Takamura is just always the boy genius who didn't need the coach, which makes his obsession with the coach less harmful than ippo's because he's using his own boxing while only trying to thank the coach for introducing him to this lifestyle.
Ippo on the other hand is just way too lost in the sauce.

This takamura guy truly is a next level boxing athlete, Ippo has a lot to learn from him

In Boxing, being left handed is honestly the best advantage you can possibly have outside genetics because most people are right handed.

It fucks up a lot of your plans when you're fighting someone who essentially works in reverse and is mirroring you instead.

In any sport really, because you're mirroring the opponent, it becomes so much harder to compensate for southpaws.

It's come up in Ippo before but I'm not sure why Moirkawa is bringing it back now.

So essentially, Kamogawa Gym is actually crap and lucked out with a genius in Takamura, a lesser genius of endurance in Ippo and a quick guy in Itagaki, the former of which has enough natural talent to offset the gym's funky, outdated training methods and the latter two reached the summit of their squandered talent. Meanwhile regular joes and untalenteds like Aokimura get by with pulling bush league moves out of their asses to hang in the bush leagues while being trained by their bush league reject coach.

I mean Ippo got to like 7th in the world with pretty much only coach's wack ass teachings, so at least he has that.
It's fair to say though that he contributed very little to the general status of his gym and is coasting off of Takaura just obliterating every opponent.
