As for Rize, well- you're right. It was ridiculous how Rize was treated in TG and Re in particular. I had to laugh at how dumb it was when in TG they broke her out and in Re, she ended up in a tube again without any real indication or explanation. That was taking the piss.

For some reason, the author started to rush the shit out of his series and it showed. Bunch of offscreened characters, poorly explained stuff and the MC stopped developing as a character. That was all before Furuta had entered the stage and I was already on the brink of dropping this. With Furuta, I felt like the series finally stopped taking itself too seriously and so I just wanted to see where the shitshow goes from there.

Something about Kaneki and Touka’s relationship that I find interesting is the amount of foreshadowing that went into making these characters fall in love on a fundamental level. Both of them have their own hang ups that form the reasons for why they fell in love with the other, and I find these little details absolutely fascinating. No matter where he was or what he considered to be his home, Touka was always there. Touka was always one of the people who he could never forget or allow to be harmed as part of his home. From Anteiku to Re:, Touka was always there at his place of belonging. So when Kaneki comes into the picture, he peaks Touka’s interest. First, he assisted Touka during her attack on the doves and allowed himself to prove how he could he could step up when the situation called for it and impressing Touka. Second, he left Anteiku so that he could destroy the ghoul restaurant and Aogiri and make the wards safer. Let’s make this clear: He went out and put himself in danger so that he could protect the ones he loves. He is the first man who is not in her family to embody this method of love that Touka is so fixated on. So naturally, she becomes extremely interested in Kaneki and wants to learn more about him, eventually coming to call these feelings love.

The reason why Kaneki became a dindu nuffin is because he's Ishida's self-insert, which made everything worse. All other characters sacrificed their character arcs and development to make Kaneki happy.
It was at this point that it finally sunk in to me that this manga had went to shit. I enjoy this chapter but this was when I finally realize I didn't give a shit about the new characters and just dropped it. I still haunt the threads to see how bad it has gotten though and it continues to just get worse.
Maybe that's it. Perhaps it's because the way it happened between Kaneki and Touka was relatively realistic compared to how relationships are portrayed in most other anime.
