I could hold a conversation with Japanese pirates after a childhood of watching one piece

I've been learning Japanese for 6 months and I've been watching throwaway trash SoL and sports anime to do it. I'm saving the anime I know are going to be good for when I have much better comprehension. Luckily I've only watched a dozen good shows before learning Japanese.

Learning Japanese just because you enjoy the pop culture, is not a good reason to learn the language.
A better reason to learn Jap would be if you are going to live in Japan or business reasons.

Ore no chinpo wa dekai.

Ohio gozai-masu. Ore wa nippon junketsu. Me ruv you rong time and why the fuck do I even bother... We'll never learn japanese 100%...

The One piece pirates have some of the most extensive swearing in anime/manga.
At least whatever counts as swearing for the japanese.

HMMMM I AM GOIRNG TO GET A HAMBULEGEL AT MAKUDONARUDOSU

Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.

I'm a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Japan!

Watch Terrace house, for a more accurate representation of how normal Japs articulate.

>for a more accurate representation of how normal Japs articulate.
lol that's not important.

Plus it’s a good show. I recommend OND first.

You're not going to be able to make friends or have good natural conversations with Japs if you speak like a programmed robot.

You can listen to more natural sounding Japanese when you want to start conversing. It's not something you need to prioritize to learn the language. At all.

I'm soured on all of them after one of the stars talked about how forced/scripted a lot of it is. And you could kinda already tell. Coincidentally there's always a new thing two members have to gossip to each other about, and they can't do it at the house. They have to go out to eat.

I don’t think he plans on speaking Japanese, just listen to it. He is in for a rude awakening when he realizes that you have to speak and engage in social situations in order to pick up language.

>you have to speak and engage in social situations in order to pick up language.
you have no idea what you're talking about

I doubt there is anyone retarded enough they couldn't have at least picked up the basic phrases.

Yes, I do. Good luck though.

don't need luck. it's already well known that input is all that's necessary to reach a high level of comprehension thanks to krashen's input hypothesis. and of course, all the people who have reached a high level through input.

Why is there no Japanese thread on Yea Forums?

Yea Forums has no respectable appreciators of japanese culture, just weebs.

>wanting conversations with 3D piggus
>wanting to learn nipponese for conversation rather than japanese media consumption

You are going to learn the language, but you'll be speaking like an absolute sperg/robot with anyone you'll ever get to use it on. If you want to simply read/watch then I suppose you'll be fine, but language's purpose is to communicate.

>Spending several months to learn a language, just to apply it for a minor facet.

Mods exiled them years ago

>several months
LOL try years. The only way you can get the language less than a year is if you are fully immersed and actually living day-to-day in Japan.

obviously in order to get good at speaking you need to practice speaking. sort of a pointless thing to mention

The whole conversation revolves around the learners lack of caring to speak it in social situations.

yea the whole conversation is about how someone who doesn't want to speak will not be good at speaking and thus doesn't need to practice speaking

Japan also has a lot of different dialects with minor but noticeable differences. Like how New Zealanders, Australians, and Canadians, speak differently as well as the Americans and British with their many accents

>is if you are fully immersed
Yea.
>and actually living day-to-day in Japan.
Nah.

But 1 year is still too short. 2-3 years is a better estimate for high fluency. Less if you're just looking to understand some basic media you like.

When i think about it. I think Japs are still learning their alphabets well into adulthood.

Anime makes for a very poor language learning tool. You should practice with reality tv, like the other guy said, and also game shows.

わたしはゲイ

user nobody is learning either of the kana past the age of like 4. Kanji is not an alphabet

あたしは女ですわ

>Anime makes for a very poor language learning tool.
How do you feel about the skill of this speaker (Matt, the younger one)?
youtube.com/watch?v=ZEVzHpAZDNM
He learned primarily through anime his first 3 years of study. He later shadowed live-action content to improve his speaking.

>game shows
For regular talk? no. For carousing in a bar? yes

A person born and raised in Japan is a master at speaking their native tongue. Confusion over a complicated writing system =/= Struggling with your first 1st language.

Writing systems are for recording speech, but are not an integral part of the actual language itself.

VAs go to vocalization school.

VAs do not represent the speech of normal japanese people.

They represent a better speech, untrained asian languages sound awful.

Why would you wanna listen to normal people? Do you think people wanna listen to you talk and mutter ummm ahhhh hmmm all day?

zehahaha

The comment chain wasn't about what your autistic ears want to hear. It's about speaking natural conversation with people.

>natural conversation
Bitch please, just because everyone in Japan has a polite outside tone which literally has its own terminology that has no equivalent to in western culture, doesn't mean every nip talks like a drone all their lives.

Why don't you actually try living there and getting to know them? If you weren't some pasty cracker who is too socially inept to even make a single friend maybe you'd realize the nips tend to unwind in private. Ever heard nip school girls talking while shopping when barely anyone is around? Don't even fucking pretend like they don't imitate anime, the only reason they wouldn't do it in front of you is because their radar has detected a freak like you.

>CD rack
>Old school television
>That interior

You can tell this picture is pretty ancient, like early 2000's.

Why does it matter how how nip school girls talk with their friends? It's not like i'm going to try to cut into their conversation unlike you who has some creepy fixation on how school girls like to sperg out privately with their friends.
Also What do you think i meant by natural conversation? formal speech alone? Japs can speak in a gregarious way without going all anime. Otherwise it would be like me trying to speak like a cowboy when i'm hanging out with my friends.

>atashi
like you'd ever hear that in real conversation.
