I am only watching this for Yue-sama, i hope they don't rush the first volume nor cut the SoL bits and Yue raping Hajime everyday after the dungeon clearing.

Yet barely anyone even buys that stuff. MT and TNY (pre-anime), both quite famous in west for starting off the JP isekai WN TL scene, had terrible LN sales below 10k per release from what I can remember.

I have no hope that it will spend the time it needs on those best parts.

Nothing special, considering manga tends to sell 10x or so better than LNs. "10k of LN and manga sales combined" is not really a number to be proud of. It's definitly good enough not to get cancelled at least though.
Unfortunately Shield post-anime numbers are hard to find because MAL stopped posting all LN and manga sales numbers since around Feburary 2019.

you have it backwards, the beginning was thinly veiled plagiarism, apparently the author sort of gave up a few hundred chapters in and just copy and pasted whole chapters of Arifureta into it, with just names changed (and amusingly some names not changed)

Is that in the latest volume? I really need to catch up then. It still should have started much earlier. I'd rather see more development and fun times with that than yet another combat trial for a god or another demon lord breaking things.

Manga for TNY was selling 20-30k before the anime. The latest volume that came out in April sold 50k. MT's manga has started selling 30-35k lately, probably what helped it get anime even though the LN is selling 5-8k. Most of the isekai that have been getting anime lately seem to have 40k+ combined.

Shield Hero is at 7.8 million total copies sold for the series now, up from 3.3 before the anime. That puts it up there with Overlord and Konosuba, although with a worse copies/volume ratio. Better than Re:Zero's with 5.5 million and more volumes in print though.

I like it because it takes a lot of the tropes and plays them straight and extremely over the top. Also really the only bullshit in the entire LN that I can see is that MC finds the ambrosia stone. Even using it for so long is reasonable and logical, but it's a game breaker for as long as he has it and having him become OP that way, with much personal risk and suffering, is way better than receiving cheats from God or some other deus ex machina. Also the girls are very cute and have cute interactions with MC. I want to see Shea's boobs animated!

After watching endless 8 in one sitting, nothing in anime feels particularly annoying anymore, except maybe the last half of Accel World.

Really, I love all the labyrinths in Arifureta and how they're all challenging, even with cheat level powers. And I miss how in later novels they don't list the stats and skills anymore, and Hajime just uses the same four over and over now.

It was certainly different but I thought Shea's introduction and addition to the party started Hajime and Yue on a character arc of overcoming their perceived isolation from the world and got them to care about regular people again. She really saved the series from being pointless naval gazing and OP curbstomps by adding some needed humor and motivation for the team.

Volume 1 could have been a decent standalone story, but to make it into a series you need to come out of Orcus labyrinth eventually and rejoin society, or else there's no point to even trying to get home.

You can decide MC can do literally everything, if that's your gimmick that's fair, but the developments are handwaved and asspulled in a couple of lines and aren't really explored or justified, which breaks suspension of disbelief.

For example, one of the very first asspulls, the rail gun.

How did he start off designing it? What real revolver did he use as the model?

How did he decide on the optimum barrel length? Bullet shape and size? Quantity of gunpowder substitute? Rifling? Weight/power balance? Not told.

Were there any accidents or setbacks during the development and testing? We're not told.

Did he draw his design anywhere or was he relying entirely on memory to retain the whole design as it changed over time? We're not told!

The text heavily implies he never actually tested it against a monster, because the very next chapter the rabbit he kills is the first victim of the bullshit gun. How did he test his gun? How did he quantify the results so he could improve on previous revisions? We're not told.

How does he know that it's ten times stronger than an antimatter rifle? Has he ever fired an antimatter rifle?

In the span of one paragraph he just builds a gamebreaking gun with no justification.

That "not" random encounter was so vague it might as well be wasted potential. The story then kinda fell apart because it then introduced other BBG characters that actually had no reason to face the protagonists.

You can make a ball and it would be electrically charged so much that it would not deviate an inch within almost a mile, not that it matters because all modern railgun prototype projectiles are "AP"DSFS warheads. The reason why people would want to use them is because raw energy can be used without a combustion to produce it, eliminating most variables in calculated ballistics.

MT's sales when it came to the beginning volumes were easily about 20k but then from middle part about 10-15k and if you believe the oricon rankings for volume 20 it was about 10k yes but the thing is this has 21 volumes now. Not to mention these are all oricon rankings not even taking into account the digital sales which were pretty darn good.

Manga sales were especially good hence why it got a Roxy spinoff. I think the manga sales really saved Mushoku in general.

I'm all caught up and the LN and I have to say, I hate harems so much. Like, apparently it is every guy's fantasy but for me it just doesn't seem pleasant. People think Arifureta is different because the MC starts weak as shit and has to climb to the top through perserverance. But he does that surprisingly fast (13 chapters in the manga) and even gets a loli vampire to boot. The best part was when he was kiting stuff 50 levels above him and eating poisoned meat. Once he became Devil May Cry edgy MC, it lost its flair rather fast.

I mean, the MC of Arifureta spends 2 months fighting killer rabbits on a fucking dark and damp cave, all on his own. But instead of showing that interesting part, they just skip ahead and show him making a gun out of rocks and styling on shitters.
I mean, that isekai with the girl who becomes a spider. The fights were always the best parts. In Arifureta, there's a few good fights at the beginning, then nothing. After a point (which comes pretty fast) MC basically one-shots almost everything with bigger and better guns.

To have an MC who isn't overpowered but still has epic journeys, it's important to give them drive and character that makes them actively build external strength for more than just 'lol I'm smarter than these natives I'm gonna have it easy'. It's just that even back in the old days, for example Record of Lodoss Wars, the idea that the hero is the one who unites the land to fend off the great evil never plays out properly thanks to the author's lacking and ends up with the MC having to lug around a continent of cheer leaders, or in Lodoss's case, lug around an NPC to beat the boss for you then take credit for it anyway.

Hajime's development is unorthodox and causes him significant mental anguish, and much of the series is him recovering from that original descent into edgelord chuuni. Kouki is a pompous loser who just doesn't know it yet, and his character arc is realizing that he's not the best and actually trying to honestly improve, rather than simply prove he's fine and Hajime is the one who's wrong. It's much less interesting character development.

A pompous loser who gets shit on over and over again for relying on his cheat stats before overcoming his flaws and becoming a true hero is way more interesting than an edgelord who barrels through all his obstacles.

I mean, the authors are controlling the narrative, so it's entirely their fault for bait and switch bullshit when THEY WRITE a girl as being best girl or best girls, and then they don't do ANYTHING with them.
For example, in Worth the Candle, first girl that joins his group is described in huge detail, being almost visually perfect for him. Then this was contrasted by her analytical attitude that sort of set up the whole "don't judge a book by it's cover" thing. They slowly grow closer together, getting over each other's faults and actually seeing each other as people- and by book 3, it seems like they're going to actually turn it into a relationship.
But nope, the elf, who the author themselves described as having less chemistry and attraction to the mc, suddenly swooces on in and that's that.
I wouldn't be so mad if it was the elf that was hinted at towards the beginning, but the blatant bait and switch makes me angry.
It makes me even angrier that they could both be happy with mc and visa versa if they'd be willing to go harem, but nope.

Young masters are usually a chosen heir (not usually for pure talent but a combination of lineage and such) of the clan/sect among many other peers of the same generation. They are given the best treatment and resources hence they also shoulder the clan/sect's hopes so when a young master dies that clan/sect is fucked hard cause it got set back enormously and possibly fatally depending on how strong the sect is. The MC uses this aspect to turn things around preaching to the non-chosen that if they support him he will implement a law that forces all clans to give equal opportunity and treatment to everyone within the clan, and this causes all the clans' resources to hit rock bottom very fast but more importantly because they split the resources no one among them is very strong. Combined with the clans' internal competition among the young generation and it means there's no time to ever revolt or resist against their ruler.

These kind of things are interesting because they can only happen in a setting where humanity isn't as limited in potential strength as we are. It wouldn't matter how much we invested in a single human being, they would never do much compared to investing in a group. But in cultivation novels it's practically the opposite.

And there was also a 5-min short series for Tales of Demons and Gods with 40 such short episodes per "season", though unfortunately the one for TDG has "clay"-like 3D art. And I mean that literally. The characters and environtment look like they have been made out of clay or something. It's watchable after getting used to it for 5 or so eps, but until then it makes your eyes bleed.

I wasn't talking about the technical level (which is better than shit exported to gook CGI like in Overlord, but still very different from Disneyshit). Ace might count if you hype up him instead of only count what he achieved in action, but he was Roger's son and also a D. as well as Luffy's brother, so naturally he's clearly part of that chosen circle.
