Exactly. Tatara and Chinatsu are too complementary at this point to simply throw by the wayside. Their dynamic has been organically developed to the point where remaining partners makes considerably more sense than anything else.

I'd like to think there were plans to have Shizuku be more relevant in being Tatara's partner, but that has long been thrown out. Maybe when Tatara is out of highschool things will be different? Hyoudou might be too much for her.

This is manga, like many other sports series out there Japan won't be portrayed as that much behind in the given sport, not to the extent a few training arcs can't solve.
Unironically KyoAni could do it. I'd take endless amount of shitposting on this fantastic series for a proper adaptation. Ballroom would have made my AOTY if it had proper dance animation. The necks are humorous, but I didn't find them off putting to the point of making it a negative to the overall experience.
I wish we knew more about Shizuku. What's her family situation, for example? We've seen Tatara, Hyoudou, Chinatsu, Akira, Kumigiya and Mako/Gaju's family but not hers.

I feel quite the opposite, many people who went to art school never actually learned how make their own art, they can only absorb its history and maybe copy past some famous piece as homework, many great artists just perfected their craft by practicing by themselves and reading some DaVinci anatomy books as a clutch.
That makes her one of the people who actually have a major that didn't turn out to be completely useless.

Manga looks amazing, I agree with that, but the anime adaptation was pretty good overall too. Some could point the strange necks or the animation that is not all the time great but I think the manga's spirit got transcribed beautifully and with their budget, they did a really nice job.
I have a question though. I don't read the manga. In the anime, the tournament I see in this chapter is finished I think. Did they go ahead of the manga ? Or is it another tournament we didn't see in the anime?

I do think Tatara impressing Shizuku is going to be the "endgame" of the story one way or another though, it's always been about Tatara being seen by people and with dancing that all started out with Shizuku after all. Can't be anything permanent unless Shizuku drops all her plans to go abroad or something.

I don't think that's a bad thing at all personally, the "it's not real art unless it's all hand-drawn with nothing tech-related at all" people are delusional in my opinion, you can use whatever tools you want to create a visually appealing story, but photography is always going to look cleaner than usual

I'm really happy that the manga is back and the chapter was a wonderful step right back into the thick of things. Damn I missed that art.
Something that's been on my mind this chapter is that the author continues to stress what an outstanding talent Chinatsu is. This made me wonder, how good is Tatara at this point in time? In other words, is Chinatsu the deciding factor of the overall appearance, or can Tatara also make heads turn and truly is up to her standards beyond her just being comfortable with him?

The coach, the glasses girl, Mako, the friends around... I don't understand how I can relate to them that much but that's a strong point of the manga for me. It's just like a big family. Maybe it's a little unrealistic, there is competition but no hatred or feeling of jealousy, etc, but I love it.
It looks pretty similar to Shigatsu. Less drama, more dance, that's what I like.

I don't think there'll be any romantic development if that's what you're talking about, it's never been a major focus in this story. Even though shippers overrun the threads for this series, I'm pretty sure they're all going to be disappointed in that respect.

Not necessarily about romance, but more about how they might have branch out to having different dance partners in order to keep growing. We probably won't see an actual romance arc for a while, but I guess with something like dance it'll always be kind of implied though.

I think the idea that Shizuku is endgame is pretty innocent really. She just kinda looks like her, and there's no real evidence pointing towards that not being her either, but I won't deny that it's a good possibility. It'd just be nice to see that the first person Tatara really danced with is also the same person he dances when he's at one of his peak moments.

I don't know man. Say what you want about their hit or miss series, but they make some pretty shows almost always no matter if they're TV or movie budget. They would have a good chance to give it justice. Other guys I could see them giving it justice are the people behind Mob Psycho. Bones usually has some good people working under them, but the director did a pretty good job with it and Death Parade.
If certain shippers didn't ignore all the recent development every chapter in order to hammer the same point of "Shizuku is the endgame solely because of a flashforward at the very beginning of the manga", I'm assuming the "hate" for her would be a lot less rampant. On the other hand, she's one of the only characters that hasn't been remotely developed, so even though I don't dislike her, she's probably my least favorite supporting character.

Shizuku is a nice character and all, but the story has spent the last dozens of chapters showing that Tatara and Chinatsu are a couple that has good chemistry that they are developing. Not only that but Shizuku doesn't care to dance with him at all outside of a handful of practice sessions, she has her own goals and ideal partner in mind.
Chinatsu just makes sense at this stage in the story regardless of a chapter 1 flashforward sequenc, she even has a higher heroine level than Shizuku and honestly I find the fiery mare to be more compelling than the more demure Shizuku.
Also, don't Tatara and Chinatsu win this competition in the anime? If that's the case here (which is very likely, since the mangaka advised the staff on the likely ending of this arc), then Chinatsu is here to stay as Tatara's partner.

Well-said; at some point, stories can evolve into something more and different than what might have been initially intended and those intentions should be ignored in favor of where the story is naturally heading. That certainly seems to be the case here.
I hope Latin will edge in its way into the story as well. Would be cool to see Tatara get more expressive for that which in turn may help him develop as a person. And I want to see Chinatsu in hot dresses for Latin dance. Also, I'd like to see his dad or his grandma finally get aware of his hobby. I always got the impression that he still keeps his dancing a secret from his family, even though he's almost balls deep into the sport, to the point where he may go for a professional career.

Something I find so compelling about Chinatsu, is that she's quite aware of her character deficits and the lengths Tatara goes for her sake. She can't quite help acting the way she does and agonizes about it, yet tries her hardest to work with Tatara and get over it. Her characterization in the manga, the fiery mare imagery alongside her squabbling with her childhood friend is fascinating and you can't help but root for both Tatara and Chinatsu to form the pair they envision and strive for. It also helps, that the mangaka chose to keep heavy romantic drama out of the series. I wonder if she was surprised at how well Chinatsu worked out.

Yeah, honestly, I liked that manga more than Heat.
I really liked this manga, though it had two drawbacks for me. Afro-sempai's character design was a bit on the outlandish side and I wish he the author had toned down his looks a bit. That issue though I could look past for the most part. What really got on my nerves after a while though were was the middle pair, that couldn't fucking stop fighting over every little shit. I realize that the author was going for "they're rivals", but they kept acting incredibly petty and antagonistic towards each other and always fell back into old patterns, that it simply grew tiresome for me. During their latin dance in the final arc, I started rooting for the competing pair, the one with the abrasive guy and the bobcut girl, as they were much more enjoyable to follow.

Tatara didn't start her journey with her. She was the instigator. Mako helped push start him. His REAL JOURNEY AS A LEAD AND PROFESSIONAL DANCER begins with Chiinatsu.
Shizuku was shoved aside ages ago. She hasn't been relevant at all recently. The anime already suggested that Chinatsu will be Tatara's permanent partner and I expect the same will happen in the manga. Their dynamic has been built up far too much for it to be cast aside just so Tatara can go through the same go through the same arc with another girl yet again. I do think Shizuku will be relevant towards the end of the manga, but ultimately, Chinatsu will primary heroine going forward.

He did exactly that earlier in the series, and that intro scene cuts off before it states the names of who's dancing so why isn't it possible? that and Hyoudou's already well-known, it's more believable that he'd legitimately make it to a place like that over a newcomer like Tatara

I think you missed the fact the flashfoward sequence doesn't actually say when it is taking place, it is in future, but when it is not stated, despite their looks that could be them in their college years. That's the problem with flashfoward sequences in any manga, the author is not sure of how the designs are going to actually develop as the series goes.

I'm starting to think people who don't actually watch sports shouldn't be discussing this series. Competions happens across trimesters and sometimes in quarters, the likelyhood of someone being injured in mere weeks or a month apart could change their entire schedule for entering a competition, effectively resulting in several pairs being compromised from participating.

Where did these Shizuku supporters came from anyway? I don't recall these pairing discussions being that heated 2 years ago, since the manga had pretty much been focusing on Chinatsu and Tatara's development as dancers for years by then.

I was looking for those last week too and couldn't find it, file sharing of official manga releases are often not up to date on certain series, those groups are always already too taxed with comic book releases, official licensed manga sharing doesn't seem to be as spread out as comic releases yet.
I think there was something that needed to be fixed in vol 8 and danke was putting off ripping it until it's fixed, but it was really, really long ago.

The problem with official licensed manga sharing is that there aren't many dedicated hosting websites compiling them and sharing as much as comic book releases have, manga sharing is dominated by fan scanlation since that's people have been sharing manga overseas for 20+ years, digital manga sales are quite recent in comparison and there is some divide between people wanting to stick with fan scans instead of sharing official licensed releases, either by principle or because they just don't like the licensed product.

My point was that it's this + the other characters not really getting much panel-time, there are loads of series that balance focus between large casts and so on, this isn't one of those series so far.

I didn't mind the 2nd year couple but I feel like the series got a deadline for completion right after the Standard competition ended and so whatever story they could have had for the latin portion got shelved and shoved into the epilogue. But I did like that their relationship was based on conflict between two stubborn people. Compared to the 1st years who dance for fun and ditched their drama early on, and the 3rd years who had to resolve their future plans.

We dunno where the story is going from here and he wouldn't go through the exact same shit again assuming he's grown as a person to be fair. I personally don't think he'll be changing partners either (and I certainly don't want that to happen, Tatara and Chinatsu's relationship is the most interesting thing in the series in my opinion) but it'd be dumb to completely rule it out I reckon. Something peculiar is that Chinatsu's pretty much getting all the praise from other characters at the moment while no one is mentioning Tatara (by comparison both Kugimiya and Idogawa get praised individually and as a pair), that may or may not go somewhere.
