I think Darius Zackly is the Beast Titan. No, the writing’s certainly gone downhill. This arc is full of inconsistencies and all the characters acting like retards. This last chapter just made everything more obvious. For example, it’s already been established Eren has decent control over WHT power by escaping prison and Yelena telling him to escape underground, but all he could do in this battle was spam spikes. Didn’t even throw up a hardened wall to block the titan canon.

You could say he’s out of energy, but we saw Tybur-chan do plenty more during the Marley arc. We also know Eren has plenty of stamina as seen with his three transformations in the Marley arc. It’s like the reverse form of Kakashi’s chakra levels.

Why wasn't Colt the one to shoot Eren? It would have been more kino, poetic, and fitting with the "brothers" theme of the chapter. His death was beyond pointless.

That seems like a really petty complaint to have when Eren has had the power for a grand total of one month and was only able to use it once while escaping prior to the current battle. Expecting him to pull the same elaborate structures or weapons as Tybur chan during the Liberio raid is kinda dumb. It's also been pointed out both by Eren during the raid in once again by Magath last chapter that the WHT's downside was that it consumed a shit ton of energy. And Eren's been, as you said, spamming spikes since the start of the fight. It's not far-fetched in any way to assume he didn't have enough stamina left to make a new titan from scratch.

For now, I am sitting on the fence on the Eren living or dying issue. Standard MC plot armor tropes says no fucking way. Despite Game of Thrones making it somewhat popular to kill anyone, it is still narratively and markeability hard to kill the MC due to the massive investment not just by the creator but also by the fans.

For example, imagine if Jon Snow got killed off mid last season or Harry Potter dies in the middle of book 7. Similar with Katniss or Twilight’s main female lead. To kill off the main protagonist takes a lot of creator guts because it will cause them a lot of money. MC’s are often a franchise’s star vehicle. It’s also why Isayama felt under pressure to divert from Mist-style ending.

Now, if Isayama can actually kill Eren mid-final arc... for me, that is wow and very admirable but I do not represent the standard fan cause I studied fiction marketing. So to me, characters are more like numbers. Money numbers.

But BUT if I include in the timing... The anime just ended. Wit’s glorious adaptation have just ended. The fandom is hyped-restless, they want more and THIS happens. Plus, very downer exhibit which will go on for months. And the interview and Isayama is probably under a lot of pressure... and I think I came across 2-3 tidbits from him indicating that he hopes fans will be OK with the ending. Which makes me think - oh, I think he will really do that.

Got killed off for real. If there’s a Golden Rule of fiction marketing - it is that we do not kill off for real the Golden Goose which is the MC. A franchise’s ability to make money extends past the end of the story, and so it is just crazy to kill off for real the MC.

Now, there’s a lot of jokes about how Reiner is the Plot Armored Titan. But when it comes to plot armor, it is the MC who gets the most by default. It is so expected that very few popular examples of subverted Golden Rule exists. Right now, I cannot help but think Reiner being so plot armored is foreshadowing that he will take over as MC.

I prefer a good story than subversion, Killing right now hurts the narrative more than it would letting him live, if he dies here then what? we will face ourselves with a story that will crash down because of it inability to maintain itself, I'm not saying shouldn't die because he is the MC is just not the right time, specially if the only reason he is doing it is for subversion and shock value

The problem is that Eren dying right leaves way too many questions and too many unresolved plot points. Isayama has intentionally kept Eren's POV hidden for some reason for 30 chapters and killing him right now accomplishes little other than subverting expectations and tossing the previous story into the garbage just to start a new one at the very end.

MC have plot armor not because of popularity or out of fear of pissed off fans but because they are a huge part of the stories they are in, they are the ones that move the plot forward and the way they change according to the situations they are put in is as important as the plot. Eren's story has been the main focus of the manga for most of its run and putting it to an end right now feels like a poor writing decision especially since most of the other characters have stagnated and gotten reduced to just wondering what the fuck is up with Eren.

Maybe that is what he wants. To kill off the MC so suddenly that it feels like it just for shock drama. MC becomes a Red Shirt in his final moments. He does not even get a hero’s death. He dies like how his father killed the Reiss family.

Then he should have gone for that in chapter 4 instead of giving every relevant character titanium plot armor until Erwin, Bert and Ymir got offed.

No, MCs are defined by character arcs, by how they drive the story forwards and by their overall relevance. Plot armor is just a side effect of the fact that most stories start and end with them.

Reiner hits some of these points but his only motivations were to stop Eren, save FG and kill himself. If Eren dies, Armin might as well be the new MC since he is the only other person worried about solving the Eldian problem.

Reiner’s end to his character arc is finding peace with himself. He’s literally another Xavier right now

I despise EM but I actually thought Eren was talking about Mikasa at first. Then the raid happened and it became clear he forced the SC to participate in it, including her, so she didn't fit the bill. Then 106 reminded me that he had this whole dilemma about not wanting to sacrifice Historia before the timeskip and 107 kinda convinced me that if he identified with Falco in any way regarding his struggle to keep Gabi safe from titanization, it was because he was trying to do the same for Historia.
I'm aware Isayama's official answer is that he was influenced by memories, but that one user theorizing a while ago that experiencing the pain of seeing a woman he loved get titanized through Grisha's eyes might have strenghtened his resolve not to let Historia suffer the same fate even further.
