I guess the alleyway ghost is some kind of Janitor? He eats up "impure" spirits (i.e. spirits that have had lingering regrets and long overstayed in the moral realm) so that they can be purified and go to heaven or reincarnate or whatever. Maybe that's why it looks so goddamn freaky, it's because it takes those impurities into itself.

Just because they looks like someone's anus doesn't mean they're malevolent entities. The Shrine Spirits/Kami proved that. The more malevolent entities act more erratically anyway. And these guys were nice enough to line up.

I hope the author can keep these small human stories coming while fleshing out the mechanisms of the afterlife, he could have some really interesting fiction here.

The horror angle is pretty nice, but it would be cool if she grew confident in her ability and used it for more stuff like this. I guess in an indirect way though, since directly dealing with spirits would break the premise.

It's pretty clear at this point that most of the spirits/what they do isn't malevolent, it's just that they all look much more horrifying that people would assume. A good example is the Kitsune in the shrine episode being a giant eldritch monster, but yet still helps her out and even playfully chastises her for not following proper shrine procedure.

It being a horrifying creature and yet all it does is sprinkle leaves on her head is perfectly in line with the supversion of expectations the author is now going with (this chapter, for example).
Also, the "three times" translation directly lines up with this, since it would mean it's simply reminding her she needs to pray three times normally. It could also have implied it specifically is only going to help her three more times, but that still isn't malevolent.

They were really popular in the 80's but kind of disappeared, a plastic is printed with a ridged edge, like ".vvvvvvvvvv." and two seperate images printed on to it, one on the "Left facing panels" and one on the "Right facing panels." As a result, if you look at it from the right, you see the right facing image clearly, but if you move over to the left you can see only the left facing image clearly.

Both images contain Mieruko, but only the left facing images contain the ghost, so at first glance from the right angle you see nothing (Just the right facing image) and then when you move yousee the left facing image.

Her aura attracts the spirits but if they get too close to her/touch her the weaker ones will burn up. Whereas the stronger spirits don't seem all that affected by her aura

The way I see it is spirits, like those tiny old guys, and the ones in the shrine can make contact with physical objects, while souls wandering around will just pass through them.

Well, I'm not an expert on the Old Testament, but I think people there mostly don't faint from angels, even if they're fucking scared.
If it isn't Lovecraftian as in "lol you go mad it's in the cosmic rules puny human brain", then she's probably gonna manage.
