKNUkAIe_PQ.jpg (500x425, 38K)

Strikers could easily be done in two movies, less cramped than Ref/Det were

If they remove a lot of the boring shit at the beginning of StrikerS and focus on Vivio faster I don't see why it couldn't be a movie or two.

In the end this shit is literally just magic loli gundam, it isn't that serious. Just fucking watch whatever you want and have fun.

The StrikerS climax alone would take up an entire movie the way it is, especially if you upped the action levels appropriately. Not doing that proper justice would be a crime.

I admittedly have more attachment to the first half of StrikerS than most do, but if they really wanted to they could zoom through a lot of the training portions in an initial movie and cut down on the length of the earlier incidents and race to get to the attack on Ground HQ, I guess? Then leave the entire second movie for the climax? They don't seem to want to break the hour 50min runtime barrier anymore even if it would make sense, if Reflection and Detonation are anything to go by. If they had more wriggle room like the 1st and 2nd movie's runtimes, things might be different. Even with that setup, it'd require zooming through 17 episodes worth of content which the A's movie showed they're not exactly good at doing.

Attached: DkkCTbhVsAAFZdX.jpg (369x398, 33K)

Honestly as long as the ending with Nanoha and Vivio is given the entire budget I don't really care about what happens prior.

So I watched the first part yesterday. It was ok I guess. The english from the weapon was kinda annoying and the whole space police thing seems kinda weird but other than that it was a fun watch. Hope the second season is gonna be better though.

A's is much, much better than the first season. I hope you're not spoiled on it.

Leave the thread before you get spoiled.

I literally know nothing about it.

That was the first thing I thought of, but I refuse to believe that the correct answer is that silly.

The real reason behind the title is that Detonation is a word that describes the action oriented nature of the film well, and it's the culmination of the stuff Reflection sets up. Both words end the same and Reflection was a convenient way to refer to the Materials, so they just picked another English word that worked with that scheme. It hilariously lines up with the actual events of the film, but I doubt that was the real reason behind the choice in title.

Excellent points here, I think you're absolutely right. The problem is that, the first season of Nanoha is quite old at this point and it shows. When I first watched it I knew it was a gem but it still had its fair share of filler episodes and fanservice panty shots which just won't be for everyone. That's why for a newcomer I think the first movie is a valid alternative as while It definitely has stuff It's missing, It looks stunning and gets the point across good enough for you to start A's. I personally think the manga is the best in terms of understanding Nanoha as a character. I think you and I both know how much of a bad idea watching the 2nd movie without watching A's first so not going to say anything about that.

Agree. I love StrikerS a lot but a movie or two wouldn't do it justice. There are stuff that can be skipped but the show builds on top of past events even more so than first season and A's.

Attached: cute.png (448x429, 390K)

I don't particularly care if a StrikerS movie is good or not I just wanna see my cyborg lesbian and her girlfriend again.

Reflection and Detonation outright avoiding pantsu no matter what (yet still showing Kyrie's during her transformation, somehow, because if it's not an upskirt it's okay in modern anime. logic) was so strange. The first and second movies were still open to showing it at times even if it was rarer than in the original three TV series. At least the Vivid manga continued to give tons of pantsu the entire duration in addition to much more, bless that mangaka.

Then again I don't know how something as ingrained in anime culture as pantyshots would upset anyone, but it IS 2019 and everyone's gone insane.

Pretty much.

How come underwear isn't included in their magical suits? Wouldn't it feel uncomfortable if your pantsu disintegrated under your clothes while you're fighting?

>the StrikerS cast is also gonna be at the 15th Anniversary event.
That actually is significant since the StrikerS cast didn't appear in either of these past two movies or their commentaries like the Vivid cast did. But before everyone gets hyped for StrikerS movies, keep in mind that there's something else that all of those characters appeared in: Force.

S1 is directed by Shinbo so I hope you like the SHAFT look

NO PLEASE ANYTHING BUT THAT

Attached: 7b9.jpg (326x326, 16K)

Now that sounds like a more reasonable explanation. It was because they suck at English.

Maybe it won't really be Force. Maybe it'll be some reworking of it. They've just shown their willingness to do such things after reworking GoD into Reflectination. That could allow them to do it even if Yukari doesn't want to work with King Records anymore since they could write Nanoha out of it. And maybe they'll write Thoma out of it too. Or at least turn him into a girl.

Honestly would just rather a StrikerS recap movie at this point before moving onto anything new. Just to finish off the original triology.

What if it's a new movie during Nanoha's middle school days that covers her injury and also rescuing Subaru from the airport?

She just got her arm blown off and lost one of her eyes.

Pretty sure they're not going to double up on Nanoha severe injuries.

>Pretty sure they're not going to double up on Nanoha severe injuries.
Why not? Detonation was only a flesh wound. She recovered after like a couple days. She isn't gonna learn from that.

I read through the replies. Most people are hyping StrikerS movies just like here. One guy wants a continuation of Force. And another wants more Vivid Strike.

It could be more Strike. Maybe the Vivids will join the TSAB and get mentored by the old StrikerS. Harry and Els have talked about enlisting.

Nope. You can't get full enjoyment of the movies without watching this first two seasons. You just can't. The movies used to be considered as actual movies in the TV series universe until Reflection and Detonation came out. Now they're just alternate universe.

Watch the first 2 series. You may not enjoy the 1st one that much, but A's (2nd series) is the best entry in the franchise. You can watch StrikerS (3rd season) as well, but I don't recommend it.

But you'll have more fun if you watch it in the correct order. Why would you suggest people watch it in the wrong order so they have less fun?

It's weird how most of this thread has been debate over whether you can watch the movies first. What ever happened to just sexualizing the Nanohas? The consensus seems to be that some people think you can start with the movies, but most feel that you really shouldn't.

I'm pretty sure she didn't lose an eye. She just had a lot of blood coming out of a head wound above it.

She went blind in that eye and had to get it replaced alongside her arm, it's in the guidebook.

I'm just happy that autist who keeps replying to people telling them how bad strikers is and they should feel bad for liking hasn't been around for the last two threads. They've actually been fun thread thanks to that.

The movie version huh
>Two friends shooting down a Guncannon together

Hopefully he fapped so hard to Detonation that he gave himself a heart attack and died. I'm not sure how that could be possible when there wasn't anything in Detonation to fap to. But if anyone could do it, it would be that nutjob. Or maybe he killed himself now that it's basically been confirmed that the next entry is going to have the StrikerS cast which means no more loli Nanoha.

Nanoha was barely even in these last two movies anyways, especially Detonation. She only did anything during the first five minutes and the last half hour of it. Apparently she spent the rest of the time playing footsie with Fate offscreen in a TSAB cafeteria.

Wow, that's stupid when they did nothing to indicate that happening in the movie. They should've at least given her an eye patch.

Nanoha's parts in Detonation were fucking rad enough that her lessened screentime didn't matter. She wasn't directly involved in the incident itself, she was a meddler who wanted to be a hero that saved everyone involved even though she barely knew any of them and that showed perfectly. It's just like her.

>Apparently she spent the rest of the time playing footsie with Fate offscreen in a TSAB cafeteria.
Now that I want to see, let's get that animated.

It still felt really out of place how Nanoha was the center of the big climax and got a short character arch in there after the rest of the movie had mainly revolved around Iris and Yuri's story. And both of their plotlines just kind of ended when Maxwell apparently lost his ability to control them after getting completely dismembered. The part that did focus on Nanoha was fitting for her, but not fitting with the rest of the movie.

>let's get that animated
Damn right. I want a Flirtation movie next.

In fact Nanoha hit Fate so fucking hard one time they got married and had a kid.

Maybe, maybe not. One spin off manga has loli Subaru and co.

They do draw her eye in the scene in the traditional "eye that's blind" style to be fair

Why are Erio and Caro only ever considered to be Fate's kids? When Nanoha brings a kid home, Fate's responsible for her too and she gets to move in. But when Fate brings a kid home, they're stuck living in a barracks since they don't have a family either. I don't think Vivio has ever referred to Erio or Caro as her siblings either. It feels like such an awkward rift in an otherwise tight family.

Attached: __erio_mondial_and_fate_testarossa_lyrical_nanoha_and_mahou_shoujo_lyrical_nanoha_strikers_drawn_by_ (1000x1000, 183K)

Literally the best main character and an absurd amount of loser peanut gallery secondary characters, rivals and villains.

Fate was too young to adopt Erio so Lindy had to do it instead, and with Caro, she wasn't able to align living conditions properly for a while despite her being her guardian and they had to live separately for a time. They wound up fairly independent as a result. Nanoha happened upon Vivio at just the right time when she was old enough legally and in the right living circumstances.

Tbh I just assumed magic futur technology medicine and The Tome of the Night Sky were good enough to fix her up.

Especially since ya know, she still survived the blast point blank in space with har armor destroyed Raising Heart half broken. It just didn't seem that big of a deal.
In fact an any point of the movie I was expecting her to say this it really wasn't that big of a deal and she's used to dealing with that kind of stuff.

Don't forget that in the original series, when she got nearly killed due to physical and mental overexertion, she had to go to physical rehab and it took a long time for her to even be able to properly use her linker core again.

Attached: [Randomacts] Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS - 09 (BDRip 1280x714 x264 FLAC) [D5D8E0B3].mkv_sna (1280x714, 147K)

Fate's mom level with Erio and Caro are much more ambiguous than Nanoha and Vivio anyway - I seem to recall there's an exchange in one of the mangas where this comes up and Caro considers Fate closer to a sister, Erio can't really answer.

Yeah but by Strikers she seems to be doing just fine considering she's ranked AA even with a limiter and still fires off fat lasers with ease.

That was nearly a decade down the line.

By that time she's slightly diminished and is further diminished by her use of Blaster 3 at the end of the series

Eventually she becomes a cyborg with a body that's eternally that of a little girl's.

Fate later gets arrested for pedophilia.

Bah, she still has the limiter in Vivid, she can't be that diminished.
And anyway, I'd still call that a win. I twisted an ankle 12 years ago and it's still not quite right, recovering that well from near death sounds fine to me.

She permanently loses 10% of her total potential magical power, or something like that

It's not that she's weak after it, just that she can never hit her maximum power levels again.

You mean Innocent. But if you look at the list of VAs coming to the event, it includes Rein, Caro, and Erio. None of them ever appeared in Innocent. And the manga only existed to promote an old mobage. They wouldn't waste time and money on that now.

loli Nanoha is already over again anyway, they just did it more stealthily this time.

Reflection/Detonation Nanoha is basically just Teen Spacecop Nanoha.

Why is it always Adult Fate x Loli Nanoha? I have a number of images like that. Why does everyone see Fate as the pervert? Nanoha is the aggressive one.

Attached: 58550932_p0.jpg (1000x800, 521K)

She couldn't have been 13 yet in Detonation since they were still in grade school. But then it ended with them graduating, so yeah, I think that marked the definitive end of the return to this era. Showing graduations like that is a deliberate signal to the audience that we're moving on.

Reflection had them in 5th grade, so ~11.

Where are Cyclone's new doujins? It's been a while now.

Can they make it 16 episodes this time? And maybe cut out Erio and Caro Ru entirely?

Except it's Restrained Shinbo, so it's just lazy animation instead of wacky still images.

Fate should have stayed flat

I'd be okay with taking Force's general concept and characters but doing something new with them like they did for the GoD cast. I need Signum's brown waifu to be animated already.

Attached: 35718805.jpg (458x640, 87K)

Since Erio and Caro's VAs are also gonna be there probably not. I hate them too, should've just stuck with Subaru and Teana

>Except it's Restrained Shinbo, so it's just lazy animation instead of wacky still images.
