Why do some people hate self-insert characters? They're the only thing keeping anime good

It's a pretty subjective affair anyway. There is no standard self insert character aside from the typical Japanese herbivore man, but those aren't terribly common.

I don't think you know at all why those shows are popular, attributing it to just the intelligence of the MC doesn't account to much, since that is a factor that afflicts thousands of manga and anime that are not as popular as DBZ, one piece or HxH are.

Self inserting is gay as fuck. On the contrary, I like shows with characters different from me. It's interesting to see a new perspective, to get a new outlook on life, to consider different viewpoints and philosophies. There is nothing I would gain from essentially watching myself.
