I think that showing is better than telling that's my preference, that instance works as introduction to today's case where Eren's head is flying, just as Annie's scream worked as introduction for the current Beast titan's scream, somewhat. If you think about it, it's always been a part of what shifters do. They don't just piolet their titans from inside the nape, they control them as though it's their own bodies. In some respect that must mean their consciousness is partly in the titan itself. This goes double for pure titans, who have no human form to speak of.

Plus, PATHS and all. We've known for a long time that a person's consciousness isn't something that's truely tied to their physical human body.

Titans and shifters can regenerate their heads, this has been well established. Consciousness shifting has nothing to do with surviving a decapitation, it has to do with preserving your memories within the brain of your titan. Eren doesn’t need an asspull to live from decapitation.
This is all assuming he doesn’t stay dead though, which is totally possible. Once Eren’s POV is revealed, a lot of the mystery is gone from the story. He could stay dead and have his intentions revealed through memories like Grisha.

In the panel preceding that there was a slight lightning flash when Reiner and Galliard touched, Ereh was stuck in their grasp.
We all know the likelihood of memory transfer is heightened between family members or when there's a royal titan nearby, or when a founder willingly decides to communicate a certain information (like Ereh sending the "if you wanna save Mikasa and Armin" line back) to another Eldian.
Something else was fishy about the chapter, is when Eren extended his titan hand as if prompting Zeke to delay his scream, coincidentally Colt comes into the picture at that moment. Maybe Ereh knew that he had to get Gabo and co out of the vicinity for him to make the connection?
