Because western cartoons are dead.

Social media and gateway anime.
Aiden Williams
Because internet culture went mainstream over the last 10 years.
We all are to blame for that.
Jonathan Walker
Because muh 90's nostalgia was the gateway drug
Blake Harris
Geek is chic, user. Nerdy hobbies are all becoming mainstream: video games are already the biggest form of entertainment in history, tabletop gaming is on a massive rise, and anime is gaining a lot of traction too beyond just shonen on adult swim.
Alexander Parker
I have a need to constantly different than the rest so I stopped watching netflix tier series and went to watch anime
Leo Robinson
I have a fujo coworkers with yaoi badges on her backpack and an annoyingtouchy-feely 'free hugs'-type personality. My boss (old friend) told her about my powerlevel before I got to introduce myself to her, so I've been avoiding any personal conversation with her. So far it's going well.
Just found out she's been reading 18+ BL manga at work. My disgust is immeasurable.
Camden Russell
only escapism left that hasn´t been completely taken over by sjws and feminists
if you want to feel depressed just check out what sjws have done with comics and are currently doing to video games
Luis Jackson
This. Anime still panders to a wide variety of people with reasonably "normal" preferences. It gives you a simulated version of what you want, instead of browbeating you into wanting what they believe you should want.
Brayden Campbell
>Le boomer pretending to not know how anime has exploded in popularity in the past 10 years
Lol?
Daniel Parker
>only escapism left that hasn´t been completely taken over by sjws and feminists
Easton Williams
Ease of access for normalfags and western media near universally shitting the bed
Josiah Barnes
convention attendance doesn't equal anime popularity, a great chunk of people there watch anime only to have another reason to socialize with people without any larger interest in the medium
Jeremiah Walker
>going to conventions
imagine the smell
>going outside at all when not necessary
Caleb Rogers
I don't get this sentiment, like half of the anime has traps and minorities raise up shit.
Ayden Mitchell
Yes, but they aren't constantly revising costumes to be less sexy or replacing the original protagonists with rubber-stamp "black scientist girl" like with comics.
Brandon Morris
Aren't traps transphobic?
Sebastian Green
90% of people do 90% of what they do just to be acknowledged by others. Anime became 'cool and edgy' to watch, so people watch it to be seen as cool and edgy.
Brody Williams
Money
Julian Thompson
Yeah but the traps and minorities are fuckable. You get Astolfo and delicious brown girls instead of balding "women" and actual collect-welfare-cheque-before-shooting-up-a-gas-station minorities.
Hunter Cruz
>Yes, but they aren't constantly revising costumes to be less sexy or replacing the original protagonists with rubber-stamp "black scientist girl"
> traps and minorities are fuckable.
I see, so this is the power of the Yea Forums the far right wing website.
Isaiah Howard
Ironic weebs, crunchishit, twitch, youtube.. fuck those shitheads
Carson Diaz
in america is now more popular anime than comic?
Brayden Bennett
normalfags
Andrew Rodriguez
For a long time I couldn’t stand anime, and I still find most of it melodramatic and boring, but I’ve been forced to turn to it because I’ve run out of classic film and tv to watch and I’d rather escape into jap cartoons than what (((they))) are pumping out these days.
Jayden Cruz
there are no "political correctness" shits
Ian Perez
Are you serious?
Tyler Lee
printed comic books have been dead in the water for like 10 years. Yea Forums was one of the first to fall to the SJW hordes because they were too nice and welcoming, and it ended up with their hobby ruined.
capeshit movies are stupidly popular, though, are the thing that have been keeping Marvel and DC afloat
John Lopez
Basically this. Anime is the last un-pozzed medium on this planet, of course they want to infiltrate it.
Ethan Mitchell
Noah Smith
>printed comic books have been dead in the water for like 10 years
As I recall, they've been inflating their numbers by shipping unordered copies to retailers free of charge, and counting those shipments as "sales".
David Howard
fuck the fujo out of her and lose your virginity. I realize she's probably a hambeast and that's all the more reason you fucking her would be etnertaining
Samuel Cox
No, she's the worst kind of fujo: fujo thot. She has a beta following on social media, and possibly gets dicked on the regular by Chads during the weekends, all while looking like shit at work.
Her only redeeming trait is that she actually does a good job and pulls her weight.
Anthony Wilson
No fucking way
Jack Flores
Not even good BL: mangarock.com
Yes, I'm shitposting at work right now.

Anime were popular in europe and south america for decades, america isn't the only country that represent the "west"
Logan Robinson
Ive liked anime for years but recently I realized Western film and TV isn't worth watching, if I ever want to watch a western film I'd prefer to just rewatch one of my favorites
James Flores
Netflix. What happened to Otakon?
Joshua Howard
I'm okay with this if that means the normies will accept me and I'm going to get a gf.
Julian Ward
>100k+ attendance
thats pretty massive. I can't imagine the lines or how crowded the convention center is. I went to Otakon in 08' and I thought that was the biggest anime convention being east coast and all but damn
Mason Edwards
>europe and south america
do they watch anime too
Logan Williams
Scandi here. Literally had Love Hina in my public school library 14 years ago when I was 12, along with DBZ. Old dusty librarian probably thought it was for girls.
And thus, a fetish was born.
Nathan Scott
AoT started this shit. Every normie noe has AoT, JoJo posters in their room. Also One Punch Man
Daniel Jackson
first of:
>implying good BL (Yuri doesn't count) exist
>my sides
Second:
>Sociable second-year Yu Yang meets untalkative first-year Li Huan on his first day at the university
>Expressionless and reserved, Yu Yang finds it difficult to understand and connect with Huan
>As fate would have it, the two keep meeting and allowing their negative first impressions to fade
how are there 98 chapters of this shit?
Justin Allen
No idea, but this girl has at least read up to chapter 81.
Brody Cruz
I don't think you can really call it popular. It's still a very niche hobby. It's not even that big in Japan anyway.
Zachary White
unironically because of the meme culture
William White
iirc, they're doing cons at las vegas, and that's just a dumb idea
check /cgl/'s archive for info, there's some fun stuff to read

>I've been going to Otakon since 2005. I still remember the last Yea Forums panel with moot and snacks in attendance. The line for the panel took up most of the top floor, and was comprised of probably at least 500 retarded wailing banshees regurgitating their favorite memes as loudly as possible. There were staffers using megaphones to direct the line and they occasionally used a button on the megaphone to make a long beeping sound. Everyone in the unruly crowd started mimicking the sound, hundreds of people beeping back each time. "fuck yeah, Seaking!" was the flavor of the month meme then, and it could be heard echoing throughout the entire convention center that night.
>The panel itself wasn't memorable...[cut some text due to character limit] After the panel concluded the energy was still high and the convention center was shutting down for the night. so moot, snacks, and probably 100-200 others (myself included) congregated outside on the sidewalk by the main registration doors and had some impromptu after party. I distinctly remember that at one point, a staffer in a full fursuit came out of the main doors, and they were immediately mobbed by some retards screaming "kill it with fire" who thought it would be lulzworthy. I didn't see it, but apparently someone then kicked the furry in the jewels. The energy almost immediately died down as most sensible people realized that others were starting to go too far... And everyone started to disperse. Police started to show up at some point too. I don't know for sure but I'm about 90% certain that incident was why Yea Forums panels were banned from otakon afterwards.
Oliver Russell
I have no problem with people's sexual preferences but surely you don't have to resort to gooktoon garbage for your fix.
Aaron Price
I'm glad you understand the disgust I feel.

Angel Morales
They are legit characters and not token diversity picks.
Tyler Ortiz
Did you go to Nakano Broadway?
Nolan Rodriguez
they were doing the hotel a service, furfags earned their repulsive reputation from how nasty they turn in large-scale gatherings, we're talking publicly marking the facilities with their piss and shit during their cons. (well, the ones that weren't organized by scam artists who stole the money and disappeared like a yiff in the wind.)
Dominic Parker
furries have always been fucking disgusting, now they come here and act confused when people shit on them
James Foster
>frenchies are weebs now
what happened
Samuel Garcia
>maid cafes The girls are uncanny as FUCK
>otaku errwhere
>H billboards errwhere
>everything is commercialized
And yes, the fucking kusogaijin didn't help.
Nah, mainly stayed in my capsule watching anime during the day and went drinking in Shibuya during the night. Tokyo is severely unfun in comparison to the 'smaller' cities and the countryside.
I miss getting drunk with countryside yakuza during a small-town festival.

Gavin Barnes
Frenchies just hate Anglo shit

Frenchies are the biggest weebs in the west dude, here it's almost mainstream. I read somewhere we are the 2nd buyers of manga worldwide only after Japan. I bet we much represent a good chunk of Yea Forums as well
