She doesn't hate the genre, unless you define genre as being a completely uncomplicated portrayal of the problems of these sorts of things. And in that case, most mangaka hate it because most large age gap stories don't have them end up together. The latest translated chapter was explicitly about why these things have problems: Mashuu's socially deprived and latched on to Satoko as his only emotional support. This is leading him to avoid forming relationships with other people and hurting some of them in the process. Even if Satoko was his own age, that'd be a bad thing.

But she's not his age and is more experienced in life and relationships than him. She very clearly sees what's going on. It's not easy on her either. She was this close to just spending the rest of the night with him. Probably not doing any boning, but just hanging out and connecting more. It's what she wants, to learn more about Mashuu as a person. As a responsible adult, though, she can't do it if it means he'll keep distancing himself from his peers and not fully grasping the significance. Satoko does know what this means, and that means she can't in good conscience ignore that. This whole situation is why adult and underaged relationships are such a thorny subject, even if the parties involved are consenting in all ways except legally.

I get people just want the shota to get with the cake. It's a personal desire of mine too. I didn't expect it to really happen from the beginning, if only just because it almost never does. If you just want the boy to do cute things with the older lady, go read Yakumo or something. 14-sai no koi sort of does it. I still appreciate the kind of story Watashi no Shounen is telling. I like that it's about two people genuinely into each other trying to deal with the real problems that come from that. My favorite chapter might still be the one about her sister remembering their own childhood, something almost completely divorced from the main story.

Well yes Satoko will seemingly want to keep Mashuu at arms length, but consider the flipside of Mashuu still wanting to keep after Satoko. Sure he will be aware and understand that he needs to develop more of a rapport with his contemporaries, but ultimately he will still be of the mind that he does not want to lose the good thing he has going with Satoko. And he be damned if he's going to let that happen a second time. It will be interesting to see the dynamic that comes with the clashing of these two mindsets.
