The world building especially for it's magic system is extensive as fuck, like Tolkien levels of re-interpretation of mythology and placing it all on a power scale.
You also have to go full autism to get all the groundwork out for it, there aren't many franchises that take the effort for this. Characters also suffer from sameface but 'so what', with all the different artists that have done the same thing in the past when confronted with making new projects', I'd say the reason why the FATE franchise gets away with it is because that's practically the only thing that remains constant. It's all interconnected by a new project generally goes to the deep end on different relationships/ themes. Sort of like how summons are consistent in Final Fantasy series, Chocobos and shit like that.

The ranking system exists for the benefit of magi. Magi in Fate don't like uncertain factors, so shoving letter grades into everything makes things easier for them. All the moreso if that ranking system is easy to understand.
