Denji ain't that dumb and it actually shows that he does have some thinking process for his fights, regardless of how hare brained his ideas maybe. But that is not enough when facing against beings who can actually think and plan.
Power on the other hand got pretty good instincts and is no doubt above humans when it comes to fighting as well. But like an animal, once fear takes over her she will not be an asset to the team no more, which is something you really don't want when you are trying to build a team for going to war against threats that are bigger than your average monster of the week.

where did you get that from, Aki's the one who has to get up close and personal to his target. if he wasn't trained well enough he would have been bisected well before he could have triggered curse. Makima's contract seems to have the best output with the least cost. and she's also apparently capable of Resurrection which Aki doesn't have.

I'm not sure what Fujimoto will turn his character into. But I do know for sure he knows what the typical way to go for Denji's character development. Fire Punch was all about your role. Maybe Chainssawman will have Denji express himself as someone who is entirely self-interested. Not in a way to destroy relationships and hurt himself, but one where he like's food, shelter and Makima and not much else. He has gotten more than what he could have ever hoped to get out of life, now he is on his victory lap.
Second thought. That makes Denji seem kind of aimless. I'm not sure how Fujimoto would make that interesting.

This may all just be a set up to make Aki MC and witness how uncaring the world around him really is. He is in a special division with 2, possibly three uncaring devils, his friends and waif are dead and his life is ending. Maybe the end of the manga will have Aki on his death bed reflecting on how hard his life really was, and the gun devil was only the beginning of that.
Meanwhile Power, Denji and Makima lose interest in him. Actual humans have learned not to care for someone ass suicidal as Aki.

How will Aki cope with his situation? Surely he realizes Himeno's love for him now. He has a limited time to live and is on a team where he is in constant danger. If he is going to be around by the end of the manga he must be doing something, or else he is useless to write about. It's possible he becomes civilian. If he is too unfit to work, he may just be a home for Denji and Power. I don't think he is doing to become a bad person, but then what is left for him?
