Have you guys noticed how in almost every shoujo manga, the main hero is always some tall, skinny, pretty-faced dude? They have a common attitude too, cold, distanced, kinda lonely type. Does this reflect a common liking in Japanese girls? Do you think this applies to women in other countries too? I dont think these characteristics would be repeated so much if they didn't do anything for the medium's main target, girls.
>the main hero is always some tall, skinny, pretty-faced dude You've realized that women like attractive men. Congratulations, user. Truly an incredible insight.
Liam Wright
But why not a muscular guy? Why not a masculine guy? Does what I stated mean that they prefer skinny, femenine guys to muscular, masculine men?
Grayson Price
Women are simple things in some ways.
Asher Gomez
Kano from Kagerou Daze is 5'5" and he's the most popular character among females. There aren't any male characters who are both tall AND cold though.
Kevin Garcia
>But why not a muscular guy? Why not a masculine guy? Because they think those kinds of guys are gay.
Wyatt Clark
Intuitively, I would believe that masculine guys would be attractive for girs. How come it's all femenine guys?
Xavier Hughes
That seems counter-intuitive. I can understand how a muscular, metrosexual man (any jojo character) would look gay, but I don't see how a regular masculine guy looks gay. Also, what makes you think they think that?
Liam Green
I don't know shit about the shojo genre, but if am to believe you, that means that the shojo authors are perma stuck in their middle-high school mindests. By that i mean, they like the "mysterious" guy who in truth is probably some autistic socially stunted faggot. Basically they only wanna bang for a a few years and don't think about the future. Other women who grow up think about how a man will take care of them, and i don't see how a shy introvert will prove himself and get raises at work or get favors from people. Basically it's a high school tier fantasy for them. But fuck me maybe im totally wrong i don't know.
Brandon Mitchell
Because Japan hasn't been fucked by toxic masculinity or femininity. They have their own unique set of beliefs to get fucked by.
Wyatt Turner
Women around the world are indifferent to muscles at best. They are just flattering a guy if they compliment his build. In Japan, they would see it as unattractive. Buff=homosexual there. As for heroes in shoujo manga acting more feminine (independent of the muscle thing), I don't have an answer honestly. Maybe it's a fetish of sorts. There are feminine-acting men in ancient Chinese and Japanese literature written by women. I think the fetish thing holds up well because it isn't reflected in real life. The polished young salaryman type that represents what most Japanese girls want in a husband does not act feminine. Source: have been to Japan, have some Japanese friends, they act just as masculine as the average American guy, including ones that were popular when they were in high school (i.e. around the shoujo manga reading demographic)
Carson Myers
You are just looking at it through the lens of western logic. They want man to act masculine, they just have different standards of what male beauty is.
Colton Brown
Ore Monogatari? at least two girls drooling over a guy who could bend steel bars must be some market for them think of all the bara yaoi
I guess it makes sense, seeing how japanese males tend to be more androgynous looking. I had already thought about this, thought, that's why I asked whether this applied to western women.
Robert Perry
Yeah I know there are some exceptions, I'm just talking about the ones I've seen I may be completely wrong though, I don't know that much about the genre, it just made me curious
Justin Phillips
Bara yaoi is for faggots tho I think there were even some jokes about Takeo being popular with gay men at the bar he worked in
Henry Miller
>they like the "mysterious" guy who in truth is probably some autistic socially stunted faggot That's how the MC of Kagerou Daze is and somehow he's still pretty popular with females.
Luis Myers
>that means that the shojo authors are perma stuck in their middle-high school mindests. Or just that they know their audience.
Landon Rodriguez
>I guess it makes sense, seeing how japanese males tend to be more androgynous looking. Asian women in general like these types of men.
I think it's this. Don't forget that creators often live their fantasies through their own creations though, they may just be fulfilling an unresolved wish from their youth, or just be immature.
anyone got the caps or gif for chio talking about games? how she likes the gruff guy with a gun and the femc that looks like a gorilla while japanese games just have two twinks with massive swords.
>Women around the world are indifferent to muscles at best. No, you exaggerating, as soldier in the french army, i know some muscular guys and women are certainly not indifferent to them.
Logan Wilson
You don't fucking know what you're talking about friend, but by all means go on, it's entertaining.
Charles Allen
I remember a video of a woman giving an interview to the winner of a bodybuilding contest and trying very hard to resist gooing full on for him you could see her catching herself a couple of times and dialing it back only to unconsciously start fluttering her eyes
user, you should hit the gym stop lying to yourself
Josiah Torres
You could also ask why male asian pop stars are tall, skinny, and pretty-faced. While some will choose to keep their head in the sand, it's clearly a reflection of asian womens' tastes.
James Kelly
the eyes just keep flickering down forced grin at the wife.
Jacob Perez
Someone got that video of the bodybuilder beong revealed to a group of idols.
Jonathan Gutierrez
Lads lads, what if women are not a single hivemind and have different opinions and tastes
Jordan Ortiz
footballer really went for it huh Nadal truly is only human, it was cruel putting something like that nearby
Connor Jenkins
Stop joking around, user. We have a serious discussion going on in here.
Oliver Lopez
Any ugly person can lift. What matters is if he's handsome or not.
When starting to get over the "other sex eww" phase girls still haven't developed an appreciation for masculine traits. It's an acquired taste like bitter chocolate.
Aaron Nguyen
>NEET >manlet asshole >nice guy with no screentime >shota stalker >drone >literally snake >crippled twink >married man Women just love attractive guy.
Julian Rivera
>Leigh Carmichael This guy is great
Wyatt Ramirez
Sorry, but if your MC doesn't look like this I ain't reading it.
Same reason not only huge-tittied wide-hipped girls are popular, but also thin and fragile ones (or just lolis).
Kayden Harris
This type of works targeted at young girls which tend to be sexually ignorant and insecure and they present an idealized "pure" type of love. Overt sexuality is deemed vulgar and repulsive.
David Martin
is this peak performance?
Ryan Taylor
so what has realistic love?
Adam Sanchez
I live in Asia and can confirm my highscool and college girls classmates like those kpop skinny guys.
Anthony Fisher
100% pure natty
>my classmate macho-kun scans when?
Robert Cox
As in what kind of fiction? I don't know. Not romantic fiction in any case since it's by definition made for escapism. Probably some drama or something like this that doesn't explicitly focus on romance.
>that means that the shojo authors are perma stuck in their middle-high school mindests. You know shoujo is targeted at young girls generally in middle-high school right?
men like muscles in different ways to women japanese are quite a k strategy group so ostentatious displays would not be expected.outside of the village peoples
Kevin Nelson
Give me more good shoujo recommendations. Something for beginners if possible.
Brandon Ross
Fruits Basket, Cardcaptor Sakura and Shugo Chara are good first shoujo reads
Parker Morales
Women like the bishonen looking anti-hero/villain in a position of power. I, however, while also being attracted to them, also always look at those type of characters and I just want to beat the shit out of them. I wonder what that says about me as a woman.
Parker Murphy
Are you a young/teenage girl? Because that's what shoujo is targeted to.
Aaron Collins
koi dano ai dano
Cameron Lopez
Thank you so much. I'll begin Shugo Chara right now.
Blake Reyes
depends on your age maybe you're looking something different in a guy rather than a playboy fop
Carson Stewart
hapi mari for a josei series use mangaupdates.com for its search functions pretty convenient way to find stuff
Owen Edwards
Im not talking specifically about Shoujo anymore, actually. In general, if a series has a character who's super poweful and also good looking(in Most cases handsome twink with pretty hair and a long-range attack) he's gonna have a huge female fanbase.
Tyler Evans
he's like Majin Buu, he become an ikemen when he doesnt eat
Xavier Peterson
where does Fuutarou/Kintarou from 5toubun sit for you?
Samuel Wright
I dont read that, sorry
Daniel Price
quick question if you'd care to answer it I understand yaoi artists have a habit of drawing oversized hands and other features is it really that noticeable thing to women? Large hands?
Luke Peterson
I find that shit in yaoi uncanny valley level of off-putting. Straight up alien looking motherfuckers. That's also why I dont read that, but I can imagine it has its target audience or else it wouldnt be used so much
Isaac Cruz
Note that while huge buff bodybuilder bodies are considered faggots in Japan, ripped swimmer otter mode bodies are still desirable and seen as sexy (e.g. Free!) Pretty sure the super slender super feminine love interests in shoujo manga only attract young teenage girls
Jaxon Hall
Yes, japanese girls love this. Western girls too.
Justin Bell
Japanese guys are all skinny by default, and pretty faced. Don't confuse western with eastern aesthetic.
Michael Wood
So lsomeone liike Murata's Garou?
Kayden Rogers
Akatsuki no yona.
John Price
Because young teenagers boys in japan are super slender and super feminine looking.
Evan Clark
Yakusoku no Neverland is half shoujo half shounen good for transitioning, also. Got the bishie boys OP was talking about too.
Jackson Allen
>brooding, edgy, lone wolf >is actually kind and just misunderstood >powerful and ripped as fuck
If OPM sheds more light on Garou's past and shows his vulnerable side, he would have a pretty big female fanbase, even more if he has pretty face like Flashy Flash. Currently the way OPM portrays Garou appeals more to men (e.g. growing stronger)
Something that ticks almost all of the boxes for female magnet is Sesshoumaru, lost count of how many girls named him as ideal husbando
>all of garou's traits >pretty face >anime shows his vulnerability and weak side >sweet moments with his adoptive kid
Gavin Jackson
I am probably one of the few (if any) ladies out there who find Sesshomaru to be an actual autist.
The bishie type are usually have plenty of muscle tone when their shirts are off though, they just aren’t hunks with bulging muscles.
Jacob Cruz
Popular titles for beginners: Lovely complex, Koukou debut, Ouran high school host club, Natsume Yuujinchou, Oresama teacher, Kodomo no Omocha. Less popular but I like these: Machida-kun no Sekai, Madame Petit, (historical, indian prince x japanese girl), Taiyou no Ie, Anitomo (cute sol), Usotoki Rhetoric (historical, gentle male lead); Library wars, Mairimashita, Senpai (school sol, there's some drama but characters resolve it by talking), Karakuri Odetto (it has no ending though)
I also would recommend to avoid these authors in case you don't like bland school love stories and a lot of cliche drama: Sakisaka Io, Hazuki Kanae, anything by Minami Kanan; Hirunaka no Ryuusei is usually praised by I found it to be bland, the ending and the blond guy winning felt rushed too
are men simpler if one of our priomary drivers is breast size and shape?
Jeremiah Reyes
Yea Forums is dead
Isaac Myers
I'm just personally not a fan of her works
Aaron Rivera
That's okay Inuyasha is in the low-tier anyway
Jaxson James
>They have a common attitude too, cold, distanced, kinda lonely type.
It's more of a bad boy vibe that girls can "correct", it feeds on their maternal instinct, and surprisingly, if the character is well written, he can top even the main love interest. The most famous of this example would be Hanayori Dango and its split fanbase.
Also, I was surprised when Arakita from yowapedal ranked first in some nip poll years ago for "Perfect Boyfriend", beating Makoto from Free by a margin. Not only Arakita has a shitty character design, Makoto is ripped as fuck and way nicer than the former. Arakita is a good example on how girls crave these bad boys.
Wait, literally me? I might have a chance after all.
Elijah Jackson
the funny thing is that girls dont go for cold, distanced guys IRL, they literally dont even register on their radar.
Tyler Ross
What you describe is the ideal of male beauty in East Asia. Where do you think all those airbrushed partly feminine hosts, jpop and kpop idols etc. are coming from?
They are supposed to be intelligent and sensitive, while some square-shaped gym obsessed freak is considered a stupid, emotionally shallow caveman. Your idea of 'chad' would not work in Asia.
