So like, why is everyone (other then Naussica) a haggard old fart? Why is there no one that's Naussica's age?

Like is the Valley of the Wind a retirement place?

Miyazaki self insert

They just grow out their staches to octogenarian levels; consult the mango

Friendly reminder Nausicaa wasn't even best girl in her own series.

somethingsomething about nausicaa tiddies or something.

Reminder Nausicaa was the villain all along.

Is the mango worth reading or is it just a retelling of the movie?

Yes, it's much longer and has Miyazaki indulging in all of the fucked up shit he could never get away with in his kiddie movies

could you love the woman underneath that armor, user?

Humanity is in decline. Less and less children are born. Which is one of the reasons Tolmeks go to war both in the movie and in manga.
Like making Nausicaa into Muad'Dib, complete with fedaykin squad
Funny how the only translated Nausicaa doujins are of Kushana.

Could you explain what you mean by that?

she's old af too
he just has model genes

I would lay down my life for the true heir of Torumekia

>So like, why is everyone (other then Naussica) a haggard old fart?
It's about war and country rulers. Of course they're all going to be old farts compared to the teenage Naussica.

>Is the mango worth reading or is it just a retelling of the movie?
It is definitely worth reading. The movie covers only the first arc of the story, the part where she gets lost and helps out the young Ozma. There is a ton of story after that, of her traveling away from her village and getting caught up in troubles with a whole country. There's a reason that her blue outfit is a big deal, and it isn't just because it showed up at the very end of the movie.

Proof?

>Anno: She rejected coexistence [with them]. She bloodied her hands so that her own people would survive. That was good. This karmic punishment that required [her] to destroy [them] with the abhorred fire of the God Warriors – that was good (laughing). [Good] because the true views of Hayao Miyazaki were expressed, and there, at least, he took off his underwear [and showed himself naked]. In the manga he took off his underwear, and his penis was erect (laughing).

Nausicaa has some pretty big breasts...

Nah, those are two other squirrels hiding under her shirt

Nausicaä is my favorite manga or even book in general. Miyazaki peaked with his first work and you will find a lot of the themes and imagery of his later works in it. It also heavily inspired Ano so without it there would be no Evangelion how we know it today. You see

>or even book in general
Really? I don't even think it's a particularly great comic book.
>It also heavily inspired Ano
So did Devilman.

I remember reading him addressing that.

Apparently he wanted her to feel motherly. She is a pretty manly Warrior most of the time after all.

I forgot I highly recommend the new Boxset it's pretty cheap for the whole story and looks amazing.

Just don't even try reading it from the shitty old scans you find on the Internet

maybe not if you compare it with some highbrow literature. I dunno I haven't read any other manga with such great world building and realistic characters, apart from Nausicaa being warrior jesus. It's not perfect for example I think Chikuku felt like nothing more than a plot device. I still loved every page and still think about it regularly.

I read akira right after and it was kinda shit in comparison desu

Not him, but check out Bokko, Mother Sarah or Hi no Tori

Don’t listen to that guy, Nausicaä is indeed the best manga ever produced.

And I also read Akira after and it wasn’t as good as its movie.

>imagine a full blown tv adaption of Nausicaä directed by Anno

>Anno Nausicaa spinoff film never

>Bokko

Bokko is an eternal reread. I really need to get hardcopies for the library

I hope once Myazaki kicks the bucket Anno will snatch the rights for it somehow and make the final tribut to his master. I read in an interview that he did ask for it.

I will thanks

Good, what we need is a full series of Kiki's Delivery, Pompoko, the Yamadas and him getting off his ass and delivering a 2nd and possibly 3rd season of Karekano

I read it after several hundreds of manga and comics and I didn't think it was the greatest thing ever as most people who read it say. I love the art (except for the paneling) and the world-building, but that's about it. I agree about Akira, that while it has great art it has much worse writing.
>Nausicaä is indeed the best manga ever produced.
Sad if true.

Because all the young able-bodied people are sent out for war.

Naussica has terrible pacing for an anime. Its all eye-candy. Like someone took their favorite multi-episode series and spliced it together.

>Is charismatic and has a charming personality that draws in characters and audience alike
>Unorthodox princess that explores bug-filled jungle ruins, run trivial errands for townsfolk, and experiments in her secret lab
>Kills a room of elite soldiers using a wooden cane
Why can't they make good female characters like this anymore?

Girls need to be cute and competent characters aren't cute, so no more competent girls in anime anymore.

Yeah I blame moe for this trend

Nausicaa's not cute?

Did Sensei have a thing for Molly Ringwald?

The movie only covers a signficantly distorted version of the first volume's material. The manga goes on for much longer and is fantastic all the way through. The movie is in no way a replacement for the manga.

Anno will never make TV anime again because of Porygon

so it's like the Akira manga and anime movie?
both movies are excellent but don't really adapt the source material?

What?

That's a picture from the manga though.

There also was no war for the young people to be sent off to until the big war that most of the story centers around kicks off.

I'm placing my bets on just the poor living conditions causing a low rate of birth in the Valley. Although I swear seeing other young women at least in the castle, could be wrong though.

It's extremely similar to Akira, because it was also directed by the author of the adapted manga, long before the manga being adapted was completed. So both Akira and Nausicaa's movies end up just covering a condensed version of the early story, with a major change in the events of the climax that borrows conceptual ideas from what the author had in mind for the actual end of their stories.

He stopped making TV anime ever since a bunch of restrictions were placed on what visuals you could show on television.

ah that makes sense
reading the Akira manga (even the bastardized localized English version) really enhanced my enjoyment of the movie on a rewatch

I thought you were joking, are you refering to that one Pokemon episode with the Porygon that gave some kids seizures?

yup

Yeah. It's one of the reasons why he never finished Kare Kano.

The movie did her wrong, which is a shame since in the Dub version she was voiced by Uma Thurman who sounded perfect for Kushana.

Agreed, it was a real shame to just see her act out the role of a villain in the movie. I mean, still a Miyazaki-brand villain, which means she had heaps of redeeming qualities, but I liked her a lot more as the deurtagonist who was only shortly an antagonist in the manga.

Humans are slowly dying out and the young people they do have are all sent to war.

Original idea if it was live action.

Molly Ringwald is an old lady though

And so now is Emma Watson who Anno himself thought would be a good Asuka.

If Anno got to make a Nausicaa sequel, he'd make Selm have white hair and be voiced by Akira Ishida.

Attached: file.png (768x827, 489K)

Selm is easily the worst character in Nausicaä.
Not the least likeable but the worst written player.
It also irks me that it’s implied he won the princessbowl.

How can he be the worst written? He has the least amount of paneltime.

I still think he's what inspired Anno to make Kaworu for Eva.

>implied
It's explicitly stated Nausicaa abandoned her kingdom to live with Selm.
Which is another point for Kushana.

Man, Ohmz are fucking lame

What a stupid looking monster. Can't Miyazaki thought up of something cooler?

YOU are a monster

It's already been long since known that Ikuhara was his inspiration.

God the manga shit the bed with the ending. Also Nausicaa is a hypocrite.

He has enough.
He’s used as a deus ex machina two or three times and he engages with ALL major players often portrayed as both stronger, more moral and knowledgable.
It’s a travesty that he is the white saviour of the worm herders and the knight in shining armour to Nausicaä.
He could easily be removed from the story.

Based Anno.

Shut up loser, Selm is best boy.

Because Nausicaa is a strong woman who don't need no man. No, really.

>So like, why is everyone (other then Naussica) a haggard old fart? Why is there no one that's Naussica's age?

The Clan living in the Valley of the Wind is experiencing the full brunt of humanities "genetic inverted bell curve".
What's basically going on is the toxic jungle is advancing, spreading out further, and it's releasing toxic agents into the atmosphere that cause physical ailments and compromise the immune systems of people- Nausicaa's father even died from it prematurely. This also means it's progressively more and more difficult to birth babies that are even just capable of surviving being a baby in the first place, but on the other hand: the babies that DO survive will be more resilient and resistant towards the aggressive environmental conditions (thus the curve).
Now combine that with work place accidents, dying in conflict, and the fact that this has become such a massive problem that the other clans & kingdoms have begun to steal people.

>Is the mango worth reading or is it just a retelling of the movie?

Yes, absolutely.
The Manga makes the Movie look like a sloppy fan film. It's REALLY fucking good.

I have the Manga in hardcopy, it's that good.

>I have the Manga in hardcopy, it's that good.

Same, whole bookset, etc.
It's the only manga I've ever bought and I don't regret it for a moment.

No Asbel is

Ohms are literally the best thing this dumb movie has going for it.
