What a fucking chad.
This right here is pure kino.
Literally the most amazing and beautiful moment of the entire Evangelion franchise

Are you underage?
Nah this was pure antieva fanfiction shit. Only plebs think it had any merit.
On the other hand it led to 3.0, now THAT is some pure eva kino.
>chad
back in my day, we called it GAR
People who liked this scene deserved to be disappointed with 3.33
>be Shinji
>drive a terrifying war machine
>every time I get in, I'm consumed with an unquenchable destructive instinct and a primal rage
>all these assholes tell me I have to do it
>(well I could elect not to, but then this girl with a broken body has to, and I'm not about to let her do that, I've got principles)
>this red-haired bitch thinks she's the hottest of shit
>have to save her ass all the time
>it doesn't get any less terrifying
>still consumed with unending rage whenever I'm in the cockpit
>dad tries to get me to kill the red-haired bitch
>she's a bitch but I'm not about that, like I said, I've got principles
>finally decide I'm fucking done
>leave
>nobody can do anything, the red-haired bitch is in a coma, the broken hottie gets eaten, the absolute mad lass can't do anything either
>fuck it, I'm going back in
>get in the robot
>kill the thing
>get my broken hottie back
...
>wake up
>everybody tells me not to get back in the robot
What the fuck?
I unironically agree. Shinji deserved to man up and do something right for once. Except of course Anno had to take that away from him, too, because no one is allowed to be happy in his shitshow.
I loved this scene and also loved 3.33.
Woah, kyubbi mode, so chad!
He screams really hard, and pulls super power out of his ass, so based woah.
more prove eva is retarded battle shounen shit
>Shinji deserved to man up
that's not how it works. more testiment to how shit eva is.
>we want the guren lagann audience
Worked surprisingly well. Plus Utena rehash.
Engrish preaz
3.0 is the fanfiction, with everything related to WILLE, Asuka with super-powers, Misato being a giant bitch, the gay piano, tons of randomly introduced threats and concepts, and most of all an unnecessary timeskip with half assed explanation for one of the characters not aging.
2.0 was just dumb pandering.
>an unnecessary timeskip with half assed explanation for one of the characters not aging.
The lore explanation is irrelevant, it's the metaphore that is interesting.
Being a metaphor doesn't excuse shit writing.
I do not give a damn if 3.0 is meant to be meta commentary about the series, if the story is bad, then it is still bad.
Tell me user, what is this metaphor you speak of?
>Chad
>Kino
I liked the moment too, but this thread is clearly bait
A feature length film about asuka getting cucked by Rei as romantic heroine and Mari as action heroine.
Apparently, that's kino and a mark of genius.
At least that's how people delude themselves, just to make themselves feel better by looking down on everybody who didn't liked it.
>1.0 + 2.0 = The Force Awakens
>3.0 = The Last Jedi

Why am I seeing this lately?
As bad as you may think the rebuilds are, they are still worlds better than the shit that is Disneys star wars
It's also frustrating as hell that nobody will tell him why he shouldn't go back into the robot. What the fuck do you think will happen next if you don't tell him anything?
If Shinji doesn't end up happy at the end of 4.0 I'm gonna make the Tokyo gas attack look like a joke (in minecraft)
screencap this post
>2.0 was just dumb pandering.
2.0 was fun subverting.
FTFY
Reminder that the Rebuild staff expect you to fully side with Willie and see Shinji as a selfish brat worse than x1000 Hitlers
Reminder that Megumi Ogata suffered from an emotional breakdown during the recording of Kaworu's death and Akira Ishida comfort her by telling her it wasn't her fault but Shinji's fault.
Reminder that Yuko Miyamura's favorite 3.0 scene was pic related
Reminder that it worked with Japan and a good portion of the west, including many anons
two nukes weren't enough
>Reminder that the Rebuild staff expect you to fully side with Willie
I don't side with them! Misato is an out of character prick in the movie.
>Reminder that Megumi Ogata suffered from an emotional breakdown
Wait what? I had no idea about that one.
>Shinji going full retard is seen as a GOOD moment by people
>Misato being a giant bitch
The woman caused 3rd Impact by goading an emotionally broken child. Of course she's gonna be carrying that weight.
I hope in 3.0+1.0 Shinji kills all of WILLE, or at least most of them die by Gendo's hand.
>The woman caused 3rd Impact by goading an emotionally broken child.
The woman also indirectly caused the next impact by not telling that same emotionally broken child why he shouldn't pilot the robot.
>The woman caused 3rd Impact by goading an emotionally broken child. Of course she's gonna be carrying that weight.
Except the narrative put the entire blame on Shinji.
>off topic reply
>derailing
>shitposting
Are you?
>anything from rebuild
>good
Don't get your expectations high. There are 90% of chances this will end with Shinji erasing himself because he doesn't sell, I mean for atoning his sins.
The metaphor of how they are unable to move on. Obviously.
Last rebuild is literally going to be Shinji getting killed off to end the 'old' Eva for good just like Anno wanted.
Zeruel fight has been the best part of the Rebuilds. Fuckin lazer hands n shit
Halcyon days
It is the highest grossing tv anime film of all time
Evangelion 4.0: Do (Not) Get In the Fucking Robot
Nigga, its produced by the people who created Gurren Lagann, more or less.
That was stupid, especially since they gave enough of a fuck to go get him in the first place. You’d think Toji’s sister would’ve at least broke. It down for him since she seemed to like him from saving her as a little girl and being her (deceased?) big brother’s friend.
I've only watched rebuild 1 and 2
Is the third one worth it?
I'm hearing mostly mixed to bad opinions on it
It is the best one, but that isn't saying much.
They’re right but you still can’t blame Shinji 100% because he wasn’t doing it intentionally and if someone had just explained what happened, what his Dad wanted to do, and why he shouldn’t pilot an Eva again he would have cooperated 100% - but I suppose they were themselves flawed characters who weren’t reacting logically due to the stress they were under
>That was stupid, especially since they gave enough of a fuck to go get him in the first place.
I think they were just getting Unit-01 to use it as an engine for their retarded flying angel ship.
And then Unit-01 barfed Shinji out at them without warning. Possibly barfed 2 other things out first before he came out.
They said “it’s the curse of the Eva’s.”
Meaning Evangelion pilots can’t age due to synchronization and LCL exposure. It doesn’t necessarily contradict canon since they always die before it would come up otherwise.
Except for Yui’s explanation for wanting to merge with an Eva, but I suppose it’s not outright contradicting since she was to old to pilot one and less likely to get killed by being an Eva instead of a child with everlasting/prolonged youth.
It’s pretty good, user. Don’t listen to the contrarians. I think most of them just don’t like the direction the narrative took/ the reality of a post-Impact world when they might’ve been hoping for more fan service or their personal theories about where it was going to go
Possibly, but they had to be aware they’d get him back since when Asuka is getting BTFO by the tentacle things she says “Come on, do something to help me Idiot Shinji!”
I wonder what makes Unit 1 such a good power source. Being the only Eva that’s awakened so far you’d think they’d rather leave it in stasis if they weren’t concerned about Shinji
>“Come on, do something to help me Idiot Shinji!”
That is just a Pavlovian response from her.
Voted TROS because there's such a ridiculous amount of lore and convoluted mysticism stuffed into 3.0 that it's virtually impossible to conclude it in a satisfying manner. It's either going to be a completely incomprehensible action shlock or extremely exposition-heavy, full of techno babble pseudo intelectual shlock. Star Wars just needs to be fun, action packed and semi coherent.
>It’s pretty good
Shiro Sagisu saves the movie from being a worthless piece of trash.
>Don’t listen to the contrarians
Which basically means that user shouldn't listen to you.
Well, if that’s you’re theory but I really don’t buy that, especially since she would’ve had 14 years without him having to rely on Marie, Weele, or just herself for help and only like 2-3 days where Shinji and her actually piloted Evas together
I guess that one comes down to perspective because contrarian is normally someone who dislikes something because it’s popular and the movie was a hit with the general public, but in this thread I would be the odd man out
So I guess: Don’t drink the haterade
Funny how both directors claim to have pissed the fans off on purpose.
>It's a deconstruction!
>YOU'RE the bad guy. Not me!
>A contrarian is a person that takes up a contrary position, especially a position that is opposed to that of the majority
3.0 was bashed left and right, every time people have to rant about it, the list never ends, there's no shortage of pointing issues with the writing. When it's time to defend it, things get a lot more vague, you got some argument like "its atmosphere is more eva like!" or simply calling others for not liking it for superficial reasons (those who defend it can only use superficial reasons to support it, amazing isn't it?).
What's wrong with the german word for "movie"?
Not really, only pussies here don't like it. Which is not a surprise because if Eva came out today you wouldn't like it either.
And? The story is objectively garbage in 3.0, and if you’re a director or voice actor having breakdowns at work, you have deeper problems unrelated to the project you’re on. Rebuild 3.0 ruined the story and made characters act contrary to their established personalities, for no good reason. I somewhat enjoyed the original show, EoE, and the first two rebuilds but 3.0 really sealed it for me that Eva is about trying to be deep without actually being deep. I don’t care if anons or YouTube neckbeards praise it so much, it’s overrated pseudo-intellectual garbage.
This is exactly the kind of things I was talking about, you don't have any solid argument to defend 3.0, just superficial stuff, so you resort to shitting on others and you come up with nonsensical comparisons to divert attention, hoping that people are too stupid to notice.
Guy you were responding to here
I like it because it shows what happens after the third Impact instead of just resetting everything again. It totally took me by surprise when they jumped right into at the end of 2 like that, it was a ballsy and satisfying way to take the story.
I would have also liked a more subdued character driven story about Shinji and Asuka surviving alone in the apocalypse but I enjoyed this too. And while airships and whatnot aren’t exactly par for the course with Evangelion they’re not too out of place in a world of giant mechas and aliens, so that didn’t break my immersion.
Misato being the new captain after they split from NERV made some sense since she was the pilot Captain and everyone below SEELE and Gendo basically deferred to her on a majority of issues anyways. One might expect her to become an emotional wreck following things getting even worse but as we saw in EoE she can actually be a badass when shot hits the fan too, so it’s more like when the world settles down and goes to day to day normal that she becomes overwhelmed with her depression instead of when she’s in the thick of it. And everyone opposing NERV when the truth comes out made sense except maybe Ritsku though she did turn on Gendo in the end I’m the original as well.
Really my main complaint is that they separated him from WEELE and had him spend a chunk of the movie moping around NERV with blank Rei and Kaworu rather than interacting with Misato, Toji’s sister, and Asuka more before that happened, but that seems like a minor nitpick and desire for fan service with my more preferred characters than an actual narrative failing.
So, that’s my defense of the movie. What didn’t you like about it outside of “everyone acted in a way that made me mad at them because they were mean.” ?
>I wonder what makes Unit 1 such a good power source.
It gained the S2 engine after consuming Zeruel. NERV had been trying to make an S2 engine, and this experimentation is the whole reason that Unit04 exploded and destroys an entire NERV base. This happens in both rebuild and the original TV series. NERV keeps their data in Germany and produces the Mass Production models which don't need an umbilical because of said S2 engine.
Asuka >= Misato > Rei
3.33 > 1.11 > 2.22
This is the OBJECTIVE Eva tier list.
I unironically think Anno wanted everyone to hate 3.33 as much as possible
The characters, the plot, the new artstyle, the new eva abilities, all of those were so bad I refuse to think it wasnt on purpose
I have no idea how they managed to make Misato a bitch and Asuka an even bigger bitch, dont even get me started on Mari
i personally love the fact Anno made a shit movie on purpose, it's like he's a little kid throwing a fit
I actually like the looser expressionistic artstyle in 3.0. And the extra time to build Kaworu. That’s about it.
Asuka > Rei >>> Misato
Don't you dare put Asuka and Rei anywhere near the same scrap heap as Mishito.
Kaworu was the only good character imo, the piano part was still kinda retarded
I think Anno made it a point to completely subvert and shit on fans who wanted Eva to basically be a huge waifu war between Asuka and Rei and for the fans that perpetuated the 'Shinji is a bitch! Get in the robot lol!' memes.
In 2.22 Rei is your poki poki waifu who learns to love the MC.
Asuka isn't all that ambiguous anymore and goes full tsundere wanting the MC's cock, exemplified by her actually cooking for him and trying to play it off when questioned by Misato. Hell Asuka, even gets huge character development before she pilots the new Eva when she admits to Misato she feels at ease when talking to others and maybe she needs to stop rejecting others so she can be alone.
Shinji literally goes full TTGL at the end. Gendo actually tries to connect with his son.
Then in 3.33 he completely takes a dump on all the people that WANTED that fan service whom completely missed the point of the anti-escapist message. Asuka is a 28 year old gnarled war vet who hates Shinji for being gutless, Rei loses all her character development and becomes a literal blank slate, Gendo is back to being cold, Shinji is back to whining and questioning his motives and reason for existing.
On top of that I thought the whole metaphor for the 'curse of Eva' was cool as shit. I honestly loved 3.33, but I can see why a lot of other people don't. It's really divisive and I'm not just gonna say other people only don't like it because they are brainlets or they don't get it.
Shinji was the only god character because he was the only one asking logical questions almost on a meta level. As if Anno was asking himself "why the writing is so bad?" through Shinji. Kaworu was just as bad as everyone else.
this
At least Kaworu wasnt a huge cunt
Needs more Mari
Nah, watching some Rebuild recently got me to appreciate Shinji's character again in a different way. People in the past were just "Lol if Shinji just mans up and fugs all these bitches and destroys everything with the robot shit would work out, if I was Eva shit would be different here", those people didn't understand the underlying part of Shinji's character so Anno went out of his way to show why that was wrong in the newer shit.
>Shinji is passive in the original series
>Everything gets fucked up because of it
>Shinji decides to end everything in EoE because he sees no point to being alive anymore, and hates everything else on some level because he subconsciously internalizes the fuck out of every horrible thing they say to him and see them as rejecting him at all times, feels he has no place in the world. He's a lot like his dad in a strange way it turned out
>But its a fuck up again because at the very end he decides against it, but the world is forever fucked now so there's no point in him making that choice. Either way shit's all fucked now.
>Shinji tries to be proactive in Rebuild
>Every thing he does is a fuck up, and every choice he makes just makes things worse and worse. Everyone still hates him regardless
>Everything Shinji does is destined to be a fuck up, chances are he's going to end the world somehow.
>Shinji represents some kind of depression where everything you do coming or going only leads to terrible results
>Nothing he does matters. Hell maybe it would be better if he wasn't there in the first place, none of the other pilots can seem to trigger Armageddon quite that easily.
>Everyone else in the series is also a fuck up
Doesn't matter what anyone does in Eva world, its destined to be a fuck up because that's the nature of their world. Shinji manning up never was going to fix anything.
Instead he was an idiot who got tricked, again just like in the series.
Even worse taste than Asukafags
When you think about it, the Rebuilds are kinda like a representation of what Evangelion is as a franchise:
1.0 = Evangelion as it is.
2.0 = What people wanted from Eva.
3.33 = Anno’s views on Evangelion.
3.0 + 1.0 = Possibly a combination of how Anno sees Evangelion and what it actually is.
I agree. because it was different and new, whereas 3.0 is return to old concepts and shinji is a horrible combination of stupid and insistent and nobody wants to explain everything and you don't get the thing you want, an explanation as to what happened during near third impact until halfway through the movie. that's ridiculous
Evangelion is committed to realism to the extent that family members look biologically related. Shinji is a perfect composite of Gendo and Yui’s features, but in a natural, effortless way - he’s not a random synthesis of “gendo’s eyes” and “yui’s chin” or whatever. Rei looks like a young Yui, just enough to color Naoko immediately suspicious, but not enough to give Gendo away to the rest of nerv/gehrin. Ritsuko and Naoko share the same power brow and pointed chin
Rebuild isn’t interested in having relatives’ looks cohere. Sakura and Toji don’t look related - Toji’s looks are quite pronounced (flat chin, dark skin) compared to Sakura’s boringly petite and pale features so this is especially heinous. Anno is on record saying his only goal for Sakura was for her to be “cute”, so maybe he thought he couldn’t succeed if she looked too much like Toji. There is something particularly off putting about fanservice in rebuild. Maybe I'm misremembering but in the series it always was a little bit subtler, a little bit more tasteful. Slightly sensual images of the women. Rebuilds are mainly concerned with "how can we make them all even cuter?" It seems infantile even compared to the TV show who had its own share of gag comedy.
He gave Rei a really hot plugsuit,no way anyone could hate the movie
It wasnt just 'being mean'. They were acting not only OOC but completely stupid to make the plot work. Misato had always been more parent to shinji than his real ones, yet she couldn't take five minutes to explain shit?
what has kowaru been doing this entire time? where did misato get the funds for all the shit she has? are the other countries fine with her stealing shit from nerv? it appears they've only fought one angel between movies?
so many things left unexplored so we could get the autistic meme of leaving the viewer clueless for half the movie
Nah, the new plugsuits don't compare with the old ones. The old ones were tight but still looked like clothig and had enough detail and texture. The new ones are just flat lines drawn over their bodies. Also too many chevrons.
Jokes on you, that's not Mari.
When has Shinji ever been explained shit though? He's repeatedly shown to know the least of all the pilots. Even Kensuke repeatedly shows to be better informed than Shinji.
I always assumed more would be explained to him if he had more time. There's only a few minutes between them fighting the pillars of light Angel thing and then getting attacked again by the Rei clone, and during the time in between these fights they had important shit to do like maintenance on the ship to make sure they wouldn't get butt blasted if they had another close call fight.
Honestly though Shinji is stupid but can do basically anything with motivation. If everyone around him hates him, he'll reject the world and want to destroy it because he can't find any happiness with other people. If someone likes him, he'll try to save them even if it means sacrificing the world and fucking everything up in the process. Whether it was Kaowru or Rei, he'd fuck up almost anything if they just asked.
Considering how important he is because of this factor, NERV or whoever can realize that everyone around him being a dick to him causes him to go off the deep end and act like a school shooter, which is a big deal since they also force him to pilot the strongest thing in the world. NERV can hire someone to just sit around Shinji and mentally jack him off constantly so he'd do whatever the fuck they wanted him to do since he's easily controlled. All he really needs is one fake relationship to do whatever in life.
Just program a version of Rei to sit around him and act like she loves him, and then when its time have her tell him to pilot the robot.
>it was different and new
3.0 is bad at least in terms of the exposition, I agree. But anyone who saw 2.0 in 2009 knew that it was Rebuild of Gurren Lagann
What the fuck were the pillars of light?
I only saw random laser beams in the middle of the ocean and incoherent CGI. I cannot actually recall any details beyond that.
>It gained the S2 engine after consuming Zeruel
Wait, when did it get the S2 engine in the Rebuilds? I know in the original, it (or she I guess), ate Zeruel and took the engine.
I don't remember 100%, but I think them powering the flywheel for the aircraft created some shockwave that dissipated the pillars, and then when they were flying away the Angel latched onto the wings with some arm tentacles from the core units in the ocean. Then the airship went full engine power and kept flying up to pull it out of the ocean and then blasted the fuck out of them.
I feel like it's a lot easier to get what is going on if you watch it without trying to read the subs at the same time because there are a lot of things happening at the same time and it is kind of hard to grasp it all when you are constantly reading down and then looking at the visuals.
To be fair, when you've got an overpowered character like him you've got to kill him off or have him job for every fight or else he'll just fix everything
I like the contrast of black and white
I think he was just waiting for “things to line up.” Or something.
Misato and WEELE must just be scavengers. The whole world is basically a wasteland, or at least their immediate area around Japan. So they must be kind of flying in the wilderness so to speak.
Yeah, makes sense.
That would be the best thing. If Gendo gave enough of a shit about his son to take an active interest in him instead of him being a second thought and even then just a means to an end he might’ve realized this and taken preventative measures to keep him under control.
It was basically four circles that shot lasers, like jellyfish type things that had latched onto their wings trying to pull them into the ocean. So they flew upwards at full blast to lift them out of the water, then spun around to disorient them and forcibly stopped themselves with their reverse thrusters to make them all crash into each other.
After they were grouped together in one spot and even more disoriented they trained all their guns on them and fired full blast before they could come to and start attacking them again.
They literally loudly shout exactly what they’re about to do before it happens, then they show you it happening afterwords.
Yeah I understood all of that, just didn't feel like typing it all out cause laziness. It was actually a really fun sequence
Checks out
I still feel no shame for liking the fan bait in 2.0
Are you on a German forum, retard?
that would be so kino to diskuss kino on the kinoforüm
new for evangelion i mean. i remember people were saying, "maybe anno's view on life improved since he became rich and famous, and it's reflecting in eva"
and then 3.33 happened.
Hnnnngh
Pretty much this. This is Anno stomping his foot in another tantrum and spitting in the face of everyone who wished to fix things, through fanfics or otherwise.
>No! This is MY world! You will not improve Shinji! You will not make them happy! No no no no no no!
would you eat her food?
I would eat her shit
Okay, but why do that or cook like that, tho?
because Yea Forums crossboarders like eva, I guess.
Sabisu, sabisu
There is a chance her food is poisonous.
Asuka, no matter the iteration, is absolute BEST girl.
So, can we agree with OP and say the this was the most beautiful scene of Evangelion ever?
I think he is talking about how Shinji manned up and "saved" Rei
Could be worse.
Alright OP, just because you bought up that scene, I went back and watched it again.
I really have to give everyone who worked on the OST MAJOR props, that song they played during instrumentality hit me just as hard as Komm susser Todd in EOE.
based
It sucks how Shinji is the only decent cook in the series, and it's not like he's making amazing food.
>his teacher still gave him a failing grade.
Absolutely based.
Well maybe the Rebuild Rei and Asuka wouldn't be so bad if they didn't keep cutting themselves, as shown by how many bandages they quickly obtain.
You ruin your goddamn meal if you are BLEEDING into it all the time!
Like Rei, she probably doesn't give a shit about all the blood.
>Fuck up the world to save a single girl to prove to her that she's not replaceable
>Wake up
>She's been replaced
>Also she's your mom
Guess he made a bad call. Just makes me remember that both Asuka and Rei aren't good choices for him in any real way.
>Shinji is the only decent cook in the series
Come on now.
There is nothing wrong with choosing Asuka
it's a brand of hot sauce
The entire rebuild series was created simply to prove that Reifags are retarded and deserve to be unhappy
Will the next movie pull off another planet sized world reset?
Feels more like it was created to show that (you) and everyone else deserves to be unhappy.
Aside from the people who just like Mari for fucking shit up, is there any characterfag satisfied with how 2.0 and 3.0 went and ended up?
It was a petty tantrum against Rei and Reifags because
>muh escapism
You're either baiting or literally braindead
Based Anno dabbing on elonnafags
It was cool when I watched it but looking back it defeats the purpose
3.0 is simply aggressive towards viewer. Sitting through one single scene for 30 minutes while constantly going "wtf" is not good idea no matter what your fart sniffing tells you. It feels like movie doesn't want you to watch it, and it doesn't get any better.
Asukafags and Misatofags get to fall back on EoE, Reifags literally have nothing.
I think the answer to why 3.33 is like that is obvious. Anno was in a bad place, channeled that feeling into his movie regardless of what was set up for the original plan (It's clear that what we got is completely different from the preview) and he focused on portraying the idea and feeling of helplessness, self-hatred and guilt without understanding why you felt guilty. I hope Anno can provide a satisfying conclusion for the Rebuilds with the final one, as he did in End of Eva (although I think the only way to see EoE as positive is if you add the original episodes 25 and 26 in between Instrumentality and Shinji's rejection of it).
If it isn't a time loop in some way though, I'll consider it a popular fanfic, nothing more, because the only way the characters we see in Rebuild make sense is if they have some kind of residual memories of the OG timeline. Otherwise they're doing a bunch of shit that has no strong reason to be done.
Reifags have the manga, baring the resolution of 3rd Impact.
The artifacts in that image gave me eye cancer. Streamfags should be gassed.
and anno hated doing it, the crybaby fag.
I think anno wanted to make a point that having shinji man up at all like that would mean the end of the world, or something to a point where shinji doing this get treated like he did in 3.0. However I think anno was just being an edgy asshole and had to bend over back wards to make shinji hated. It just wasnt believable in the end. You could give reason why like, the resistance needed someone to blame for things they are now, if so they should have blamed misato who is the fucking leader and ritsuko especially. Blaming a kid for doing what he can to save a friend? Jeeze common anno, shinji didnt even end the world, it was eva 06 and the angel that infected it.
The moral of the story is that he should have just run away instead of causing N3I
If the movies had ended there, it would be a happy ending.
I still think the original Rei and Shinji are in Unit-01, and the one we see in 3.0 is a clone.
3rd impact would have happen if he did run away.
The real fucked up thing is that they talk mad shit about Shinji for causing the state of the world when he didn't even cause shit. He started Near Third Impact, which we knew for a fact only trashed Tokyo 3 and split the Geofront open. Third Impact, the only force that could've created all of the shitty clones of Unit-01, turn everything around Hakone into bakelite looking shit and fucked everything worldwide was almost certainly caused by Kaworu's ass fucking up with Unit 06 and the 12th Angel that got fused into it.
I actually like 3.0. I thought I would hate it based on everything people write about it and disliking Kaworu(and liking Misato and Asuka who barely got any screen time outside of combat and were seemingly acting like unreasonable cunts) but it didn't happen.
While the Wille people seem to act retarded in the beginning I can kind of see where they are coming from at that moment with the multiple fake Shinjis they have recovered, it being a tense situation and they themselves still dealing with the fact that Shinji is back and wondering how to handle it. Them being attacked soon after it before they had the chance to chill out and explain later didn't help. It was almost like they were just acting demonstratively tough out of some frustration the cause of which is not fully revealed to the viewer at this point. Misato didn't kill him when she had the chance and people around her were not at all surprised(Ritsuko was maybe a bit disappointed but she is Ritsuko after all)
I liked the portrayal of Shinji's descent into despair too. Having all this shit dumped on him, getting the false hope of fixing everything to the point where he ignored any warnings and just wanted to go through with it. Fucking up and losing Kaworu. It's the one moment in the whole franchise where his almost catatonic state at the end is justified and even the biggest 'shinji is a whiny pussy I would love to be in his place' memers can't really question it.
I think one of the issues people have with it is that they interpret it as though the meta narrative of the movie itself(and not just the characters in it) is criticizing Shinji for his actions and putting the blame on him and I don't really see it like that. Maybe I'm wrong but I think this is up for personal interpretation and I guess I'm glad that this is mine because I don't have to seethe about it like so many others do.
>Kaworu's ass fucking up with Unit 06 and the 12th Angel that got fused into it.
06 was made to be autonomous, so thats how the angel got into the eva and controled it.
>t with the multiple fake Shinjis they have recovered
wait what? i dont remember this.
but if anything would you still pull out the spears if it ment fixing things?
Yeah, but he brought it to them, and he should know that if an Angel gets deep into an Eva, really bad shit starts to happen. Like what happened with Rei II in that episode before Kaworu in the OG.
yes its kind of stupid. thats why i think anno wasnt hapoy with making 3.0. He was emotionally drained or what ever. If he was physically drained i would understand that, but I think what was happening was he decided he didnt want an entire movie with out shinji but had to make up some crap to blame shinji for n3rd impact. it was weak to be honest.
So i just watched the original NGE and it was okay, even very good sometimes, but boy it was PRETENSIOUS AS FUCK.
>3.0 is simply aggressive towards viewer. Sitting through one single scene for 30 minutes while constantly going "wtf" is not good idea no matter what your fart sniffing tells you.
Literally the last 2-3 episodes of Neon Geon and the whole End of Evangelion, this whole series jumps off a clif consistency wise at the end but people praise it as "innovative" and "deep" when its just bullshit put together
Reminder that 3.0 was going to have a different plot judging from the preview at the end of 2.0.
Anno and the production team scratched it and rewrote it mid way.
youtube.com
So Shinji is now a chad?
How much are they going to twist and distort Evangelion in order to conveniently hide the ugly truth of how much the original sucked?
So they are at the end of Evangelion with 3.0 right? So what is 4.0 about?
>his teacher still gave him a failing grade
Thats really it huh? We had this conversation ourselves, multiple times, and the conclusion is quick and simple
>ironic shitposting still is just shitposting
And making a bunch of terrible movies is still making a bunch of terrible movies, no matter the intention. Maybe 3.0 really is the TLJ of Evangelion.
its coming we are going to get a preview on the 7th.
you know i am starting to think that when they froze shinji they had to take out the spear right? so what if unit 01 started up again and caused more damage than we thoughy.
So which is canon original or Rebuild
original and rebuild if they are connected if not then original and rebuild is its own thing.
where are the MODS.
Eva threads need to get pruned with the shitty SnK and narutard threads.
If the theories are right, rebuilds are a sequel due to the ancestral aliens putting time loops behind the scenes. Explains how Shinji is more confident unlike Neon Genesis.
Or Anno wants money , streamlined the series into generic action mecha and puts minor easter eggs randomly.
it's not explicitly stated but shinji is labeled '3' and his name is written with a question mark, so it seems like that's the implication
Oh really, I never thought of that. I just had a thought, if there are multiple shinjis and then its possible it isnt a time loop.
yeah it's a pretty quick shot iirc. there's also the fact that willie has apparently been encountering rei clones regularly enough for asuka to recognize one and its generation at a glance, so there's extra reason for them not to trust someone that looks like him right away
if there were more shinjis why havent we seen them recovered or something. I dont understand.
which movie is this in?
3? right at the end
is this in the very end?
Yeah when Asuka meets rei when she goes and recovers shinji
Anno literally made 3.0 to challenge the fanbase for no other reason than his petty ego compelling him to do it out of spite in a complete Rian Johnson subverting expectations way.
The main reason people go and call Anno for producing a fanfiction tier movie is because you can clearly see that he threw away any integrity just to let his bitterness reshaped the whole thing from scratch.
You can tell that this movie was made by someone who had no conviction about it, no motivation making it and a very clear disdain for his audience that he wasn't even trying to hide.
When he made Shin Godzilla, it was as obvious that he was being the complete opposite, he was excited and inspired and it showed in the final product.
He even went to say that Godzilla gave him back the will to work on Evangelion again.
It's obvious to anyone that Anno snapped at some point after 2.0. Either he was fed up of Eva after working on it for so long, or some bad shit happened and fucked his mindset. What's obvious is that he couldn't care less about 3.0 and was simply trying to come up with things that would motivate him into bothering making the movie, all the nadia callbacks hint at him wanting to work on something else.
Kaworu was waiting for Shinji. The world has basically ended, you do not need funds at that point, you just need manpower and resources. I doubt any nation-states still exists. The angels arrival times have never been explained. For example we are never told why the angels waited 15 years after the second impact to attack NERV.
from what I gather, if the rebuilds still operate on the same standard as the show and video game, is that when lilith arrived on earth 10000000 years ago and after adam, then lilliths lance was destroyed in the 1st impact which made adams spear take adam out which put the angles in hibernation. After the 2nd impact the angels woke from that slumber and continued to develope for 15 years. thats my guess.
I don't think the rebuild would operate on the same standard since there are two lances in the rebuilds. I have to assume that the spear Kaworu uses at the end of 2.22 is Adam's spear, because were else would it have come from.
nigger if you were in front of my right now I would've put a bullet in your eye
Yeah! So we can wank to our 800 moeshit threads XD
Cringe
well there are 4 spears if you check this out it assumes there are 4 adams and we are going through the 5th
Ok let's speak realistically here
How can 3.0+1.0 actually fix the mistakes 3.0 caused? I know you cant fix everything but how would you make it passable?
revealing what happened during the near and 3rd impact.
show how nerv staff got incarcerated which also led to 3rd impact.
You can't, unless the next movie goes full "forget it happened, 3.0 was just a bad fever dream". There are bullshit lore additions that went completely unexplained and now are hanging around the franchise's neck like an albatross, ruined character arcs and so on.
why not? why not reveal it with flash backs?
More kaworu fanservice, give asuka and rei bigger tits.
"It was all a nightmare, feel free to skip it."
It had merit, it lead to 3.0.
>Ladies, I've just been watching this Japanimation cartoon. Apparently what nerds really like is if the strong female captain of the spaceship doesn't explain her plans to the hotshot pilot. In fact, more or less blanks him.
>Hmmm. Interesting maybe we could...
yeah hard to swallow but when there are obvious plot holes they stop caring or they are really bad or both.
I just tried to find it through screen shots and I couldnt see anything that suggests what you are saying. All auska says is you are a batch of rei ayanmi types right?
4.0 will just be a random incoherent mess were everyone dies and inbetween there will be random screenshots of death threats sent to anno and random eva shitpost screencaps that are read by seiyuus while you can hear anno laughing in the background
It needs to be front-loaded with the10 minutes of wish fulfilment they're going to show off at Anime Expo
I now fully expect this
You know, of all Rebuilds, I think I dislike second one most. Not even whole movie - just one particular scene that just shits on everything - TV series, rebuilds themselves, Anno, viewers, you name it.
First time Shinji doesn't want to get into robot, before sniping angel using all of Japan's electricity. He is obviously demotivated and frustrated, so Misato decides to give him a new reason to fight. What's that reason? She literally takes him to one most fucking secret area in whole NERV and shows him a fucking Lilith. And Shinji's reaction?
"Well fine, I guess I'll do it, bitch."
Shit you see is so fucking OOC it doesn't fit any kind of Shinji there is or could be.
TV Series Shinji would most likely go full NOPE and terrified, since he just learned all of this is happening because there is an angel he has to protect for some crazy reason. Now he has no shitting idea who's wrong and who's right, because seeing angels as "bad guys" is comforting.
"Chad" Shinji would probably consider that this angel is brainwashing everyone and he has to take it out, just because angels are bad, right?
Fanfiction Shinji or someone's self-insert at very least would start asking questions about whole business.
And actual Shinji from Rebuild is just like "Woah, you had angel hidden down there, big fucking surprise, look at all the fucks I don't give about any of this". There's no point continuing watching 2.0 or 3.0 after this shit.
>What a fucking chad.
This is why Anno did 3.0, user. He was trying to make you see. Investing your masculinity in a fictional virgin just because he did something extremely selfish and irresponsible but "it looked cool" is unwise
thats the first movie
funny youshould say that the part where its out of character because I think him rationalizing how its so unfair to put this on him was out of character.
i think that out of character touch was on purpose, I mean if the rebuilds are in a time loop and things degraid over time the repition starts to change
>Rey was meant to be creepy
This is why this whole theory cannot be trusted and those who came up with it are too far up their own smug asses to even check the facts.
This is an old western fandom myth fabricated during the early days of Yea Forums/evageeks. Anno, Hayashibara, and co. have never said anything suggesting the sort (rather, Anno’s described Rei as the ‘most inexpressible’ part of him; Hayashibara remarking similar) - this also evades everything Rei is to justify never considering her beyond the surface level (if rei was supposed to be ‘creepy’, what else is there?)
Rei is existential - Rei is isolation, Rei’s entire narrative gestures heavily at what it means to be a body (”the body as an identity involves resources”) - what it means to be defined by your trauma, physically and psychologically. People don’t relate to Rei because she’s “creepy” (she’s not), people relate to Rei because she’s othered, ostracized, abused, socially inept. Rei was forced into a life of constant-dissociation by an abusive man, a life in which she is a stranger to herself, and pretentious nerds still have the gall to call her ‘creepy’ as if they’re saying something subversive.
There’s nothing enlightened about calling an abused 14 year old girl “creepy”, nothing about Rei is “creepy”, it’s sad and harrowing and existentially-laden.
While this may be true (the time loop shit, I mean), it doesn't really give any excuses to anyone for doing this. Rebuild is 'said' to be standalone work for new generation, isn't it? Then forcing people to carry context from other series is defeating purpose of "New Evangelion".
Also, while I was away, I thought about this a little more, and came to realization that 3.0 actually couldn't really start any other way, at least with same premise. If Misato and everyone else wouldn't act like massive assholes and would actually explain Shinji the situation, one of most likely responses from him would be "Okay", which would break attempt to steal Shinji, and rest of movie.
I imagine him going into same state he is while training after his very first fight - do this, do that, do anything you are told to. Shinji hardly has balls for suicide, but I kinda see him in scene where he gets in some really dangerous situation (like standing on very edge of that flying fortress of theirs) and just thinks about stuff, unconsciously waiting for something to end him.
Actually this way Anno could pour more hatred on Shinji, forcing him to face difficult-to-hide contempt from other members of Weele, and that would actually be better dynamic than forced bonding with gaylord.
I dont think they were trying to make for a new generation they just wanted more money. And anno wanted to add too the aftermath of EoE.
It's a shit meme by Yea Forumsniggers. You might as well ask why Yea Forums tells shitty Sneed threads to go back to where they belong
It seems like that doesn't it. I wondered a lot about what the new/old Nerv logos meant at the time.
My random guess is it turns out event zero of Evangelion is the HIP and its just people working their shit out in the matrix somehow ever since. Just like the viewing public...cue live action shot of empty cinema.
It may sound weird, but original's endings didn't bother me as much as 3.0 did. Sure, it was weird in all ways imaginable, but somehow, it worked, at least for me. 3.0, on the other hand, felt like literal spit in my face, and I honestly don't remember any piece of media making me feel like that. I guess Anno can get some credit for accomplishing this "feat".
In fairness to Anno, the use of mirroring and elaborated repetition is one of his key techniques in Evangelion anyway. If see it/hear it once, you'll see it again happening in a different way perhaps to someone else. He's quite good at this and its one of the things that gives it the feel of thematic depth and a film-makery vibe. It would interest to me to know how conscious he is of doing this but it wouldn't surprise me if the Rebuild is ultimately supposed to be some kind of riff on this.
Because those flashbacks would take up the valuable screen time you need to progress the plot and character development.
But who am I kidding, we will get 40 minutes of pointless action scenes instead.
Al leastbgive is Kaiji's death, Punished Misato evolution and what happened with Asuka.... And... And.... God fucking dammit Anno, there is too much to cover and so little time
Here from Netflix, I take it?
>unless the next movie goes full "forget it happened, 3.0 was just a bad fever dream".
Probably not if the February character design leaks turn up in the movie and Shinji's friends (Kensuke, Toji, Hikari) really appear as adutls. It would be an interesting development so I do hope it happens.
Thread got me to watch Rebuild 1.0 finally. Is Anno really going to do the Devilman timeloop thing?
enjoy the ride, I do think all the three rebuild is really good.
>Literally the most amazing and beautiful moment of the entire Evangelion franchise
>Shinji being OOC and acting like a generic shounen protagonist
>not to mention that the sequence with him reaching out to Rei is just an Utena rip off
>"amazing"
Is this bait? How can someone like both TV and rebuilds unironically?
>Is Anno really going to do the Devilman timeloop thing?
Anno is doing spitting on the modern anime audience and his bloated franchise while profiting from it thing.
>excusing bad writing with "it's a time loop hehe"
Regardless of wether you think the story is shit or not i think we can all agree that the directing and art is fucking beautiful. There are few movies (EoE is one of them) where you can pause at almost any moment and have a kino wallpaper
>CHINbuilds
>"beautiful"
It has some well-animated scenes, but it looks worse than EoE overall. If you want to watch a really beautiful movie, watch Adolescence of Utena.
Gurren Lagann was the adult's answer to Evangelion. Rebuild is for the children who refused to grow up.
>lol evangelions are just cats now, no mechanical thought required
>weightless CGI
The EVA action scenes are atrocious.
During the bomb collar scene was enough to at least put his mind at ease. Or when Asuka confronted him. It appears like there were multiple chances to talk to him even during maintenance.
If you like the Rebuilds you simply shouldn't be allowed to watch the original series or End of Evangelion. Your privileges are revoked
I personally have more issues with Mari than anything else in Rebuild. She stands out as such a sore thumb it feels like she's important to the whole mess, but is little more than fapbait that wastes time that can go to strengthening the plot.
Shinji was the Third Child (or 'Children'), right? I feel like it's a reference to that
Dont understand the hate the rebuild movies are objectively the best versions of eva.
People are just stuck on nostalgia
When the show ended they ran out of money but they at least had an idea of what they were doing and where they were going. Coming up with some kind kind of thematic conclusion for the main character worked in its own way. With 3.0 it was the opposite, they chose to suddenly change course into uncharted territory with no idea of where they were going.
Kaworu is pretty and he sells tons of merchandise. It's never his fault even when it is. Shinji is plain looking and he doesn't sell, therefore it's always his fault. It's anime 101, are you a newfag or something?
>Misato: Shinji, you've been trapped in the Eva for 14 years. Your dad is insane and trying to end the world. We're trying to stop him.
>Shinji: What about Rei? Where is she?
>Misato: She's dead, Shinji. You were there.
>Shinji: No, I saved her. She was in the plug with me!
>Misato: You were the only one in there when we got you out. But if she's in there, Shinji, we'll do everything we can to get her out, too. ...But there's one thing you should know. Your father cloned Rei and is using her against us.
>Shinji: That bastard! What can I do to help?
>Misato: The problem is, Shinji, that the last time you were in the Eva, you started the Third Impact. We don't know what will happen if you get in it again. So we need you to sit this one out for a while until we know more.
They're next-gen Evas. At some unknown point, some party got it down to the bare minimum structure needed to support cores and get them to use AT for propulsion and attack, streamlined the rest of the body off, and let them out into the world as autonomous patrolling drones. No indication of when that would have happened, except that there's one stuck onto Eva-01's space coffin to guard it so these had to be around when that was launched, no indication of where they came from, because there's an automated Eva factory inside of Neo Nerv but it's still making them with hands and guns.
Yes.

All of 3.0 would've been avoided if Misato had just explained to Shinji everything.
>wake up
>broken hottie is gone
>red-haired bitch is even more of a bitch
>everyone is a bitch
>everybody tells me not to get back in the robot
>nobody tells me why
>broken hottie is back
>she's even more broken now
>make a friend
>get him killed
Does the music notation for repeat :|| mean to repeat only once and the second time it comes around you move to the next segment or is it an infinite loop? I haven't into music in a long time, but when I played piano the songs actually had an end despite having that thing.
I would have unironically preferred this. They could still have a situation where Asuka and Mari are out, Gendo is attacking and Shinji is the only one left to pilot an Eva so he disregards Misato and does it.
Why would Shinji believe it. He isn't the most logical and thoughtful person.
Yes, It means repeat once and then continue past it.
If there is not an opposite facing repeat symbol earlier in the piece, you restart at the begining, otherwise you go to the last backward repeat sign.
No you tards, Near Third Impact refers to how everyone was turned into Eva figurines. It would've been Third Impact ie releasing everyone's souls and destroying all Lilim (similar to Second Impact) if Kaworu hadn't stopped it halfway with the spear and turned it into Near Third Impact. The end of 2.0 was just the first part of it.
So maybe 3.0 + 1.0 will loop back and then start a hole new timeline that won't loop. Maybe one without angels and where Shinji doesn't have a dysfunctional family and Asuka is his childhood friend and Rei actually has a personality and all his friends are there. Who would even think of this?
That's why he'd buy it if Misato wasn't too good to lie and manipulate him like that. Then because it's lies it would fall apart over time, but there are half-truths in there that would hold up for Shinji to adulterate with his own delusions again, until he's running manic with those at Wille instead and nobody can tell him stop before it blows up in Misato's face.
>tell Shinji to get in the robot
>Shinji gets in the robot
>"OH MY GOD SHINJI WHY DID YOU GET IN THE ROBOT!"
Anno is a fucking hack.
It was dumb.
Why can Shinji simply unlock some awakened god mode by trying harder? Why does trying very hard to pilot destroy the world?
Is this actually true?
WTF is even going on????
Wtf happened in that timeskip, why is giant Rei back???
Gendo knew what he was doing. He pretended to be nice and manipulate Shinji because his handlers had no social skills.
The guy spent most of a 3.33 with a shit eating grin watching Misato fuck up so bad that it pushed Shinji to his side. Everything wrong with 3.33 is Misato's fault, and she's passing blame to Shinji to save face.
The only way to explain the Rebuilds is to multiply everything by two.
Oh so there's an extra Giant Rei? That means there were actually FOUR Seeds of Life on Earth, not two like in NGE TV.
Two Adam-like beings and two Liliths. Instead of three impacts there will be six. There are four Spears of Longinus not two, and so on.
Everything is double because maybe during the time loop the godly beings overlaid on top of eachother unlike the rest of beings.
Gendo wanted Shinji to get in the robot and act like a shonen hero to kickstart the Third Impact.
K
I
N
O
And Evapilled
We see a giant Rei form when Shinji saves Rei in 2.22.
Might be from that.
Though I always thought it was Yui's face.
I dont even know how there are 2 spears, what spear Kaworu expected to be there when all we have seen before is Longinus, why they needed Eva-13 to be double piloted when Shinji does all the work, why there is an Eva-06 in the middle of it, why its the 12th angel, what the fuck was Rei Q's role in hitting it.
Like what the fuck is happening.
I thought Gendo was still trying to do what he did in the series to make 01 work without Shinji, with Rei and the dummy plug failing to activate 01 because of Yui.
In the Rebuilds, he acts like a nice person and knows that Shinji wants his approval. He's better at manipulating his own sun and his goals are ambiguous.
Gendo deliberately made it so that Shinji and Rei would grow closer so that Shinji would feel enough for her to do what he did in 2.22.
So... What if in those 15 years they tried to replicate the events of The End of Eva by using Sleeping Shinji. I mean, the world looks a lot worse than it was on EVA 2.0, there are a lot of The End of Evangelion elements and it seems there was a big battle with Giant Rei. That could also mean the timeloop finally changed... I don't know wtf is going on anymore
If 3.0 was "everything Anno intended Evangelion to be" Asuka would have her leg ripped off or just fucking die after Bardiel not parade around with cat ears and angel super powers. 3.0 is chock full of retarded fanservice of an entirely different kind than 2.0. The message in 3.0 is awful and completely against the spirit of Eva. "Ture Evangelion" MY ASS.
To be fair, the neural clips always gave Asuka pseudo cat ears.
The helmet in 3.0 just made it more obvious.
>Eva from this point on is just rehashed Mazinger Z
Yes, the seiyuu did say this about the movie where Kaworu drives Shinji to a nervous breakdown to get him to participate in a vaguely described plan, it goes poorly for Kaworu because he's misinformed about the situation and then can't control a crazy person, and Kaworu is killed by the bomb he put on to convince Shinji to be there. Actors are dumb as hell, but Ogata also talked up the atmosphere of 3.0 as haunting and disturbing, and she's like the biggest twitter shill for Eva, so I think she's just cagier about bullshitting to have something to say to a publication that wants to promote the property.
He's revelling in the same points he already made 20+ years ago but now adding "it's bad on purpose because I hate you and you'll see it anyway so fuck you" to it. It's not art any more. It's the anime equivalent of every comedy Adam Sandler made after Funny People.
To be fair, it seems to be a Japanese thing, with some waifu faggotry on the mix. There are many westerners who believe Shinji is a genocidal monster unironically because otherwise the girls/Kaworu would be in the wrong and that can't happen. Even on Yea Forums we can find those opinions, see
>calling Shinji not the most logical and thoughtful person = thinking Shinji is a genocidal monster
The argument was that it was useless to reason with him and he was going to destroy the world anyway, therefore whitewashing Misato and Asuka from this mess
This is missing the point. People don't hate Shinji for triggering the third Impact, but rather the several casualties and collateral damage caused by it. Millions of people died because of Shinji's impuslive decision.
No one hates Shinji except for some random extra and Asuka.
Reminder that after this he irreparably fucked the earth making it uninhabitable
Wasn't actually him. The world at the end of 2.22 is in no way similar to the world at the beginning of 3.33. Something happened in between.
Ok Yea Forums?
The truth isn't your personal opinion
S2 is never mentioned in Rebuild. The most reference to it is that Eva-04 was supposed to have a new kind of power source that blew up, and then they go on to insinuate that this is only what they were told 04 was.
It's kind of amazing that Anno managed to actually make a solid movie with 2.22 and completely fucking ruined it with 3.33.
The only amazing thing is having this amount of garbage taste.
2.22 is one of the best things to come out of Evangelion, that's a fact. 3.33 being one of the worst is also a fact.
I too enjoy the 2 dimensional characters who had a lot of their faults and things that made them unique just stripped away in favor for CG mecha action.
not him but over coming those faults is also character progression, hope, compassion, courage. these are traits you are just tired of seeing because you feel that anything positive turns them in to a 2d character. My friend just because a character has faults doesnt mean they can over comethem. the thing is that him conquering his fear pretty much destroyed the world. So 3.0 you saw the despair that his progression was temporary and fell into deeper depression. Thats why Kaworu was the only light in his life at the time. now that is gone too. you see now? the progress shinji makes only sets hum back even further till he was broken walking zombie. 2.0 gave him a reason to do something only to have it turn to dispair.
The thing is though they do not have as many faults to overcome as they did in NGE.
Therefore there is less progression.
>implying opinions are facts in any way
There is big shocker for you :
Eva 3.0 was garbage because Anno didn't care at that point about franchise and let it be just a money cow.
Also missing from Rebuild is that NGE scene devoted to the plane carrying 03 deciding to go through a cloud which then sparks around them, implying that's when Bardiel jumped in. Here it's just this shot of 03 launching from obviously Nevada instead of what was maybe Massachusetts in the show, next to where 04 just went wrong and it would be weirder not to have some kind of atmospheric disturbance. They might have built this version of Eva-03 with an Angel inside in the first place, like the whatever they were trying to do at Bethany Base with the captive Angel with the entry plug in its neck, and that's why Seele was so insistent on Gendo taking it.
I heard there was a fan manga about asuka and shinji surviving right after EoE. Anybody got a link?
3.33 is objectively a bad movie, it's not just an opinion.
>reading fanfiction
too bad 3.33 ruined it
When will you retards ever start treating the Rebuilds as The Last Jedi/Prequels of NGE?
The rebuilds aren't to be taken seriously, because they fucking suck and are just another attempt to bleed more money out of an already beloved franchise.
Hideki Anno doesn't give a fuck anymore, he's the goddamn George Lucas of anime.
People that like 2.22 but hate 3.33 are everything wrong with modern media consumption.
EXPECTATIONS SUBVERTED
It's called Re-Take. Sorry, no link
Spoiler alert: 4.0 will end in nobody being happy because fuck you, Hideki Anno is now rich enough to spit all over your dumb fucking dreams.
My enjoyment of this series is based entirely on how much it upsets the fans, so I'm expecting to have a good time.
He already did that once though.
And those who enjoy 3.33 like to see people suffer, like Overlords fags, do there. They also see themselves as patricians somehow. They would fit in Nero's court alright... He also considered himself an artist...
> tfw you know this series is only going to end in pain and tears yet again
Dumb frogposter.

Is rebuild 4 even coming out, ever?
What did you expect from eva?
>exhentai
I dont like where this is going.

No, what has been happening this last week?
TEN MINUTE PREVIEW

Reposted from another thread, but here:
>2.0 set Rei and Shinji up to knock it down in 3.0. You see, Anno never really liked Rei. He says as much when he states that he'd forgotten about her once Asuka was introduced and that she never had as much of an effect on him as any of the other characters. I think what's most frustrating about Reifags for him is that he made Rei to represent what every socially inept anime watcher would want, just some quiet, submissive girl of nothingness with no real features. So then when people say "omg I want to make Rei my waifu!!!" not only are they absolutely not getting what Anno's point is, but they're exactly what he's trying to "Criticize". She's really not human, at all, either genetically or mentally. She's this weird amalgamation of a blank slate that ends up caring for only the protagonist. In other words, a fake person. It's absolutely not anything that happens in a real human life. The whole big theme of Evangelion is actually facing life as it is. Because it's hard and it sucks but you can't run away. Asuka represents this theme the best for Shinji. She's harsh, has flaws, can be difficult, but she's a real person while Rei represents an idealization of a woman. Just as Instrumentality is accepting this "fake dream world" where everyone stands around you and tells you how proud they are of you and everything is great, rejecting it leaves Shinji in this desolate wasteland, but you have to reject it. It's the only way to actually face life and move forward. You have to pick Asuka. Rebuild also follows this, as by picking Rei, Shinji does not move or evolve, attempting to run back where it's safe (back to mother, basically) rather than facing the consequences of his action.
Anno was playing you. He was setting up Rei and Shinji, only to knock them down and show you how shit they are.
>that he made Rei to represent what every socially inept anime watcher would want, just some quiet, submissive girl of nothingness with no real features
This is not true. And it never has been true.
Kek it's like you never even watched the series.
>antieva
yes, but that was the point, that was the goal.
It is the anti-Eva.
It's Anno saying "are you sure that this is what you want?".
>only to knock them down and show you how shit they are.
And he did that by making a shit movie on purpose? Lmao
That's not at all what the Impacts are you fucking idiot. You're thinking of the Human Instrumentality Project. that's what involves releasing souls and shit. The Impacts are the catastrophic events that result from an awakening of Adam or Lilith. Adam awakening didn't create any Anti-AT Field that would destabilize someone's self, he just fucking exploded and caused a natural disaster on the level of a meteor impact, and the after effects of that killed billions.
Ohhh fuck
>The rebuilds aren't to be taken seriously, because they fucking suck and are just another attempt to bleed more money out of an already beloved franchise.
Why do you say all that? Let's talk about it.
The Star Wars prequels are similarly derided by "fans" of Star Wars, because they didn't like the direction the prequels took. What the prequels had to say about their beloved Jedi, for instance. People evaluate these films based on emotion, rather than by looking at the film based on its own merits.
Revenge of the Sith is probably the best of the Star Wars films, for instance. A poor performance by the lead actor notwithstanding.
How do the new Eva films "fucking suck", exactly? Let's talk about it.
What is it that makes them bad?
The first one, you can't really find much fault with it, I'm sure. It is rather faithful in most places, while changing up enough to keep people on their toes. As well as some changes based on the film format, such as Kensuke's role being significantly reduced.
The things that are changed up, you know will come up later. At least if you are an attentive viewer.
The second one is more interesting and it is probably where you started to get this reading. It's not Eva, but it's not a bad film.
And that's 100% intentional, mind yourself. Anno was trying to destroy Eva in his own words. It's not Eva. Everything about it is wrong, it's a caricature. Remember this thing? This is Eva 2.0 is accusing. The film is Eva as wish fulfillment. It is very cheerful, very bright, even as things go sour. And even when facing Zeruel it doesn't feel the same way it did in the original, does it? It feels more hopeful.
And it ends on the same note, only after the credits rolled, we return to the way things were meant to be, with Kaworu descending from the heavens and grounding us again.
The third film is a return to Eva in every way and it does accomplish it by putting you, the viewer into the position of Shinji. You don't know what's going on.
Prepare thy ass for the blasting.
pic very related
But despite this surface level subversion, it actually plays episode 21-24 incredibly straight.
We learn about Fuyutsuki and Yui, like we would in "He was aware that he was still a child". Rei is replaced with a new, ghostly apparition who isn't like her at all. This hurts even more than in the show, because the subversive pokapoka Rei was a rather appealing character. Asuka's collapse, while not happening in the film clearly did happen some time in the past. And Kaworu takes the same, if expanded role from episode 24.
And the conclusion of the third film is a direct refutation of the second film. Shinji again decides to push forward and do what he thinks is right, what he thinks he should do.
So he does it. And this time, visible to him too, his actions lead to catastrophe and more personally, they lead to his only friend dying.
If you think these films are bad, you either haven't seen them or you are unable to watch a film with your eyes actually opened.
By the way, Mari is the best character in Evangelion.
Mari died on the way back to her home planet.
I genuinely don't know how you or anyone else could dislike Mari other than her being new.
She's voiced by Sakamoto, so she's best girl by default.
Probably because she does nothing interesting nor is she an interesting character herself.
Here's a guide to Eva shitposting that is important for people to realize.
If someone tries to claim "This is the true meaning of Eva" or "The theme of Evangelion was always" or anything that implies Eva, OG or Rebuid, has a specific end goal and thematic thru line that was intended from the beginning, they are always wrong. One of the most interesting parts of Eva is the fact that, while the series did have a basic framework that's planned from the start and is executed (Pilot the Eva, defeat the Angels, follow character growth of the cast), the actual end goal of that has never been set in stone like other series. It built up like life itself. There were good times, bad times, moments of happiness and moments of sadness, so that when we got to the end point, you could genuinely not be sure where Shinji would go. He could break, try and keep living, the full range of depression responses were represented. I'd say it comes from the fact that Anno lives with depression, and has used the Evangelion framework to express his struggle to answer the existential question of life, and find a reason to live.
Of course, it has a story, there are themes, characters do grow in response to events, and you can't dismiss Eva as an excuse for Anno to cope, but it's undeniable that a portion of the series is driven by Anno's depression and how it impacts him. At the least impactful, we get something like 2.22, where Anno seemed to be at ease with the existential and didn't really explore it in the film, to where it hurts the most and we get End of Evangelion, a film that has half of it's runtime dedicated to Anno trying to justify to Shinji, the audience and himself why you have to avoid suicide and find some motivation to live, even without fulfillment.
The only reason someone like me considers 3.33 to be egregious is because it breaks the internal universe to justify his dread, because he was really doing bad. Now that he's in a better mental state, I have some hope for 4.0.
Then explain to me her personality then.
Ja
I dont dislike her at all. I just saw an epick maymay with the caption "mari died on her way back to her home planet".
> Mari is the best character in Evangelion.
In a single sentence, you just discredited your entire argument. Top tier bait, you almost had me.
Nice job.
Problem is they didn't 'deserve' to overcome them yet imo. There wasn't nearly enough screen time or really any main reason for a lot of characters to get over their baggage so them overcoming their faults felt forced to me
When is the 3.0+1 preview going to air at AXPO 2019?
I can't decide if chuckman is constantly satirical or not. In either case the tranny is somewhat entertaining.
Saturday.
Do we know why Anno was depressed again during 3.33?
Is he a tranny? I didn't know but that makes sense
escapism isn't bad, you know it yourself, you posting lewds of rei and asuka
They are all somehow based on the same Unit 4 as all the different mass prodced types are equally called EVA Mark 04, just like how in the preview at the end(and in the middle of the movie if you pay attention) there are mass produced Mark 06, so apparently the Marks can be mass produced.
That line was to filter out people like you, congratulations on filtering yourself.
Mari is carefree, to put it into simple terms. Her only real goal is to be near the action and keep an watch it happen. This admittedly isn't very interesting out of context, but once you place her alongside all these people who are fighting grand battles in pursuit of self-actualization, she starts being a very exciting contrast.
It's a shame Anno really committed to the whole "watching things happen" thing in the third film, because a more significant role for Mari would've have improved it a lot.
We will find out what's up with her in the next film and that's gonna be quite interesting.
She does many interesting things in the second film, in the third one she does not. She's mostly just there, the second film serves to set this up.
This reading is really bad
This one is better, but also really bad, because it doesn't actually address what's in the text.
>We will find out what's up with her in the next film and that's gonna be quite interesting.
Not according to Sadamoto we won't.
Yes. It's pretty recent too. Changed his name legally and shit.
I doubt that final looks anything like it did back then.
If they didn't know what to do with her then, what makes you think they know now?
Cope harder, Mari fag.
Oh, shut the fuck up with that take. Everyone who thinks they're hot shit tries to act like Evangelion is some kind of meta story about how Anno hates Otaku culture and how evil escapist media is, and they've always been wrong. The dude is an otaku himself, and unabashedly so. Just because he put fan mail stills in EoE (It wasn't a bunch of hatemail, it was mostly fan mail saying they were excited for EoE and ONE picture of vandal spraypaint on their office), everyone who tries to look big brained thinks Evangelion is a series meant to talk shit to Otaku. Shinji's masturbation gets interpreted as calling Otaku trash for jerking off to Asuka doujin, then when the Rebuilds lean hard into fanservice that panders to Otaku in spite of that take, fuckers like that have to twist and twist their takes to make Mari and Asuka panty shots into a multi-layered metacommentary on how disgusting Otaku don't like women. It's insanity, has no real supporting evidence in the work itself, and all people do to justify these theories since EoE was released is act like Anno is acting like a Miyazaki shitpost made manifest.
Mari is a character for fanservice. She may have had a part to play in the original rough draft of the Rebuilds post 1's rewrite, but shit changed, and now she's just there to be a nice eyecatch girl. Not every author is looking to admonish their audience, and Anno's Evangelion work has always been subject to this take despite everything that actually happens in both his works and his interviews.
That was confirmed in a deleted scene( if that counts), Seele orchestrated everthing aabut Unit 04 and 03 to meet their goals: and unspecified sacrifice with Unit 04 with great benefits, and the Unit 03 incident to prove that humans and angels can be fused through an Eva. 3.0 actually shows the end of these incidents, just like it also shows how the dummy plug is important for them to make all these umnanned things that are type blue, and make Mark 06 start Third Impact ( as I see some people confused: Shinji at the end of 2.0 = Near Third Impact, Unmanned Mark 06 fucking with Lilith ad being stopped by someone with two spears as the world was ending and Lilith got beheaded = Third Impact)
Who the fuck actually tries to defend Mari like this? What are you smoking? It would have been better if she was never in the Rebuilds, just like how she was never in NGE.
Why can't you make an intelligent argument against Mari?
Can't wait for Mari's redemption arc
I never thought I'd see the day were I prefer Asukafags to Marifags.
Truly, Anno was right to think this fan base is cancer.
4.0 ends with Anno committing suicide on screen
screencap this post
The most important parts of the article are Anno's quotes, specifically:
>"He speaks of losing his sense of purpose, asking “What am I trying to make again? And why have I decided to make a fictitious, special-effects kind of film?” He also refers to having suffered from an unshakable feeling of fatigue and a “decaying psychological unease.”
Sounds like revisiting Evangelion, especially with the original intent of making a sanitized version for a new generation, put him back in the headspace he was in while actually developing Evangelion. And trying to take it and do something new with it, not just once, but twice (since the overall plot to the Rebuilds was rewritten after both 1 and 2 were released) drained his mental health down to a nub. He's since talked about how taking a break and making something new, specifically Shin Godzilla, put him in a much better state of mind, and he can finish the movies without internally struggling as a consequence.
Can we all at least agree that Sakura is the best new girl in the Rebuilds?
A nice girl. Refreshing to have someone normal to compare the rest of the cast to.
Doesn't Ritsuko explain to him why in that interrogation room?
It's 14 years later, maybe she already did the jail time.
EHEM
She's just like Toji as a girl. Why couldn't it just be Toji then? Ah, that's right, because Anno wanted to put in as many cute girls as he could. Too bad none of them have the depth of connection with Shinji as his original friends had. Feels so heartless and empty. Sad.
>tfw risked pissing myself just to discuss more about a 2D Nigerian cartoon about Robots and redheads.
EVA threads will never not be the best threads on Yea Forums
Wtf is that fit?
>What should she be wearing? Ah I know, bootleg pokemon ranger!
I thought the implication was that Toji was dead as a doornail after the 14 years. That's why Sakura gives Shinji Toji's shirt, right? He can't use them anymore, so why not give one to his friend when he needs it?
So I just finished all the Rebuilds as I've been putting them off for years and years. I was pleasantly surprised and honestly really enjoyed my time with them, although I recognize that it's going for something very different than the original NGE series so I can respect that and look at it through a different lense.
I think they only got better with time.
3.33 > 2.22 > 1.11.
I like how 2.22 and 3.33 were basically on different extremes of the spectrum. In 2.22 everybody was learning to support each other, Gendo was actually being nice, Asuka was COOKING for Shinji, Rei was basically the waifu that every Reifag wanted her to be, Shinji goes full Kamiya mode, etc. It was really fun but felt disturbing and unreal to an extent because of how 'uplifting' it was and how out of character a lot of it felt.
And then 3.33 just rips all that shit out and now everybody is a caricature of what they were in NGE, but in the other direction.
If Asuka is tsundere in NGE, now she's a full on bitch who hates the MC but still seemingly has '''feelings'''for him.
Rei had a very low key personality in NGE and now in 3.33 she is a complete blank slate. In NGE she at least started to change so that she could appreciate and care for the MC, but not in 3.33.
Old depressed Shinji is back but now he literally caused the end of the world, and then almost does it AGAIN.
Honestly I don't get all the outright disdain it gets on here. Shit was pretty kino. Shikinami and Rei-Q are also cute af.
Touji isnt dead, an unintentional spoiler revealed that Touji Kensuke and Hikari will show grown up at the very least , the shirt wasnt from Sakura, she never gave Shinji any shirt, it was automatically dispended from the Nerv HQ laundry system, whatever that means.
We've known since February that all of Shini's friends are alive and adults now. That's kind of a silly argument. Whether they're alive or not is up for Anno to decide, there isn't anything he can't do.
>That's why Sakura gives Shinji Toji's shirt, right?
Gendo gave Shinji his shirt. Either to spook him or it's a que for the audience that the three of them were involved with NERV after the NTE in some way. If the shirt was splatted with blood or somethimg, that would be a hint that he's dead. An intact shirt means he just took it off at some point.
Got a link for that spoiler?
Most people just think 3.0 is retarded plotwise. The ones who really hate it with a passion are a group of obsessed discord reifags that spam 'anno is a butthurt asukafag that made rebuilds for the sole reason to push a pro-asuka and anti-rei propaganda' everywhere.
Got it, I'm out of the loop for that one, then. Sounds like it could fit into the question of the Eva units that were skipped, since they all should be qualified to pilot an Eva.
>mfw remembering the saigar tournament days
Arigatou user kun
Since they appear to have grown up we can assume that they didn't pilot and weren't exposed to the curse of Eva.
I won't deny I was COMPLETELY lost as soon as they started descending into dogma and talking about the 2 spears, unit 06, Vessel of Adams, multiple Yui/Lillith things, etc.
I don't try to make sense of a lot of the other wordly alien shit in Eva anyways and I just appreciate it for the mystery and try to make heads and tells as best as I can, I care more about the actual characters, their interactions with others and development.
I can get that somebody who likes Eva primarily for the plot can not enjoy it though, 3.33 left me VERY confused.
The size difference between Shinji and Touji is now bigger than between Shinji and Gendo.
Also I think I remember seeing those Rei-fags in a thread like 2 or 3 days ago. They were annoying af and really insufferable trying to play victim by saying Anno made 3.33 just to fuck with them for liking Rei.
>reitards are discord trannies
Rei's fandom doesnt deserve her.
What a blatantly meaningless assertion.
I don't know man. I only come to Yea Forums for Eva threads really because 90% of the other shit is moe garbage.
Other than that, I talk about Kaiji here sometimes, maybe some old normalfag shit like Bebop or Champloo. I like going into the Dumbell threads and talking shit about all the depicted exercises too since I'm Yea Forums /fit/ and can recognize how fucking dumb the director/artist is in trying to depict good form or routines.
Do we have a time for the 3.0+1.0 preview? I know it is Saturday but is there an actual time?
Also will there be english subs at all or is it an isolated event in Nippon that's just going to have the gook dub?
I just hate it because we lack a lot of context with that fucking timeskip.
Based fellow /fit/izen. Make sure to curve your back 170° and squeeze your shoulder blades together while benching!
Maybe not this time, theres this theory that theres rather high possibility that the Eva pilots were all manufactured in the movies as Ayanami types, Shikinami types and Makinami types, then Seele manufactured Kaworu for their own end and Gendou and Yui did something to Shinji so he can trigger Impacts and together planned the thing where Shinji and Rei are needed to be close at some point, one of the pointers is how the guys at Wille cant know if he is the real Shinji by looking at him( maybe he was mass produced too) and how they treat him like a liability anyways (maybe he is a clone of Gendou!)
What's the intelligent argument FOR mari?
It's a prompt to get Shinji to wonder about what happened to people he knew, so Kaworu can lie to him about Third Impact, so Fuyutsuki and Gendo can be talking right after about how the grooming is proceeding, and Fuyutsuki can lament to Gendo that they're doing it like this instead of approaching Shinji directly with whatever the real ultimate plan is.
To make it you're required to:
A. Be an Asukafag
B. Squat 4pl8
C. Bench 3pl8
Luckily I've already completed all of these
I mean why the hell does Gendou need to get Shinji back on earth if anyone could trigger Impacts unless he is that special?
Prepare for some kind of whammy with this because thoough they explained Rei is manufactured in the third movie, they have to explain all this weird pilot shit with Mari and Asuka and Shinji
You however, haven't completed getting laid by anything other than your right hand.
Classic /fit/.
That makes sense. Honestly my biggest gripe with 3.33 is that lack of context and the fact that my favorite characters got next to no screentime. Misato and Asuka were barely in the movie at all, I wish there was more time with them on screen exploring what happened to them as the world turned to shit over the past 14 years which explains why they ended up that way.
You got good intuition. I'm waiting for my qt Azn gf to fall in my lap once I hit 5pl8 squat at the end of my current program cycle.
Don't forget to z press you 1rm for squats! We're all gonna make it.
Have you forgotten what series you're watching? Nothing you want will ever happen in NGE or the rebuilds.
Period.
Hideki Anno knows what Eva fans want after all these years, but he really couldn't give less of a shit, nor does he have to.
Yeah I know we won't get it. Can't stop me from wanting it though. The fact that the context between 2.22 and 3.33 is missing doesn't really hamper my overall opinion of the movie in anyway, it's more of just a wish fulfillment thing.
>Anno made a shit movie on purpose
Is this supposed to be a defense of his hackery?
That's a take as retarded as the one that EoE was a finger to the otakus. EoE was exactly as it always supposed to be in accordance to Yui's plans for instrumetality. The lore is coherent and the events make sense once you dive a bit into it and study the classified information. In hindsight it makes perfect sense. The problem with rebuilds is that as of now, the lore is completely incoherent and disjointed. Possibly due to the many rewrites. Maybe with time we'll be given a nother "classified file" of information or some kind of Bible and we'll be able to piece everything together. For now I'll hold my judgement because of the constant allusions to a grand scheme playing out in the background and I hope it won't be just a bunch of abandoned plot threads in the end.
Believe it or not, 2.22 WAS the wish fulfillment lmao.
It's just a bunch or pretentions nerds desperate to have a one up on Anno. They don't know shit about his motivations.
> Anno's motivations
Also known as "Money"
In what world is changing the character's personalities to conform to the setting equal to making a shit movie on purpose?
Just because your expectations were subverted and character's changed after a timeskip doesn't have to do anything with a movie being made bad on purpose.
Yeah I definetly know that. I remember telling my friend while we were watching it 'dude the way the characters are acting seems like something out of a fanfic.' I still liked it for tsundere Asuka and poki poki Rei but it definitely felt WAY off.
Who has ever said EoE was supposed to be the finger to otakus? I've heard that statement about the Rebuilds, NOT EoE.
The movie was shit because there was no depth to pretty much everything. The characters were flat and hollow husks of their former selves with most of their backstories and psychological baggage swept under the rug. The whole "appealing to otaku" angle in consequence gave us just a pretty generic love triangle with generic characters involved.
mr.anno is a fucking hack and you can't change my mind
I see 2.0 as the wish fulfillment fanfic, and 3.0 as the child's imagination gone rampant with edge fanfic.
Its funny you think we are gonna even see a shitty recording.
Animexpo doesnt record its panels, and om sure anno will force every watcher to go thru embargo under prison to ensure we dont have ANYTHING regarding that screening.
And, in the remote (read:FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE) scenario they make that screening public, chances are that those 10 minutes are a fake movie and whatever comes up, IF it ever comes up, its gonna be a totally different flick.
shinji sucks and is overrated
Or the first 10 minutes contain nothing decipherable without the rest of the movie, think how 2.0 started with a Mari battle and 3.0 with its giant space box retrieval.
Why was Shinji in space?
How did he get there?
shut up stupid gaijin
He was inside that machine Asuka fought. So either NERV or SEELE put him there.
14 years worth of WILLE formation and WILLE vs NERV that we are never gonna see would explain it.
The original Eva plot, 1-26 and EoE, all transpired within the span of just 4 damn months for comparison.
Anno never intended for Rei to be likable or sympathetic. She was always meant to creep people out and be sort of eldritch. She doesn't get any real character development and serves basically as a secondary character to Asuka and Shinji, sort of as a foil to them. I honestly don't get what people like about her, and I think Anno feels the same way.
This was why 2.0 was such disappointing shit. 3.0 is the true spirit of Eva.
>She was always meant to creep people out
well he failed pretty hard in that regard. shouldn't have made her so cute.
>3.0 was bashed left and right, every time people have to rant about it, the list never ends
Are you fucking new to Eva in general or what?
Except Rei clearly got character development over the series. The eldritch shit only kicked in when we got to Rei III.
Factually false.
3.0 has a surplus of randos with flashy character designs and zero depth or connection to anybody. There isn't a single good relationship in the movie.
>There isn't a single good relationship in the movie
?
>There isn't a single good relationship in the movie.
This is Evangelion. All the relationships should be toxic and full of hurt. Not one person is made a better person by reaching out to others in Eva.
What a demonstrable lack of understanding of the core message in Eva.
Kaowshin was always shit, but especially in 3.0
debating on whether i should see it in person or go to anime expo since i live in la
I think the point he was trying to make is that yes, she absolutely develops into a person with her own individual will, however a lot of that development is caused by the fact that she begins to care about the protagonist/self-insert MC.
I really like Rei's character but I think I understand why Anno dislikes people fawning over her. Rei is a cute girl who develops into a character who risks her life and ultimately allows the fate of the world to rest upon Shinji. In a way, she is somewhat of an idealized woman for the shut-in otaku audience Anno is trying to talk to. Cute, quiet and develops into a character that deeply cares for the main character above all else. Her character and entire trope is extremely anti-realistic and Anno hates the fact that people fell in love with this anti-realistic, idealized character and fell into the tarpit of escapism because of her.
Obviously, Asuka's character isn't really 'realistic' neither, but what she represents is significant. I also think that is why Anno loves Asuka so much. She represents the painful and harsh reality of the world we live in where punches aren't pulled and her emotions are raw and possibly hurtful to others. Yet despite the pain and suffering she may bring to herself and those around her, you have to choose reality over an idealized dream.
I may be completely fucking wrong and Anno may absolutely have been going for something else but that is what I got from watching it and trying to interpret it myself.
He is right though.
Despite the message of Eva, Shinji would have suffered the least if he didn't get in the robot anymore and just fucked off from the other psychos in his life.
Not everyone in Shinji's life was a psycho and not every relationship he had was toxic or abusive. I can only really count Gendo and Asuka as obvious examples. Most of the mental torment in his relationships came due to circumstance.
>with half assed explanation for one of the characters not aging.
>one
This is true. He could have been doing anything he liked while waiting for just a distant flash of light and then nothing ever again.
I think you've got it spot on. That's why, whenever I'm asked Rei vs. Asuka, I always say Asuka, even as my heart aches for Rei.
No you idiot. Watch the Second Impact footage in the original. You can see the red dots of the souls of humans being released into the sky. And they talk about the Anti-AT field it produces.
youtube.com
There are many ways for impacts to happen, including Adam awakening and fusing of a Fruit of Life and Fruit of Knowledge, and this results in released souls. But what happens to the souls depends on who is in control. Shinji at the end of Eva 2.0 triggered an impact when the Evas and Angels fused with his soul as he tried to save Rei. But he wasn't in control, possibly because he didn't have a Spear, so it just went AWOL and began to tang everyone. But Kaworu stopped it mid-way with his Spear.
>Yes, It means repeat once and then continue past it.
Rebuild is the prequel and EoE is humanity potentially coming back from the LCL sea and not fucking up this time.
He's kinda right, as shown even more in rebuild. Everyone's fucked up, no matter what you do it'll be a fuck up, and the world hates you. That's Eva, there's not a right answer. All you can do is stop caring so much what others think, but it's never going to get better.
Whether shinji acts passive or acts proactive, the result is the same. Asuka isn't getting over her massive anger and trauma. No one ever gets better in Eva. Shits fucked, and the only ending is Armageddon in some form, usually due to Shinji
Holy shit you are retarded.
Rebuild will zoom out and it will all have been Mari trying to explain to somebody what she remembers about this old anime she saw once.
Rei is a mother stand-in, whereas Asuka is a fully developed human being. Shinji saving and loving Rei is the same as a boy running back to his mother for security because he can't handle the complexity of interacting with a girl whose identity isn't defined by their relationship to him.
>and if you’re a director or voice actor having breakdowns at work, you have deeper problems unrelated to the project you’re on
>Passion projects don't exist or are somehow a bad thing
Kill yourself
Shinji rejects REI when he finds out she's his mom, but that doesn't cause him to run to Asuka since EoE really shows just how much he's internalized that she's a huge bitch. He lusts for her but he also hates her, his relationship with Asuka is always mixed at best, and never in a good way.
Instead he just goes gay if he has the chance. Since Kaowru is the only one to ever treat him decently on his life
just because its true doesnt make it less full of shit
I actually like Shinji's romance with Rei better as a pure romance, even though his romance with Asuka fits the themes of Evangelion much better.
Raised the bar too high and 3.33 was dogshit. 2.22 still is the best Eva material so far.
2.22: Hype from start to finish
3.33: CGI gay piano hands
Except manga Shinji only ever saw Rei as a sister.
It's not dumbass, it's exactly the opposite of the truth. Through the course of the show Shinji is able to function because of the relationships he makes along the way, the more isolated he becomes near the end the worse spiral of despair he falls into. Shinji's isolation is the cause of his regression. The whole reason why he rejected Instrumentality was to regain the people he formed relationships with.
You were so close and yet the message has escaped you. The whole point is that despite all of that you have the power to create your own happiness and that fearing relationships with people is what will bring you down. Yui outright out spells it out for you in the end, including the bit targeted at Gendo who is essentially what would happen to Shinji if he stopped trying and went into extreme isolation.
I think it's a little more complicated than that.
And Rei definitely didn't see it in a sisterly light.
you got what you deserved
>Rei, Asuka, Misato, Toji, Kensuke
>long-lasting relationships that may not always be smooth but in the end prove to be rewarding and fulfilling
>Kaworu
>one night stand with a hot prostitute who keeps bsing you how much she loves you when you're at your lowest
Shinji makes it clear in his own head that he feels something that sounds like a strong familial connection
Though yes, Rei wanted the baloney pony.
>He lusts for her but he also hates her, his relationship with Asuka is always mixed at best, and never in a good way.
It is good insofar as it is real, which his relationship with Rei was not. So, yes, it is extremely painful, but the point is that pain is part of life.
2.22: good parts of eva without the bad parts
3.33: bad parts of eva without the good parts
Never gonna make it.
>The whole point is that despite all of that you have the power to create your own happiness an
That's just you putting a positive spin on things in your mind. Such a thing was never shown really. What was shown was that every relationship is basically toxic, everything you do is wrong, and what you do doesn't matter since it'll still be wrong, all you can do is stop caring after awhile. Which is why Eva feels raw or real like someone who actually had depression wrote this garbage.
There was no positive message at the end that "you can create your own happiness, yay. Don't fear people" even when Shinji went out of his way to try to be near people on rare occasions it was a fuck up and it only made him worse for wear. Like Kaowru for example, or REI when he nearly ended the world to save her, only to have everyone hate him for it. There's no "it'll work out if you do this" message, instead it's just that life keeps on shitting on you, get over it. Even if you decide you want to be happy, it'll shit on you worse. Few times Shinji was almost happy were followed up by shit fucking up even worse.
Nah that's just you sidestepping what was said and saying the exact same thing again as though it's still true. It just feels more real to you because it's negative or cynical, people are more likely to believe things if they're negative in the world. You're always going to believe an insult 10x more than a compliment, because with the compliment you're wondering what they're trying to get out of you
But nah, point is that EoE showed that he mostly viewed the relationship negatively. There were two things he thought about Asuka in EoE, he jacked off to her, and he could hear her insulting him over and over and over again in his mind. That's what she is to him, he lusts for her, but he also views her and everything she's ever said only negatively. He wants to kill her twice, but he can't do it since he also still needs her since he probably views her as the only one as fucked up as him that can understand him left. But there's no positive aspects to the relationship at all. It's just him seeing out someone broken because he's also broken and can't help seeking out terrible relationships he hates because he's used to the pain, he associates it with normal.
i thought she was supposed to be a submissive to whims housewife candidate who does everything for her master even at the cost of her own livelihood and welfare, and that she's also some kind of representation of anima but not quite sophia but basically an ideal waifu that's molded by her master's desires
in that case her master being gendo
Was melting the illusion fair play, or did Rei do Unit 01 dirty womb-blocking like that?
Pretty much, I have no idea how final Rebuild is going to turn out. Cant be worse than 3.33 thats for sure
People who think that 2.22 is better than 3.33 just don't get Eva. I don't think you were ever a fan to begin with.
>2.22: good parts of eva without the bad parts
The pink girl was an unnecessary and bad adition tho
2.0 is better than 3.0 in my book solely because the Eva fights were still cool in 2.0.
And I have difficulty deciding what I hate more out of 2.0's aquarium field trip and love triangle cooking subplot and 3.0's general plot.
>Shinji rejects REI when he finds out she's his mom
he gets scared of rei III when he feels that the rei he connected with dies and he finds out she's a freaky vat-grown sorta-clone, the mother connection is secondary. but really the idea isn't so much that shinji literally wants rei to be his mother, but that the kind of affection and relationship they have is coded maternal within the series' symbolic framework. thinking of it as real or fake is missing the point, shinji's relationships with all three of the women in his life are real but they focus on different aspects and represent different things both thematically and in his life.
That's one reason why Rei will never work as a waifu for Shinji. At the end of the day she always loves his father more, even if he just treats her like a tool. Even when she died in the manga she thought about Gendo at the end. She's conditioned to favor Gendo even if he gives her nothing.
For me, it's Rei.
>There was no positive message at the end that "you can create your own happiness, yay. Don't fear people
Do you literally only have experience with the Rebuilds? The end of the TV series had Shinji literally say that he could learn to love himself and find happiness as an individual, and EoE has Yui Ikari explicitly say "Humanity is complicated and can hurt each other, but it's worth finding happiness in that world as an individual, rather than giving up who you are to escape pain."
go back to working on your shitty "game"
In every piece of material though, she ends up breaking with Gendo for Shinji.
Reifags are cancer who don't "get" eva.
That was Rei-II's problem.
Which is why Rei-III is a boss, smashes them glasses and ready to steal Adam away and give Gendo the middle finger that she will not play the part of doll anymore.
Now, if only Rei-III had a better option than Shinji to turn to instead at the time, but eh, no one can make perfect judgement calls all the time.
>boasts about getting eva
>is an waifufag
this is rich
>Now, if only Rei-III had a better option than Shinji to turn to instead at the time, but eh, no one can make perfect judgement calls all the time.
Spoken like an Asukafag. Only Asukafags have a massive hate-on for Shinji (despite wanting their waifu to "win" him).
Rei is indeed best girl.
>muh Asukafag boogeyman
O I'm laffin
Plot twist: first 10 minutes is a kawoshin sex scene.
based
Karl's head exploded.
He is not coming back in any physical form.
>ghost sex
A spirit is fine, too.
Do you think we'll ever get an explanation for what Gendo's plan/Kawrou's agenda was or will it just be like the original and never explain it only for Anno to dump it in an interview 12 years later?
>What was shown was that every relationship is basically toxic
Wrong.
Wtf is the Lost Key of Nebuchadnezzar?
Also, anno's milking this cash cow, so kawo coming back wouldnt be suprising at all.
Everyone hated episode 25 and 26, they felt like a cop out that ran out of budget that didn't fit the preceeding series. EoE actually feels like it fucking fits and is a continuation of the story, rather than nonsense.
In Eva, yes. Because Eva is viewed through the lens of a depressed person who views all the negatives of human relations primarily. Eva is a twisted lens about how all relationships and people are awful and pull you down or something.
Not talking about real life, but in Eva yeah shit only goes downward and every relationship is some kind of toxic or fucked up.
So wrong.
ok, but you can replace “creepy” with “distant” or “detached” and the theory still checks out. just because they got one (1.0) adjective wrong isn’t enough to refute it. “baby out with the bath water”
Relationship with father = toxic, both he and his father can't imagine a world or outcome where they're happy in the tang unlike everyone else
Asuka = negative
Rei = negative
Kaowru = ?
Misato = uses him when convinenent, even if she's not as toxic as gendo
Mom = turned herself into a robot and abandoned him
It's part of the reason Shinji became a wierdo incel who wanted to end everything. Because every relationship in his life is fucked up or actively negative.
This is the exact moment when Evangelion jumped the shark.
On a purely thematic level EoE is nonsense.
It was the only true sequel
best post
Misato wasn't that negative at all. She was more a parent than his father.
Good parents don't send you into war against aliens.
So are these movies sequels to EoE or not?
she tried to fuck him when she felt sad
What the hell does negative stand for? His relationships with Rei and Misato were positive for as long as circumstances allowed it. His relationship with Asuka was trubled and only his father was actively abusive to him. His mother orchestrated an elaborate plan in which she outsmarted SEELE itself just to put Shinji at the center of Instrumantalization because he was her only hope to save mankind. There wasn't any malice on her part, it was pure circumstance. Kaworu had potential to be a good relationship. It's hard to tell bc the dude isn't human but again, the relationship itself was not bad, circumstances were bad. There's also his friends from school who genuinely cared about him? Relationship with Toji and Kensuke made Shinji genuinely happy and helped him reject instrumentality.
Yes. Maybe. Probably. It doesn't matter.
You are judging them based on normal world criteria, not criteria of a world torn apart by global catastrophes and conniving secret organizations scheming to fuck up humanity.
do rei or kaworu even count when they have the souls of aliens, they are barely human and they are the only relationships shinji has that are kind of normal, kind of speaks to his point.
>misato
“This is about all I can do for you right now.”
>the only relationships shinji has that are kind of normal
Toji, Kensuke, Kaiji were all normal relationships.
Misato was driven into instability by their circumstances, not because she's a sexual predator waiting to rape him.
everyone is a product of circumstance
rei is more human than humans since her body is what created life.
And that's why you can't judge people when their circumstances are extreme. If Earth in Eva wasn't a turbulent post apocalyptic hellscape his relationships would have been normal.
what ever he said i think it was a way to connect the body and the soul. it might be the core process of separating and combining soul and body.
Not a lot of war with aliens in the normal world, but good parents do send children to fight when it's the only means anybody has of preventing the deaths of those children and everyone else. Wouldn't feel great about it, might feel burdened with the thought their boy wasn't getting enough for it, maybe get upset if he copped an attitude like agreeing to do it until he dies because all the value he has is he can be killed in someone's place.
I have to say fellas, I thought there would be an upsurge in Eva posting, but never to THIS degree.
I wonder if we'll get flooded with threads once 4.0 comes out.
Is anyone else extremely excited that we're finally going to see a new trailer for 3.0+1.0?
Dude... it's been almost 8 years since Evangelion 3.0. I've gone through life since then, I graduated college, I moved out, got a job, got my first serious live-in girlfriend. And through the wait for the Rebuild movies I went through high school and early college years. I watched End of Evangelion the first time when I was 14 or 15 years old, and at 27 today I feel like watching it again. I feel like I've literally been waiting the better part of my life for this final conclusion to rebuild.
Like, fuck all the haters. Fuck anyone who thinks Evangelion is shit. Fuck anyone who hates the Rebuild movies. This is one of the greatest events in the history of anime that this movie is actually coming out. Fuck it, I don't even care if it's shit. I still need to see this. Maybe I'll literally stop watching anime entirely once I watch this movie because there will be nothing to top it. Maybe it will just be trash, I don't know. All I know is I'm extremely, extremely excited and feel jittery just knowing that if I don't die in the next year, I will see the actual, true blue End of Rebuild.
I can't be the only person who's this hyped.
>Shinji ends 99% of human suffering and let's the people who don't mind it live
>"worse than x1000 hitlers"
it all comes down to him making that choice for them, thats what makes him worse than hitler
Yeah man, I'm pretty hyped since it's the Rebuilds that got me into Eva in the first place. I'm hoping that now that Anno has his mojo back that 4.0 will be top quality work from him.
>Toji, Kensuke, Kaiji were all normal relationships.
They were normal on a surface level, but Shinji could never fully open up or be comfortable around them.
I hear you bro. Fuck what Yea Forums says they're a bunch of contrarian niggers. I thoroughly enjoyed the Rebuilds and am able to view them through a different lens them the original series. I'm hyped as FUCK.
Mostly I really strongly hope that they put up the first 10 minutes on a Youtube channel somewhere. It would be lame if this is shown as like a really closed off event or something, even though I'm sure at the least some awful camrip will go up.
But yeah, it's nice knowing other people are feeling that hype as well.
It's gonna be livestreamed my boy
